Galaxy S3 Charging Very Slow - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

In about two hours of charging I went from 8% to 41%. Is anyone else experienceing this issue? I'm using all the cords and plugs given to me for the wall.

I don't have the SGS3 (yet), but my guess is that the battery is so large it takes longer to charge. Keep in mind that it's a 2100MaH battery. Depending on the power that the charger puts out, it could take longer to charge this battery than another phone.

Mine charges fairly quick with stock items.

Mine went from 2% to Full 100% in a little over 2 hours on the stock Samsung charger.. I'm going to cycle mine 3 or 4 times being that it's new obviously.

So would you agree something is wrong with my phone?

I agree, the first few cycles might not be too accurate. If you want a faster charger get the HP Touchpad charger, it has 2 amps where as the Samsung one is .75 amps of charging. only $5 on hp website. that's what I use.

Monoprice sells a 2.1 amp 4 usb wall charger as well but it is not as cheap nor do they have free shipping *although atleast in CA I can get a flat rate of 25lbs and under for ~$5 shipping.*

I'm surprised no one has posted the correct answer to this yet. The wall charger Samsung has decided to include with the S3 NA is complete and utter crap. I believe it is .15amp draw. You need to immediately throw it in the trash and buy a new one. It is not a problem with your phone.

while I like Monoprice, the HP OEM charger is better in my opinion. its solid built and portable too.

I use the Blackberry Premium charger works well with my S3 and is only like $15 or so on Amazon.

Before I rooted and calibrated the battery. My phone took 3hrs 20min to fully charge on stock 1A charger.

My Samsung Charger that came with the phone is 1Amp...charges the device fine. I don't think the 2Amps will make a difference if the charging chip doesn't support it (not saying it doesn't but the SGSII would only charge at 650maH no matter what charger you put it on)

Mine's charging insanely fast with the stock cable. Not sure if it's a good thing because battery life isn't all that amazing on my phone so far.

doesn't that mean each USB port is 0.5 amps?
Anyways if I'm not wrong the amps has to do with what it can supply. Whether the device tries to draw that much power is up to the device.
The stock charger is 5V 1amp.
Even if you use a 2 amp charger it will likely only draw one amp.
Even if it does draw 2 amps that would mean you are increasing the heat associated with more current. Heat is the worst thing for battery life. Its always better to do slow charge unless you're in a hurry. Your battery will last a lot longer that way. Having said that, I think 1 amp is a good compromise for speed and heat.
p.s. computers output 0.5amps per USB slot by default specifications.

How long does it take your JetStream to fully charge?

Just wondering, I bought two JetStreams last week and both of them take a while to charge; I would say over 8 hours. My previous tablet would get fully charged in less than 4 hours.
I love this tablet and besides the usb port and audio jack placement that's the only other thing that's bothering me at the moment.

Using the 9V charger that has been provided by HTC, I can charge my tablet in around 3-4 hours - not sure though - will clock it next time I charge.
However if you use a 5V charger which is used by other phones, it will surely take longer.

That's what I suspected, I bought these tablets on ebay and they both came with the smaller 5V chargers. Just wanted to double check, thanks for the reply.
Yea I got a small charger as well from that ebay sale. Using my iPad charger(switched the usb cable). What's weird is after a few minutes on 100% the second I unplugged it could go down to 9x%. I had to leave it for a bit longer for the charge to stick to 100% unplugged.
Well I have tried around 4 or 5 different chargers and with all of them it's taking over 8 hours to fully charge my battery. I don't know what's the deal with this tablet, I bought the OEM genuine charger from eBay and even though it's bigger than the one that came with the device - which is a phone charger; the output voltage is the same 5V.
I tried switching the cable to my girlfriend's iPad charger and it's still taking a while; it's starting to annoy me. Battery life hasn't been an issue though, it lasts over 24 hrs under moderate use - netflix, web browsing, emails, eBook reading...etc. So I don't think it's a bad battery because it holds a charge just fine, it just takes too damn long.
Any ideas, comments or suggestions?
Its not the voltage of the adapter but the output amperage that matters.
The small adapter that came with my ebay JetStream only supplies 200 milliamps (mA) and can take 2 nights to charge fully (i.e., overnight will only charge it to 60%-70%).
As a point of reference, the adapter for my Bluetooth headset is 180 mA.
My BlackBerry charger, which charges my JetStream in a several hours, has an output of 700 mA. Actually, I have never timed it, but it does not take over night to fully charge it.
The AT&T site has a HTC wall charger for the JetStream - does anyone know what the output amperage of the HTC wall charger?
I Have the ATT power cord.
Output 9V, 1.67A
Full charge for me is approx 3 hours, maybe a little more but i've only let my tablet go almost to 0 once.
Hope this helps, Charles
My girlfriend's ipad charger outputs 5v, 2.1A and it still takes a while to charge with that one. All my other chargers are also 5v so i guess im gonna have to get a 9v one to see if i notice any improvement in charging time.

It will take about 4 x longer than the OEM for the same amount of charge.
If you operate the Flyer while connected, it might not charge at all, but will discharge at a slower rate.

TIP: This charger fast charges my G2

Just FYI I just bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/190961745241 and it fast charges my G2. It has model number ETA-U90JWE on the unit. Just thought I'd pass that along since I was having so many problems finding the right charger/cord combo that would fast charge.

I got two of those a week or so ago myself from eBay (same model charger ETA-U90JWE, different seller, etc.) and can confirm that they QuickCharge. I was a bit worried after reading some reviews on Amazon.com that there are knockoffs of the same model that perform poorly but I guess I got lucky.
Those that have it -- does the USB cable work with the original charger too? and with other 2amp chargers (like my car charger)? I always leave a AC charger in my car just in case, but if it's going to take 5 hours to charge my phone, it becomes pretty pointless unless I'm staying overnight somewhere.

Lies! These aren't ****ty old NiCa batteries. If it doesn't heat bad, which i haven't experienced in fast charge, its perfectly fine. Screw the base brick, I'm just trying to find a single USB 3.0 (needed) supported cable that supports 1800mA. Not one that runs over 800mA and doesn't pop slow charge, but one That fully utilizes all the mA's. Can aubergine post a SS of the mA reading please?

Here is one I ordered from Amazon, it arrived today.
http://www.amazon.com/reVOLT-c2-Dua...=1384487213&sr=8-3&keywords=scosche+revolt+c2
I just tested it: I have a 110v wall plug to cigarette charger socket adapter. Plugged my old cig charger into it, used the white usb cables I described in a previous post in this thread, and got slow charge message. Then I took out that old cig charger and plugged in the new Scosche reVolt c2, used the same cable and got no slow charge message. Watched it for 2 minutes and it went up 2% (so I consider that QuickCharge).
Thanks

Thanks smacklayer - I bought one just like yours on eBay.
One has to be careful not to get a gray market knock-off, but it's hard to tell exactly. Even on Amazon, there are lots of complaints of chargers that appear to be OEM but aren't.
BTW: how does one tell if their G2 is NOT "fast charging"? Is there some indication?
I have a PowerGen 2A car charger with usb cable that I purchased a year ago for my N7. I plugged my G2 in the other day and I didn't see any visual cues that something was "slow charging" and it appeared to charge just as fast as the LG G2-supplied charger. So, I've been wondering about a "fast" or "slow" charging indicator.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The charger with the usb cord bent almost to the point of failing still sticks out 4 inches. end rant

Problem solved plus they can be had at actual retailers if you don't like Ebay.
For an overnight charging you will be better of with a generic $2 charger from ebay. It can't supply high current for fast charging, and slow charging is actually better for the battery. I use the factory charger only when I need fast recharge.
I went ahead and just pulled my neutral and hot wire off the outlet and glued them to the prongs on the charger and stuffed it in the wall, works great.

As in the wall power, with glue. Dude this sounds like such a fire hazard. Careful man.
Get a flat plug extension cord for tight places like this from Office Depot, for the love of Android dont pull 110V out of the wall and glue it to wall wart.

Using wall chargers for LG Optimus S and Optimus G - one at work, the other at home.
I have the OEM charger for the G3 in my bag as well, but have only used it once or twice.
I haven't really bothered to test how long it takes to charge on the older chargers compared to the new one - might be worth a look.
Battery life on this phone is really impressive though, especially when you consider how much juice it takes to power the QHD display.
The stock charger is fast and powerful, it charges G3 at 1.2-1.3Amps. None of my other chargers can charge G3 at more than 0.9Amps. And charging from a PC or a non-android specific charger goes at 0.5Amps at most.

Even though you can try to use that battery with wireless charging it won't fix your slow charging rate. Wireless charging goes max to 0.6 A (600 ma) when it comes to charging. So it's 1/3 the speed of your regular wall socket charger.

Something is wrong with your charger or cable then. My ZL charged from ~78%-100% in about an hour last night. The plug adapter that came with the phone and a USB cable I've used for a while, from a Nook I think. Wireless will be VERY slow. It's fine for topping off, but if you drain it down you will want to use a wired charger. You can use a wireless charger with the ZL, there's some info in one of the threads talking about what you need to order. You can't use the contacts on the back of the phone for it, you need to use one of the low profile USB plug type.
If you want fast charging you need to use the adapter that came with your phone, or another known good adapter, and a good quality USB cable. It doesn't have to be USB3, a USB2 cable will work fine, but it needs to be good quality. Monoprice is a good place for inexpensive, but good quality cables.
If you are connecting to a computer USB port, you will charge slow unless it's a USB3 with a USB3 cable.

Try a usb 2.0 cable to charge it.
The little extra part for the 3.0 seems to have gone bad in my phone after only 4 months.
If I charge it with the cable that came with it, I have the results you are saying.
If I charge it with a 3 year old usb 2.0 style charger, it charges fine.
Good luck!
Get a usb voltage/current tester. They are like $10. You can test all your chargers and cords and find the under performers.

Yes, it drops to 97% straight away. This is because it drains in the background a little as the charger doesn't trickle charge. See this for an explanation http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/1...bump-charging-and-inconsistent-battery-drain/

Lol yeah.. There's an app called ampere that'll measure the actual charge rate. I don't know how accurate it is, but I did notice significant differences.. My bluetooth headset charger shoes as 150mah, and the Nvidia one shows 1900mah. My htc charger showed 1200. So there were differences even if not exact, they represent the higher rates of the advertised amps.

That's quite useful. I'll give it a go tomorrow thanks for the information
Any luck with the chargers? I have no idea which one to get.
I just picked up a Tronsmart three port quick charge charger for $10 during black Friday pricing on Amazon. Works great, charges from 20% to full in about 2 hours.

Can't wait to get mine. Couldn't pass up that $199 price. Just what I was looking for, a nice 8" tablet, perfect travel size, imho.
Bought a couple of accessories as well.
Case

Screen Protector (I have one of these on my Note 5, not crazy about the haloing, but it does the job)

Charger (I already own one and have had good luck with it, and just wanted another one dedicated to the tablet)

You could pick up a quick charger from Motorola and flash the Bit-O kernel with QC support,

Hate to go off topic, but does that case have the stylus cutout? If it does, is it annoying?
Nexus 7 (2012) Charger works well. 5V, 2A.
I'm about 3h for a full charge.

I don't see anything that looks like a cutout for a stylus.
I've had my Shield K1 tablet for about a week now. Been charging with my S6 charger but wasn't charging properly, never got to 100%, it froze at 97% saying 4 minutes left to charge.. Just bought an Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 42W 3 Port wall charger and its been on charge for about 8 hours and it seems to be charging extremely slowly. I checked it a couple hours ago and it was on 60% now its only at 70%. Not good.
I am using an adaptive voltage wall charger 3-30V with my Shield 2017 USB cord. I am testing it currently, but ampere stats thus far are:
Min:1440mah
MAX:1640mah
over 20 minutes I'm working on developing a kernel but the k1 is a hell of a source considering I'm used to qualcomm. I'll keep ya posted. I'll also try quick charge 2.0 and 3.0 however Nvidia seems to restrict their temperature rather than the voltage? Any help with their stock source kernel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
