Battery life with music? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else find it pretty poor? I think the max I can get is 18 hours, and that's without equalisers, I'm also using 128kbp tracks!
The iPhone 4S can get up to 40 hours music squeezed out!!

If you just want to listen music you can set the airplane mode on, that will add many, many hours.
Last year on holiday i turned on the airplane mode. I was able to get about 25 hours of music on half the battery.
I'am not sure but i think i had at that time the stock rom installed.

I lose 2-3% per hr listening to music & with minimal other usage/screen on time. Someone who works in audio commented in the Siyah discussion thread the other day that the lower the bitrate, the more juice it will use. Obviously the longer you listen to music the more pronounced this increased drain will be.
If you're doing other things with the phone (particularly with screen on/CPU intensive stuff) while you're listening to music, then obviously your drain is going to be a lot higher than listening with screen off mostly.
If you're serious about wanting to squeeze more zzzzs out while listening to music, there are hundreds of threads (thousands ?) about maximising battery life, obviously everyone's phone is setup/used differently, but if you really want to do something about it the info is here for you to do that. You just have to take the time to search/read/learn/experiment with settings.

Well, SGS2 has a 1.2 GHz dual core cpu and 4s has A5 dual core 800 Mhz CPU. By default of course. Then maybe (again : maybe) you need to adjust the governor, and definitely adjust display. AMOLED drying battery very well. And perhaps worth to check other players

I can definitely related to that "lag" part. I thought I was the only one who notice it, while everyone here says it's fast.
36% at 11 hrs of fairly heavy use and that is bad??? really? well i got 15 hrs out of mine yesterday with 4hrs of screen on, 1.5 hrs lte streaming audio (normally would be plugged in to a 3 amp, rapid car charger but i didn't as i am testing the battery life), and connected to wifi the rest of the day. moderate facebook and 30 min of launcher tweaking too.
not as good as my evo with 3500 mah battery, but way better than my evo on stock battery.

i dont think anyone will deny it has Lag. but the phone its self is not laggy. i notice it as well in the spots that he is talking about.
except i do NOT get the lag on the keyboard as he was mentioning....mine keeps up with every tap....even if i just start hitting the keys wildly TRYING to get it to lag.
i just notice it on big text message threads with pics and 100 threads....it has that lil hickup when opening that conversation.

Battery life on Music player

So im going on holiday soon and just want a rough idea on how long to expect from the battery with just listening to music in plane mode.
Im currently using xlite v1.3 ROM so my battery use day to day is awesome i get on avg 15 hours use and have 70%+ remaining(bout 40 mins music listening in car, web browsing, calls, texting and maybe 15 mins playing snake), also do headphones make a massive impact on the battery life? Headphones i will be using re either Audio Tecnica ATH M50 or Shure SRH 840 (the Shures are mine and the M50s a friends).
Would really appreciate if someone could roughly tell me as i have a 11.5 hour flight then a 5 hour waiting time and then a second flight of 5.5 hours...
Regards Matt
buy a second battery then you have no worries
I get well over a full day when listening to music (and taking a few photos etc) through headphones. Can't comment on using loudspeaker though.
I use Poweramp and am on Omega v11 so would expect similar battery life to you.

Snapdragon BatteryGuru

Qualcomm made an official app for saving battery called the Qualcomm BatteryGuru which works pretty well. It basically monitors your phone usage for a week and then makes changes accordingly to help you save battery life.
Worth checking out. I got good results on a Nexus 4.

Didn't help at all with my Nexus 4. I might give it a go with the ONE.

nexus 4 uses a snapdragon something pro. its a quad core proc. the HTC one uses the snapdragon 600 which is basically newest updated quad core version of the pro.
I'm not sure the One needs it. I'm usually at 50-60% after a moderate to heavy day....

The SoC in the N4 is colloquially referred to as Snapdragon S4 Pro, specifically APQ8064. It has four first-gen Krait cores, now referred to as Krait 200. The One has a Snapdragon 600 SoC, specifically APQ8064T, with four second-gen Krait cores (Krait 300). Krait 300 cores are roughly 10-15% faster than Krait 200, though obviously it varies a lot depending on workload. Both SoCs use the same GPU (Adreno 320), though supposedly there are some tweaks in the APQ8064T version.
Qualcomm is in a pretty ridiculous position right now; there aren't really any phone SoCs that are competitive with their latest, except maybe Exynos 5410 in the Galaxy S4 I9500 and SHV-E300S--though those are hard to come by so not a lot of battery/performance info is out about them.
Anyway, the battery guru thing is pretty worthless if you spend any time optimizing your phone for yourself, especially if you are used to using apps like BetterBatteryStats and Greenify or something similar. It just automates the process of looking at the sort of data BBS would generate and offer to make changes based on your usage.

I always wonder what people consider a "Heavy Day," I ran my HTC One to shutdown by 4pm the other day. It's al about how you use it. I am a huge streamer, netflix, turntable, play music, you name it, pictures with flash, constant gmail.
Although I have had really good days too, but mostly 50-60% on really light days, where my phone is sitting untouched for 5+ hours.
Just my 2 cents...

About 200-300 texts (most are work related or fiance), 2 hours of FM radio during commute on the bike, 30-45 minutes of music streaming from my home media server (working out). 10-15 calls. 25 minutes of article reading/forum browsing. Weather checking. Sports checking. BT, GPS, Wifi on 24/7.
I burn about 1.5-2% an hour with this stuff and powersave enabled.
on the very very rare "light" day, i've seen 65-75% at bed time.

Cool! I would consider that pretty heavy usage! I guess I don't ever use the power save functionality, and have a bunch of linked accounts which doesn't help. Auto screen brightness? I also use a lot of WiFi/BT, my day starts at 6am too, so I guess that could be making my difference!

Try the powersave. I'm trying it today with the powersave off. I don't notice any difference in performance, but the battery does seem to be draining faster than usual. My days usually start at 545-6 am, as well. And yes auto brightness and auto screen timeout are enabled, though I usually shut the screen off myself.

Wow that is extremely, extremely good and unheard of. Do you think you can post a list of your current apps (AppList works just fine)? I just want to compare because I'm almost certain some of my daily apps are draining battery. First day I got to use the phone I had the screen on for 20 mins while I was playing with it and burned through only 2% battery life in half an hour off the charger. Seriously, what gives with these rogue apps? They piss me off!

That's an ungodly amount of use, I can stream music, cloud based and on device for about 2 hours give or take. I don't txt that much maybe 5 to 10 a day and maybe 20 minutes worth of voice calls, bt off , GPS off and Wi-Fi off unless I'm home. Moderate facebook, random news articles throughout the day and some web browsing. I take my phone off the charger around 8am, by10pm or so if phone isn't already dead it's just about dead, and that's with power saver on.

Here is a typical day. Doesn't look like much, but it's over a span of 15 hours.
I think the Power Saver feature on the One serves the same purpose as the battery saver app. I had used the Qualcomm app on my One S and really noticed no change at all in battery life, plus it had a few annoyances (such as trying to connect to secure wi-fi thus killing my data connection). I am using the native Power Saver on my One and it works fine.

I think the key here is the screen on time and the fact that none of these really invoke heavy CPU usage.
Yeah my battery is dead by 6pm unless I charge at work and in the car. The only issue I have with this phone.

The power saver function in the stock rom is pretty good at conserving batter. Does this app do a better job?

Anyone have any feedback? How does it compare to the s7 and s8? The original x?
I just want a small phone with good battery life as my s8 is too big.

Really depends how you use. Example, if I have Bluetooth on always for Mi Band 2 connection, then it's about 3-5 hours. When it's off, it's 5-6 or even more hours. Coming from Samsung s6 it's real improvement.

Well the games I am looking at is mainly puzzle games, just worried mainly about performance since previous main phone was a xperia m4 aqua that couldn't do plain games and overheated. So I got myself a new main phone, axon7 and handles everything I toss at it but I still want a small and comfy phone for easy use on the go.

Go for the X Compact without a second thought. It has nothing to do with the M series by Sony, and handles everything in a surprisingly stable way.

Sadly Phone Idle process is a monster in battery draining. Never had more than 3 hours and half, even without playing games or watching videos.

5 hours minimum extra heavy usage Google photos uploading playing SF IV location on using camera at least one hour straight.normal social media browsing YouTube 8 hours easy,I am on mashmellow never updated this phone I have my pixel for enjoying updates

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+'s battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.

Decided to give this machine a full Saturday of being out around town. Woke up around 9am, phone was at 90%, did some errands, listening to podcasts, watched a lot of YouTube videos at my cigar lounge, streamed different news while in the car via BT, and at night walked the dog while listening to more podcasts via Samsung Galaxy buds. At 8pm I had about 19 hours of on time since last charge, nearly 5 hours of screen on time, and ended the day now at 19% before plugging the phone in while I showered and took out the trash and I'm back at 89%. I remember the days of my OG Droid or NEXUS phones and so this is just damn mind blowing. I will still get a ZERO LEMON for when I'm at the beach or Disney (live right by there in LA) as having that extra security of power just easies the mind but other than that this Note 10+5G is beastly.
7hrs SOT including over 6 hours of UHD youtube vanced playing and around 48% battery remaining. Brightness at MAX (using video enhancer).
That's more than decent in my book!

I got same SOT around 7hrs+ note 10 plus USA tmobile carrier

My Snapdragon AT&T variant did about the same or worse.
It was a hot running hog dog.
86+ blocked packages, plus extensive settings mods, plus disabling all power management and adding Karma firewall, a lot of time optimizing it... it now a fast, cool running machine with good battery life.
My advice is to play with it. Keep it running on Pie.
It may yet surprise you.
