[Q] Gray Arrow with minus or plus sign - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I keep reading that the gray arrow with the minus or plus sign is "notifications off" but I don't see a toggle to turn it on or off. It's not in the pull down menu, even if I go right or left. Tmobile and others seem to have it, so maybe AT&T doesn't have the toggle? Where is the setting to turn it on or off?

I asked twice and no one helped. They just said it was there, look. Are people just going to ignore me?
edit: it was moved, sorry good sir, but I asked on other forums (international galaxy s 3) and they didn't say anything.

Nothing, no notifications. I think it changes when I get one, shows a + instead of a - sign. But I rebooted it and it went away. Not sure why it came up in the first place and not sure how to fix it (besides a reboot)

When I installed the chrome browser and did the login the plus thing happened to me too. And when I pulled down the notification bar I was able to click on the plus arrow and it took me to a password login area. Hope that helps bro.

I know that I get the + icon when I have a crap load of notifications (not enough room to show all icons in the status bar). Not sure about the -. Maybe it wants you to hurry up and clear some notifications?

It's easy,
Download and install HTCustom from here:
http://shadowmite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2231&p=7890#p7890
In the "UI" tab you can select in Clock Display one of these options:
Time, Date, Both, Nothing or Battery
Select the one you like, save and soft reset.
Cheers,
Works a treat, only thing is it now hides the volume and half the signal status icons.
If i tap in the empty space it does bring up the volume slider, The icon is just invisble.
when i open a program its is still shown like above.
If i slide open then close again (refreshing the screen) it looks fine. but once back to the today screen it it goes back to like the image above.
On another tanget, the battery status bar (Lordsmiff's) at the top doesnt always work.
I have to stop and restart the app to get an accurate reading, that or view the power status in the settings tab, then go back to the today screen.
Anyone able to shed some light on either of these matters?
Cheers

Identify This Icon, Please!

I have searched all evening to try and find out how I got this icon in my status bar. Could someone please tell me what it is for?? It's the one left of the WiFi icon. I am running Gingeritis v1.0 Beta IX. Thanks to anyone who can help. This icon doesn't appear in any android status bar icon list that I could find.

I'm pretty sure thats a GPS icon. try turning off GPS,see if it dissapears or changes.
Mike
Thanks for the input, but I have all three GPS on and still have the icon. If I uncheck all of them, the icon goes away!! But turn on any one of them and it comes back. Makes no sense.
Its the "Location" icon. A few ROMs removed it. It's kind of useless... just ignore it.
The crosshair is location. The two curved lines on the right of it is gps. It will be there when any location or gps activities are taking place. It will go away when all location or gps is turned off. This includes all things that are location based( weather, browser, or any app that uses location) not just maps or navigation.
Hope this helps.

I think if you turn all 3 gps OFF that icon will go away.
there's been a gps icon for years
On stock ROMs, I believe that icon is always there and is because of the e911 service, which in the US cannot be disabled.
It's not there on the DAS BAMF ROM I'm currently running on the Thunderbolt, but it's there all the time on my stock Droid Charge.

[SOLVED]What is this icon on my notification bar?

Can somebody please identify what this and how to get rid of it? It doesn't allow any other icons to show unless I pull down the notification bar. It's the icon on the upper left hand corner of the notification bar. It's a grey box with a minus symbol in the middle.

Do you have notifications turned off? Check your toggle in the notification tray.

Pull down the notification bar, scroll right at the top where you have wifi, GPS, sound etc and select "notifications". Your minus sign will go and ordinary notification icons reappear.
Answer after a month and four days? lol
And it has already been answered too!
Methinks thou shouldst stay off ye olde crack good sir.

How do I turn these notifications back on?
Hi
I've got exactly this problem. I never knowingly disabled notifications but now even an SMS won't show it's icon.
I did however install Lightflow... perhaps that caused the issue?
AND the silly left pointing arrow & minus sign icon shows even when there are NO notifications.
Anyway, how do I get these icons to come back?
(PS I'm using a Galaxy S3 but can't edit my signature file below)

Your notifications are off. Pull down your Notification screen and turn on your Notifications. Why they put this in the Notification are, I will never know.
Found it!
Ahh you beat me to it
Thanks I eventually discovered this after exploring some more. I was busily creating a picture when your post came though.
I've attached the picture in case anyone else stumbles across this post with the same issue.

never mind i accidentally clicked the "menu option" of my galaxy win/quattro and then the setting option popped out.
I know this is an old thread, but I don't think this necessarily works i.e. disabling auto-updates per individual app. I recently rooted an lg g4. As far as i know, I have had auto-update turned off, and as i saw the updates running, I checked the play-store to make sure it was off and even checked a few of the apps to make sure autoupdate was turned off and in every case auto update was turned off. and yet the updates still downloaded and updates ran. I would not even have known if I had not been awake at 3am.
