Phone Call Recording Apps Only Record One Side Of The Conversation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Sony XA1 running Android 8 and it doesn't matter which phone call recorder I install, it only records one side of the conversation either me or the caller.
I'm not sure if it is the app at fault as they all seem to do the samething and this didn't start happening until I updated the android version towards the end of last year.
Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?
Thanks

if all apps do that to you then the problem is not the apps but rather your smartphone.

Yes, this is a reasonable assumption however none of the apps work on my HTC Desire 510 either.

[Q] I'm looking for a good call recorder for ICS

Hi everybody
I'm looking for a good call recorder for a sony xperia mini pro running a rooted android 4.04 ICS, no custom rom & no custom kernel until now (I've got it just from last week)
I've been recording ALL my calls since 2006 with a crappy nokia N70 (symbian s60) with an amazing app called "ultimate call recorder" by ultimateportable.
Never had a problem. When my mem card was full, the oldest calls were deleted, the app started and stopped automatically with my phone so
I didn't need to worry about it, only when I needded to look for a concrete recorded call for some reason. No beeps during call or other strange sounds, just...a good portion of code doing its job.
Now I've just migrated to android, I can play guitar with my phone, there are apps for...everything, but I still haven't found a good app who can even do a piece of what "ultimate call recorder" use to do in my old symbian s60 phone. At the end of the day, I'm using a phone...not a guitar, a game console or a music player. So I want it to do its job as a phone of this age and record my calls like the 2006 nokia N70 still does. It's amazing how a device like this can run debian & things like that, but what i really need for my job is a good call recorder
I'm pretty new to android and there's a lot of confusing info about this topic, I've tested a few free apps and a few trial apps and no luck until now, so thanks in advance.
Bump!
I am in the same situation mate. Have an xperia mini pro (sk17i) with rooted ICS, no custom rom or kernel. Except I don't have an N70
I've been using "Call Recorder by Clever Mobile" for about a week but it's a piece of crap (both in recording quality and in features).
I finally got fed up with it and spend am hour just now looking for alternatives once more.
All I found was this thread, and some app which doesn't work in ICS...
So, is there anyone with a (fairly low end) Xperia phone (perhaps from the 2011 range) who can recommend us a call recorder?
I'm using CallRecorder on GB. Don't know if it works on ICS. Try it!
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
they removed call recording feature in ICS.
I had a lot of apps that did that in ginger bread when i updated it to ICS none of them worked.
The only work around is rooting your phone and installing cutom kernel that brings this feature back to ICS.

I heard something about that. But then how come Call Recorder by Clever Mobile works in ICS? I mean the audio is a bit muffled and clipped, and overly compressed, but it records both parties just as well.
Regardless, can you give a little bit more details on this? What kind of kernel? What keywords shall I search for?

[Q] Sound bug? Audio delay in games

Hi,
I'm very satisfied with my z2 tablet.
But: While gaming Dead Trigger, GTA Vice City and Modern Combat 4 I experience an audio delay of approx. 0.5 - 0.7 seconds. Every other app including other games e.g. Asphalt 8 and videoplayback runs just fine without any audio delay.
Does anybody else encounter such a delay while gaming one of the abovementioned games?
thanks in advance
woggly4
Yes, I can confirm it playing riptide! However I think this is a software problem which will most probably be fixed soon...
Gesendet von meinem SGP511 mit Tapatalk
I can confirm that with several emulators. e.g. ePSXe or SuperN64 (Mupen)
I'm also getting this, I noticed it when playing worms 2 and the new walking dead game. Has anyone heard of an upcoming fix?
I have the bug too...
I am also facing this issue when playing worms 2. Anyone else? It also seems to be present in Netflix according to some users at talk.Sonymobile.com forums.

I think I tried that, as in using default settings in the equaliser. Did you have problems aswell and it solved it for you.

On mine, there is an equalizer setting called off. I don't think equalizer does much harm though, no matter what setting. It is just that sound improvement are digital filters and in nature will always introduce some delay and processing overhead. Of course it should not cause such a noticeable delay however the more processing involved the more error sources. In order to locate an error, you need to minimize the variables. Therefore if disabling all sound modifications help, you can then start to enable them one by one an see if and when the problem reoccur and what causes it.
I have not experienced the problem, however I hardly have sound on anything (especially games, though I don't play much) unless the sound is what matters, because of a health issue making me very sound/noise sensitive.
With the latest update (.402) the audio delay has been reduced sharply, but is still there from what I can tell.
What are your experiences?

I have the bug in Worms 2 and it's off by some ms. First I uninstalled it and reinstalled which worked. When I tried today it was suffering from the bug again. I then tried to clear app data which worked - but only for one session! Closing the game and starting the game again made the bug come back. So I tried to wipe app data and restart, sound in sync again... But only for one session. Maybe someone smarter than me can tell me why this happens?
Reply from Sony
I got fed up with the audio delay (in games not so annoying, but for video much more irritating) and wrote Sony about it. It is only the Z2 tablet that has problem with these apps, the apps work fine on my other Android devices.
Sony's reply was that they don't care:

Dear Gnopps,
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia Support.
We are sorry to hear about the problem you are experiencing with your Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet.
Does the audio delay occur in built in apps? Unfortunately we can not guarantee compatibility with third party apps and are unable to provide you support on them or a fix to your solution. We recommend you to contact the app developers for further information and support.
Kind Regards,

I havent fixed it yet, the only app I have problems with is Worms 2 and it works if I clear app cache. I have to that every time I want to play it though making progress almost impossible ;/.
Sad to hear that Sony doesnt care...
Sony support is really one of the WORST.
You only need to read what users experienced regarding the touchscreen problems (which is a far more serious problem than audio delay in games). Like the North Korean government, Sony says it doesn't know of any problems. The customer is the ass.
I love my Z2 Tablet, but this company just plain sucks.

[Q] [HELP] How do I prevent the screen recorder from crashing?

I've just updated my phone to Lollipop a few days ago and I'm enjoying it. I'm really glad they added a screen recorder on the power menu so I don't have to use a 3rd party app like Mobizen that lags for days. It works fine for the most part, until I start recording Summoners War gameplay. I noticed that it the recorder vanishes and no video was recorded, so it seems like it crashes. Any way to prevent this? My device is not rooted yet and I'm not planning on rooting my ZU anytime soon, I'm afraid I won't be able to play some of my online games when I root it (some games detect rooted devices as installed with malicious apps for hacking).

I have same issue. I tried to reinstall rom but it still crash so I use SCR Screen Recorder.
It's the best android recording software. If you have root you can record internal audio. If not have root they made a version of it without. It's the best

Android Auto compatibility?

Has someone with a Mate 10 tried to run Android Auto? I'm still rocking a Mate 8, still a very good phone but with one major annoyance : not working with Android Auto. Very eager to find out if this issue has been resolved.

Actually..... was fine yesterday but I have had a few weird issues today (have only had the device 72hrs)
- Lost music playback during a drive this morning.. can still hear nav instructions and phone calls etc, just silence during what appears to be playing music.
- The map screen has shrunk.. its like a totally different dpi to the other screens and appears fairly high res. Good because of the extra screen estate, but is now difficult to read text.
I'm going to try again tomorrow and will reset the head-unit and reinstall AA if it continues.
There is also a fair bit of complaints going on at the google product forums so maybe Oreo still needs some bugs worked out ?

It's strange. Sony XAV AX-100 & Mate 10 ALP-L29 .115
I find if I'm connected to the headunit first via BT and streaming music, it is fine. GPS directions and calls etc work as expected.
If I plug in via USB and let Android Auto takeover the headunit, it will continue only playing the one currently playing song, and the all other music is unable to play. I still get audio for directions & calls though.
What I think is happening, is Android Auto is trying to play music via USB connection and disables the "media" part of the BT paring.
For whatever reason, Google Play music doesn't come through via USB.
After a bit of research it appears this is a widespread problem with multiple devices after a recent AA & Google Play music update.. so I'm hesitant to blame Huawei here.
My current workaround is simply to use Android Auto on the phone and paired via BT for audio, rather than plugged in via USB.
Very very annoying, and hopefully fixed soon. Google seem to be dropping the ball A LOT lately
Very strange indeed...hope these bugs get ironed out soon. One of the main reasons to upgrade is to have AA working on my head unit so I guess I'll just wait until this works like it should.

Just a quick fyi.. I have cancelled my Google Play Music and switched over to Spotify instead, which is working great and I have no other issues while plugged in via USB
I still get the higher dpi on the maps screen, and am finding it's actually preferable now I've used it for a few days.
Another small fyi for those experiencing issues, after a whole bunch of testing it appears the 'Smart Display" resolution setting is casusing the Nav Maps screen to be distorted, and the On-Call Phone screen to be hidden.
Locking resolution to HD / 720 will allow Maps and Phone screens to function as expected.
Still haven't figured out the GPM no-audio bug even after yesterdays playstore update.
I'm having issues on my mate 8 NXT-AL10.
Navigating - Works on fresh install of Android Auto, but then with Waze installed, next time I get in the car and go to navigation the system freezes, goes black, and then returns to the home screen. This has gone on far too long, and this is also my 2nd and last Huawei phone. Unimpressed.
Music/Audio - Every app I go on within android auto (on my head unit) is giving the "Google play music doesn't seem to be working right now" or insert other app name. It's mightily frustrating.
I've found workarounds for both but they're by no means fullproof.
1) Using Nova Launcher seems to keep Waze working for longer without having to reinstall the android auto app.
2) Apparently clearing the cache of your apps can help solve the audio issues, as well as restarting Bluetooth.
Google/Huawei really need to get their act together on this. It's really frustrating to spend so much money on a phone and a new car only to find out the systems you bought them for don't work.
---------- Post added at 01:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:58 AM ----------
Oh, and also, when typing - for inserting a destination into a navigation app on Huawei, I've found there's no space-bar.
The only workaround so far I've found is type it natively on app in phone, save the destination as a favourite, and access it on android auto from the favourites list. Again, small, but painful.
You going to hate android auto belive me.

I upgrade my Oneplus 3 to Mate 10 and having the same Google Map resolution too high problem.
I turn off Smart Display and lock the resolution to HD (720p) as instructed from this post, the navigation of android auto back to normal but the quality of the screen of the Mate 10 itself look like a budget phone.
I will try to update the firmware of my SONY XAV-AX100 if it would help.
Oh great. I really wish i found this thread before pulling the trigger on a Sony XAV-AX100 I expect it to arrive sometime next week but it wont be installed in my car until the new year sometime. Nonetheless, I will try some basic tests with Android Auto and report my findings. These tests won't involve sound though. No speakers laying around to connect to the headunit. I have a Mate 10 Pro, firmware 8.0.0.125
Updating the firmware of the XAV-AX100 unit does not help. I think it is the problem of Huawei Firmware. I hope they can fix the problem soon.
I just bought my Mate 10 last week. Finally got a chance to use AA, and after reading all the helpful information from this thread, I changed my phone resolution down to HD (low). I have a brand new car and brand new expensive flagship phone, and now you are telling me Huawei doesn't work well with AA. I really dont want to use an expensive phone with HD low resolution. Is there a way to let Huawai fix it?

I think we have to wait for the firmware update of the phone instead of the firmware of head unit. I am current running 8.0.0.119(C636) (which have the AA bugs) and hope that the new 8.0.0.128(C636) I found in Firmware Finder will have the problem fixed. However, the new firmware is not authorise to install on my mate 10 yet.

Sorry for bringing this topic again, but these are exactly my problem and exactly my thoughts.
I have a Mate 9 Pro with Oreo beta and even when I don't have problems with maps or screen, I can only hear 1 song and then the audio stops working, and even when I unplugged the phone, the device remains with no audio at all until I reboot the device.
I tried to test with a P10 Lite, but the car is not even recognizing it.
I will try today with an Android Stock device to see if I get better results.

Do you get correct resolution on your car screen with AA? I can get correct resolution by using HD 1280 x 720 only, which is low resolution.
I tried to use Quick Shortcut Maker to create a shortcut so everytime I need to use GPS, I will toggle it on. However, Quick Shortcut Maker doesn't work on my Mate 10, and I dont' see any new shortcut created on my home screen.
I tried Nova Launcher, again, no hope. Nova Launcher tells me "Permission Denial" when I created the shortcut for "Screen Resolution". Also, after insatlled Nova, my Torch (flashlight) no longer working anymore.
I am thinking to return this crappy mate 10, it's not worth it to spend so much time to do research on all these bugs for Huawei software engineer....

Ok. I have received the Sony head unit and had it installed on friday night and...........
I am having similar experiences to Snachez with some exceptions.
No sound in Google Play Music. Which I am very pissed off with. Sure, I could cancel Google Music, but I have a family account with multiple users. So that's not really an option. I have no choice but to take up a Spotify subscription as well as GPM. I truly believe this is an issue with the GPM app or AA and is not Huawei's fault. Goddamn you Google. (EDIT: Just scored 3 months of Spotify for $0.99. If Google can get there **** sorted by the end of March with the Music app, it won't be so bad)
Maps are fine. don't matter what resolution i run the phone at. Sadly this is probably the only part of AA that has worked as expected.
Phone call information does not display on my headunit. at all. I have a dialer / contacts info but that's it. It doesn't matter if i switch the phone between 720 or 1080p. phone call info does NOT come up on the headunit. Do i have to reboot the phone between resolution switches? Because I didn't try that.

Saying I hate it would be a bit strong. More unimpressed than anything else. Unless I need to use Google Maps, or charge my phone. This headunit is going to spend more time in BT Audio mode than AA
I have got phone functionality (call info, etc) to work in AA. But to do so I have to force close the Huawei dialler each and every single time before connecting the phone to the headunit.
[email protected] me, what an absolute pain in the arse. How did Google and/or Huawei not notice this???
On the upside though, it works when the phone's resolution is set to 1080p. what a relief because changing it to 720p everytime i want to use AA would just suck.
To all the folks that say phone / maps doin't work properly in 1080p. have you tried enabling Developer Options in AA and experimenting with some of the settings?

Record internal audio [HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro]?

Hey there,
as you probably know, it's forbidden by google to include a function to an app to record the internal sound. That's the reason why all audio/video-recorder-apps (like AZ Screen Recorder) only allow to record the microphone(s).
Is there anyway a solution to record the internal sound, for example with a cable? But only the digital way via USB(-C) and not the analog way with the phone jack which causes side noises! Do I need a special OTG-Cable?
If I connect the original USB-C-Cable to my pc nothing happens really.
In the dev options in the android settings I can de/activate the usb-audiorouting (but I can see no changes)
I also can choose 'audiosource' in the usb-config. If I plugin then to my computer, there is no new 'microphone' in the audio settings. In the device manager the BLA-L29 is listed, but the drivers are marked as corrupt.
Can somebody help me to finally have the power to record the internal sound? Thank you!
Perhaps try a Bluetooth recorder? I came across this after a 5-second web search; I'm sure that with a little more effort you could find many more varieties.

Update: Huawei Mate 10 Pro Screen Record with Audio
Hi
I'm a Streamer and mobile Gamer, Just updated to Official Stable Android 9 on my Mate 10 pro and they actually provided a new screen recorder that can record internal audio but..
Here is the issue i'm facing :
1) When using the screen recording app and i turn the microphone off i'm able to record system sounds on any app and while its recording ,however the speaker sound is turned off so you wont hear anything until you stop the screen record. Also if you enable the mic the screen recorder app will record audio from your mic
I hope this could help Devs to take a close look at this , all we want is that to use a screen recorder which records System audio and mic just like the IPhone to allow us to stream our games to platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitch, Omlet Arcade without buying a IPhone .
I understand google bans devs from accessing this API : Internal Audio, but what if Huawei just develop a app like Samsung Game Launcher where only games and Streaming apps like Twitch, Youtube, Facebook Live, Omlet Arcade are allowed to access the Internet Audio Recording Function?
And BTW to all those trolls , we not requesting bloatware its a just a simple screen recorder or a Gaming Suite/Launcher app for our Mobile Gaming Community
Regards
Abu:good:
