Why 2 Galaxy Note Forums? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

i just got my Galaxy Note and i wanna put a custom rom on it, and XDA has 2 Galaxt Note Forums, why? and sorry for my noobness.

Questions go in the question section.
And to answer your question.
One is the international note.
One is the att i717 note.
Thy have completly differrnt hardware.
No the roms and mods are not compatible with eachother

And the I717 covers more than just AT&T...
It's all north American carriers that offer the device, with a designation later for the carrier.
Example, the Canadian carrier Rogers, is called I717-R
But the hardware is the same on all I717 models.
The international has a completely different cpu and cell antenna.
The north American version is literally an overgrown sgs2 skyrocket

Just to add....
AT&T Note

If note forum heading can be more specific about carrier names like
At&T, Rogers , Bell, Telus Galaxy Note LTE i717
Can be much easier and clear for new customers.
Saving themselves from soft bricking their device by mistaking it with International Note Roms.

i hate the fact this forum is labled as "ATT NOTE"
the i717 was out in canada before it hit att, and there are 4 varients of the i717,
who can tell the people that make forum sections are AMERICAN !
and the 2 dev thread would be good on a high flowing development section forum section such as the gnex. but in our section is completely useless. nothing more then that either.

Yes North American galaxy note or galaxy note lte or even branded by its processor would be accurate but I figure the I717 part directs everyone in the proper place. I vote for Galaxy note I717 *

well i can totally agree with having diff development forums
but most stuff in the general forum can apply to ATT, as well definately the international accessories forum, where just about ALL accessories will work on both, and the app thread, not sure what app only works on the international that doesnt work on the ATT one
i commonly go thru the international general, help, and accesoories forums, but a LOT of that stuff still applies to our ATT note

It will work. This phone is like Samsung Galaxy S2 on Telus Mobility Canada, which works on T-Mobile USA AWS Band. Another option is to buy Rogers/AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note LTE and flash it with T-Mobile SG2 modem bin.
Rogers SG2 LTE works on T-Mobile USA once you flash the modem. Modem on these chips support LTE & HSPA. If LTE 1700 band is supported then 1700 band on HSPA is also supported. It is a single chip, so they can't enable 1700 LTE band and then disable 1700 HSPA+.
Is it possible to buy just the phone and have it shipped to the US?

The way unlocking works with this Canadian carrier is that you pay upfront and after 30 days (if you are new customer) they will send you the unlock code for $50.
I don't think they will ship it to US. Wait until Feb 14 2012 or Feb 17 2012(Bell sales person told me they will have it on Feb 17 at the store) to see if they allow shipping it to US when ordering online.
If AT&T don't sell phone outright, buy it from Rogers. I know Rogers will ship the phone to US/Canada if it is a Business line.

Seems i can get a connection to wind as well, tried my data sim from my huawei stick in the note, and connected to 4bars to wind..but in debug basic it showed gprs connection lol. So with some modem flashes, we should be able to enable it. I believe there is a thread with a bounty on it here as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400816&highlight=1700+wcdma here is the bounty thread, i d watch that.
Modem flash will only work with LTE Version of Samsung Galaxy Note as is the case with Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE Rogers (has 700/1700 LTE, if you do modem flash on this with T-Mobile USA, you will get HSPA+ 42 and no LTE support). Not on the international version of Samsung Galaxy Note. LTE Version of Samsung is PENTA Band.

OK OK . I'm sure if I searched I'd find exact answer but from quick looking I did I see exynos international note and an lte s3 note.
It seems people are trying both to get T-Mobile 4g to work.
Would the exynos be 21mbps hspa
+ if succeded and the lte be T-Mobile 42mbps hspa+?
What are the chances would you guys think of this happening?
I read something about skyrocket doing the same you guys are attempting on lte note.
Sorry if this was easy to find but my gf has developed a hatred for me on phone cause all I do is read forums so I gotta chill it out tonight..

Taking note back... What a shame...

I finally got the note... The phone is awesome... This is the phone of all phones.... The only thing i dislike is the data service AT&T offers my area... The service kills every thing about this phone is capable of doing.... AT&T doesn't have lte here... But they have the 4g... Which is not consistent enough to even call it 4g.... It picks up 4g and then switches to regular 3g... I won't pay AT&T an extra 20 bucks a month for this service... After half a day with this service, the note will be returned to AT&T and hope Verizon gets it very soon...
For the mean time galaxy SII on the Sprint network will do very well...

Don't take it back. Wait until after your first month and then go to the AT&T store and tell them you want to buy your contract out ($324). Now unlock your Note and use it on any carrier! This is what I am doing. Got my Note for half price ($149) and next month am buying out my contract and using the note on Straight Talk!
$324 + $149 = $473
Have fun with Verizon's 1.5Mbps "3G" network versus AT&T's 7-14Mbps FauxG network.
My company-use Vivid regularly sees 5-7Mbps in my town. My buddy's work Droid RAZR MAXX? 1.3-1.7Mbps.
Have fun with Straight Talk, too. 3.2Mbps max download and pray to all the Gods in the universe that you never have an issue that requires you to call in to customer care.

Sorry to hear. It is a great phone but it would suck if the network is not cutting it where you live. A poor network would take away a lot of the GNote's potential in my view. Hope you get it on another network in the future.

Hey the Note is awesome. Wireless networks fast or slow are amazing, considering what you can do on them. Remember the Zach Morris bricks we use to carry? Besides at&t has 40 or so million smartphone users and over 100 million total data users. It's amazing that the network is as reliable as it is. I would love to know why that is too. After the iPhone made its way to Verizon, I thought at&t would have been in a really tough spot.
I stick with att because I have multiple phones and love the ease of switching between them with just a Sim card (GSM) . Also I like having the option of using unlocked international phones that ATT does not offer.

AT&T is great when you're in an area that doesn't offer LTE. Their HSPA+ puts Verizons 3G to shame. Only reason I don't have T-Mobile is because I didn't get great reception at home. Swapping phones at will is nice as well.
I am using my note on tmobile and I'm getting great speeds on it. Throughout he day I usually get 6-10mbs download speeds. Sometimes I peak at 12mbs. The upload isn't great. I usually got 1-3mbs on my t989 but only around 100-500kb on the note. No biggie. Still fast for me. Only problem is it hangs occasionally and I have to toggle it on and off to get it working. I'm looking for a workaround for that.

I am debating returning my note and getting a tmobile one. I just wanted some advice first. Do you think the modem from the tmo version would help us i717 users on tmobile?
That's what im wondering. Did samsung just patch the radio or did they just add a new modem to support the band. I have no idea how these things work, but im hoping its a radio fix that we can just steal.
this will equal cross compatible roms most likely... like the skyrocket and tmobile galaxy sII

Yeah probably. I'm wondering about the modem though
The best thing about this is that maybe they will release the source with the phone so we can have some 4.0 modded goodness.

Question/suggestion for you T-Mobile users. Friend of mine used the radio modems from our note on his skyrocket and said it improved his data speeds. So I suggest* that possibly you guys can take the modems from T-Mobile galaxy s II and try them on the note.
* just a suggestion/idea not sure if anyone tried this yet.

Since tmo doesn't have lte does that mean itll use the exynos processor the international one has?

I don't have any proof, but I bet it will use the same S3 processor as the AT&T version.

Excellent! Now to sell my AT&T Note on CL, pay the early termination fee and use the surplus to buy the T-mobile version of the Note
Sgs3
SG3 would be cool CharlieB but i, like most, bought the Note for the 5.3 screen and S-pen. The SG3 wont change that. Although im sure the specs will be awesome.

Agreed... I also hate the button config of the AT&T config

Sadly Scyke, i think you're right.
They're probably just keeping the AT&T version and just adding the T-Mobile logo rather than the AT&T one...

Pretty much. And removing the lte
If I was t-mobile, I would use a portion of that 4 billion from the failed merger and bribe Samsung to cram in a Tegra 3 or S4 in the T-mobile version of the Note

The Note 2 or the Note S will have a similar if not one of those processors.

Best unlocked Samsung Galaxy series phone

Okay gang, I need your help. I'm new to the android landscape (note was my first android device) and was asked by a good friend of mine to find her a phone.
She's looking for a Unlocked Samsung Galaxy series phone that she can use here in the US as well as be able to swap a sim card and use for service in Italy when she visits.
So two questions. What device do you all recommend, and where is the best place to procure it?
Thanks in advance!! I know this is a galaxy note forum, but couldn't think of a better group of folks to field these questions

Agreed. The unlocked Nexus $399.99 is the best choice for now.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note™ - please forgive any typos
Here's a list of frequencies used by country:
http://allworldcellphones.com/gsm-frequencies-list.htm
Italy uses GSM 900 and 1800 frequencies which is supported by the International Note as well as the I717. I didn't see anything about LTE or HSDPA related figures, but I only looked for 3 min and clicked the first link.
My suggestion would be for her to determine what she wants in a phone. Does she want to take notes? does she want a small phone? As long as the phone has the proper frequencies, she would be able to use it in Italy. Most AT&T phones have the capability of running 800 and 1800 as well as many others, but verify by looking at the specs before buying. If she has a US carrier in mind (like AT&T) she can buy one of those subsidized and pay an unlock fee from a site (cheapest I've heard of was $8) and will probably save money.
If she wants to buy a phone outright I'd say look at the galaxy 2 series. From what I hear it's a great phone, a large community here (if she feels the urge to mod it) and can pick a new unlocked one for about 400.
Hope this helps a little.
any international unlocked phone will work. the international gs3 wouldnt be a bad bet. n7000 as well. you just wont have lte. I would not recommend an at&t direct phone because it will not be unlocked. so sim flipping could be an issue in italy.
International Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, or wait for the Galaxy S3 to come out.
