WiFi issues / problems connecting - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

i noticed on my dinc4 that sometimes it fails to properly recognize that I'm out of wifi range or that i'm near another AP. For instance, I am home and everything works fine, i'm on let's say "HOME" at full signal.
I go to work, when I'm at work, it shows that i'm still connected to "HOME" at like 1-2 bars instead of 5 and that "WORK" is out of range.
I turn off wifi and turn it back on.
I now see "WORK" is in range but I can't connect to it... it just goes in "connecting" and stays there. If I reboot the phone, all is well and I am on the "WORK" network.
This does not happen every single time but more times than not. Anyone else experience this? Any general fixes to this kind of issue? Currently my wifi is set to never sleep. Performance mode is off.
I used to have this sort of problem with my OG motorola Droid but I always thought that phone had buggy wifi...
Thanks.

It's funny you mention this. I just noticed this behavior this morning on my way to work. The status bar stayed on wifi when it should have switched to 4g. Although my data worked, so it knew it was on 4g but that status bar never reflected the change. This isn't identical to your issue as you are talking about wifi to wifi switching...but I think the notification on the status bar is in the same ballpark.

so am I the only one with this issue?? no one else is having wifi weirdness?

Nope. WiFi is fine for me.

So, I was going to post a separate thread about my experience, which is my new Dinc4 has been rebooting constantly since i first got it.
but i've been suspecting that it has something to do with either the Play Store, or the radio.
I haven't been experiencing the same issues with the WiFi that you're describing. But the one thing that has most consistently caused a reboot is when I either launch the Play Store or an app update notification hits, when WiFi is on, but no known networks are available. The WiFi reminder function will come up and everything freezes and then...reboot.
It's hard to say for sure whether it's tied to the radio. But that's just my hunch. Either way, I haven't tinkered with this thing at all. The most I've done is side-installed Swype. But then I did a factory reset and still the same issue. So this shouldn't be happening.
Heading to the Verizon store now to (hopefully) swap it out. I'll add updates if I have them.

If you are unsuccessful in getting a replacement or have the same problem with your replacement, the menu that pops up showing you available WiFi networks before you open an internet-based app (Play Store, browser, etc.) can be disabled in Settings > WiFi > Advanced in menu > "Notify me". You could see if that resolves your reboot. (Note that this won't remove your "WiFI Off" notification in the notification bar, it will just stop that screen from popping up when you launch an app.)

yeah your issues sounds significantly different.. i'd like to see if others have the same wifi issues as I do - yours is more serious it seems

Yeah, sorry...forgot to mention that I had turned that off and was still experiencing the issue in different places, but it still felt radio-related.
At any rate, I just got back from the Verizon store with a new Dinc4. It was actually the most pleasant experience with them ever. I was trying to explain all of the above, but halfway thru, the guy was politely giving me the nod and saying, "Yeah...let's just swap it out."
So far so good. I'll report back if that changes.

I have the same wifi issue. I try to shut it off now when I leave the house to avoid data drops. I'm on stock, unlocked.

Just FYI...
Haven't experienced the problem on this replacement Dinc4 yet. I've had the odd crash while doing 10 things at one. And the other day, some unknown process was running like crazy in the background, making the phone run super hot and unable to hold its charge even while plugged in. Had to manually restart.
But otherwise, it's fine. My original one must have really just been a lemon.

I just got my DINC 4G today and have been having nothing but problems with wifi. It disconnects every few minutes from 3 different locations which are rock solid on my DINC 2, Kindle Fire and friend's DROID RAZR. Everything else with this phone is outstanding!

I have the same problem, but only on my home wifi so far. At work it stays connected. At home it'll drop off wifi, pickup 4G for a few seconds, then go back to wifi. It'll do that swap every 10 minutes or so.
My Inc2 and Xoom both never disconnect at home. Weird and annoying.

The only problem I've experienced with this phone's Wi-Fi is that despite setting "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Always," the phone does not seem to follow that advice. I often turn the phone's screen on after I haven't used the device for a while to see the Wi-Fi Off indicator in the menubar. It briefly connects to 3G/4G and then soon after reconnects to my home Wi-Fi (all in all taking about 2 seconds to make the adjustment). It's strange behavior, but it's not really a problem for me--only difference I've seen it make is that some push notifications that rely on a data connection are not pushed to my phone until the screen is turned on.
That being said, I have experienced no lapses in Wi-Fi while actively using the device, and Wi-Fi toggling itself off when the network is out of range has happened without a hitch.
I think it's primarily a radio problem but I think it may be intentional. The radio on this phone seems to be programmed to favor 3G where 3G signals are significantly stronger than 4G (even if the 4G signal is flawless and 3 bars at minimum), sleep aggressively when the screen is off, and latch on to Wi-Fi networks as quickly as possible and stay with them even when signal is spotty. Probably helps battery life but the cost is a less smooth data experience.

I would say what you just wrote sums my experience with the WiFi up perfectly thus far. Seems to be not following the advice of keeping wifi on during sleep. I, too, am wondering if I always have connection while it's asleep, and am not getting push notifications sometimes (maybe that's why my battery life is so good!!)

I have the same delayed push notification while on wifi issue as well, and it is driving me crazy. I *think* that this is some half baked battery saving "feature" in Sense 4. It needs to be able to be turned off. If HTC doesn't fix this, the Inc4G will not be my phone for long, and I will not be buying another HTC phone. Push notification means push, not whenever the screen is on. Am I supposed to keep turning the screen on to check for emails? Defeats the purposes of saving battery life, if you ask me......

Same here. That's the only wifi problems I've had and I'd *love* to get a fix for it. I mean, what is the "don't turn wifi off when asleep" option doing if this is still the behavior we're seeing?

Contact HTC and complain. If enough of us do that, maybe they'll fix it. I emailed them and got this response:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me at HTC.

I did the same. We'll see if anything comes of it. Until then...
Keep fighting the good fight!!

I have noticed something similar. If I turn off my screen while connecting to Wi-fi, it won't actually connect until I turn the screen on again. It goes through the whole process of looking to see if my access point is in range, then attempts to connect, then obtains an IP address, and then is finally connected, regardless of what step it was on when I turned off my screen while it was connecting.

htc smarty sync, htc implemented a "feature" that turns ur wifi off no matter what in between like 3am and 7am or some bs.
look it up, in the ROM Nitsuj17 and I are building we should have a tweak to turn this off..
also ive never had any issues with WiFi disconnecting, but, i also don't have mobile data on while i have WiFi on either, perhaps this could be why? if signal gets too low it switches to 4G? idk just brain storming.

[Q] MAJOR 3G Problem ....help me XDA, you're my only hope...

Hi everyone. Per the advice of others, I decided to make the leap and go with the Galaxy. The results have been......mixed. The main gripe is with what follows, which should seriously make those of you who haven't bought one yet, rethink about your decision. Also, this seems to be a common problem. I posted my gripe on Android forum, so I'm just copy the post:
"Hey guys. So, I just picked up the G2 and its cool for the most part but i have a pretty big problem. I live in japan, so I'm forced to ride the trains a lot. This means going under lots of underground tunnels. This is where the problem lies. Whenever I go under a tunnel and ,ofcourse lose 3g reception, when I come out and 3G reception comes back, my download connection doesn't. In other words, even though I have a 3g signal again, NOTHING WORKS. Email, browsing, anything requiring a connection stops working, just times out. In fact, under the 3G bar at the top of the screen, I can notice that the down arrow (which I assume means downstream) doesnt light up at all. The only way to get data working again is to reset the 3g connection. So, basically, everytime I lose reception and then get it back (which is about every minute or so on the train!) , I'm forced to reset the connection. This is such a pain in the *** I can't even begin to tell you..."
That posts sums it up. If you go here: h-t-t-p://androidforums.c-o-m/samsung-galaxy-s2/361794-3g-doesnt-work-after-regaining-signal.h-t-m-l
you will see other people with the same problem. Considering some of us go through tunnels every minute or so in Tokyo, having to reset the phone everytime after losing reception is a definite dealbreaker. Samsung confirmed that it was just "just part of the phone and maybe they'll have a fix in the future.
Do you guys know of ANY fix for this?
Surely I'm not alone in this issue? I've read others are experiencing the same...
Do you guys understand the problem? Should I film it or something to make it easier to understand?

I'm not sure what you mean...
If you're asking how to set the Galaxy for "3G Only" mode, just go to "Settings", "Wireless and Network", "Mobile Networks", and "Network Mode" and then set it for how you like.
Doesn't help my problem though...
Hi, you are not alone. I have this problem all the time as I commute too. I ride the Bart train system in the San Francisco bay area, which also goes in and out of underground tunnels, and I often have trouble regaining signal coming out of the tunnel. The tell-tale sign is the blinking or lit "up arrow" in the 3G icon in the status bar, but the "down arrow" doesn't light up. The data connection seems to just hang.
However, I do not believe this is a Samsung specific issue; I have had this problem with every single Android handset I've used.
On the Galaxy S2 however, I found out disabling fast dormancy seems to lessen this issue. That isn't to say it doesn't happen ever again...just doesn't seem to occur as often. I am able to make this assessment because I use the di.fm application on my phone during my entire commute, and after awhile I become keen to when/where my stream drops and when it resumes regularly. With fast dormancy off, I notice that my stream has a significantly higher uptime.
I don't know the science behind it, but I suggest giving it a shot. Dial *#*#9900#*#* on your phone and hit the button to disable fast dormancy. This is suppose to negatively impact battery life, but I haven't really noticed a difference to be honest.
Not even god could solve this problem. I'm sure if he did come up with a fix, samsung would give him another equally anoying problem
Yes this is the notorious "packet data hanging" issue with 3g/4g.
My SGS2 suffers from it but not all the time I go underground or in tunnels.
I think some people reported disabling fast dormancy helps, and some reported flashing back the original KE2 modem file helps.

your best bet is to download anycut and place a shortcut on your homescreen to the "Phone Info" activity. You can easily turn off your cell radio and turn it back on from there, without having to root your phone.
I believe this problem affects every phone, but some users are more prone to notice it than others due to their usage habits. It happens on E/3G/H/+. And in all cases, if you give it enough time, it will fix itself every time. You can visibly see this by keeping an eye on your phone's data symbol whenever you experience this problem. You will see it disappear for a second, then reappear and your data connection will resume.
I believe this is a problem with the phone not realizing that it is out of range of a connection point, and continues to try to negotiate with it. The reason some people do not seem to be affected by this problem is because even though someone is standing in the same spot, they may be connected to different nodes. You can check these out in the Phone Info screen shortcut created with anycut--note the CIDs whenever your data hangs. I have noted several problematic CIDs I encounter regularly on my commute route. CIDs seem to be location based, and while my data doesn't necessarily hang each time I connect with a "problematic" CID, whenever it does hang in a certain geographical area, it is connected to a problematic CID in that area. The point is that even a problematic node will not always cause your data to hang, but when your data hangs, it will always be the same CIDs.
That is what makes this so aggravating. It is almost impossible to reproduce this problem at will. Which means there just isn't a way for us to gauge the effectiveness of any "fix". There is no way to establish a control group because we cannot force our phone to connect to certain nodes; it switches on its own.

[Q] Bugs or is it just me?

I was one of the first to buy the HTC Titan here in Norway.. I love the phone and it's big screen, but still I need to ask about some bugs...
1. Freezing: Sometimes the touchscreen just freezes up. It usually freezes during a game or other app that uses some resources. This is pretty annoying..
2. Dial tone: Sometimes when dialing, the dialtone is put through the back speaker of the phone and it makes this very loud noise, almost like an old phone from the 90s. It's just happening totally random, and is also pretty annoying bacause it's really loud for the ear you have next to ur phone.
3. Voice control: This is totally useless. I saw a comparison on the HTC Titan vs. the HTC HD7.. The HD7 worked every time, and the Titan just kept on failing every task. How about testing the phones before they are released HTC?
4. WIFI drop: I've also experienced some WIFI issues. Sometimes the phone just don't wanna connect at all. But when I restart the WIFI connection or sometimes take a reboot it works again. There's no bugs on the WIFI with other devices or what so ever, so this must be a bug aswell.
I really think HTC need to step it up with correcting bugs. I remember buying the HTC HD2 when it came out and that one also suffered major flaws in the code. It's maybe the lack of good drivers that's causing all this bugs in the HTC phones? Anyhow, I need a phone that's totally bugfree and I think HTC needs to put more effort into doing just so!

1,2 and 3 : never seen this so far on my HTC Titan
4: Yes, I have exactly same issues with Wi-Fi. It seems like it is little slow on connecting to networks and sometime it just doesn't connect until I press on the network (although it was connecting to it before). It seems to me like phone is using less energy for WiFi to save battery but that does not produce good user experience.
1) Played a few games and apps and never experienced any freeze issues.
2) I'm not sure is loud for me but i'm OK with it. Same as my SGS II
3) Never had HD7 so I cant do any comparison but been playing with it since i got my phone. Never missed any of my word (except some weird chinese language that I tested )
4) Wifi too never an issue for me.
Just got my phone today so I haven't experience all your issues yet. Will check time to time again in near future.
I havent experienced any of the issues you describe. Sounds to me like you should swap it out as a faulty unit and see if another Titan behaves itself for you.
1. Freezing: none experienced. If nothing happened whilst the finger was on the screen, it was due to a cold finger.
2. Dial tone: have not encountered this yet.
3. Voice control: you're lucky to have voice control. No voice control on the Dutch ROMs.
4. WIFI drop: I have experienced this a couple of times. After two or three retries with reconnecting WiFi I get a connection and three bars on the icon. I tested this twice with my HTC HD2. While the phone said it was connected to WiFi but with no bars, my HD2 was completely WiFi connected with a working connection. At both tests there was enough bandwidth for both phones. normally both phones work well on the same wifi connection. These instances were not regular though 95% of the time I had no issues with WiFi on my Titan.
An new issue that I've found in Bluetooth.
I cannot connect my Titan to the microsoft bluetooth keyboard 6000. Anyone else run into this issue or know a solution?
OK good to hear that u guys don't have the same problems as I do..
The dial tone problem could be a carrier problem, because a friend of mine experience the same thing on his titan as well..
The freeze issue continue to be a mystery then.. Need to run some tests
Thanx for all the answers

Anyone else having a bluetooth issue with their htc Titan. Not only does the connection to my bluetooth keyboard not work, I can also not connect to another phone. I tested it with my HD2 and Samsung Galaxy Note. It seems to be a valid problem. The connection does work with regard to finding bluetooth devices, but I get an error, stating that the device is not compatible with the Titan??!! Does anyone know the cause or fix to this problem?
No,it is not caused by the phone this a feature of windows phone 7. Bluetooth can be used for the handsfree only.
I haven't those problems except wifi, sometimes it drops, but a few times of thousands, this is because of the metal case wich absorbs signal.
I have found only a bug: when you add a twitter account, during the synchronization it fails when synchronize contacts. But that is not the worst, windows live mail gets the same error when synchronizes and you can't get your mail either. If you delete the twitter account, the problem with windows live mail persists, even sometimes the twitter account deleted... becomes active again!
The exactly error is: We have problems synchronizing with m.hotmail.com. Not synchronized: Name: Twitter Contacts. The file couldn't be synchronized in your phone. Last attempt XXh. Error 86000206 (i'm writting what i remember)
I have not found any solution. Somebody tells that you can solve it deleting the twitter account, activating it later again, and synchronizing again... but it doesn't works for me
HTC Titan over here
I have wifi issue too. (WiFi stop working and show full signal. When i go away of signal still full) Turn off and on again wifi fix it.
Next problem is with touchscreen when batery level is low (less then 15%). sometimes screen not responding.
I have not encountered any of the mentioned Issues, but it might help o know if you are using the 1.08 or 1.09 bootloader as the new version apparently fixes some bugs.

(Different) Wifi Problem

Hi all, long time browser first time poster!
I have come across an issue with my TFP that every now and then, even when in the exact same spot where the wifi has worked before, it stops working.
My issue isn't range or anything like that.
When I go to my wifi settings, my Prime can see my network and many others around me, shows my signal strength as 'good' but when I tap my network and hit connect, it does nothing! The dialog box disappears and I am still not connected to my network, but it is still there in the list and still shows signal strength as good!
Has anyone come across this before/know a possible reason?!?
No idea. Try forgetting and re-connecting?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I am experiencing the same thing. Seems to be happening on both AP's and tethering from my phone.
Experienced as well
I also have this problem occasionally. I have always been able to solve it by either: forgetting wifi source and rescanning; or 2) rebooting.
I agree that it is irritating.
This happens to me nearly every time I try to make a new connection.
The one place that it happens less frequently is at work, which is strange, because the wifi here is very spotty. Maybe because the signal comes/goes so often the software notices it more? *shrug*
I as well do have this issue. To resolve my issue, I have been turning the wifi on and then off again. Sucks to waste 30 seconds waiting for it reconnect but it works. Seems to happen after the tablet has been sitting awhile
+1 on that issue, seen it many times on several primes.
How does it feel to beta test a product that was not ready for release?
What update are you on? I haven't had this happen since the initial upgrade to ICS.

Tried his, seems to work sometimes but more often doesn't!
Same version here. I have seen the forget/reconnect method fail also.
I had this problem when I had it set to turn off the wifi when it was sleeping. Once I unchecked that option, it never appeared again. Always had to reboot to get it on wifi when it happened.
Crazy. Obviously I could go into detail on some configuration changes for your routers or whatever, but I'm sure you've browsed the forum enough to see them all. And if not, even if you can change your own router settings it does no good abroad.
Tried several different networks with the problem occurring across the board?
Yesterday evening the problem attacked with a vengence, Could not connect to my network, tried several times turning wifi off and on, forgetting and reconnecting to network and several reboots, nothing would let me connect to my network, gave up and went to sleep!

I only found that option last night! My wifi has always been set to always on, but just before going to bed i changed this option to off when asleep, haven't been back to my prime to check it out yet.

Unfortunately I don't really have the opportunity to try different networks for long enough to see if this is a problem!
I have tried a few settings changes on my router, last thing left to try is static IP{ address, that is this evenings job when I can round up all my devices and grab their mac addresses!

Tablet S not holding Wifi Signal

I recently purchased the 16gb Sony Tablet S and am contemplating on whether or not to return it by the 30 day window due to sporadic wifi connection at my apartment. The issue is not as much the reobtaining wifi after the screen unlocks, as it is the general holding of the wifi connection when the screen is on.
I've isolated the problem to my specific router, as it works PERFECTLY at my GF's apt and my parent's house. Always connects right away and stays connected. However at my apt it doesn't always connect right way and have to manually turn the wifi off and on again, and sometimes have to manually hit connect from the wifi screen. When it finally obtains IP address it will connect, but most of the time for only a short period (like 20-30 seconds) before the wifi signal on bottom right just disappears. Then I have to toggle the wifi on and off again and try again. Very annoying. Sometimes it will connect though, and the wifi holds up like it should.
Here are the fixes I've tried so far:
* Reset and Factory Rest device
* Forget/Reconnect to network from device
* Update Router Firmware
* Configure Router - g/n mode and n mode from b/g/n
* Set Router Channel from auto to 1,6 and 11.
* Wifi Lock App (doesn't work and drains battery)
Personally, I feel like the tablet itself has an inferior wireless radio. Compared side by side to my other wifi devices, it has noticeably less signal at the router and diminishes quicker the farther away you go. Now, this doesn't really bother me as I'm usually always near my router. However, when I was scanning all the wifi networks around me (in cmd: netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid) I found over 30 networks around me all using the full channel spectrum. I've tried every channel on my router, but 11 seems the best.
Would a crowded wifi area affect the tablet? But again, my laptop, 2 phones, and PS3 connect at every channel with no problems at my apt. At my parent's house and GF's apt there are only 1 or 2 other available networks that could also be on my channel. That's the only thing I can think of.
I just don't understand why only the tablet is having wifi problems.
I have about a week left to return it, and would like to keep the tablet, but running out of patience. Next, I think I will try using MAC address and see if that works.
Any help would be appreciated!
Try this!
I had the same issue.
I solved the problem
1 - turn off wifi.
2- in accounts - turn off "auto connect"
3- turn on wifi ( test if work )
4- reconect the accounts
too simple .. but works , try it.

Thats certaintly not the problem since i have so many devices logged in on my network, and not having the same problems,
The Wi-Fi on Sony tablet has known issue's like loosing connection when screen goes standby, even if you checked this in settings never to shut down.
The steps in the post above can be the sollution, and if not, sony will make somehow a repair or a dev would fix this. goodluck.

Thanks. I tried that sequence and it seemed to work for a little bit, but then the problems reoccurred.
Again, the problem is not just that the wifi doesn't pick up right away after standby, but also, and more importantly, it looses wifi BEFORE the screen goes out while I'm using it, repeatedly.
Its very annoying and only happens at my apt and not at other networks. No other device on my network has this problem.
Nobody else has had this problem before?
I remember from older posts that tablet s has problem with certain brand routers. What routers are used in your places.

Its a ZyXel brand router that doesn't work. I'm pretty sure the one's that do work are both Linksys. The ZyXel router is probably a cheap one because it came bundled in a promotion from my ISP.
I guess I could try another n router, but still find it strange that all my other wifi devices are fine with the current router.
Wifi Signal
Sony is not as reliable as it used to be... My Tablet S keeps loosing WiFi signal, and the solution I found was to turn off and back on the WiFi. This fix the issue.
However another very annoying problem is that very often I need to hard reset the tablet as it locks the screen with no other way to recover it. Shame on Sony. An the annoying side flash light is ridiculous. I used to have an A100 that aside any design issues, worked perfectly never had any operational issue with it. Should have upgraded to a A500...
What worked for me.
I bought a Sony S as a birthday present for my wife. That was yesterday and today she went to work and left me to set it up for her.
I have a Cisco E3200 router. The tablet could see my router and connect to it but would drop the connection after 5 seconds.
Well, that was the first hour and a half of my day.
Finally, with nothing else to try, I set up a guest account on the router. The tablet found it and connected to it on the first attempt and has been connected now for over four hours including multiple restarts.
I have no idea why this worked. I just know that it did.
Clive.
Same issues here when docking tablet sometimes, but my work around is to turn WiFi off, and hit Fast Reboot ( app by Great Bytes Software) then turn WiFi back on. Fast Reboot seems to do a soft reboot on apps and system and it only takes a few seconds.
Hope this helps!

Wifi Issues
I bought the 32G version from Woot recently. The WiFi reception is awful. I am on my second unit same thing.
4 feet from Router (on 2nd floor), 3 bars out of 4. 15 feet goes to 2. Downstairs goes to 1 bar 1MBS. And drops like a hot potato. Sony has sent a RMA for repair. Being this is my second unit with same issue, I doubt there is a fix.
I use a LAptop, netbook, android phone on the same router. No issues. They all work well, even in the basement!
Updated to 4.0 on my original unit, no change.
Just ranting here, hoping for a surprise fix. Other than that Mrs Lincoln how was the play? I love the tablet otherwise. Will probably throw and a spare router downstairs or feed it off my 4G phone. Now that really sucks..LOL

sony tablet s wifi issue
Hi all,
after weeks of study here is what i found out:
- wifi issue is not a hard ware issue, it is simply the software.
- wifi issue occurs only with certain routers with both N & G channels , Especially Netgear and BT.
- Wifi manger app makes it better and less annoying, issue still there but less occurring. try different channels.
- Tablet S for some reason does not like the channels used by certain Routers.
- do not bother with wifi lock app, does not do the job and steals ur battery.
- after weeks of trial, tablet is just great, but needs attention from Google.
SO
My friend's wife works for Google, when asked for the favor of the insider , engineers in Google said, first stage is to roll out Xperia release 5 to try and fix problem, then both S and Xperia will get Jelly bean with a definite fix. Testing as we speak.
all I can do now is get a good router and hope for the best.

I have tried 3 different Routers.
Verizon/ActionTecMi424
CheckPoint Z-100G
Linksys WRT54GL
No change no difference.
I finally installed another router on the other floor. Now it works in entire house, but have to change router connections if I move to a different floor.
The big question here I think is:
Is every Tablet S this way or do we have some bad samples? Software or Hardware. Sony has given me and RMA # to return for repair. I am hesitant to do that. If there is no fix or all units are this way.
I am not 100% sure but from my own testing I found it working 90% of the time everywhere else, here is how I tested:
home netgear, does not hold wifi , have to refresh page all the time to browse internet.
Work ( different router not sure what type yet) works just like a dream, fast no wifi drops no refreshes needed.
took it to most free wifi spots, not a problem.
friends house BT, Same issue again.
Wifi manager made it a bit better yes ( have to test now on channels 12 , 13 or 15 , wifi lock app does not work.
I hate to get a different router to get same issue at the end. however different posts elsewhere suggested setting router to N on and G off channels testing each time you make a change, on tablet set to manual ( have not done this bit yet).
It's not like we are all being picky here with Sony, we like the tablet itself and we bought it with a lot of money, we want to be able to browse the internet download things without getting our livers and kidneys enlarged.
more to follow , I am really hoping to be able to get my friend's wife update as she told us GOOGLE IS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE.

WIFI Issue fixed
All,
there was an update last Thursday that fixed the wifi issue, I am not really sure what but my tablet s now holds and keeps wifi everywhere.
I had issued before with netgear and bt routers and after last Thursday it was just fine, i need to review the recent updates done and Let you all know.
I tried it everywhere and works perfect, download speed is perfect , not one drop of wifi so far.
I assume either Sony or Google did something here as it was getting an update last Thursday that lasted about 10 minutes, could not figure out what was that update yet.

wifi issue

Anyone notice that the xa ultra has some wifi connection issues? For example I'm connected fine and everything and I leave my house and come back.. then it doesn't seem to pick up my home's wifi. I have to restart the phone then it comes back. Anyone else notice this?

Never had that problem.

Every. Single. Day. I leave my house and the wifi won't reconnect at school, or home. I restart my phone and it connects just fine. When I'm at school it won't connect until I restart, and then it connects there fine as well. It would be interesting to see what variables between locations has cause/effect on the connection. I'll do some analysis when I have time, see if there is a time variable associated, like if it happens right away or takes time for the problem to occur. I have a feeling it's related to the cheap parts that Sony used, not sure what wifi chip is installed.
yeah I haven't had this issue yet either. Have an apple airport router. I have only had the phone a week but no problems.
OK it just now happened, (wifi won't connect) and I realized it was just connected when I was inside a building at school without cell reception. I put the phone into airplane mode, then turned on wifi, and sure enough the wifi connected. I'm thinking interference or lack of power is preventing wifi when a medium strength LTE signal is connected. I'll keep testing scenarios that fit this theory.
Just a quick update. It seems putting the phone in airplane mode, then manually turning on wifi only, the wifi connects immediately. Turn airplane mode off, wifi stays connected. No need to restart. Wifi drops on me several times a day and this is my fix. This fix did not work 1 time out of the past 20, and I had to restart.
Mine has been doing the same thing.... ugh Sony can't get their crap right no matter what they do. Dear God.
Anyone else having issues with auto brightness not working properly as well?

No problem here on the normal xa mine is a F3111 LTE model WiFi works and connects great on all Firmwares. Have you tried the software repair option via Xperia companion? If it's still the same after this, you need to take a log using the built in logging application and send the logs via Sony support forum it gives you instructions on how to do it in settings think one of the guys names is Richard, about phone, diagnostics, advanced logging they've actually been pretty good regarding any bugs and fix them once they have some logs to work from.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Unfortunately, the repair option didn't solve the issue. After Googling it, it appears many users with the 3213 model are having the same issues. Ugh.
I did not know about the "diagnostics" feature. I enabled it and then it auto uploaded and then turned off. So does support email you or Richard gentleman contact me via the phone somehow to give feedback?
Thanks!

As far as I know it's all done through a pm(message) through the Sony support forum. Then they pass it on to the software peep's and then wait for the fix it may take more than one person to provide the logs before they sanction the update unless they find a bigger problem.

Here's a funny thing, as long as I am not connected to Bluetooth, WiFi works flawlessly, weird.....
I'm just going to assume we have no fix for this yet? the whole resetting my phone is getting really tiring. blah I wish Sony would fix this or at least acknowledge it
I have the same problem with my XA. I've only had the phone a few days and I'm always having to switch it off and back on. SOOOOO annoying. The guy that sold it me said I could just return it. I'm not buying Sony ever again!!!!!
Been having to use my 4g at home alot of the time, which is eating up my data something rotten. It shows the WiFi is on and has full signal, but it's often so slow or even worse dead! I've honestly had 2g on a crap old phone work faster than WiFi at times. I have just "forgotten" all saved WiFi networks and signed into my home WiFi from scratch and put the password in again. Seems to have done the trick, but I'm not holding my breath that it's gonna last.
I'm curious, it might be insignificant, but just wondering what WiFi service providers all of us with problems have? I have BT infinity. For a while I thought that maybe it was just BT being rubbish. But my partner has a Samsung galaxy s8+ and she doesn't seem to have any issues. I've used the WiFi on my linx tablet, no issues. The Xbox one doesn't really lag either.
So it's either that this phone does not like BT or its just my phone being pants!!! Doing my head in, I have to keep getting my partner to send me extra data.
It's seriously getting on my nerves now

This is my first Sony Android phone, and I'm not touching one ever again.. What's worse for me is that mine is still on Sept 2016 update and my carrier locked the bootloader so I couldn't update it myself, as my network don't even care if I have the latest security updates or not
