For those with Steinheil/SGP/Spigen screen protectors w/ proximity issues... - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have been in contact with SGP on the issue with the proximity sensor and heres a summary of what has been said:
"Hello *********,
We are in the process of creating new design at this moment.
If you want to get replacement with the new design, please check back with us after 7days to see if we have the new inventory.
We are sorry for the wait, and thank you for your understanding.
Peter"
So if you guys contact SGP (I contacted through Amazon), I'm sure y'all can get a replacement whenever the new design comes out. They were nice enough to send me a replacement with the design flaw, since I went through the original 2 I had trying to make a cutout.
It was good to see a company possibly make changes even though they said that there weren't many customers with the issue.

I had the Ultra Clear, and even then proximity didn't work

I put my Ultra Crystal on yesterday and the sensor has been working flawlessly. Huh. Curiouser and curiouser.

Nice!
Guess ill shoot peter another email to see what the status of this is...
I was talking to him about them since release of device and he said there were not enough problems at that time to re-design it...always nice guy though as he offered replacements immediately.

Yeah, it seems the Ultra Crystals are fine for the most part. The Matte ones are the problem.

Yeah I have the Ultra Crystal too, but its super finnicky when the sensor wants to work. I'm super OCD about bubbles and such and I have none in my 3 installations and yet none of the protectors could emulate having a naked screen. Although it will randomly work sometimes, its super annoying to have the screen turn off instantly when making a call and then clicking the power button multiple times to have it turn on and instantly off again. Crossing fingers here!

i have the UC, and i tested the prox by making a call with and without the protector on in the dark. With the protector on it doesn't wake the screen but with it off it does. In a well lit room though it works because the light sensor triggers the screen on in that case, which i tested with my desk lamp, i would make the call then take it away from my face, and it wouldn't turn on until i exposed it to the light so ppl that think their sensor work, maybe try that to make sure.
I ended up making a cutout in my current protector but will contact them about the pack of 2 that i haven't opened yet thanks for the heads up.

Keep us updated I've been holding off on ordering because of this issue.

Interesting. I have them on 4 phones with no issues. I think some may be right that some proximity sensors are super sensitive.

Any idea how I can get in contact with Peter?
I sent an e-mail to SGP through their website, but they weren't too helpful.
I originally had the matte protector and was having problems so I ordered the ultra crystal through their Amazon store. I'd say it works 3/4 of the time, so still a little annoying.
Through their support on the website, they didn't offer to send me one with the cutout.

I received the updated design a few days ago (free of charge as a replacement for the old design). There is a rectangular cutout approximately 6 mm x 1 mm for the proximity sensor. No more issues since I've had it on.

Same here. I actually received it on Saturday, but didn't put it on until yesterday. Looks great. Yup!

WHOOP! So glad we all got this figured out. I should be getting mine soon.... Spread the word!

I ordered the ultra clear off ebay and it was $13.99 and free shipping and no tax but its the first gen with no cut out for ps. I think it feels sticky when i try and fast swipe up and down on the phones screen.

How long have you used it for? That stickiness usually goes away after awhile and if you don't want to wait wipe it with a 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water solution.

I just got it today so i guess it will get better with time.

Invisible Shield

everyone should start emailing Invisible Shield to get their attention about the HD. That we want one. Even if you get the reply to send your phone in. If we all do it then maybe they will make one somehow.
going to get my HD maybe in a week or so. barely ordered it!
Already emiled them about it a week ago after i got my HD. They said a user promised to mail his in and they would keep me informed
we should still keep emailing them! ahha

Hate to let my beautiful workhorse (meaning toy ) go unprotected for long.
i just went to their site and see nothing about the HD.. i haven't gotten a reply from invisibleSHIELD yet... i got time ..my phone hasn't even been shipped..
I'm wondering which one should i get, the brando ultra clear screen protector or the invisible shield?
I'll get invisibleshield as it protects the entire device, whereas the other one only protects the front.

Figured as much myself, but the ad at the site sounded a lot like a scam one. As in "military technology that we bring to you" and such...
How do you apply it? Will it show and won't it be uncomfortable? Will you be able to get the back cover off?
Dude, just "Youtube" the word invisibleSHIELD. It's no scam.
They use the same technology on helicopter rotorblades, that's probably why they would use that term.
Would the thinkness of this invisible shield stop it from fitting in a car mount specific to the HD such as the Brodit one?

My experience with invisibleShield on another device has left me quite unsatisfied. The surface of the film isn't smooth like PET protectors, but a little gummy or tacky feeling, and when I tried to move my finger across the screen, it would try to stop in places, and would actually vibrate across the screen, like your finger does across a counter top (that squeeky clean type of thing) which would register as several simultaneous double taps, sending my winmo, especially opera, into insanity. Imagine the frustration of trying to scroll down a zoomed webpage, only to have it unzoom every time you scroll . The only way around this was to put my fingertip in my mouth to moisten it, then it would glide across the screen, but that made me look like a dork (like I need any help anyway ) and left the screen in bad need of cleaning. I emailed them about that, and they responded that it shouldn't do that and offered me a replacement IS. In all fairness, I should say that it really is scratch proof. I know... I tried
Anyone else experience this? Maybe its just me... Perhaps I'll try this clearcoat when my HD is delivered this afternoon...
with the whole body as i know it even covers corners so thats a better way to go. im guessing they made it two parts for the back? i wonder too.. cuz with th iPhone you dont have to open it ever.. but with this is totally different. im most likely going to be buying it but not yet. im going to see if i like the phone first before spending more money..
i got it from clove.. anyone buy from there? i got it got 720.. it says it shipped the 19 and getting there the 21.. is that right? kind of fast? but i paid for the better shipping with FedEx.. to USA.
anyways.. why would you just get a screen protector? get the full body!
no.. invisible shield has been fine for me. ive used it on a iPhone and i didn't have ANY problem using it.. maybe it different because of the touch tecnology? so its less stable on the pressure/other types..
has anyone used clear coat?.... i dont know if to get it... according to people the gloss paint chips easily so i dont tnhink im even going to use my phone untill i get a full body cover.. thats just lame from HTC but oh well.. but anyone know about the quality of clear coat?

if you have the original case with no opening for the proximity sensor, email:

and you may be getting free replacement. I just got mine and it is excellent. I had the previous one drilled, but it never worked well.
good luck!

UPDATE
I have emailed fellowes, and have received a response. They say they are unaware of this issue, and request a receipt and more info on the problem.
I will post updates later....
i dont have the picture ,but simply the top of the new case looks just like the bottom, it is completely symmetrical.
To be honest, I first emailed BodyGlove, they responded about a week later and they forwarded my email to Fellows with their comments that I am right. So, maybe the first step is needed as well?
The address:
[email protected]
there is also a special address at fellows for BodyGlove branded products. Better chance they know abotu the problem:

The effort is worth it,the new case is perfect.

I've been trying to find out the answer to this as well. Some websites out there say it will fit the Tilt 2, but some say it's only compatible with the T-Mo Branded version. I guess I'll call Body Glove tomorrow to find out.
Okay, so I spoke with a representative with the company who seemed fairly informed about the product (I believe her name was Ellen, but I can't really recall) and she told me that the Body Glove would fit the Tilt 2, but it would cover up the "Push To Talk" button. She also shared the issue with tilting, but that's something we already knew.
She added that there are 2 versions of the GSM case out on the market; and the one that compensates for the proximity sensor can only be guaranteed if you purchase through them at bodyglove.com (at the moment anyway).
Also, providing coupon code "neato" will give you 20% off the product.
With that said, I guess I'll have to order through them to be sure I get the one I want without too much hassle.
Alright, so I got this the other day and tried it on my Tilt 2.
I must say, it fits rather poorly... The GSM version is pretty unusable on the Tilt 2. The front enclosure is made too small for the phone so it doesn't even snap in. The phone fits inside the rear part of the case, but is very loose and only half way snaps in (I've actually had the phone fall out of it... luckily I was on carpet).
I'm gonna give these guys a call back and see what they can offer me.
I guess it was worth a try
I have gotten mine all ready and it works much better. The big change is in the face plate which is now just a ring around the outside instead of wrapping around the speaker. The funny thing is while I was waiting for it to come in I started using a hip pouch and now I'm happy without the Body Glove.

[Q] Screen Defect-Bubbles?

My new Evo 4g LTE arrived today. Fairly quickly I noticed that there are at least 7 small bubbles in the screen. I cannot feel them on the surface, so I assume they are between the glass and the LCD screen.
Has anyone else had this problem. I have an email out to my Sprint Business Rep asking for a replacement, but its too soon for a reply.

Hmm. Yes. I believe the very first thing I did was remove the protective plastic on the screen. I had to remind grandma to do a similar thing when she needed to replace her old clock radio.
The point of the question was to see if this is a known issue with build quality. Anyway, I am headed to a corporate Sprint store on my lunch break to get a replacement.
Here's the big update.
I went into a Sprint corporate store earlier today and they immediately gave me a new Evo with a clean screen. Coincidently, a rep from HTC was visiting. He looked despairingly at the bubbly screen, said this is the first he's seen. Apparently my defective phone is going straight back to HTC Quality Control for review. I got a free HTC carabiner and wall charger/usb cable for my troubles.
So, I quickly and painlessly got a replacement phone and HTC is supposedly going to try and prevent similar bubbles in the future.
Mine was initially fine, but last night three of those bubbles appeared down the middle of the screen.
How has the new one held up?
I am going to replace mine later this week due to the "bubbles"
So far so good after almost 3 weeks.

Replacement USB flap

Hi all, I got a good deal on a used z3v(came from nexus 6 just wasn't feeling it much) I love this phone but I have a question the person I bought it from had removed the micro SD and USB flap that makes the phone waterproof (hence the reason I got such a good deal ). My question is where do I buy a replacement I see a replacement flap for the normal z3 on ebay, will it fit the z3v? Or with this phone being so similar to the z2 would i need to order one for that one?
Whoa whoa, that's an awfully terrible thing someone would do to this phone. Removing the flaps is like saying "please let me drive my car without tires and see how this will work".
You would have to get Sony to repair your phone for you because the phone is sealed tight, preventing you from physically modifying it of the sorts.

If they are the Z3V Variant then yes those will work. Any other Z2 or Z3 flaps that are not Verizon will not work.
That sucks since even cases for the Verizon variation is hard to find, oh well still a nice phone and I paid next to nothing for it so no worries as even when I had my s5 I never dunked it in water anyways. Thanks for the advice

I would be real careful with it though. Anything intruding into your phone can easily ruin it. It looks to me there's next to no protection for anything to enter without the flap. You should get a case that at least covers the exposed areas somehow.
How is that different from any other phone without protective covers on the USB? Not being a smart ass just asking. I have a otterbox defender but annoyingly it doesn't cover the flap area

If you look through the side where the micro usb port is, you can see the holes to see the internal where the display lights up. I feel as though dust can easily ruin the quality of the display or ruin the camera lens in the phone from taking great quality pictures.

Depending on how it goes and how difficult it is, if you want to of course..... make a small guide on how to put on those flaps. That might be helpful for some users in the future. Just throwing out an idea.

That's a great suggestion. I don't mind at all and would like to share. From what I can tell in my research, the port is designed like the Z1 and should not be difficult to install.
I just looked at the USPS tracking and my package arrived in Brooklyn NY tonight at 9:58pm. I'm in CT but doubt I'll get delivery tomorrow so it looks like Monday.

Actually, upon further inspection, I'm positive there's a difference. I found a couple European sites offering Z3V parts, expressly labeled as Black or Silver. Before anyone gets too excited though, none of them have the USB covers in stock.

Seems unlikely that the port cover would be different other than in color. Try chatting with Sony. I did that when I was trying to see if they would sell me the part and they were pretty helpful. I chatted right from my phone using Chrome browser.

Yeah, I just mean the exterior color. Still want it to be the most perfect though. The white definitely has a lighter silver trim, while the black has a darker, slate grayish silver.

My port cover arrived and after about a half hour of failed attempts I figured out how to easily install it without damaging it.
Unfortunately, the damn thing won't fit. It looks perfect but it won't stay closed. I have to press it hard so it closes but it pops right back open on it's own. Nothing like the other ports. I've contacted the seller. Hopefully they will make it right.
I did learn how to install it and will post the video tomorrow. For now, here are two pix showing the ill-fitting cover.

The Best/Case Friendly Tempered Glass Screen Protector w/easy installation

The verizon branded S8 screen protector is great quality, cheap and easy to install. (I purchased it for $26 on the VZW website)
All you have to do is clean up your phone real nice
Then set it inside of the guide piece that comes in the box.
Take off the plastic from the sticky side and set the screen protector on the guide.
Push down on the protector and take off the plastic from the upper side of the protector and BOOM you're done.
It fits in cases without lifting and doesn't cover any of the sensors.
The only complaint I would have is that you can see some dots in direct sunlight but that's a non-issue if you turn the brightness up or just don't be in direct sunlight
Let me know what you guys think. I recommend you try one for yourself. Looks better in person. sorry for the giant pics
If you have any questions about it let me know. Oh and there are no dead spots for touch and it responds no loss in sensitivity.
it is full adhesive on the entire protector? I just looked it up on my corporate Verizon site and it has a Samsung part number so I am pretty sure this is the official glass screen protector that samsung was rumored to be coming out with. I went ahead and ordered it since I get a discount. Part number for anybody interested :SAMDM1PKGSPBK

From what I can tell, it is only glued around the outside, but they did a good enough job so it doesn't feel like it lifts in the center or anything

I stopped by my local Verizon store. It is $45 and they claimed the whole thing had glue. I suspected the guy was full of crap when he said that. I passed on it for now. I am leaning toward trying one, but don't have that much cash right now. Thanks for all of the info.

Both have really bad reviews. Besides marketing and one having the black border, I fail to see a real difference between them.

Apparently Verizon brands all their generic stuff similarly. The guy at the store told me they do the same for all brands. That being said this thing is more trash, screen sensitivity is worse than the GPEL I had on. Funny thing was right after install it was perfect and its slowly getting worse.

I'm either going wet or none. I heard mention in a video that the current glass ones without full glue aren't so nice if you plan to get the phone wet, which I do.

Preordered mine from SecondSkin to make sure my baby was protected as soon as it came out of the box. Went on easily and touch seems unaffected. We'll see how it holds up.

Which second skin model did you order?
I got this one... it is amazing

I got the Iluvvitt and ZAGG tempered glass. Both are basically crap. They are designed the exact same, with the adhesive only being on the edges. The result is a constant halo effect, and because there is a slight gap between the phone screen and the protector, you get a "rainbow effect" when you turn the phone at different angles. Same exact problem with all of the glass screen protectors and my LG V20.
Yeah the reviews for the verizon one are terrible. Is it the the curved display that has made it hard to make a good tempered glass protecter for S6, S7E, & S8?

From what I've seen, yes. For some reason they can't or just don't put adhesive on the whole protector, only the edges.
