Galaxy S III not able to get text pictures - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

everytime someone sends me a text pic I click download and nothing happens. It used to work perfectly but now its not. Do I have enable something in the options because im really confused.

You should be able to long press the image and select "save attachments" after that put a check in the box of the attachment(s) you want to save them click save or download. This is about as far as my advice goes. But it works for me every time.
Stock everything.

I had this problem on another phone recently and it was due to the apn settings. Do a search for your carriers apn settings and make sure they're there. Sometimes there's a specific mms apn setting you need to add

I had this same problem but it was caused by my micro cell network booster. Does the problem occur in and out of wi fi or everywhere?

if that fixed it, that is good but I cant imagine that your smartphone is rendered useless for receiving messages or media while on wifi.

[Q] Can't send MMS messages

Randomly this evening, my phone has decided that it no longer wants to send any MMS messages. I can send SMS messages just fine, but MMS messages do not go through. They sit for a while, and then it just says that the text message cannot be sent.
Anyone have any suggestions that don't involve factory resetting?

You have 2 options.
1)do master reset and retest it.
2) call your cell carrier.
I had a similar problem a few nights ago. All I had to do was reboot it.
That's all I need to do for a few random glitches.

No, data was enabled. I was able to browse the internet and such, so I don't think it was a connectivity problem. But it's fixed now, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Okay. When I said it was fixed that was actually a lie. It's started doing it again. I have no idea what caused it, but it will sometimes work and sometimes not. Any ideas anyone?

Will it be the APN settings problems?
In some country you have to set your mms APN manual
Mine does the same thing. A restart is only a temporary fix because it has done it again a day later or so. I have not found anything to fix it yet.
I am on 4g. Not on wifi. unlimited messages.

Try this on dialpad
*#*#4636#*#*
Wacth phone services
Then tap second right update buttom
It must be filled with Service Center Number, for sms/mms data. If you get 'update error', you may have a bug in system that prevents it from correctly setup of older sim cards (mostly cutted ones), if so, buy a new micro sim. It's cheap and solves a lot of small problems
Thanks, and if helps any way, share the learnin'

I tried this but every time I entered the code nothing popped up. But I think I've figured it out. It appears to only happen when I'm connected to a WiFi network. So I guess I just have to disconnect from WiFi if I want to send an MMS message.

I had the same issue, tried a number of things to fix it. Called Verizon and apparently it's a known issue that they expect to be fixed with the upcoming GB update. Other than that the only way I was able to workaround was installing Go SMS Pro, which sent MMS messages fine.
I figured out what the problem is! It stems back to the problem the Razr has with switching between 3G and 4G. In my house, I have to use WiFi because I live on the edge of a 4G service area. I get maybe one bar of 4G service, which without WiFi, pretty much refuses to do anything having to do with data. Apparently, even though WiFi is enabled, the MMS messages are NOT being transmitted over WiFi. So instead, it attempts to send them over 4G cellular data and fails because of the poor reception in my house. Switching the phone from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only before sending the messages (my signal reception jumps to 4 bars) allows it to send without failing.

Can't send MMS w/o enabling data

Hey, all!
Ever since i've picked up the amaze I've been having a mms bug. Can't send any pics w/o enabling the data first. When i hit send, it does display the 4g icon (i'm on stock ics, but it happened on gb as well), but in a minute or two the error message comes in. Once i enable the data and hit retry, it goes out smooth.
I haven't updated to a new sim-card yet (wi-fi calling wouldn't work on gb with the old one, but ics doesn't seem to mind), not sure if that's something to look into.
Let me know if anyone has any ideas
Thank you!

Mms is a data-reliant service, you need data enabled to send or receive. Thus...I would not classify this as a bug...

was it hard to just say you can click on the "mobile network" icon to bring up the settings tab vs the switch, as i had no idea it worked like that now? thank you.
Update: still no dice with the correct settings. 4g icons shows up and then i get the delivery error message. once the data is forced enabled from the drop-down, it's golden. very strange.
Without data enabled, you will not receive nor be able to send out mms. No way around it.

i understand that, but when sending mms, there should be a trigger (which i can tell it tries to do when i see the 4g icon appear right after hitting "send", except for nothing happens) for the mms data to be enabled just for the time it takes to send a particular mms, otherwise, what's the point to always have data enabled? none of the smartphones i've had, had this happen (sensation included).

Go into your apn settings and delete it or simply reset to default, it should auto download the correct settings, no idea how to make mms work WITHOUT data being enabled, I find that odd to be honest, but if it worked on GB, then I think you guys should stick to GB, just to save yourself some dollars.
It has been a while russianbear.. Anywho, what previous people have said is true, if you actually have data DISABLED, it won't come on for anything(how would the phone decide you want it on for MMS, but not something else like browser?). I used to roll around with data disabled a bit when I had gingerbread, so I can confirm it was the exact same way - you had to enable data to send mms - if it was off, nothing data related would work.
If you aren't worried so much about how FAST is sends MMS, you could always set it to 2g only, then your phone simply couldn't send much data at all.. or an awesome feature built into ICS - go to system settings then click usage - turn on set data usage limit, and set it REALLY low - this will keep ANYTHING that uses background data from sending/receiving, but any app you use in the FOREGROUND will work like normal - open browser or youtube and they would work like normal..
I'm sure there's another trick that would work, but I need more coffee.. good to see you again russianbear.

i'm sure i'm not tripping when saying you don't actually need to physically enable the data connection for it to send mms (none of my prior devices needed to) i've downloaded go sms pro and it works like the stock app should - i don't need to enable anything to send mms now (all options in that app are stock also). not a deal-braker to me, but still strange.

LOL, that may be why I didn't have issues.. I hate the stock messaging app, so I always used gosms. I'm not sure why you would use that ugly HTC goodness anyways, lol. Good to have you back bro
After much time trying to have MMS working without the data connection being active, I found that putting only "mms" in the APN Type setting does the trick (don't forget to save the settings before exiting the APN settings screen). The problem is that the setting is not applied without RESTARTING the device! So, change the setting to "mms", save, and restart.
You need to have the "Data active" option ticked, but there will (should) be no data connection for internet.
PS: I did this in another device, not the HTC Amaze. But it probably also works for you guys.

i've tried mms only, but still nada. it's ok though, i like go sms app anyway
Actually I send MMS and the message leaves but the person who receives the MMS gets an empty MMS message.
After much playing around with the device, I discovered that inserting a picture using gallery or the explorer that comes with the Amaze are all fail.
The only way I'm able to successfully send messages is inserting the image using ROOT Explorer. When I send MMS the person no longer gets empty MMS messages.
Now I'm using the CapcomCE ROM and it happened on SpeedROM 7.5
I downloaded the Gallery ICS from market and its the same story.
So basically if I insert pictures to send through MMS I have to use the Root Explorer or else the MMS messages are sent empty.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

I'd bet that people aren't answering because they're not on the same carrier as you and they don't want to give you half-ass advice. The obvious thing is to make sure your data connection is on. Are you sure you're connected to your carrier's data 3g/4g network? Try disabling wifi and re-downloading the message. As I said I'm not on the same carrier nor the same country as you so it's rather difficult to troubleshoot. It could be a problem with the leak or your carrier

Thank you for your reply, I will gladly take half ass advice, simply because it is better than none. If ten people suggest something I may not have tried, I could at least narrow the issue down.
Although people may not be on the same carrier as me, there are many using the same ICS release.
Are you using the XT910? I'm assuming you are not having any MMS issues. What data settings are you using? What messenger do you use?
I have done all the things you suggested before I posted my question. I have gone in to my APN setting and ensured that Telekom is selected. I have noticed ICS doesn't seem to have as many options for network settings that the past versions had.
All in all I'm looking for any kind of response from anyone using the .33 ICS leak in regards to receiving MMS. Are they able to get the image sent to them or not?

I'm using the XT910 GSM for Rogers (Canadian Carrier). My data is either off or on, got no real settings beyond that. I do know that if I try and retrieve a MMS while on wifi with the data connection off, it won't download the message. I use the stock messenger too (something you may want to try if you're using a 3rd party messaging app). I've never messed around with any of the APN settings/other network settings.
Sent a MMS this morning no problem this morning and received one this afternoon no problem. Honestly, not sure what the problem could be

So, I started messing around with the Tmobile APN settings and messed up my data. Then I reset APN to default and noticed the settings were different than before I started messing. Now it seems to be working!

has anyone ever figured out a way to turn off voice and keep data active ?

When gaming and you get a phone call it obviously drops to 4g and you get lag. I would like to turn off voice altogether and keep my data completely active and unphased.
Not sure if this has ever been made possible?
I gotta think there are many, many people out there that want this too.

Have you tried turning on 'forward all' under the call settings? All calls should go to VM or whatever number you specify before they're sent to your phone.

The only way I have found to do it is though the HTC hidden phone settings. This allows you to change your radio to LTE only. Obviously you cannot make or receive calls when this happens. But tethering and text messaging still work.

[Q] Send pictures while in a call

So yesterday I'm on the phone and I go to send a picture to someone(MMS) and after a bit it came up with a box saying it failed and to retry now or later. I tried it a few more times and still nothing. I know my Galaxy S3 allowed me to send picture messages while in calls so is this a device limitation? Am I the only one experiencing this? Or is there a New law or something that doesn't allow picture sending while in calls for some reason?
Just wanted to get some feedback to see what other people are experiencing.

Which app were you trying to send it through? And no, there is no new law that would stop this.
Is it possible you were on wifi when you were trying? From what I understand Verizon devices will not send picture messages over wifi, they have to use the network.
Stock LG messaging app, stock dialer. Rooted device and that's about it. I noticed I actually do not need mobile data on to send and receive picture messages normally (not in a call) so I typically leave it off when I don't need it for data.
My setup when I tried was WiFi on and connected to my home network, mobile data off, and phone call present. Would not allow me to send the picture. I'll try it with data on later and see if it works.
Didn't think it was a law, Which is good. May be that the data was off. And yes Verizon phones do not send pictures through WiFi they do need mobile data for Verizon services (text,MMS).
Well weird.. Called my voicemail and sent a picture message to myself and it went through both with data on and off.
Well I must have had another issue last night where it wasn't wanting to send. Weird thing is it sent after I hit try again and was off the phone.
Only thing I could think of is that the area I was at before typically gets less coverage (although still 4g).
So I'm confused but as long as it works I'll be happy!
Any solutions please update us
