Pandora App Issue When Used Over Bluetooth - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this is out of place here, but I'm getting zero help from Pandora and Alpine on this one. Just wondering if others have seen this issue and how it might be resolved.
When I connect my Alpine CDE-HD137BT car stereo to my HTC Thunderbolt running Pandora, the connection is made and the music plays. I can even skip, pause and play songs from the car stereo buttons. But the Pandora app on the phone just shows a black screen with:
Pandora
^v (up/down arrows)
Alpine
...and not the regular Pandora screen with the artist, track name and cover art.
If I go to the Android notifications screen where it shows what song is playing in Pandora and touch that notification, it takes me to the Pandora app and very briefly (for a fraction of a second) shows the regular Pandora screen, then immediately goes to the screen described above.
The Menu button when the screen describe above is showing only gives one option: Quit. This, of course, ends the Pandora app altogether.
I've seen videos online of others controlling Pandora on their Android phones from this particular stereo unit, and the normal Pandora screen is shown on the phone, which should be the norm here.
Any guess what's causing this? Anyone seen it before?
I'm running a rooted version of the stock Gingerbread image.

If you go into the settings before pairing your device hit the advanced menu and select Bluetooth for automotive.

Yes, that I've done, thus the fact that I can hear music, skip, pause and play. Everything operates normally, there's just this annoying screen, as described in my original post, overlaying the normal Pandora screen, so I can't see what's playing.

Hmmm... Thats really weird.

I have the same head unit and pairing it with my HTC EVO 3d running Mik's ICS.... I too have the same screen... It might be a HTC thing

old thread, but I just got the same head unit today. I've got a droid 4, and Pandora does the same thing. It's a pandora thing, not an alpine thing. When the head unit is first connecting, the screen says the same thing, but instead of alpine, it is accessory. It might be getting the alpine logo over bluetooth, and it's just a generic API.
What you can do: just do bluetooth audio. You should still be able to control pandora, but you will probably lose the thumbs up / down and other pandora specific features, but play/pause, and next track should work just fine.

its both Alpine and Pandora if you want to display pandora and not the black alpine/pandora screen use the BT Audio function you have some of the functions you can skip songs play and pause but you cant use the search feature or thumbs up/down

[Q] Music playback issue

Ok, this one is a bit WEIRD.
Just went out to the trail, and I loaded Endomondo (wanted to check it out), and then I started playing an album in the stock HTC music app. I lock the screen and put the phone in my pocket, start running, and bam...the song skips to the next one. And then the next one, and the next, etc.
I take the phone out, screen is unlocked, Voice Dialer is on screen, Subsonic and Google Music app loaded as well, and my phone started dialing the last person I spoke to.
I close all of the apps, and try again. As soon as I start running, and consequently start shaking the phone on my pocket, the same thing happens. A battery pull stopped this behavior, but I was able to reproduce it again when I got home, just by playing a song, locking the screen, and gently shaking the phone.
Anyone else experience any similar issues?
EDIT: Just to mention that I am able to reproduce a similar thing with ANY music app. In most cases, the playback stops and the Voice Dialer is on screen.
EDIT 2: Looks like I'm not the only one: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/364209-head-phones-causing-songs-fast-fwd-skip.html
EDIT 3: I think I figured it out. Sometimes, when I plug the headphones in, the phone detects it as a HEADSET. /sigh
Should I take this thing back?

anybody get a FC on an incoming call from DSp?

sorry, disregard, apparently dsp isn't cooperating with sense 3.0 juse tyet

Yep same problem here... Be sure to report the issue to HTC

I had the same exact issue after I installed Google Music. The only fixes I found were to manage to get to the task manager and kill everything. Also, I noticed that if I plugged my auxiliary cable in halfway the headset icon with the mic would appear, but when I push it in all the way the headset icon would appear without the mic and the problem would be gone.
I've been having a similar issue, although it hasnt opened the voice recorder when my phone is in my pocket sometimes the song will skip around, sometimes it will skip to the next song.. it's odd. I think it's more of a software glitch than anything..

[Q] Music player acting crazy

Had my 3d 2 days now and when I listen to music on the stock music player it skips songs and fast forwards on its own. It does this when screen is active or on standby and its driving me crazy. If I pick the phone up its like moving the phone makes it go haywire. But it also does it if left untouched. Is anyone else having this problem?

I had one random reboot. And skip songs.
enjoying my EVO 3D. But root would be nice.
Mine has been doing this too. But only with something in the 3.5 jack. Driving me nuts! OP, did you come to any conclusion? Like having to get a replacement or anything?

I would like to know more about this too
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
if its skipping songs then the interference from the headphone jack is making the phone think you have something like iphone headphones that can control music, download headset blocker from the market and it will stop
it wont stop the music from stopping when the headphone jack gets unplugged though
This problem only seems to happen if your phone shows a headset icon on the top. If it shows a headphone icon, you should be ok.
If it shows the headset icon, just unplug it and replug it in again.
download the block headset app from the marketplace. you're welcome!

Mine loses it's mind every time I plug something into that jack. And yes, Headset Blocker works. Make sure the widget is in color, indicating the blocker is turned on. Then it'll block the incoming control signals that are causing the problem.
Mike
I have DoubleTwist installed and I turned off the Headset controls in the settings and I seem to be good for now.
Edit: Well, slightly better.

[Q] ICS and Bluetooth issue remains when paired and streaming music--- Anyone else?

I havent seem to run in to anyone with this issue.
I pair my phone to my car stereo fine in the stock GB rom. Play music and talk on the phone endlessly.
But with any ICS version so far, even official. It causes reboots, randomly.
Am I the only one suffering from this?
Not the same, but something similar.
I can connect with my car stereo, have to do it twice (once for music streaming and once for handsfree). Once connected, i can stream music fine. Even the controls on my steering wheel work. When I receive a phone call sound is muted and i can talk fine as well.
After I hang up the phone, the music doesn't come back, only a 0.5 second stutter every 2-3 seconds. On my phone, in the music player I can see that it's my phone that has the problem; the visualisation displays exactly how i hear the sound.
This behaviour also occurs when I turn off my car and turn it on again.. there doesn't seem to be a single thing that i can do to get music to play again, just some fiddling usually gets it to work (but then i have to stop my car first before i can have music..)
If anyone has any ideas for troubleshooting let me know!
I honestly think ics has compatibility issues with certain bluetooth devices.
We can only hope they realize this and take measures to correct it.
Gingerbread is flawless.

Just a notice that this seems fixed for me now.
I've upgraded to the 4.0.4 Rom found here: Click!
Next to this i'm using the app "doubleTwist"
ICS talks a different language then gingerbread when it comes to A2DP, especially for the play/pause commands, which seem important to me..
A2DP issues
I find I have similar issue. I have a SONY bluetooth deck in my car and my phone will lock up and force restart mid song or mid phone call.
Anyone have any ideas apart from flashing that 4.0.4 Rom

Blue tooth controls

Found my first douh. I use the LG700 stereo Bluetooth headset and the controls are a little screwy.
Volume up and down, no problem. Track forward and backward no problem.but the play/pause button doesn't work right. Pauses only if you hold down the button. But does not play again. Actually play function doesn't work with button at all.
Haven't used call button cause this headset sucks for calls. But great for stereo Bluetooth play back.
Just thought I'd share, maybe someone has a solution.

Ok, I am going to dig this thread up. Its only less than a month old anyway...
I have the same problem. With my Bluetooth FM transmitter, I am able to skip forward and back tracks but I cannot play or pause.
Worked fine with my Evo 3d. Anyone have a solution ?
This probably doesnt help you much but I use the Wireless Beats from Dre and everything works fine.

Bluetooth Play Pause
I have this same problem too. I've done a little fiddling to find that it's somewhere in the BT communication.
I upgraded from the OG EVO and previously used a Belkin BT receiver to transfer Pandora to my car stereo EXT plug. It worked very well with the OG. When I got the new LTEVO, I immediately noticed that the Play/ Pause wasn't working.
I've installed a couple of BT media widgets to help figure it out. I use the Media Button widget to mimic the functionality of the Play/Pause BT command. When I start Pandora and then use the P/P Media button, it operates perfectly. So the command is being interpreted properly by the Apps when it is received.
Next I installed a Widget called Media Button Router, which allows the BT command to be received by the phone and then pauses the current app and pops up a menu to choose which program you want to send the command to. When I hit the P/P button with this widget operating, the menu pops up properly and then attempts to send the command to the app. In this case, Pandora pauses while the menu is up. Once the command is sent to Pandora, it is ignored. So this means that a command is being received, however it is not the correct P/P command that the apps will respond to.
I am really hoping that any update to the kernel by HTC will resolve this soon. Either way, as soon as KushDeck has a few more miles under the CM9 build, I'll be jumping over to that. I am quite sure that the AOSP kernel won't have this issue.

Any chance that the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol is having compatibility problems with older devices???

Yep I use media button router too. And it works somewhat.... Sometimes when I hit play/pause it will pause and still bring up the media menu... Sometimes it will pause the music for a second but the music keeps playing. FF AND RW buttons do almost the same thing with media button router.
I haven't had any problem with FF or RW on the Bluetooth. Just the play/pause.

This is pretty much the exact issue I'm having.
I use bluetooth to listen to Pandora on my car Stereo (JVC) and with my Evo 4g phone I had no issues with any of the controls. From my stereo I could skip songs and play/pause Pandora. I just recently got an Evo LTE however and while I'm still able to skip songs the play/pause button on my stereo doesn't do anything anymore.
From reading here, it sounds like that's the same issue everyone is having. All functions work over BT ~EXCEPT~ Play/Pause. This is actually a good thing that the issue is occurring so consistently, means we're more likely to see it fixed via an update from Google.
I have the same headset as the op and mine is hit or miss, but works most of the time. Sounds like it might be a phone issue hopefully it will get fixed with an update or after the source is released.

[Q] Bluetooth Audio-Play on Connect

Whats up everyone... I've had this phone for a few months now and can say it's easily the best I've ever had.
The only "issue" to speak of that I've found is when my phone connects to my car bluetooth, it doesn't always automatically play. I've tried clearing/resetting pairing, all sorts of different music players (power amp, google play, android basic, etc), even tried to utilize the Smart Connect native app in the phone to start the music player app when connected. I have all available options checked related to automatically playing music on bluetooth connect.
Bottom line, the problem is intermittent, frustrating, and I can't seem to figure it out. Is anyone else out there have a similar issue or have any tips related to this?

What stereo system do you have in your car? I have the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT in my car and each time I start my car up, it searches to auto connect to my phone. Once it does and I have it on Bluetooth Audio mode, it plays whatever song I just had played on my phone.

Also have a Pioneer head unit BT6400 I believe. Have used it with my past 3 phones... motorola and HTC without issue. The behavior you've described is the way all have worked in the past. Now, for whatever reason, sometimes it does not auto play.

Were there any changes you've applied to your phone? Safe bet is to clear out the BT connection in memory and connect as if new. Also try to limit to just one music player on the phone. Because I think it would automatically run off of Walkman, but other players can interfere.
