Let me introduce myself.... - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I'm just an old fart that likes to tinker with electronics. I am by no means anywhere close to being a developer, themer, ect... I just like tinkering with my phone. I've lurked these forums a couple of years now trying to take in as much as I can. I came over from SDX (HAXSUNG) when I retired my Moment and got my OG Evo. All I can say at this point is "WOW" what an awesome site this has turned out to be. A BIG Thanks to most all members for being so helpful, brainstorming and working together to make our phones unique and better than ever. Everything I've ever learned was from reading and researching these forums. I've never had to ask a question nor have I ever needed to. Simply put, I follow instructions to a tee and never have any problems. Again, Thanks to all the Devs out there for the awesome work that you do.
Anyway, the reason for this post is not only to introduce myself but to also let everyone know that if you do your research, you will find your answers without asking. Of course there will be exceptions, we all know that. I just purchased my new EVO LTE and wanted to get it unlocked ASAP to tinker over the 4th of July. While reading the forums to understand how to accomplish this, I noticed alot of people were having problems with S-off via Lazy Panda method. I was scared at first to even try, but I had faith in the Devs that they know what they are doing. To make a long story short, I followed the instructions perfectly and achieved S-off without a hicup
I've come to the conclusion that most issues that people have here (not just for our phone) are a failure to follow instructions. Do your research people, take a chance once in awhile, you will be very pleased with the outcomes you achieve on your own.
Awseome site, keep up the good work all you Dev's, themers out there. Your work is very much appreciated by people like myself.

It's nice to hear something like this
The worst part of people not reading is that when they ask the question that was answered hundreds of times on the same thread it clutters it up more and makes it even harder for someone else to read and find the answer to begin with.
Anyway glad to hear you got your phone S-OFF without any issue, enjoy the awesome mods/roms that our devs have made

Welcome! Old Farts Unite.

Lmao to everyone saying they are a old fart

WoW that's me!!! This is an awesome site. I've also been lurking here for about two yeas, after I got my first Evo...

Great post! Welcome to the LTE forum! Good to have you aboard. I like your attitude, feel free to PM with questions anytime

I'm almost an old fart in life but feel like one for sure on these forums. It is a shame more folks don't put the time in to figure out stuff on their own, it is so much more rewarding that way!
And I too had a moment and have been at sdx from the gitgo, things just happen much more quickly around here and the information available is amazing!
What a good post you have here, old geeks rule!

Wet farts can learn a lot from old farts, you sir are exactly right, with a little research this fresh fart has found answers to many questions on this great website. Thank you fellow sharts

I'm a middle aged fart, and I can't wait for the kernel source to drop. I developed a couple kernels for the EVO shift and I am very anxious to get a kernel built for the LTE...
I also couldn't agree more with the "do your research" statement... Me personally, I would have said don't be lazy. Lol
This community seems awesome so far! Can't wait to see some of the cool stuff our great devs will release!

Its nice to know I'm not alone out there
Thanks for all the awesome replies !!

Welcome! A post like this is very appreciated, for the people that don't, search before posting! It helps the forum stay so much cleaner!

What's up with you giving everyone crap for making a thread. Ya, some threads I'm sure xda could live without but atleast this person and the other that you were giving a hard time posted this in the general section and not the development. Calm down and let the mods do there job. If they think this is a waste than they'll close it but I see no problem with it.

I'm sure you can but that's the problem with xda lately. A lot of people are more worried about bashing each other or policing forums then they are helping one another. Don't get me wrong, there is things that shouldn't be posted and there are threads that shouldn't be started but guess what, that's not my job to say what's good and what isn't. When I first came to xda it was such a great place to learn and I had so many people that helped me and if it weren't for them I wouldn't know half of what I know now. Not saying I know alot but now days I can't imagine coming here and being new and asking a question. Ok. I'm done. Usually don't get into stuff like this but I used to love xda and I've learned so much from this place and I use to really enjoy hanging out here but things have just fallen apart.

Even when I joined back in March **** wasn't this way. The EVO 4G forums were so ridiculously cool and laid back there. That's why I joined, I wanted an easygoing community. Sad to see XDA shaping up to be the way it is... the drama between Virus and JoelZ9614 in the EVO 4G forums today was insane...
It got ugly between them, and yup EVO forums back In the day were awesome any question you asked was nicely awnsered and wasnt thrown back at you calling you an idiot or some other harsh word that are beign used today. It wansnt till I got in the EVO 3D forums were I saw a bunch of B.S that was childish to begin with. XDA has changed for the worst.

My rant

I do not know what certain peoples issues are, maybe little man complex or internet tough guy thing but it is friggin ridiculous. A noob posts a question and out of 30 responses he gets one that is an answer. You guys need to chill and I am willing to bet 99% of you would cower in person.
I am a family man with kids so you insecure people do not phase me, but it is downgrading the quality of xda and that is proven by less visits and posts by devs.
To those with patience and a desire to help noobs and others thank you. Mag,freeza, myn, empire, virus, leo and tons of others, thank you for your part in making this site bearable between the immature losers.
I am done with this topic now and will leave it to the bad ass guys to flame away. And by the way, I wonder how many of those smart asses have developed anything lately? Maybe they have, I haven't looked but just a thought.

Yeah, it also crazy how people get mad at someone for posting a thread in the general section about how they feel. If you don't like the thread don't comment on it.

Maybe it will help the slower tough ones if we post the definition of general since I doubt they have dictionaries and their educated friends are too busy to help them.

Honestly, I wish mod's would just instantly delete any smart ass comments immediately. We are all here for the same reason, to learn more and how to mod our phones. I remember when I joined several years ago, there were no flames, and people helped out without posting something pointless like use the search button. We were all noobs once, and needed to be steered in the right direction.

True, but that's not always a valid excuse. Some quality contributors/dev's on XDA are only teenagers themselves. So there is always a flipside to the coin. That being said, it does feel like we need a yard duty at times. lol

True those devs are teens but you don't see them acting immature. And the way things are going. A yard duty is exactly what is needed to get the immature out of here IMO.
I made a comment to a certain member on here yesterday. One who always tries to belittle the person that made a mistake. I get tired of seeing that ****. I'm usually an easy going guy right out the gate. But that **** really gets under my skin. Why be a **** about it?? Just help and point or show him the right way. In the 2 paragraphs he wrote, it was all useless, instead of helping the guy out in less amount of space and energy. Felt good to know I had a lot of members behind me on that tho. There is hope!

I try to help where I can. I "troll" the q&a and general sections to answer where I can and help as much as possible. But in certain circumstances I have been know to be an ass at times and also post pictures to laugh at as well. While I see most here as normal people just looking for answers there are a select few that honestly need to further their education by returning to middle school and attempting to finish all twelve grades. Meaning u do get tired of seeing a select few that have no common sense nor do they attempt to fix any problems themselves. They would rather have someone do it for them and it gets tiring. Thise people r usually ruder than the people giving them a hard time to begin with. Sorry just my opinion

i try to stay away from post like these, but occasionally get sucked in.. i feel part of the problem here in 3D land, is that most of us come from different phones. meaning here on XDA we are coming from a different part of the forum. I came from the heroC boards, and everyone there was always helpful, if someone asked a question that had been asked before, yeah they may have gotten harrassed a little bit, but they got their answer. i think that everyone deserves the respect of an answer, but i also believe that you should put back into the community what you get out of it. for a community to grow, the community has to lead as an example for new members. give them the answer, but say i got this by using search, thats not outlandish.. and there isnt any problem with having fun either, you just have to know your boundaries, some people take it all a little too far.
i have been on both sides of this fence, and i am no internet tough guy. i just think we all need to lighten up and help the community..

Developers leaving or moving?

I'm sure this has been noticed and asked prior to this post. We all read the phenomenon in these threads and posts.
Question: Does it seem like some of the best Developers are leaving and moving their work to their own or core group based sites?
Why?
just concerned since I can count more than a few who've left, for whatever reason, in the last 6 months...
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Drama I guess. I'm kinda bummed that my old og Evo is more popular for development than my 3d. I thought most would move to the new phone.
It is what it is pimpin. Some leave and some stay. Our forum went through a crazy phase of children being stupid and a little growing pain. But I think we're mostly over that.
But your question has been asked countless times. A quick search would have brought you up to speed.

Did quick search it. Seems to me that either you are in or not. With our phone being difficult to get the basics functional, the practice of running off the guys that move development forward is slowing progress to a crawl.

Yeah, I feel ya man. Annoys the hell out of me sometimes. I know I personally stopped participating in getting on people who harass the devs or intentionally start drama because the mods say that it's not the communities job to do that. It's theirs. But, it is what it is. I'll still be on this phone until my contract is up. Which is a long time, so most of us aren't going anywhere.

Developer Appreciation Thread (For the Eris)

I got this idea while lurking on the rezound general forum, and a lot of people have really pissed off the amazing devs that offered their help to bring out the most out of the phone. Yeah, it might be a little late to be making this, but with the Eris being my first phone, the community here has pretty well taken care of each other and the developers stuck with us, at least, until they got a newer phone and moved on. My experience in the rezound forum has been a little less than savory, especially in the last few weeks. All of the trolls and wannabe heroes that tell the trolls off have made me remember and miss the good old days here. It's been too damn long, and these devs deserve a thread where we kiss their asses (no sarcasm) To all the devs that ever worked on the Eris, thank you for all of your hard work.
Here's a list of the ones I know of below. I know that there were a lot, so there may be some missing. Just make a post or pm me and I'll add you if I missed you. No particular order. I just went through the first 11 pages of threads in the development subforum.

Thanks as well. This forum introduced me to the whole rooting experience and allowed me to keep using this phone long past what I would have put up with if I had to remain stock.
A a developer I know the troubles with any project and appreciate all the efforts.
Unfortunately I dropped the phone the last week and screen died, so I had to do a quick upgrade. Though about he Rezound but ended up with the LG Spectrum. Nice screen, rooted, but not much in the way of ROM's. Have to wait until ICS comes out.
Again thanks folks.
****ing right. It was a little more then a tear ago I stumbled upon this place and took took the plunge to root my Droid Eris, knowing that I was running 2.1 and would never see anything higher then that cuz the Eris was already at end of life. Then boom rooted unlocked and running gin-tazz. I've been hooked ever sense. Now mongoose is still putting work into this device running 4.0 haha amazing. Thank you all very much

There's so many things he's done for the Eris community, both here and over at AndroidForums, it would be a crime to not have his member name listed for posterity along with all of the other fine folks you listed above.
He is, without question, one of the most knowledgeable folks to have ever posted here at XDA and many, many folks are indebted to him for his help (me included ).

Some forums go overboard with pinned threads, or at least it's overwhelming how many there are. There aren't that many in this section. What does everyone else feel about if this should be pinned or not? I do.

The eris was my second android phone after I left T-Mobile and my G1. This community has been incredible. I would also like to thank DS36. He was always willing to help out noobs like myself and his tweak thread was pretty awesome. This really has been the best community I've seen here. I miss the good ole days of kaos froyo and gingertazz. Thanks to all the devs that made the eris awesome. And thanks to jcase for making it easy to root my kindle too.

I miss this forum a lot. We still haven't got s-off figured out for the HTC One S. It's pretty sparse over there.
But man, back in the day this place was humming all day every day. Workshed made it a beautiful phone. Even compared to the phone I have now, it seems like it flew. I know that's just the nostalgia talking, but I don't care. GSB is a great rom.

Thanks thread

Just want to give a BIG shout out to EVERYONE in here, especially the DEVS and Modders of course individually Adam Outler and his team of genius android minions who got our phones back from the dictatorship that is verizon.
Also a huge thanks to EVERYONE who contributes here. For a bunch of people to band together and help a bunch of other people that you dont even know is pretty amazing. when you could just as easily say "sorry about your luck" ...especially when there is really no reward other than a thanks button. much love to all of you.

I guess we're not such a bad little community (note2) after all.

Nope. Glad to be here.
Yep, I'm really impressed at how much the developers have accomplished in such a short amount of time since this device released! It's been like, what, a little over 2 weeks? Yet we already have root, an unlocked bootloader, a way to get back to factory stock, and a bunch of custom roms! This dev community has helped to create a bright future for Verizon's Note II and I can't wait to see what else they have in store!
For me this site the awesome work done by so many devs here is why I run an Android device, who wants a walled garden or a phone everyone else has when you can be as custom and crazy as you want to be. Thanks to all who make this a great community to be a part of.

This is the best thing I have seen on xda in a while I just got my note 2 today and seeing a thread like this is awesome. I had the Evo lte on sprint and everyone was so sad/mean because of how long development took. Only a few people actually understood what theses DEVs do and don't have to. But I want to express my thanks as well.

I definitely don't complain about things I can't do myself. My thought to the ETA guys is "if you want it done so fast then do it yourself" I think the team working on the note are some of the best out there...I mean this thing has been out 3 weeks and beanstown106 has already kicked out like 3 ROMs. I mean these guys could punch out roms faster but theyd be buggy as crap. Personally if im putting my name on something its gonna be right. Its crazy. We are just scratching the surface of the dev/mod potential of this phone I think. This is my first Sammy and I'm so glad I made the jump.
I've been following this community since the day it was posted on xda. I've been following everything going on and even donated here and there. I've read and studied every single page lol. I won't be getting my note till after Christmas, but it's okay I feel like a Odin pro by now. Lol. I too wan to shout out a HUGE Thanks. These devs deserve every bit of it.
