Developement status about L800 - Nokia Lumia 800

Im starting to regret that i bought this phone.
DLOAD bootloader still locked after a half of year. No active developer and no interest from the famous DFT team. Shame. What do you think i want a unlocked phone, should i sell my lumia 800 ?
Regards,
Oli

Oh im not joking I dont really see any inprovements in Lumia 800 DLOAD developement I see amazing custom ROMs for unlocked ones but no progress in DLOAD unlocking, quite a pitty
fyi man i dont mean it badly

i agree. And finding a qualcomm one is a *****,found one with 2.3 and eaaarly firmware,it was still DLOAD One nasty thing is we won't get wp8,and probably when devices with wp8 appear, dust will settle on our loved lumia 800

It's not like our devices will stop to working when WP8 is released. Another thing: no one is preventing you from messing around with the bootloader, there is a lot of information in the Dev. thread to get you started on working with the BL. And saying there is no progress in Development and Hacking on the Lumia 800 is just plain wrong...

No,it will not stop working, but there is no development for us with DLOAD bootloader(90% percent if not more)...

How is there no development? Developers will still try to target as much devices as possible. And you call a 103 page thread about the bootloader no development?

yes since nothing has been achieved?103 pages,2 pages, same to me if it doesn't work

What are you referring to by "doesn't" work? The technique there works for every Lumia 710 user and some Lumia 800 users. The thread contains valuable information about the bootloader itself and the filesystem on the phone. By saying that "nothing has been achieved" you are ignoring and offending the hard work of tenths of developers that risked bricking their devices by doing pioneer work. This thread has a great number of explained approaches how different levels of unlocks could be achieved and discusses how the current methods are blocked. Even by reading the last two pages you can see that there is still some movement. But most users just come here and complain without even trying to help to improve the situation.

If a fully unlocked phone is your priority, and the features that comes with it, you've chosen the wrong OS. Don't buy a phone expecting it to be unlockable. Your fault really.

Buy an android if you want a hacked device.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Im not really talking about OS. Im a .NET developer and i want to experiment with interlop services in developement, also all of the otger devices like HTC Titan are fully unlocked so its a shame that Lumia family stays locked and even if i read whole DEV tread and i know everything about bootloaders in lumias, nothing interesting was achieved in DLOAD territory DEV thread is now filled with speculations but not with the actual progress.

Well, there's an easy solution for $99/yr

Locked bootloader is a good thing?

Ok guys, before you start flaming, bear with me:
First of all, to get it out of the way, with the advent of 2nd init, a locked bootloader no longer prevents custom roms (CM7 2.3.4 runs fine on Defy and Droid X even though they only come with 2.2).
However, by having a locked bootloader, it is impossible for the user to hard-brick their device as no matter how bad you screw up, you can still always flash an SBF to recover. This would not be the case with an unlocked bootloader where someone accidentally overwrote their bl.
Thoughts?
<FLAMESUITON>
I don't believe so. How would someone accidentaly overwrite their bootloader? The person flashing a new kernel will understand the risks involved with tweaking all this low level stuff.
How often do you ever see someone totally brick their device from flashing kernels?
no
never a good thnig
LOTS of bricks were produced because people trying to unlock this thing

The by and large majority of users on this forum have very little understanding of what they're doing and are merely following the instructions posted. And I have seen plenty of "somebody please help me - I can't boot my device" threads!
Granted, a locked bootloader posses some difficulties/challenges for the true developers, but I'm coming around to the opinion that it also serves as a much needed buffer to the type of community that has become the norm on here. Just look at what's been going on in the dev forum since the Atrix came out: an experienced dev will start a thread, then 1k noobs post "is it done yet", or better yet start "demanding" support/results. The dev gets frustrated/irritated, voices his opinion, gets flamed, and moves to a different device. This has nothing to do with the locked bootloader (Moto Defy with a locked bootloader is now in the top 10 most installed/used devices for cyanogenmod), but more to do with the community/attitude...
Over the last few days alone, I have seen/been involved with at least a dozen bricks where a locked bootloader has saved someone's but and helped keep end-user device costs down (warranty).
Arg! I just don't know what to think anymore...

Yea but the only reason they were " saved by the boot loader" is because it's locked in the first place and they're trying to unlock it.

No you misunderstood - the soft-bricks that I've dealt with this weekend were on different devices with inexperienced people trying to flash their devices and missing a step here or using a wrong file there...

That's their fault. The guidelines are there, and it's the persons responsibility to know if something is going to brick their device, and it's their responsibility to follow all the instructions completely. Now, sometimes, the devs post some crappy tutorial, and it's a possible brick.
If they're on XDA, they know the risks.
Signed bootloaders present nothing but problems.

Not making excuses for them! Merely pointing out that the locked bootloader does not necessarily hamper customization, but does help keep device costs down.

It does hamper it down. Imagine a Samsung Captivate without the lagfix. I would've returned mine longggg ago if it hadn't been for that. That's not available with a locked bootloader.

Not familiar with with Captivate, but I have a hard time believing that it could not have been fixed even with the locked bootloader. Why not? Heck, we can now overclock a locked kernel?

Kernel modules. Ours isn't functional just yet though. Still interacts with the kernel, it just isn't native.
And I don't believe converting all partitions to ext4 is possible without low level access.

Just got a lumia 800

Right, never owned a windows mobile in my life, Im an android person, but Ive just bought a nokia lumia 800. The phone is a few months old but its in decent condition for its age. What can i do with this phone OR do to it (without screwing it up). I know the lumia 710 can be jailbroken (hate that terminology, jailbreaking is for ios devices). can the same be acheived with the lumia 800?? I guess i should do a search. Easy to do or a ball ache? Im still going to stick with my htc sensation but its handy to know this stuff and where better place to find the experts than on xda forums :highfive:
Any help and advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Edit.................Ive just found what Im looking for thanks

hi nice to see another lumia fan well it goes somthing like this
if your lumia has a qualcomm bootloader your free to install the custom rom in the dev thread on here but as i have found your phone might be on 7.35.0.0 and come up as qualcomm device but if you dont have access to the nand (in windows it would come up as a flash disc) then your pretty much stuck with stock roms and stock apps untill the dload bootloader is cracked. have a read in the dev forum there quite bit of info to get you started

Tip for when you need the phone to last longer (like weekend visits etc.)
Sync and mobile data is a huge battey drain. Disable mobile data and it the phone will last for days.
My advice is go slow..
With Android, most of the stock google applications like gmail were garbage so you had to go to the marketplace to find better versions.
Also, you have to root Android phones to get rid of crapware installed by carriers.
With WP7 and the Lumia..
Like iPhone, all the stock applications are excellent quality. The Mail program for instance is second to none; I don't even have any supplemental programs to it..
Also, while the Lumia will come with carrier crapware, you have probably already found out you can simply longpress and delete these with out jailbreaking or rooting. I understand this was a rule Microsoft imposed on all carrier programs to create another selling point for WP7..
So the only reason you would need to unlock would be to install homebrew applications, custom roms, or simply dicker around with the phone. All of which are fun to do but unnecessary.
In short, I found with Android (I had a Samsung Vibrant), you HAVE to unlock and Root just to have a good quality system. With WP7, you don't - the phone is good out of the gate and you only need to Root & jailbreak to do some higher level experimenting.
Good luck - hope you enjoy the phone!
What should I do?

Hello,
I have some carrier crapware into my Lumia 800 - it doesn`t let me to use another SIM card but the provider`s (it`s locked on Bouygues Telecom - France) And I was wondering if a NOOB`s guide to interop unlock my phone exists. Thanks.
Android convert
My first visit to the lumia 800 forums and I am in the same boat as the op.
I've been an android fanboy for several years (htc desire, samsung galaxy s, htc sensation, htc one x, acer iconica a500) and have found myself obsessed to the point of addiction. Yesterday, I bit the bullitt, put my one x on e-bay and ordered a network un-locked lumia 800 to be delivered today.
I would like advice on how to unlock the full potential of my device and will be reading this forum very carefully before I do anything risky but, before I start, could somebody possibly advise as to wether there is anything that is important to address before and during my initial set-up?
Hopefully I will not become too obsessed with my new venture and any informed advice would be much appreciated to a windows phone noob
ps Had a windows mobile 6.5 device a few years ago
Ive left the Lumia 800 as it is. I wanted to jailbreak it as I wanted to install a specific gps app, which I have on my androids but do you know what?? Nokia Drive is really really very good imo. Im happy with it as it is. The interface took me some getting used to though but thats just me. I will probably end up jailbreaking it in the end as this is what Im like, but for now, its ace

First few hours on the device and loving it. Couldn't sync google contacts which was really bothering me but did an update whilst searching for a solution and the update had solved the problem!
Would love to 'jailbreak' it (like to mess) but, rightly or wrongly, I am getting the impression that it's not possible on this. Any ideas how to do this? Is it like root access.
It's all very different to android but makes a great change so I think I'll be staying with this little beauty for some time.

Why there is no Hack, Unnoficial Rom, in this famous Lumia 920 ?

Hello,
I'm senior member, and i don't understand why there is no hack, unnoficial rom, or challenge about the Lumia 920 hacking.
It's a very very good phone, like the venerable HTC HD2, but....why there is a little subject in the Lumia 920 Windows Phone Development ?
I know Windows Phone 8 is newer and we need hacker but i hope we could doing amazing things like the other phones

Yeah they should have the same set up as OnePlus with OxygenOS, with the ease of unlocking the bootloader. ColorOS is a shambles and other than the software the find X is an amazing device.

Where did you read that from?
I can't believe that no one has searched for the file before unlocking.
But there again, we can;t get hold on the euro rom.
But it looks like selling it soon. Never again oppo
I'm not 2 sure but i think 1500 limit is for the 15 of every month that's all they unlocking at a time
It's ridiculous though especially when OnePlus it is very easy to unlock and flash. Also ColorOS well I will refrain from profanity.
Oppo are part of the same and it would be much better if they used a stock like OS much like OxygenOS.
This would make the Find X for me just sublime, but as it stands with ColorOS, the device is a looker but damn is it beeeep in the user experience.
And it looks like wuxianlin won't be posting the file\script that we need on his site.
Does anyone know of a way to mass tweet?

[ROOT] Any Updates on Root?

I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!

This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!

A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..
