A Question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my S2 and installed a custom ROM because i was sick of waiting for Samsung to release ICS in my region ( Also i love stock ICS ).
Recently they released ICS in my region so i went to sammobiles to download the firmware.
My Question is that do PDA and CSC change for each new version of android released or am i supposed to wait for the firmware with the same PDA and CSC as the version i was using.
Also I wanted to know if I could flash firmware of different region on the phone without it having any errors
Thank you.

u can flash any stock rom ...

The only small issue you might face if you flash stock firmware for a different region is you may not be able to get OTA updates for your region when they're released. But it's easy enough to flash them via Odin so this isn't a massive problem.

[Q] From custom to stock firmware for OTAs

Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on the three network. If I flash the H3G 2.3.3 firmware to the device using Odin will the OTAs still work? If not is there a way to flash the standard firmware back and have the updates working as normal?
Thanks
If you flash stock firmware for your region, you should be able to get updates OTA again. In saying that, I've seen more than a few cases where this hasn't been the case (Why ? No idea. Never happened to me/not important to me as I don't use stock firmware so I've never delved into the why).
So you can flash stock firmware, see if you can get OTA updates.
If not, might as well take the easy course & flash your stock firmware updates via Odin (like many people) rather than spend potentially who knows how much time trying to find out why OTA won't work in spite of you going back to stock
It works for kies and OTA
I downloaded the original 2.3.3 and flashed it to my Samsung Galaxy S2 and the OTA updates worked up to firmware 2.3.5 and then I plugged into kies and it updated to 4.0.3. I used this site http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=-1#modelsa
Thanks for the help guys.

AT&T unlocked SG3 - Stock firmware

How can I download the latest stock firmware if I buy the AT&T unlocked version and use it in another country? also would I be able to use a custom firmware on it?
You probably can't use any of the custom firmware currently out for International version, the CPU/RAM configuration is different. But you could probably still update the stock firmware using Kies.
Thanks, yea I guess I will be waiting for other developers to tinker with the AT&T firmware and I have to learn how to apply it as I have never used Android before

HELP Updating GT-i9300

I am currently sitting at build number I9300ZSALG3, just wondering if anyone could help me out doing an OTA update or via Kies or if this is the latest version. My baseband version is I9300XXLG3

Your firmware is from Taiwan..and for it the latest version is what you are currently using..however you dont need to wait for updates you can download firmware for United Kingdom the latest is I9300XXBLG8..you can download it from here..
http://samsung-updates.com/get/58/Samsung_Firmware_GT-I9300_BTU_I9300XXBLG8_Android_4_0_4.html
then flash it via odin...search these threads for the method to do so..
Hi man, Unlike iphone, offical rom is always the worst one.It usually uses more memory and have bad battery management. You can try another rom such as mike's.
Sent from my lovely GT-I9300,by the way,I'm a Chinese!Glad to communicate with you

Thank you! I am not too familiar with flashing with Android again because it is something new and if anything were to happen I wouldn't know how to fix it since I have been an iPhone user. Is flashing firmware any different from jailbreaking the iPhone? - in terms of being safer. Also, how can I be 100% sure that the UK version will work on my phone as well as keep my unlock.

Flashing the firmware is 100% safe if you follow the steps..it does not root your phone so it is not jailbreaking...so you will also not loose your warranty...
the firmwares are almost the same for every region, samsung being an a***le released different firmwares for different regions with different CSC....
but i am quite sure it will work on you region as you are already using Taiwan firmware in Canada...in any case download the Taiwan specific firmware also..so if anything goes wrong you can revert back...
by the way I am in India using BTU firmware..
Me too...
Along the same lines, I have an I-9300 sgs3 with South Africa firmware (XFE), i9300xxale9, but I'm using it in the United States, on AT&T, and am not able to receive updates thru either Kies or Update menu. I will NOT be traveling outside the US anytime soon. What should I load that would let me receive updates here in the States OTA?

[Q] S3: XXBLG8; Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies

Anyone else facing the same problem on this version? Any solutions ? Just removed the orange imm76d.i9300bvblg2 rom and installed the unbranded latest uk XXBLG8 rom which is now giving this error on kies. Used to work fine on the orange rom. Mobile is unrooted and stock rom is flashed.
I think that the leaks can't be upgraded by kies. you should install the latest JB rom using odin
I know the leaks can't be upgraded. I meant the official updates.
sorry, i thought it was LI8 (the last leak before poland official JB)
to upgrade, you would need to have the poland CSC, it can be changed *#272*your_IMEI#
then you have to select the poland CSC:XEO
first BACKUP in the external SD because doing this you would lose everything in the internal SD (including tithanium backups)
sorry for my english
Please read my post. Im not looking to go to JB as there is no UK version and its not fully stable. I have the latest XXBLG8 uk version and was looking at the official updates for this version. Thanks
you can not get official update because your product code does not maches your rom.
You have to stick with ODIN or Use orignal orange rom.

It was due to the csc being KOR. Once i changed this to BTU the problem was resolved. Even though the rom was a BTU rom in the first place. Thanks for your help anyway.

Hong Kong SGS II Firmware Update?

Hi Guys
I have a SGSII, which I got in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. It came pre-installed with Stock Samsung Firmware ICS 4.0.3. I currently living in the UK and was wondering if I did a Firmware update using Kites, would it install you UK version of the firmware instead of the HK version?
If it's got the HK firmware/CSC on it, it will update to the latest for that region; where you are now is irrelevant, it reads the CSC info off the phone to determine what firmware to upgrade to, assuming there is a later firmware for that region.
But it's a moot point. Why would you use Kies for anything ? Flash whatever stock rom for whatever region you want with Odin.

To be honest, I am a noobie when it comes to the advanced aspects of android devices. So I've always followed the mantra of always following the manufacturer's instructions to the letter. Also I don't want to loose all my user data for my game of Asphalt g
