Any way to change or customize the directory where the pictures go when you take them or record a video?

IIRC, you can only choose if you want them stored to internal or external sdcard, not the exact folder

[APP] Avatar movie app

This app is for people who want to show off the Avatar movie on the vibrant but deleted the movie from their SD card or are using a different SD card.
You will probably want to delete the stock app from your system if you haven't already, and you have root permissions.
YOU MUST HAVE AN AVATAR MP4 ON YOUR SDCARD TO USE THIS APP
This app will NOT work with the stock copy-protected movie. You must use your own Avatar movie in a supported format.
What to do:
1. Install app.
2. Open app and select your Avatar video file from the video list.
3. Pick video player and set as default when prompted.
4. That's it! After picking the video for the first time the app will automatically play the movie when the app is opened.
Enjoy

That's what this "app" does, along with the original Avatar.apk. The Movie itself is on the SD card......

Yeah. Three ways:
1. Buy the movie and rip it.
2. Download the movie.
3. See if t-mobile will give it to you

Yeah, me too. But I would like to have the original icon to work in the new location. Digging around I found the movie was set up more like and apk then a simple shortcut to the app, probably to keep us from screwing around too much.
Anyone have any luck reassigning the original icon with logo to the movie in a new location like the system SD? Launcher Pro Plus has a great deal of flexibilities with shortcuts, but I could not get there from it. Looks like I need to edit the apk file. That could be fun, anyone done this yet or know how I could?

Hide pictures in files?

How can I put some pictures in my files but not make them show up in my gallery?
Try the free app called VAULTY in the market.

I'm not looking for a app I know there's a way to do this by changing the end extension to something else so gallery doesn't scan it
Thanks anyways
Create an empty file named ".nomedia" (without the "") in the folder you want the pics to be hidden. Done....

Ooooooh k thanks il try that and report back
Using that file will keep all "media" in the folder from showing. If you just want to keep certain pics/media from showing but want others to show rename the pics/media with a "." in front of the file name. Eg. "mypic.jpg" ---> ".mypic.jpg"
Got it worked thanks

Can you select micro SD as default storage for camera?

I was just wondering if you are able to select the sd card in the camera setting to use it as storage for pictures and recorded videos you've taken rather than use the internal memory.
Yes you can set the camera to default store to the SD card.

Yup, once its inserted, it asks you once you first open it. Then just select it.

or you just go into settings from the cam app and select from there
But burst mode shots default to internal regardless if setting is set to sd card. I can only assume to capture so fast without writing to card. A bit annoying.

[Q] Custom ringtones?

I have been trying to add my custom ringtones to my M8 for a couple of hours now and can't for the life of me figure out how to get them to show up in the system. I am rooted and have a custom rom running but can't get the ringtones to show up. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Try using ringdroid. I'm having trouble finding a way to set them as well. We used to be able to choose where to look for them but it seems to be removed.

After doing that it still doesn't show up. I go into settings/sounds/ringtones and the only ones that show up are the stock ringtones. Should the new folder be on the internal storage or the sd card?
Any ideas?
Internal storage for it to show in your ringtones

I must be doing something wrong then. I opened up the internal storage on my phone from my computer, created the folder ringtones, put the tones in it, rebooted the phone and still nothing. Am just about to give up.
Should look like this...if not right folder structure it will not read it....if they are a format the phone doesnt play then may not show as well...I use .mp3/ogg as my ringtones and no issues seeing them in ringtones selection. An after thought, custom ringtones for contacts or phone calls...not sure if same applies I would assume it would let you select if for contacts the same as for phone calls

It shouldn't matter what rom I am running should it?
Create a folder on your internal storage or SD card called "media". Inside that folder make a folder called "audio". Without quotes obviously lol. Inside that folder make a folder called "ringtones". Put all of your custom ringtones in there. I have mine in MP3 format and it all works fine.
You can also make folders named "notifications" and "alarms" inside the audio folder and add custom sounds to those as well. It's all picked up by my phone as soon as I add them.
I've been using this method since FroYo and it never fails. Also, I believe you can skip the "audio" folder step and put the ringtones folder directly into the media folder and it should work just the same.
Also, I would make the "r" in "ringtones" lowercase just in case...you never know when OSes will begin getting picky lmao.
Good luck.
It actually could matter...if the dev changed a line in aac it would have the issue your describing. I know this because when I was messing around with the build I use I changed that and couldnt get my ringtones to show just dawned on me about it

If on a custom rom ...look at this file...system\customize\ACC\default.xml
if it says this:

true

change it to:

false

and reboot

How to transfer pictures and videos saved on internal memory to SD

My internal storage is almost completely used up and it's mainly because of the pictures and videos I took. How do I move them to SD? I'm using Cyanogenmod 12.1

Go to storage in settings and the 2nd to bottom option is to transfer data to sd card! Done!!
Or use a file manager and transfer to your SD card only the videos and images that you choose.
I have to say though, that the method mentioned above, is nuch easier and less time consuming
