[Q] Any WORKING Toggles for 2g, 3g and 4g? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've used Widgetsoid widgets for years, but on my new Razr Maxx, the widgets to separately turn on/off the 2g, 3g and 4g connections just don't work. Most of the other toggles (e.g. WIFI, Bluetooth, etc.) work just fine.
I live in a city with great 4G, but my work often takes me to farflung places where cell connections are spotty. I find that my battery life improves if I can control these things. For example, if I'm not downloading a bunch of stuff, it's best to leave 4G turned off. If I'm in a very rural county, the only reliable signals that I'll find are 2G. In that instance, I save battery if the 3G isn't constantly trying to connect to a distant tower (or worse, getting a flaky connection that drops frequently).
Does anyone know how to tweak Widgetsoid to make this work reliably? If if not through Widgetsoid, what about some alternative widgets that do work?

Android (Google) doesn't allow any apps to get the rights for toggle between 2G,3G etc.
They only can Link you to the Menu.

For 4g, use this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5hbmRpcmMubHRlb25mb2ZmIl0.
Choose CDMA only for no LTE,
I cant find the old 3g/2g toggle I had back when I first got the phone, All I remember is that it was slow, and required root access, decided to delete because it was pointless.

I use the same app, but you can also use the phone info app, almost exactly the same. Cdma only(prl) for 3g, there is also more options but haven't investigated them all thoroughly.

use the power control widget in the apps/widgets already in the phone on ics or one called mtw installer
seems like most control widgets are disappearing from the market. guessing google has something to do with it

Thanks for the tip, but this is not what I was hoping to find. If I were using Gingerbread, it would only save me a few keystrokes or taps compared to just going through the Settings Menu. I'll try the toggle that you suggested and if it is "smart enough" to do the job under ICS.
FYI... under Ice Cream Sandwich, the System Settings to turn off 4G is hard to find (see below).
MANUALLY DISABLING 4G ON ICS
Use the "hidden phone code" "*#*#4636#*#*" to
reach the "Testing" screen:

LTE OnOff takes you right to that screen without having to remember some cooky number to dial, its really not that hard hell unless you disable the splash screen it even tells you what to select, honestly its quicker then GB, interms of what you had to do there, the downside is after each reboot you have to remember to go back and reset it.

Any one-click widget to turn mobile data on/off?

I've only had my Galaxy S2 a few days and I absolutely love it, an amazing beast of a phone.
The only annoyance for me is the inability to easily switch on/off mobile data. Maybe I was spoilt coming from the Desire where Sense had an excellent widget that allowed you to turn it on and off straight from the homescreen, but I haven't been able to find a similar option for the S2. I've tried a variety of widgets (Beautiful Widgets, Switch Pro, Extended Control, Power control) but all of them have some flaws, they either don't work at all or they are really just links to the settings page.
On top of that, every time you check the setting to turn on the mobile data, I get that annoying pop-up telling me that it might cost me money to use this!
Love the phone but would love a way to turn on mobile data with one click. Has anyone found a way to do this?
no widget necessary. you can turn data off from anywhere on the phone. just hold down the power button and one of the options will be to turn data off.

cool. I didn't realize this was an option. Cheers.
And if you want a widget JuiceDefender has one and saves you battery as well
Found a simple widget that does what Sense did for Desire
I was also spoiled by the Desire and Sense with its on/off widget... but for SGS2, I managed to find one that works!
APN OnOff, it is very similar to the one in Sense. Used it for a few hours and seem to be doing a fine job AND IT IS FREE! Enjoy

Uh, I would not recommend APN OnOff. It kind of creates another APN entry that might muck around with your APN settings. If you are already rooted, try Widgetsoid and the root setting.
Tasker can create such a widget for you also, in addition to doing pretty much anything else you can think of when it comes to an Android phone...

widgetsoid can do this and is free. It's a little complicated to set up - think of it as a widget creation framework, but if you can get the hang of it, it can be very powerful!

Wifi/GPS/BT/Plane on/off keys widget ?

Hi,
is there a widget similar to the one preinstalled on the defy to toggle wifi/gps etc. ?
The white/ coloured ones don't fit my theme.
THX
Widgetsoid is the best toggling app I've come across. It's got a huge number of toggles and options you can customize, including the colors and themes of the toggles, so I think it would be perfect for you.
2G/3G widget
When trying to switch from 2G to 3G or back Widgetsoid only sends you to the operator menu where you have to change the network type
Any other widget that can do the switch on a single click (as all the other widgets work)?
Wigetsoid ftw.

Can I ask a really stupid question? What would you want that for?
The only thing I can think of is if you are often in an area where either the 3G or the 2G data connection is often - but not always - messed up.
And that can't be too often (this actually did happen to me this summer: _some_ evenings my 3G data connection would just die and/or not let me log in. Then it was pretty handy to be able to force phone/dongle to just use 2G).
Or is it just for convenience? Use 2G for calls/standby (save battery, right?), flick on 3G when you want to surf or sync?

If your data connection dies somethimes you should use 2G and 3G at the same time. ( There is optin in data settings: use only 3G or use only 2G, or use both.)
Yes, 3G is a big component like Wi-Fi so it uses your battery a lot. But I use program which turns off all internet connections while screen is off. It saves way of my battery juice. But if you want always sync your programs put there a widget on your homescreen which is shortcut to data setting and when you know that you'r not using your device for next couple hours, just change from 3G to 2G only.
I hope this helped you

Slightly OT (mods please don't hit me, I'm a stoopid noob):
My problems this summer was before I had my lovely shiny Defy, and they were really tricky in that they only affected 3G data, and only sometimes (but regularly enough that I complained, and got a nice reply that they were working on it and that I had identified the problem correctly - no "have you tried this or that" -bull****).

That's a good way to save, but I think 3G (voice-) standby also eats more than 2G standby. At least a friend of mine who is a hopeless chatterbox said that turning off all 3G stuff in her never-used-for-data phone almost doubled her battery life - and it isn't like she is ever in an area with marginal coverage, downtown Helsinki all the time.

The app 'LTE Switch' will get you a little closer than the current method of digging though settings.

The 48th HTC widget is a 4x1 dashboard that includes a 1 button approach, I think. (Haven't run myself). Personally, I use My Settings Pro and have it set to my pull down menu. That's a 3 tap solution, too.

Which one? The lack of a 4G toggle? It makes sense that Verizon would nix any possibilities of the option in their ROM - idiots that toggle off 4G and forget to turn it back on only get 3G speeds, then cause Verizon a headache.

Have you guys tried Elixir 2?
It has allowed my to toggle my 4g. Havent found an option to toggle LTE though.
Pretty cool app though.
Happy Holidays.
LTE Switch wins over others
I wanted to create a shortcut with Tasker to add to the other automatic switches I use occur when going between car, dock, etc. Trouble is the Tasker tool kit hasn't the ability to drill down to that settings level. I tried Elixer, but that was too complex in trying to build the switch. I also tried Datswitch Pro, but that only toggles beteen wi-fi and the network - something the phone does automatically anyway. Android Market has several that are GSM based, but I haven't encountered a direct app to truly perform a one push toggle.
LTE Switch is a little clunky, but it does shave a few steps off working through the settings menus.
I use SwitchPro Widget for a one touch wifi and a great brightness widget that is customizable for multiple brightnesses. It does have a 4G switch but it doesn't work unfortunately.

Why does my WiFi keep turning itself on & off?

I recently flashed CleanROM 4.2 and I have noticed my WiFi is randomly changing. For example, earlier I turned it off because I noticed it was on and I turned it off, now I see it is on again about an hour later. In addition, this morning at home I had the WiFi turned on and connected to my home network, the phone kept dropping the connection, only.to find that WiFi was shutting off in the settings. I doublechecked my phone settings and I have it set to "always keep WiFi on during sleep" and I have it set to "never auto turn on WiFi". Can anyone help me with this?

The dev section is for threads that involve direct development only.
E.G. You made a ROM, you made a tool that helps Dev a ROM or flash ROMs, you discovered a new root method, ETC
A good rule of thumb... If the main point of your thread ends in a question mark... then it probably does not belong in the Dev section.
As far as wifi... have you checked all the modes that cause wifi to enable automatically when you open the market app or browser?
I guess Verizon wants you to be on wifi as much as possible, and the setting default to enable wifi when you open those apps.
having this problem as well. I have checked to not turn on wifi under wifi settings, deleted car and home dock apps, not sure what else could be causing it.

wifi will turn itself OFF too for no reason, even when you have 100% signal. it's an ICS problem.
Not sure if related, but I have noticed that the Wifi doesn't seem to be as strong on the rezound as it was on my Incredible. The incredible had amazing far reaching Wifi abilities compared to this one.
Just got the Rezound, has the strongest wifi signal then my Thunderbolt and my Samsung GS2. Running stock for now, this is the most dependable device I have owned and I have many phones. Everything just works the way it's supposed to.

Thanks but I did try the dock mode setting and it still turns off while showing 100%. It may last for several hours but then will disconnect. To get it to work again, I have to toggle wifi off and then back on. Then I'm good to go for a little while again.

When you open dock mode from the app drawer and hit the menu capacitive button it's in settings. Auto connect wifi when plugged into dock, or similar.
I don't have dock mode in my apps list, to get to it I have to tap the clock on my home screen, then tap the dock mode button.
At any rate, the setting in dock mode seems to have fixed my WiFi issue, its been fine for a couple of days now.
go to wifi settings and click on menu and click advanced...you'll find wi fi sleep policy, click on it and chose never...thats it!
Wrong, that's not it. Like I said in my original post, I've already looked to make sure that's not it. I've just learned to live with it as one of the quirks.

(Rooted) Enable Hotspot

Download Shortcut Master Lite.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
Open, click 3 dots in top right.
Click Search.
Type "apn".
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnUnlock
Click on it and launch it.
Click on "Unlock APN"
Click the back button to go back to the previous screen.
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnSettings
Click on it and launch it.
On Sprint it will say Access Points.
Then it has Sprint LTE Internet.
Click it and scroll down to Apn type.
Add ,dun to the end of everything on that line. (Example: default, mms, supl, hipri, dun)
Click the 3 dots in the top right and click save.
This works on my rooted 997 on Sprint. Might be pretty universal for everyone. Let me know.

May be kind of a dumb question, but what's the difference between this and regular wifi tethering..??
It's just a shortcut app to get into the settings required to enable it to bypass provisioning bits and goodies. So it's the same as the tethering as normal, but uses the app download, to edit the files to turn it on properly and all that. That's the short version.
wow the stuff you can access using this little app is great,
already enabled a ton of stuff they didnt include, like soft reset holding power/volume down ( why did they not have that on? like its fun to take my case off when i need to get it unfrooze lol)!!
Weird...i cant edit that line

Download Shortcut Master Lite.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
Open, click 3 dots in top right.
Click Search.
Type "apn".
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.Apn.Settings
Click on it and launch it.
On Sprint it will say Access Points.
Then it has Sprint LTE Internet.
Click it and scroll down to Apn type.
Add ,dun to the end of everything on that line. (Example: default, mms, supl, hipri, dun)
Click the 3 dots in the top right and click save.
This works on my rooted 997 on Sprint. Might be pretty universal for everyone. Let me know.

When I click APN Type it doesnt do anything for me to add the dun
Should be able to click on the line and it will bring up your keyboard and just add it in.

Missed a step in the OP. Added in:
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnUnlock
Click on it and launch it.
Click on "Unlock APN"
Sorry for the confusion.
If you search power. And launch the power.main should be 1st one.. After launch Its near the bottom. Says vol down plus power. Enable it.
I have followed all steps on my 997 and can now get the hotspot to turn on and devices connect but there is no data. Any ideas? Am I missing something?
I'm on H918 with TMO. The settings were very similar. I did a speed test tethering my tablet before following the OP, and a test after. It could be coincidence, but after the edit it was faster, telling me there may have been some throttling. before the edit.
Also, with the TMO phone, band selection is important. Frequently at home my phone switches to band 12 at one end of the house because band 4 is weaker, but band 4 is much faster. Manually switching it back to band 4 involves entering *#546368#*918# in the dialer. Creating a favorite in shortcut master takes me right to the hidden menu. Nice! Thanks @pdaddy !
I get thr, you've used your high speed tethering allorment for this month, tethering speed will be reduced to 128kbps
Im not surprised, but i cant find this on my Verizon VS995... Stupid verizon...
Worked on my device perfectly. The menu items were different on my rom but it only took a few seconds to figure it out. Thanks for sharing.

i did this and read every other thread concerning wifi hotspot/tethering but i not only is the "APN type" unavailable in the first place, i cannot edit any of the APN settings without a service code. there's a popup when i hit "edit" instead of "view" after launching the hidden menu from shortcut master.
anyone have this service code or know how to get around this?

I can not promise this will work since I don't have a Sprint device, but if you're rooted you could install my Full-screen Caller ID mod which include an APN unlock option in the app which is installed when you flash the mod.
Check the screenshots very last pictures, it shows the advanced menu options. You should be able to use them no problem.
The mod will for sure work for you since I had 2 of the devs here that have sprint devices confirm that everything works.
Good luck
