Using different charger.... - Sprint LG G3

So WTF were they thinking win they designed these chargers. My bed partially covers the outlet and with this ridiculous design i have to pull the bed out enough or plug it in across the room. My wife got here m8 today and i thought oh ill just switch her chargers but hers is just the same! why the hell are they doing this!! So can i use my charger that came with my htc hero (i belive) or will it cause issues. its bent at a 90 and works a lot better for me but i dont have any of the voltage info on it. i mean it works ive tried it but is it safe?
The charger with the usb cord bent almost to the point of failing still sticks out 4 inches. end rant

Problem solved plus they can be had at actual retailers if you don't like Ebay.

For an overnight charging you will be better of with a generic $2 charger from ebay. It can't supply high current for fast charging, and slow charging is actually better for the battery. I use the factory charger only when I need fast recharge.

I went ahead and just pulled my neutral and hot wire off the outlet and glued them to the prongs on the charger and stuffed it in the wall, works great.

so the htc hero charger output is 1 amp and ours is 1.8. so like others said it will be a little slower but that may prove beneficial in the long run. thanks guys for clarifying this

As in the wall power, with glue. Dude this sounds like such a fire hazard. Careful man.

Get a flat plug extension cord for tight places like this from Office Depot, for the love of Android dont pull 110V out of the wall and glue it to wall wart.

I use the charger that came with my og evo (supersonic) years ago. Its a nice fat cable (fatter then newer cords), low profile plug. I've used it for og, note 2, nexus 5 & now LG G3, they built that one to last.

Using wall chargers for LG Optimus S and Optimus G - one at work, the other at home.
I have the OEM charger for the G3 in my bag as well, but have only used it once or twice.
I haven't really bothered to test how long it takes to charge on the older chargers compared to the new one - might be worth a look.
Battery life on this phone is really impressive though, especially when you consider how much juice it takes to power the QHD display.

The stock charger is fast and powerful, it charges G3 at 1.2-1.3Amps. None of my other chargers can charge G3 at more than 0.9Amps. And charging from a PC or a non-android specific charger goes at 0.5Amps at most.

Charging craziness? Why does this happen?

So a little while ago I purchased a Galaxy SII and had a problem with the phone charging, it was at times unusable, screen was unresponsive sometimes etc.. etc.. I took it back, they didn't have another one so I didn't buy another one.
I just bought another one a couple days ago and I've always been a lurker here, but I had the SAME problem with the one I bought yesterday. I returned it today and exchanged it, and this one while not as frequent or severe, is also doing the exact same thing. Only while charging. It's the charger that came with the phone, the cord that came with the phone...
I don't get it. Is it some sort of electrical interference in my outlets perhaps?
From my understanding, its the charger. Sometimes while charging, my screen is unresponsive or inaccurate. On my Captivate, using the device while it was on the charger made it totally unusable. I mean its was extremely inaccurate and irritating
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Saw this happen with my captivate, it's 100% the charger. Tried it with 2 different captivates, both became unresponsive while charging. It happened to be one of those cheap ones from ebay..Just order another one, or better yet a generic usb charger+cable.
I noticed HTC chargers don't generally cause this. I'm using one right now and it hasn't done it since I switched..

The HTC charger is a full 1 amp charger, if you can manage to read that fine print on it. The Sammy charger is only 0.7 amps. That might make a difference. I picked up an Energizer 10W/2 amp charger that works like a charm on my SGS2; has the same rating as the charger for my Galaxy Tab, but won't charge my tab for some reason.
I actually have an outlet in my kitchen that has a USB port in the outlet. I plugged it into that last night and the problem went away. Man, I feel like an idiot. Months of using an iPhone when I could of been flashing my GS2 to my hearts content. LOL.
What about an iPhone plug?

According to the fine print on an iPhone plug, it's rated at a full 1 amp too. I charge my SGS2 with it all the time with no problems.
That only happened to me with cheap non-Samsung chargers.. Happens with the AT&T charger, for instance.
this happened to me too but only when my charger was plugged into a cheap extension cord

I too have used iPhone chargers for the samsung. They are both constant voltage chargers and so will work for the Li Ion battery, but know that it is a stronger charger (and is faster) so not best for the samsung battery. In fact it's not best for the iPhone battery either.
iPhone: 5 volts 1 amp.
SGS2: 5 volts 0.7 amp
*heat is the ultimate enemy of Li Ion batteries, another reason to not use the stronger charger.
Yeah I had the same problem, and actually I still do have that problem with my SGS2
Its the charger for sure. One of the pins inmy charger actually shakes as in its not set rigid.
So when I plug in the wall, I have to make sure I put it in at an angle so that the pin can be powered.
It charges perfect with a friends SGS2 charger
I have seen similar problems on a car inverter I have with just about any charger. When Plugged in the touch screen acts like it is being tapped by a swarm of drunk bees. When I plugged into a cigarette lighter usb plug it works great. Bad power, bad cords, and bad chargers, these phone just go nuts if there is something they don't like on the power input.

Galaxy S3 Charging Very Slow

In about two hours of charging I went from 8% to 41%. Is anyone else experienceing this issue? I'm using all the cords and plugs given to me for the wall.
I don't have the SGS3 (yet), but my guess is that the battery is so large it takes longer to charge. Keep in mind that it's a 2100MaH battery. Depending on the power that the charger puts out, it could take longer to charge this battery than another phone.
Mine charges fairly quick with stock items.

I agree, the first few cycles might not be too accurate. If you want a faster charger get the HP Touchpad charger, it has 2 amps where as the Samsung one is .75 amps of charging. only $5 on hp website. that's what I use.

I'm surprised no one has posted the correct answer to this yet. The wall charger Samsung has decided to include with the S3 NA is complete and utter crap. I believe it is .15amp draw. You need to immediately throw it in the trash and buy a new one. It is not a problem with your phone.

My Samsung Charger that came with the phone is 1Amp...charges the device fine. I don't think the 2Amps will make a difference if the charging chip doesn't support it (not saying it doesn't but the SGSII would only charge at 650maH no matter what charger you put it on)
Mine's charging insanely fast with the stock cable. Not sure if it's a good thing because battery life isn't all that amazing on my phone so far.

doesn't that mean each USB port is 0.5 amps?
Anyways if I'm not wrong the amps has to do with what it can supply. Whether the device tries to draw that much power is up to the device.
The stock charger is 5V 1amp.
Even if you use a 2 amp charger it will likely only draw one amp.
Even if it does draw 2 amps that would mean you are increasing the heat associated with more current. Heat is the worst thing for battery life. Its always better to do slow charge unless you're in a hurry. Your battery will last a lot longer that way. Having said that, I think 1 amp is a good compromise for speed and heat.
p.s. computers output 0.5amps per USB slot by default specifications.

Finally found a good car charger

Couldn't find where anyone posted this, especially since search is broken right now.
I have been searching for a good car charger, and have tested several from Monoprice, which ALL eventually quit charging. Finally found this car charger that works perfectly. It is the only charger (that I have used) that can charge my phone faster than the Waze app can drain it. Excellent quality quick charger for $5. I believe it is rated at 950mA. The others were rated at 1A, but evidently that wasn't really the case.
In case the link doesn't work, it is the Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger for $5.06 with free shipping at Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341575986&sr=8-1&keywords=motorola+car+charger
FYI - The charging cable is attached, so it is not a removable micro USB cable. Surely you can tell that from the picture. The clear plastic Motorola emblem glows blue when plugged in, which I thought looked cool (or, "looked chill" for you kiddos ).

I have one works great.
That is a very widely used car charger and pretty well loved. Personally I use a http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10826&cs_id=1082603&p_id=8858&seq=1&format=2 with a USB cable. Have never had any issues with it dying or failing. It also barely sticks out of my cigarette lighter. Any all in one plug I've ever used has always had a lot of bulk.
I use the Zagg Sparq. In the car and work and such. Little pricey but it's got a lifetime warranty.

While we were on our way to key west last week also, we killed 2 count them 2 of the griffin 2 port stubby ones. They worked at first, then died. Heat probably an exascerbating issue in that case as we were in a miata with the top down and the sun on that all black interior for 8 hours. Also, had both my phone with nav and ambling books and bluetooth, and my gf's iphone 4 and her taking pics non stop haha.
Anyways I found at radio shack a stubby iGo 2 port 2.1 amp that worked without a problem the rest of the vacation doing the same heavy load in the same heat for untold hours from key west to ocala on the way back to my parents place at the end. It was more like $30 than $3 though!

Okay, this is a weird one. When charging my phone, almost every single time, it will charge up to about 76-83%, and then stop. However, if I unplug it and then plug it back in it will resume charging like normal up to 100%. I mean this is bizarre...is it a battery calibration issue, perhaps?
Edit: Happens on any/every ROM I use.

Had the same thing too and as described in the post above it is in fact due to the output. Just compared my old but still kicking s2 and my og charger and the og charger has a much greater output.
Yeah lgog charger is 5v 1.2a. It's very nice. We also gotta qualcomm technology called quick charge or something like that that enables the battery to charge substantially faster without damaging itself. It's a logic chip in the phone and improved battery chemistry from LG. Asian manufacturers have a huge portfolio of products and are weirdly driven to diversify in all directions. LG has their own chemical company, and that's who makes our pimp batteries. I stuck with HTC for 7 years, but if LG flagship phones continue to have decent development then I'll probably stick with LG for a while. It's cool that they manufactured the entire phone from scratch except the SoC, no other company can really say that besides Samsung. And they're both Korean companies. Btw, south Korea is a great place to vacation.

It looks as though I need to pay attention a bit more. I was using the LG wall charger, however, I wasn't using the right cable. I was using my Samsung cable. The Samsung cable is longer and reaches to where I can charge and play with the phone at night. I'll try the cable it actually came with and see if it continues to pull the same trick. The LG cable is definitely thicker.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
I totally agree with you on the length of the cable and is why I was also using the s2 charger as well. If you need the extra length you can probably get by using an s3 charger. I steal my girlfriend's s3 charger from time to time just because I want a little more mobility than two feet and it charges the phone just fine with very similar output ratings....... 1.0 amps compared to 1.2 amps of the og charger.
I've had something similar happen recently. The phone will either charge extremely fast or extremely slow. I usually charge my phone at about 30% and sometimes it will charge fully in about 90 minutes and others it will take up to 8 hours, with the slowest part being in that 73-87% range you describe. I always use the LG charger and cable because its the only one that I have. I'm running code fire's CFX ROM if that helps anyone out.

That's some weird stuff. I'm getting good performance right now using the stock cable with a belkin 1A cigarette lighter to USB adapter. But last week I grabbed a cheapo Chinese retractable cable that was in my wife's car and plugged it into the built in USB port in the car (don't know what it's rated output is) and the battery drained VERY fast... Roughly one percent every minute or 2. Freaked me out... Certainly appears to me this phone is temperamental about cables...

This is with stock and custom rom, even reverted back to stock a couple times to make sure that it wasn't the custom firmware that was causing the issue. Guess the makers of cheap chargers haven't caught up with the big batteries todays smart phones pack, should of hold on to my bag phone charger a little longer lol!!

That's on thing i do miss about having a removable battery though, is the fact that a large part of my job is in very dusty dirty environments ....i.e. steel, aluminum mills and other high temp dusty and dirty as hell places is that i could remove my battery and feel safe while using a little contact cleaner. Now og days i play it safe with air. But either way i don't think that has anything to do with the use of cheap chargers lol. Best bet would be to stick with oem or pay the extra price tag for those high out put chargers that att offer.

Just FYI I just bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/190961745241 and it fast charges my G2. It has model number ETA-U90JWE on the unit. Just thought I'd pass that along since I was having so many problems finding the right charger/cord combo that would fast charge.

Thanks! Just bought one as a backup charger
I got two of those a week or so ago myself from eBay (same model charger ETA-U90JWE, different seller, etc.) and can confirm that they QuickCharge. I was a bit worried after reading some reviews on Amazon.com that there are knockoffs of the same model that perform poorly but I guess I got lucky.
Those that have it -- does the USB cable work with the original charger too? and with other 2amp chargers (like my car charger)? I always leave a AC charger in my car just in case, but if it's going to take 5 hours to charge my phone, it becomes pretty pointless unless I'm staying overnight somewhere.
This is okay but remember kids. Slow charging is much better for your battery

Yes, the white cables that came with it do fast charge (tested with both these new Samsung charges and stock LG unit). From 10% to full charge in about 90 minutes.

Thanks. Ordered!
Nothing sucks worse than going out and having a dead phone.
Although I'm up to 30 hours so far and have used only 63%
Has anyone found a car charger that will fast charge? I now have 4 chargers that claimed they would but will not. My wife's work phone has that charge above. It works great.

Charging times with any electronic device are dependent on amperage. Find a charger that is 2amps and you should be set. It will say on the box.

Lies! These aren't ****ty old NiCa batteries. If it doesn't heat bad, which i haven't experienced in fast charge, its perfectly fine. Screw the base brick, I'm just trying to find a single USB 3.0 (needed) supported cable that supports 1800mA. Not one that runs over 800mA and doesn't pop slow charge, but one That fully utilizes all the mA's. Can aubergine post a SS of the mA reading please?

Here is one I ordered from Amazon, it arrived today.
http://www.amazon.com/reVOLT-c2-Dua...=1384487213&sr=8-3&keywords=scosche+revolt+c2
I just tested it: I have a 110v wall plug to cigarette charger socket adapter. Plugged my old cig charger into it, used the white usb cables I described in a previous post in this thread, and got slow charge message. Then I took out that old cig charger and plugged in the new Scosche reVolt c2, used the same cable and got no slow charge message. Watched it for 2 minutes and it went up 2% (so I consider that QuickCharge).
Thanks

Just bought one of these. Thanks smacklayer!!!
Weird. This thing is picky. The usb cable with my 2.0a csr charger charges at around 900mha, but plugged in using the samsung ac adapter it slow charges at 30mha... but once in awhile it goes at 800 to 900
Thanks smacklayer - I bought one just like yours on eBay.
One has to be careful not to get a gray market knock-off, but it's hard to tell exactly. Even on Amazon, there are lots of complaints of chargers that appear to be OEM but aren't.
BTW: how does one tell if their G2 is NOT "fast charging"? Is there some indication?
I have a PowerGen 2A car charger with usb cable that I purchased a year ago for my N7. I plugged my G2 in the other day and I didn't see any visual cues that something was "slow charging" and it appeared to charge just as fast as the LG G2-supplied charger. So, I've been wondering about a "fast" or "slow" charging indicator.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

They have these available at every Walgreens, I can confirm they work with 2A chargers. I know they are ugly and awkward but if you're in a pinch and need one right away these are easy to find. Usually found around the register area.

Apparently, it's a message? Is that what you guys have seen?
Again, I've never seen it, so I have to ask!
