Boot animation Black Screen problem - Optimus One, P500, V General

I am using Hephappy's CM9 ROM.I have had no boot animation since i flashed this ROM. I tried almost everything I could to get the bootanimation back. I tried to download them separately and put them in /data/local;/system/media, I used rom toolbox to install it, tried to change the desc.txt, changed file permissions, but still there is no bootanimation. And also I renamed them to bootanimation.zip; pls. give me a solution to this problem

Do you reflashed the ROM?

Are you using cm9 REDPILL? Because i think hephappy removed the bootanim from it. Check the rom zip if it have bootanimation.zip
Anyway i am attaching bootanimation.zip from cm9 upstream.
Copy this bootanimation.zip as it is to system/media/
No need to set permissions or anything.

There is no problem with bootanimation on hephappy's ROMs. Just stick it to /data/local/bootanimation.zip:
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
To test, run
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
instead of rebooting. No bootanimation? You have a broken ZIP, try another bootanimation.

Are you sure it goes to /data/local/bootanimation.zip ?
I saw it in some other threads too so i checked on my phone and i don't have that file /data/local/ but i have it in /system/media/ and it works for me.
So, i thought that purpose of having it in /data/local/ was to save space in system and you would have to config some extra things.
Maybe i was wrong?

But I have tried several zips-renamed them to bootanimation.zip and have put them in data/local and system/media both but still no animation, I have also tries to put them separately- once in system/media and if that doesn't work, in data/local

[Q] Custom bootanimation not working

I have pushed a custom bootanimation.zip (Android Scribbler one) to both /data/local and /system/media, but the animation of the boot that I'm getting is still HTC's default.
Can somebody tell me what I did wrong? Or is it just not possible to change the bootanimation for the stock Wildfire ROM?
I have attached the custom bootanimation that I'm trying to use if that helps to identify the problem.
Thanks in advance.
unless you root your wildfire, im pretty sure your very limited to what you can do, unless it is in the form of an app, and even then i dont think bootscreens are possible on the stock rom!!!
I got it working. Apparently the real bootanimation.zip that you need to replace is stored in system/customize/resource
how did you replace the original bootanimation.zip ? i'm trying to replace it using AndExplorer and it won't let me ... my device is rooted with unrevoked ...

use adb and push the bootanimation.zip (which must be in the tools folder which is inside your android-sdk folder) to /system/customize/resource, /data/local, /system/media, i think you only need to push it to the first one, but i did all 3 just in case

I got it to work. Either use bootanimation.zip and push it via adb or go into recovery and use my update.zip.
Update.zip also removes the bootsound

PS: works on stock rom, tested it on my wildfire
PPS: pushing with adb works only when phone is in recovery mode (=rw access on \system)

Nope, the update.zip does not work for me. I tried replacing it with the root explorer but all it does is reset the phone after I'm done copying it. I use WilpuzzleROM 0.7 and the boot animation is in 2 locations; /system/customize/resource and /data/local. Whether i push the zip file via adb to /system/customize/resource or use the update.zip it does not matter, the boot animation is still the same. It looks like the one from /data/local overwrites the one in /system/customize/resource. It worked only after i issued the command adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local.

Ok, for custom roms like yours, you have to find the correct location. otherwise my update.zip works for "standard" location.

Hello,
It can't change the original cyanogen bootanimation
I have HTC wildfire with Cyanogen7 (2.3.7)
I reboot it with recovery and install update.zip (from mcpat), and initially copied to sdcard.
no changes
sincerely,
For cm7 put animation zip in data/local change permissions of zip to read write reboot and enjoy hope this helps.

If it's just the bootanimation.zip you can't flash it. You need to copy it to your sdcard, then using root explorer or another file manager move it to /system/media.
Backup the bootanimation.zip which is already in there. I usually just rename to bootanimation_original.zip or something like that.

Heh, adding bootanim support to my kernel was something I was thinking of this weekend.
It needs initramfs hacks - check the commits for my I777 initramfs.

I'm confused... I checked out your commits. It seems like essentially, what I did in my 2nd senario up there should have worked with a "bootanimation.zip". You pulled the switcharoo in initramfs and I pulled it at the file location. You off loaded execution to a shell script and I executed from the call in the initramfs.
Is there a difference in offloading to the shell script verses directly calling from init.rc?
Is there some reason I can't just make up an arbitrary name for a service? Like: I can't just call it "serviceA" and point at some daemon; in init.rc?
It seem like as long as you retain the service name "samsungani" you can point it anywhere you want? So like, the service names are set in stone?
Your solution is definitely more elegant, I think I would have gotten there if I could have just gotten a custom boot animation to load..
Thank you for the reply by the way.

Custom Boot Animations!
I'm only posting 1 for now but will post more as I have time
Need to have CMW
Method # 1
1. Download, Animod.zip and one of the animations and put them on you sdcard.
2. Use CMW to install Animod.zip and then animation. ( no need to reboot and you only need to install Animod.zip once.
3. Reboot.
Method # 2
1. Download Animod.zip and install using CMW.
2. Search the web and find a "bootanimation.zip" that you like and download.
3. Rename file "sanim.zip".
4. Connect your player and adb shell.
5. mount -o remount,rw /system
6. exit
7. push sanim.zip /system/media
8 adb reboot.
Let me know how it goes...

Thank you Meticulus for finding out how to use custom boot animations!
I have a Galaxy Player 4.0, so I couldn't use your CWM because it is not formatted as ext4. But here's how I did it:
1. Change /system/bin/samsungani to /system/bin/samsungani.met
2. Change /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
3. Drag sanim.zip to /system/media and reboot.
It works perfectly!
wow !!! Gotta try
thanks for your hard work
I really want to change my boot animation but I search everywhere it's said SAMSUNG use another method to change boot animation.
but if this work
I must be happy

but when I try following advice from klin1344
1. Change /system/bin/samsungani to /system/bin/samsungani.met

3. Drag sanim.zip to /system/media and reboot.

The bootanimation binary in Samsungs points to sanim.zip and not bootanimation.zip - I kanged a binary from CM7.
A CM7 GalaxyS binary should work on this device.

No need to install Animod for method 3. animod. does steps 1 and 2 in method 3.
RFS version is tested and working now.
This method also works on an international GP 5.0 with some tiny modification to the flashable zip.
The mount command in the updater-script is not compatible with YP-G70, but it works after I changed that to
Code:
run_program("/sbin/mount", "/system");

[Q] Changing Boot Animation

Whe I change the boot animation in the rom's .zip do I then reflash the rom?
And if so do I do a wipe or just reflash without any wipe.
Thanks
you can just make a zip with the bootanimation and then flash that only.. no need to reflash the rom
Any time I have tried to just flash the zip with the boot animation it didn't take and the animation for the rom I am running (CleanRom) is still present.

Did you make sure that the bootanimation.zip in located in the in the same directory in the flashable zip as it is in the rom. For example, alot of roms the boot animation is located in system/media, therefore it would need to be in the same directory in the flashable zip. you can also just use a file manager like root explorer or es file explorer and just swap out the animations.
It seems like swapping them out is a tad easier

[Q] bootanimation file

as per the instruction to change the bootanimation I went to system/media on root browser but there is no bootanimation.zip instead there are qmg files like bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.qmg, chargingwarning.qmg and so on. Hope some dev can help me.
Read the boot animation thread again .
Instructions tell you to put a bootanimation zip in the location its not the standard qmg boot files .
i have gone through the instructions on that forum... they asked to rename(backup) the existing bootanimation.zip file and paste the new one, set permission and reboot. But there is no bootanimation.zip file only.

Dont know about that i have a old boot animation working just fine on numerous 4.3 roms .
Enable custom boot animation zip when a boot animation zip does not work out of the box or i have not changed it in the rom base .
Would your own basic NA5 rom have that included binary ??

My NA5 doesn't have that, I self-compiled it from CM sources and put in ArchiDroid 1.X. For me, this zip didn't work (caused black screen only) on stock ROM, however it worked on some custom kernels.
