[Q] I'm looking for a good call recorder for ICS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody
I'm looking for a good call recorder for a sony xperia mini pro running a rooted android 4.04 ICS, no custom rom & no custom kernel until now (I've got it just from last week)
I've been recording ALL my calls since 2006 with a crappy nokia N70 (symbian s60) with an amazing app called "ultimate call recorder" by ultimateportable.
Never had a problem. When my mem card was full, the oldest calls were deleted, the app started and stopped automatically with my phone so
I didn't need to worry about it, only when I needded to look for a concrete recorded call for some reason. No beeps during call or other strange sounds, just...a good portion of code doing its job.
Now I've just migrated to android, I can play guitar with my phone, there are apps for...everything, but I still haven't found a good app who can even do a piece of what "ultimate call recorder" use to do in my old symbian s60 phone. At the end of the day, I'm using a phone...not a guitar, a game console or a music player. So I want it to do its job as a phone of this age and record my calls like the 2006 nokia N70 still does. It's amazing how a device like this can run debian & things like that, but what i really need for my job is a good call recorder
I'm pretty new to android and there's a lot of confusing info about this topic, I've tested a few free apps and a few trial apps and no luck until now, so thanks in advance.

Bump!
I am in the same situation mate. Have an xperia mini pro (sk17i) with rooted ICS, no custom rom or kernel. Except I don't have an N70
I've been using "Call Recorder by Clever Mobile" for about a week but it's a piece of crap (both in recording quality and in features).
I finally got fed up with it and spend am hour just now looking for alternatives once more.
All I found was this thread, and some app which doesn't work in ICS...
So, is there anyone with a (fairly low end) Xperia phone (perhaps from the 2011 range) who can recommend us a call recorder?

I'm using CallRecorder on GB. Don't know if it works on ICS. Try it!

they removed call recording feature in ICS.
I had a lot of apps that did that in ginger bread when i updated it to ICS none of them worked.
The only work around is rooting your phone and installing cutom kernel that brings this feature back to ICS.

I heard something about that. But then how come Call Recorder by Clever Mobile works in ICS? I mean the audio is a bit muffled and clipped, and overly compressed, but it records both parties just as well.
Regardless, can you give a little bit more details on this? What kind of kernel? What keywords shall I search for?

ROM Request! Music Os/Rom

Hi all!
I was just cleaning my room when i found my old x10 mini and i thought why dotn someone create a rom thata makes the cellphone a media player only? Like no sms or calls no apps! just one good mp3/mediaplayer and some eq like DSP manager. this would be so awesome.
So we could put a use to old android phones
this could ofc work on any android phone
so fell free any good developer to take this idea and make it reality:
I will once I get a new phone (october) and can test it without needing radio. The one problem I can see is WiFi and Bluetooth might not work if you disable the radio entirely so its finding how to disable cell radio only.

Can't you just take out the sim-card and strip Android down to just media... wifi and bluetooth should still work, but without a sim there's no 2g/3g.

Good point... trust me to always think about the hard way when something that simple could be done. Soon as I get my GNote I'll do it

I could have a go at stripping stock eclair down and putting in jit, to make it a bit more responsive. Only problem i have with stock is that the sound quality with video-recording is a bit crappy (understatement, it's horrible) in loud environments, is there a way to improve that? I'm not a fan of the dsp-manager, haven't tried it with headphones, but on the phone-speaker it just sounds horrible. Maybe put in SRS trumedia or something like that, if possible?
If I wanted just a media-player i would have:
MusicPlayer
VideoPlayer
Youtube
Camera/Video-recording
Gallery
FM-Radio
Track-ID
Maybe a few small apps:
Notes
Timer
Stopwatch
Calculator
Browser
E-mail
Any thoughts?

If you add wifi and browser and those things it would be like a phone anyways im thinkin like just media stuff.
my opinion:
mp3
video player
camera/recorder
stopwatch/timer (perfect for training)
gallery
fm radio
preferences
-
just so the batery would last longer

Yeh, i was thinking smart mediaplayer.
Quite often i want to know what a song is called or who the artist is, so in those cases i turn on wifi and use trackid to identify the song, maybe the browser to get some more info.
When wifi and bluetooth are turned off they don't consume any battery, so it's not such a problem to keep them in, unlike the 'normal' network services that are always on.
So you wany an Os like ipod?? Just for media

Yes. A lot of people have moved on from their phones but have kept them around and its the sort of thing they'd be great for.
As for DSP-Manager, I find with the rock preset on my Sennheisers Guns N' Roses sound better than with it off, I might to a test CM7 build for it.

Just use the without any sim card...That's it....No need of any other os(music os/rom).. It is as simple as that....
use your x10 mini in fly-mode
I am exactly in the same situation..I recently bought a GNex and so i'm not using my awesome X10Mini anymore..But also due to the fact that the Gnex has no sdcard I was considering the idea of turning the mini into a music player..
I'm not a developer and I have just a little experince in ROM cooking, but I have a lot of free time in this period so I might try to do something..
A good idea.
I think we should ask NaA for permission to use MiniCM7 as a base(smoother than eclair) for such a ROM.
And then we remove the following apps:
Phone
Contacts
SMS
So it essentially becomes a PMP. Leaving YouTube and Browser apps in would be handy for video media consumption and what not.
Airplane mode on by default. Beats audio or some mod that actually improves quality
And there you have it! Of course though, it would essentially be nothing more than a recooked ROM. Anyone with MiniCM7 already installed could just do the above xD
Why recook when you can build it without GSM? I've done it already but not yet tested to see what sort of monster I've created (disabled GSM but might havve disabled. WiFi aswell)

While I can appreciate the novelty of seeing if you can build a ROM that works strictly as a media player, personally I think just using the phone in airplane mode is the best solution.
Consider which you would rather have:
1. a *possible* tiny performance gain from stripping out the GSM radio bits of the ROM
2. the knowledge that if your current phone ever dies or has problems, you can instantly pop the SIM into your old X10 Mini and have a working smartphone again.
I'll take number 2 any day. Even if I was living in the US and my new phone was non-GSM (thus no SIM card) I'd rather the option of being able to use my media player as a phone as well.
Granted, I guess you can always use multi-boot ROM setups. Still sounds like a lot of work to me.
Ever heard of Rockbox? I don't know that they are doing but I heard of an android port. Maybe as an apk. But the idea of it sounds great. I already started using my mini pro as an mp3 player for my wife. In airplane mode.

Record internal audio [HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro]?

Hey there,
as you probably know, it's forbidden by google to include a function to an app to record the internal sound. That's the reason why all audio/video-recorder-apps (like AZ Screen Recorder) only allow to record the microphone(s).
Is there anyway a solution to record the internal sound, for example with a cable? But only the digital way via USB(-C) and not the analog way with the phone jack which causes side noises! Do I need a special OTG-Cable?
If I connect the original USB-C-Cable to my pc nothing happens really.
In the dev options in the android settings I can de/activate the usb-audiorouting (but I can see no changes)
I also can choose 'audiosource' in the usb-config. If I plugin then to my computer, there is no new 'microphone' in the audio settings. In the device manager the BLA-L29 is listed, but the drivers are marked as corrupt.
Can somebody help me to finally have the power to record the internal sound? Thank you!
Perhaps try a Bluetooth recorder? I came across this after a 5-second web search; I'm sure that with a little more effort you could find many more varieties.

Well, maybe you invest next time 5 seconds more on reading my question(s). Your reply is nothing I've asked for.
And I already searched HOURS for a good solution, but without success so far.

Update: Huawei Mate 10 Pro Screen Record with Audio
Hi
I'm a Streamer and mobile Gamer, Just updated to Official Stable Android 9 on my Mate 10 pro and they actually provided a new screen recorder that can record internal audio but..
Here is the issue i'm facing :
1) When using the screen recording app and i turn the microphone off i'm able to record system sounds on any app and while its recording ,however the speaker sound is turned off so you wont hear anything until you stop the screen record. Also if you enable the mic the screen recorder app will record audio from your mic
I hope this could help Devs to take a close look at this , all we want is that to use a screen recorder which records System audio and mic just like the IPhone to allow us to stream our games to platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitch, Omlet Arcade without buying a IPhone .
I understand google bans devs from accessing this API : Internal Audio, but what if Huawei just develop a app like Samsung Game Launcher where only games and Streaming apps like Twitch, Youtube, Facebook Live, Omlet Arcade are allowed to access the Internet Audio Recording Function?
And BTW to all those trolls , we not requesting bloatware its a just a simple screen recorder or a Gaming Suite/Launcher app for our Mobile Gaming Community
Regards

Because Nokia made a great decision, to use pure Android. The smoothest and fastest Android of all. Besides the Google Pixel- Pixel 2, there is no other flagship with pure Android. You even have Google lens and "ok Google" with screen off, working. You have Android 8.1, when Galaxy S8 is right now updating to 8.0! For almost half the money.... Think about it....
I found this app that works very fine
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/themes/xperia-music-app-nokia-6-t3761076
I use "music folder", I love this app, it's simple but powerful at the same time.
Very very low battery drain.
I tried it for a few weeks and then I bought it, also to reward the work done.

Regarding this decision, I'm glad they took it and that's why I love the new Nokia.
However they could implement some little features like the screen-on when there is a notification coming.
Also their glance screen is still a far cry that the one used in Lumias, in every aspect (aesthetic, features, battery consumption).
I'm not sure if Nokia / HMD is really working under the hood or if they just push Google updates and that's it.

Isn't that what pure Android is all about? Pure Google. Fast updates and stock experience. I think I prefer fast updates, to have a secure and fluid device, than little tricks, that you mostly find in apps on play store anyway.
btw... On WhatsApp, sms and a few more apps, there are notifications on lock screen. And screen turns on. Just not for all apps.
If you look at the phone, the only downside, is it's own camera application. It sucks. Since I replaced it with Google camera, the phone became complete!
Yes you're right and that's why I chose Nokia too (that, + the fact that I'm a fanboy of the brand).
I know that Whatsapp wake up the screen with notifications, the whole point of my post was that, YES, Pure Android is fantastic and so far Nokia do a good job with updates. But maybe they could, like Sony for instance, just make 2-3 little additions on firmwares that won't slow down the updates that much, but will be great for users. For Instance, while under 8.0, it was nearly impossible to enjoy music streaming via bluetooth because it was broken (thanks Google). I don't have this problem on 8.0 with the GS8, and that's because Samsung worked on it.
Now with 8.1, no stuttering anymore, but as a lot of devices, Spotify is just shut down after 30min.
I would appreciate that HMD/Nokia put a little more effort on these type of problems.
I also agree that GC makes an HUGE difference.
I use poweramp and it works great. I love my nokia 8.
PlayerPro also work great for me, although I bought the Pro version years ago so dunno about the free version.
Same with Black Player, small and great.
If you have lots of albums N7 player is a uniquely brilliant in how it presents and navigates them.
I bought playerpro back when I had a HTC wildfire. That's how long I e used this music player and how happy I am with it. It's truly stood the test of time. My favourite feature is being able to download album artwork from the internet.
@venezolano69, I am currently using Onkyo HF player and is pretty good. It has various preseted HQ settings available and has a decent sound quality! It is worth to try if you are seeking for a new music player with good performance.
@machhho, if you are seeking for an audio recorder, let's try the one made by Sony. Both of the software can be found in the Google Store
I have been using BlackPlayer and it's really the best one out there in my opinion.
How can I record calls (App)?
I am now on Asus Music downloaded from APK mirror. Runs great and also has an equalizer. Still using since Asus zenfone 2 Laser and still great
Try shuttle music player

Phone Call Recording Apps Only Record One Side Of The Conversation

I have a Sony XA1 running Android 8 and it doesn't matter which phone call recorder I install, it only records one side of the conversation either me or the caller.
I'm not sure if it is the app at fault as they all seem to do the samething and this didn't start happening until I updated the android version towards the end of last year.
Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?
Thanks
if all apps do that to you then the problem is not the apps but rather your smartphone.

Yes, this is a reasonable assumption however none of the apps work on my HTC Desire 510 either.

Question Rooted - Which call recorder tweak are available?

Hi,
If you have your phone rooted, which callrecorder tweak is available to record the phonecalls (Include works with Google Dailer)?
I have a rooted Xperia 10 IV and use Skvalex. It is one of the best recorders, but a paid one.

I have been using Skwalex for several years on different phones and have always been satisfied. Do not use the "lite" version only you need to download the full version, e.g. 3.5.0, because then it displays phone numbers.
Skvalex can be installed on two phones.

It constantly hangs and a hit and miss. I have some recording that did not recorded at all . That software is buggy as hell. Just go for the LSposed app of google dialer call recording. Only thing you need to take care is to press the record button when you want to record it, then make sure thet you share the recording over BT to your PC othervise it will be overwritten when you record the next call from the same number.
i bought one xperia 5 mark 4 i would like to know if there is out there some working call recorder that can record both sides without google annoucement saying that the call is being recorded?
as far as i know some hackers modded the dialer from realme phones and realme 8 5g can record calls for example without google alert.
i dont wanna unlock boot loader or root most because i do use internet banking apps and when i do so i think i will make the phone more fragile to hackers and some banking app will not work anymore.
i can still cancel my purchase...
someone tried boldbeast or cube or acr call recorder? any news from modded apks without root?
so let me know!
