How to overclock Live with Walkman ICS? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi I know there is an app called "SetCPU" for Android, that allows to overclock the phone or something like that, but I already followed a tutorial and installed busybox on my phone but it says is not rooted, even when i follow the tutorial to root ICS and did everything ok, i have my device rooted but when i use flashtool and reboot in adb mode to install kamarush kernel 3.0 on my phone it says failure because it says i have to root it. I dont know whats the problem, what version of busybox do i have to install on ICS? I have Busybox installer app, but dont know which version i have to install, and will i have problems doing this? because all I want is to save more battery with SetCPU application but i have to install custom kernel first...
Also I was reading this post....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734111
will i have that problem if i manage to install kamarush kernel on my wt19i?
Thanks

You need to unlock bootloader (it'll most likely void your warranty) and install some custom kernel that supports OC.

I have my bootloader unlocked (or that's what i think, because when i go to service menu it says "Bootloader Unlocked allowed: Yes") But im not sure, anyway I want to install kamarsuh kernel 3.0 but im afraid i will have troubles or something...
By the way someone has this app, SetCPU installed already in this phone? Is it really worth to overclock my LWW to install this app, I wanna know if it really saves battery because since i installed ICS i think it drains a little bit faster than before with GB.... :/

You're not allowed to OC your CPU on stock kernel and no app can change that. That's why you need custom kernel.
There are alot of guides on how to flash custom kernel. I'm not 100% sure, but i think you need to do it over fastboot using flashtool.

I know, I already read it somewhere, that you have to install custom kernel to overclock phone, and you do it with flashtool, problem is when i try to install kernel, in flashtool it says i don't have root, even when i already rooted it and installed busybox...

You need to unlock the bootloader.

This means that you have not unlocked your bootloader..but it means that you are allowed to unlock your bootloader.means no restrictions from operator side

Your bootloader is still locked.
Use the official sony method or the unofficial testpoint method to unlock your bootloader.
Then you must install a custom kernel that supports overclocking.
For example you can use rage kernel 3.2 ics, krsh kernel 3.0 or Mesa Kernel 1.2.
Good Luck.

Or, at least, it's a "modded" official method

Before doing anything, can someone please tell me if this really helps to save more battery on ICS? Because since I updated my phone I think battery drains a little faster than before... :/

Overclocking does use more battery, of course. CPU works at higher rate, it needs more power. Overclocking uses always more power. I do not know, where did you read from that overclocking uses less battery, but that is completely incorrect.

Overclocking the xperia Neo?

hey people,
i was just wondering how some have a neo running 1,7 ghz?
and also how they did that?
Thanks!
I don't really know how it works but you can do that with SetCPU. With this app you can change the speed of your processor but it can be a bit dangerous, I think at 1,7 Ghz you can damage the processor, it can resist higher speeds than 1 Ghz but don't push it to the limit or you'll screw it up!
You need an unlocked bootloader and DoomLord kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197263
to be able to overclock with SetCPU
also if you have a locked Neo you can unlock the bootloader with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254416
I tried DooMLoRD kernel and that worked perfectly
You can overclock at 1.9GHz without warm !
ok thank you very much!
i had my bootloaders unlocked but i relocked them,
i think i can just follow the same procedure to unlock them?
and when you have DooMKernel do you have automatically root?
and will that everything work on 2.3.3 and SE software 4.0.A....
thanks!
Yes that works for the latest stock rom (i've tested). For the root i don't know; i was already rooted when i flashed the kernel.
You don't loose any data
For the bootloader i don't know, try to re-enter the 2 commands with the same unlocking key.
Wow,really up to 1.9 ghz without warm?
Is it possible to set an auto overclock only for gaming?
Yes i think its possible.
You need to set only right profile to setcpu.
For me is SmartassV2 and interactiveX profiles very good perfomance.
ok thanks all,
but i'm still not gonna unlock the bootloaders, (i also forgot the unlock key from SE)
i will wait until we have ice cream sandwich!
i think that's better...

i have my bootloaders relocked already
When you unlocked your BL, did SE send you an email with the unlocking key ?
Otherwise try to go again to the unlocking bootloader website, with se same IMEI :/
just stick your imei in again and itll give you a new number
ok i guess you have confinced me now
i just forgot, will the data be wiped when unlocking the bootloaders?
(i can't find the email so i will try just re-entering the IMEI number and see what happens)
Yes all the data (internal memory) will be losed when unlocking bootloader. If you are rooted you will keep the root permissions
You can backup with Sony ericsson backup and restore (i think that's the best tool for no-rooted phones) or Titanium Backup.
@NeoJeo ow lol i have just unlocked the bootloaders!
i will now going to flash it to DooMKernel, i just don't understand how i am gonna use setCPU when it needs root because now i have no root?
I'm not sure but i think doomkernel includes root, because root is not required to use it. So try to flash it without root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197263 (see requirements)
EDIT : i've just readed "autorooting" in the features
@NeoJeo: i have flashed it and everything works and i have root!
many many many many thanks!!! (i dont think that is correct english
lol i can get to 1,9Ghz wtf
So you can't change the frequency to more than 1Ghz ?! did you follow exactly the instructions ?
Have you got the latest .368 firmware ?

[Q] Why bootloader?

Hi all,
I saw in the Android development topic that it's possible to unlock the bootloader.
Why would I want to unlock the bootloader? What are the (dis-)advantages?
Greets,
Jarcol
The bootloader in our phone lock us down from pretty much doing anything to.the phone. But when we unlock it we are then able to control the phone ourselves. (theoretically) we are able to do what the hell we want to this phone now. For example unlocking the bootloader simply allows you to flash unsigned/modified .sin files.
Now. This will not happen overnight as there is a lot of things to it mate. What you need to remember is there is hardware to think about and and a hell of a lot more.
Hope this helps!!
Yup, agreed. Main thing is to load custom kernal without load stock kernal. Which mean custom kernal load directly.

Flash DooMLoRDs unlocked kernel and if it doesn't display the white "Sony Ericsson" text upon start-up, then it's unlocked
I've flashed Dooms kernel and now is appearing an android logo with 2 vertical color bars top and bottom.
Does this mean it's successfully unlocked ?
Because during the unlocking it gave some errors cause he couldn't find some files.
Thanks
yes it is unlocked.
but is that doon kernel not the one that causes the phone not to go into deep sleep and has serious battery drain issues?
i think u should go back to the stock kernel or just use the Doom stock kernel. that one has just xrecovery put into it, and nothing else, meaning its practically the same as stock kernel.
shame that the bootloader unlock is coming at a time when all the Devs are moving on/have moved on to other phones. a week now and nothing new to report about for X10.

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro Questions

Hello
Just purchased a SK17i Xperia Mini Pro Black Version that is locked to 02 (UK network). I am obvously new to all this stuff but do have a basic understanding but here are some questions:
1) I am thinking of waiting until Android 4.0 is Officially released by SE to update my phone (btw, anyone know when the update is coming). Was wondering when I update will I still be able to root my phone?
2) When I root (if I can) I want to install Set CPU to overclock my phone. However I have heard this drains batteries? Is this true and if so how can I make my phone faster?
3) I need to unlock my phone. Can this be done for free after rooting? If not, can someone link me to the cheapest place I can get this unlocked from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers
Hey dude,welcome to XMP family.
1)According to Xperia Blog,XMP will get the ICS update in the end of May or early June, after the first wave for arcS,neoV and ray.I don't know whether we can root it on official ICS or not,but I think to get a rooted phone is easy once you unlock the bootloader, and besides, there are so many developers here.
2)When it comes to overclocking, apparently it would cause battery drain faster. But with my experience,I hardly feel its difference on SE stock Rom.As for custom rom like FXP's,which I has used for a while,it drains about 2~3% per hour while idle(drop speed is two times than stock.)
3)Certainly you can unlock your phone for free, see this thread & tutorial. But it should be noticed that once you unlock it then you may invalidate your warranty.
Mine is on FXP CM9(ICS) and it's kind of laggy, but I can't tell it's because of the ICS rom or existed bugs.As SE said,we may not have the same experience like Gingerbread if we update to ICS.

Hello mate, thanks for the great post
I think I will leave stock ROM once updated actually, seems to be running fine atm as it is.
I think I will still update to the official ICS when it comes out as does look worth it.
Just about no. 3) I think your talking about after rooting, the process to get custom ROMs by unlocking the bootloader? I was talking about the network? lol
Unless I'm mistaken?

There is no way to get your phone unlocked from a network for free but WontanServer offers an unlocking for $15. You can try that out. Just type WontanServer in Google and click the 1st link. WontanServer is legit and won't steal your money
Though as a warning you might not be able to update to ICS as it also might unlock your bootloader. Just double check, as I am not 100% sure. Also it will void your warranty

He meant that the Wotanserver network-unlock method might unlock your bootloader (which it does). This bootloader unlock, whilst giving you access to custom ROMs etc, might not behave with official SONY updates (such as ICS) - I'd link you for proof but I'm not allowed to due to my low post count .
Also, Google 'Omnius Unlock'. They will unlock your phone for free over the next few days (Easter promotion). I'm not sure how reputable those guys are though so you'll want to check.
Thanks for that Omnius Lock thing, looks great and will check it out
So, if I unlock it I may be unable to upgrade to 4.0? That is a bit stupid to say the least? Anyone on an Xperia that was unlocked then ugraded to 4.0? Did it become locked again?

Well I'm not sure about 'stupid', you'll have to weigh it up. If you look in the development section, there's already a very useable version of ICS (look for MiniCMSanwich), which is potentially better than Sony's bloatware-infused and themed version (not to mention probably unrootable) due in a couple of months.
I think it's mainly FOTA bricks that happen (over-the air updating from Sony), and some bootloader unlocks allow for this by just patching the bootloader to make it seem unlocked (any SETool unlock will do this). So there are a number of options.
Be careful also of some bootloader methods stripping the DRM keys, these are used by Sony services like TrackID, which will cease to work (permanently) following a bootloader unlock.
Edit: There's a distinct difference between a network unlock and a bootloader unlock, the former will nearly always also execute the latter, but the latter can be done by itself (obviously only on unbranded phones). The method of getting a custom ROM is basically network unlock > bootloader unlock > root > install custom kernel > install custom ROM. Root can be done before the unlocks, I believe.
I'm new to all this too, only trying to explain because I know how much of a total pain it was to work it all out .

It is the same unlock method, just everything brought to one place by that app maker.
Rooting your phone before custom ROM installation is not needed, because old ROM(stock) gets deleted anyway and custom ROMs include root already.

Well, in order to flash KitKat you'll need to unlock the bootloader because you have to flash a custom kernel first.
Now if your bootloader can't be unlocked then there's no way to flash custom ROM's unless if a ROM can be flashed in a locked bootloader phone. Sorry.

Yeah, I saw that too somewhere but nobody recommends it, you can damage your phone.

Yeah, the problem is that I don't really remember where is. Didn't took so much importance since that method is a phone-bricker.

Well, Xperia U is not a good phone in speed, but there's locked bootloader ROM's that you can try, also, you can try these tweaks:
Go to developer options and set background process limit to 2 or 3.
Check Force GPU rendering.
Check "Don't keep activities".
Check show all ANR.
Check Kill app Back button (remember when you're closing your app long press the back button to avoid to run in background)
Use Facebook from browser, man, the app is a pain in the a**, 60MB RAM only using it, too much for your phone, you can try mbasic.facebook.com or touch.facebook.com that URL are mobile-based sites. It's a lot faster than using the app.
Download and install Autorun Manager, this thing prevents apps to open by itself in background, can be useful with apps like WhatsApp or some games like Despicable Me.
Just few tips, you can try a RAM manager but I don't like it very much, is all up to you.
You cant install with lb atis112's patch works with ONLY CM9.1 AND NOTHING ELSE so try and risk a BRICK.
Sent from Earth.
All sony stock fw have many "bootwares" .
First you perform factory reset.
Apps like chrome, facebook are heavy ram eaters!
Disable them from -> settings -> apps -> all apps-> select aps you dont use often as disabled!
Trust me i'll run fast and bugless.
