Hulu on Q - Nexus Q General

Hey,
I just tried to make Hulu work on my Nexus Q and I had a wonderful success!
So, if you want it running in your browser, just follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427095
I unzipped the file and copied the content to the /data/flash directory. Be sure to read all the thread cause there is 2 ways to do it, I decided to not flash, since it's just to files to copy. In the end there is also a video to show how to do.
I'm using Firefox with the Phony pluggin to emulate a Desktop Browser, in that case Hulu allow me to watch the video, if you don't change your User Agent it will offer you the Hulu Plus, and all the reason for that is to not have to subscribe...
Have fun!

Cool! Fantastic to know, because I tried the Hulu app downloaded directly from the Play Store onto my Q (not sideloaded) and it didn't work (it crashed on startup screen).
By which I mean, I sideloaded google play, spoofed google play into thinking I was a tablet using the method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784644, and then downloaded Hulu, and it crashes. In my experience, 90%+ of the apps you'd expect to work DO work on the Q (excepting of course the apps that use GPS, gyro, microphone, or some other hardware that obviously doesn't work on Q). However Hulu fails, so this is great info as it provides a way to get it working.

Amazon Video APK working on Nook Tablet!

Here is the Amazon Video APK:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352694
This is really the last piece that the Kindle has over the Nook Tablet... and now that is solved.
Notes
There is some preventative code in the Amazon Video Player that stops it from playing if you are rooted, but just get the "OTA RootKeeper" app from the Google Market (or search the apk) and install that. That lets you temporarily unroot with a single click. Then restore root with another. All right from your device! No need for PC connection. Now you can watch your prime shows without losing root!
There is no menu option to login to your prime account through the app. Some people claim that if you have Amazon MP3 installed and login there, then install the Amazon Video app, it will use the same login info. But if that doesn't work, you can simply click on a prime video, click the buy button, it will take you to a login screen, then login and it should recognize your prime access and let you watch.
Won't save login
Amazon Video apk installs and runs beautifully but I can't sign in. I selected a movie to purchase, was taken to the login screen, entered login info (I'm a Prime member.) but then it kicks me back to the movie screen and starts the cycle all over again. After re-entering my login several times it never gets past the loop. Is there a trick to having it remember the login?
Try and reboot the nook after logging in, worked for me.

Worked!
Worked like a charm and I'm embarrassed that I didn't try this first! Thanks for your reply.
Looks like it doesn't work if you are rooted.
Worked before rooting, no longer working after rooting. I am a sad panda.
The work around is to use OTA RootKeeper, a free app on the Market that will backup your "root files" (I'm guessing su) and restore when you need it.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Unfortunately, I can't test this since I don't yet have the Nook or any other Android tablet. Hope it helps you guys out though!

Thanks! Worked like a champ. Just install, then click 'Temporary Un-Root'. All of my launcher buttons and everything else work just fine.

If I'm already an Amazon Prime member and can access streaming video from the Browser, which I tested, then what does installing this apk do?

It's a better layout, and the video plays faster since it's all native.
Didn't work for me. I think because my NT is now rooted. Got a "cannot open file" when I tried to launch the apk.
about streaming videos...
Can anyone check how these stream on NT:
http://vimeo.com/hd
http://veetle.com/index.php/listing#all/quality/1 (highest playable bitrates?)
Revision3 apk (available at Market) when on "HD" ?
any other online HD streaming video content you know of and able to watch and report/demonstrate?
Thank you
Can NON Prime members at least rent movies? No free streaming right? I have the Amazon player on my NT but afraid to login to my Amazon account because I dont't want to be charged $80 lol

The Vimeo video link played perfectly on my Nook Tab
*Normal* Veetle channels work fine but not HD channels

Prime membership just gives you a subset available to stream for free. It is not a requirement for accessing the video service.

On the page for the video, it shows the different options available to watch (Streaming, Download to PC, Portable Device, etc...). Can you download the portable device version and transfer it to the NT to play in the app?

You shouldn't get that error if you are rooted. It should let you do everything but give you a warning when you try to watch. But see the first post again for notes on how to easily bypass this.
works perfect! Thanks!

I've gotta use this OTA app even if I'm rooted? (which I am)
I installed the ATVAndroidClient apk. In GOLauncher what is the name of the app? I can't seem to find it.

Hmm. I installed the package twice and it's nowhere to be found, even with ES File Explorer.

[Q] Does anyone know if Nook Tablet can view Hulu.com?

So ultimately I'd prefer not to root the nook tablet, but my end goal is to be able to use hulu.com's browser based flash video.
Does anyone know if this method works for the NT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193538&page=4
Is there a better, more simple way, to get around hulu.com seeing the NT as a mobile device? Any web browsers I could just side load and that would be it?
Nope it doesnt work on the tablet just tried on Dolphin HD set to desktop mode instead of android and it tells me its not supported on my platform.
When I first got my smartphone, I bought a subscription to PlayOn.com and downloaded its android app so I could watch shows from Hulu, Netflix, and some other sites if I wanted. When I got my NT, I wondered if the app would work on it too so I copied the files from my phone and sideloaded them onto it. So far it works just fine.
Rooted method works though, if you're willing to go that route. Libflashplayer.so file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15120307&postcount=65 plus easier instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15326553&postcount=89
Then set Opera user agent to desktop. I'm watching hulu on my NT right now.
You can with this $.99 app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.danielhlockard.flashbrowser

That app is listed as not compatible with the NT (Barnes&Noble BNTV250) so it might have to be sideloaded.
Thanks for this suggestion - Do you know if it works as a sideloaded app?
It can be done by buying it on a compatible device (I did it on a HP touchpad with cm7). Then back it up with Titanium Backup, transfer backup files to same folders on NT, and restore using Titanium backup on NT.
The app works pretty well on the NT.
Edit: Oops, just realized Titanium backup requires root also. I did try using ES file explorer, which doesn't require root, but it wouldn't backup that way on my Touchpad.

Its aviable and compatable on amazon app store just search flash browser. This is still $.99 purchase no root required thanks for the tip on the app.
Is this confirmed to be working on the NT? The hacked flash players (from the Nook Color thread/Xoom forum and others) do not work on the NT.
edit: The app that is. I haven't tried messing with the posted libplayer.so replacements, but that's next
Flash Web Browser
I can verify that it does work. I just purchased the app, and it works very well. I'm not going to use it as a default browser, but it's a great browser for streaming flash videos.
Nook Tablet comes with Hulu-plus application and can play movies right out of the box. You don't need to buy or install anything else.
It works also after rooting provided you reject "debloating" option while proceeding with the rooting.
It is not speculations or assumptions but an actual experience.
I'd rather
I don't have a Hulu-Plus subscription... and at $8/mo I'd rather not have a subscription.
Thus the need for a browser that will allow you to browse sites in the same manner as a desktop, including flash.

I second the need for such a browser. So can I purchase the app mentioned above and install it on my NT without rooting? Or do I need to root and install Android Market first?
No need for root
I purchased the app from the amazon app store unrooted, and installed it and it works fine. No need for rooting.
I've noticed a few videos on Youtube that won't run on the browser, but have had no problem with hulu.com.
Can someone post a link for the app? I don't want to root my nook (sounds dirty) I also need help installing. Thanks
Jimmy -
You'll probably get some heckling for not looking around for directions on sideloading apps, but here is a quick review. So I assume if you're asking for help on installation, then you haven't sideloaded ANY apps yet.
If this is the case, you can sideload apps, without rooting, with some simple instructions. The directions I used are found here: http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-t...ok-tablet-amazon-appstore-go-launcher-ex.html Worked on the first time for me, but you do need to have a micro-sdcard.
Once you've installed your first app you can get a few more (you can find some good apps to install here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351951&highlight=side-load). YOU NEED TO INSTALL AMAZON APP MARKET. After that is installed and you have an account, go to this url on your nook tablet and purchase the flash web browser app: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006IHK9PK
You can install it when prompted, and it should work no problem.

I tried this method with the latest adobe flash player 11 with the Libflashplayer.so file from above. And I am still being blocked by hulu. Im guessing that this is because the modified Libflashplayer.so from above is too old. So, how does one go about modifying the ".AND" to "WIN" ?
I get the problem parsing package. Did everything else right
Got a working solution for Hulu.com and flash 11.0 on a rooted nook tablet; it's not the latest version, but at least it works.
Need to be rooted and have some form of Root enabled file manager.
Uninstall flash and remove flash_player from /system/app
Grab the apk from this post (flash111_work.apk):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19123868&postcount=221
Drop it into /system/app and reboot. Done!
Works on mine with hulu.com through Opera mobile and Dolphin HD, watched a few different clips with great performance, plays 480p rather nicely.

[Q] Galaxy i9100 Problem Browser Issue

My wife gave me a White Galaxy S II international version from Amazon.com for Christmas.
I first noticed this with the stock internet browser.
I am having a little problem with the podcasts section on Engadget.com. As soon as the page is near or finishes loading, the browser crashes and I'm returned to the launcher.
If I am quick enough to long press on the .MP3 link to download the podcast it crashes without the save prompt showing up and the download isn't started.
I downloaded Dolphin Browser HD and I get the same results. This is the browser I used on my Inspire 4G with no problems.
This is viewing the desktop version of Engadget.com, also with either Android or Desktop as the user agent.
I don't have trouble loading pages on other sites.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Just tried it myself and it worked fine. Are you trying the "save link" option? You could try "download all files" application from market. I've got it installed because I've had a problem in the past.
DoubleTwist
Try downloading the app doubletwist you don't need to sync it to your computer or use air sync all you need to do them is download the item again
Hope this helps
Not to be rude but I'm looking for a solution, not a workaround.
I could just stream it from the website or the Engadget app, but I want to download the podcast from the page as I'm reading Engadget posts without starting up another app to do something I could do easily on a much simpler and lower quality phone. The building at my work tends to kill wifi and cell signals so I need to download the podcasts to listen to them.
I did have cyanogen installed on my Inspire. I wanted to see if I could use this phone without ROMs.
Thanks anyway.
download all files from market , the stock browser doesnt download all file extensions mate , that could be the reason
dolphin browser is quite useless to download files...the best one to download files are the opera mobile. i used that to download basically everything....try it...

Like I said "download all files"
Just install it then use the stock browser to download the pod cast
The stock browser and dolphin can download mp3s from other sites. My Inspire 4G running cyanogen could do it, too.
Apparently there is some code on the Engadget page that my phone doesn't like.
The browser crashes as soon as the page either finishes loading or right before it finishes. It had nothing to do with downloads.
Edit: I installed Opera Mobile as recommended above by kruznix and the page loads properly.
I'm still curious if anyone knows why this is happening.

[Q] B&N or Android - How are rooted NTs being used?

Curious to hear from people who have rooted. Are you still going back to B&N screen and using it as it was originally intended (as a reader for B&N content), or, mostly as a modified android device?
I did not register mine before rooting so all B&N functions are disabled or inaccessible. Wondering if it's worth the trouble to reset and reroot and register it.
I use it like an android tablet. There's not a single vestige of B&N left on mine
Luckily, the books I own are from the kindle app store so I didn't have to fumble with getting the B&N reader installed after debloating.
BTW, I'm curious what browser most people are using. I'm using opera mobile.
Use mine in various ways. I use several readers, surf the net, share here, & study my Bible. Browser is Dolphin HD.
Swyped from my rooted BNTV250 using Tapatalk
I was suspecting this but interested to hear from more people. Did you end up deleting your B&N icons too? Set the browser to default to Dolphin (or whatever you've chosen?)
BTW - Dolphin browser
Rooted and still have all the B&N stuff. I use the reader and purchase books, as well as borrow from the library. Also use it as a tablet with corporate e-mail, calendar and contacts. All the apps from my phone that work.
Bill
Is it really necessary to keep all the B&N stuff? Can't you use any of the android market readers to read books and mags? I was not a big customer of B&N before getting the NT and don't imagine I'll be buying a bunch of stuff. I would, however, like to be able to download free books, library books and maybe a magazine subscription or two.

I left all the B&N stuff on there for now, not that I use it. My device is registered to me though. This will probably all change once we get a good ICS or MIUI port (I love MIUI on my Nook Color).
100% of my books are through Amazon, but I never rule out the possibility of wanting something from B&N.
I'm using the now defunct Miren Browser. Dolphin HD is right there in features / awesomeness. I posted the Miren APK in the "Must Have Apps" in case anyone wants it.
Merrell
I use it as an Android tablet. However, I do use B&N software for reading books and I regularly make purchases from the B&N store.
Swyped from my Captivate.
Rooted w/snowball and total debloat. Have no interest in B&N proprietorial software. Bought the NT based on the hardware specs vs price. Am just waiting for a good ROM!!
I like buying books from B&N the (0.00 cost ones ..I prefer the B&N reader so i've kept all the actual apps from B&N. otherwise, I use it as a tablet for games, facebook, twitter, etc. I get most of my epubs from sources other than B&N and can still read them using the B&N reader. I also use it for the Galaxy Tarot app, and surfing the net. Its pretty much left my G2 to being just a phone/txt msg's and to wifi tether my nook to for data. I also enjoy following/applying the hacks and root/dev stuff that comes out. I really love that its virtually unbrickable, currently, so i can screw it up and its easy to factory reset and start over, which i've not heard of in other devices(not saying they don't exist, just that i've not heard of any like that). Also, as a christmas gift, you can't beat it...lol
I prefer the B&N Reader to the others I've tried. As mentioned previously it allows me to use EPUBs that I have, so it works perfectly. Other than that, I am using it as a normal android tablet for gaming and internet with Dolphin HD for my browser.
I am rooted and have access to B & N apps on my NT, but I screwed up and deleted the device manager2.3.4, so i cant buy anything from B&N. I may have to start from the beginning....Sigh
I use the Reader app and pandora from B&N but beyond that I use it mainly for watching videos, web broswing with Dolphin HD but the only gripe I have is that I cant block ads so all the flash based ones kick in when I try to watch any flash based videos and it tends to slow down the tablet a little when there are multiple flash elements on a single page with my videos. I use slacker, pandora, google music, and audiogalaxy for music the first 2 for listening to songs I dont have and the second 2 for the songs I do have. I use Mx video player for videos and have Skifta set up so that I can stream my video collection from my PC to my nook tablet makes it a lot easier so that I dont have to carry around large video files on either my small 2 gig sd card or the nook tablet itself I just stream the videos from the dlna server from my pc to the tab using Skifta. I have a bunch pf the go apps installed including the go keyboard with the go pad plugin that lets me set how big the keyboard is in both landscape and portiate mode.
All android for me. I have no need for bn other than a place to take it to for replacement it if dies before my 2 year warranty is up. I am slowly learning how to set things up, it is the process of learning that has been so fun for me.
I've still got all the B&N stuff but I seldom if ever go there. I normally stay on the rooted side now, mainly watching porn and such........Did I say that? I meant mainly watching educational videos and such.
All Android here, no BN left. However, I still get my paid books from BN, and simply load them onto my computer first.
Love Dolphin browser.
books and videos until ice cream sandwich comes out
sometimes games but thats it
What I do with my Nook
Rooted, left most of the B&N stuff on, though I got rid of Hulu. I use Kindle and Overdrive for all my reading enjoyment (mostly free stuff). I browse (Dolphin), Facebook, Linkedin, DirecTV (for occasional scheduling), Moboplayer for videos, and PowerAmp for music. Oh, and netflix. I have some other newsy stuff like currents and the "News and Weather" app.
Otherwise, its a cool toy. Lots of one-time app usage. Easier to use on the subway than my iPad.
Will likely flash with new ROM once that hits.
Also use Evernote.
I left my B&N stuff on there for times when I'm using it as an e reader. I also like the ability to download from the marketplace and use it as a regular tablet though.

TNT Shows in stock browser or App

Forgive me if this question has already been asked...ran a search of the forums and found nothing so...
Does anyone know why with a rooted NT (not running another ROM yet) I can not watch programs online through TNT website as well as TNT Android app available on Google Play? The browser will go to the site but fails to load any full episodes. I side loaded the app hoping it would work even though play store said it would not...hoping if I fiddled with changing my screen resolution it would work (using LCD app). In the TNT app it plays the ad before the program just fine, then plays about 8 seconds of the actual episode before I get a message saying my device is not compatible. I checked permissions and the only thing I can see that might be causing this is the setting for the display in the .xml file.
Anyone know what to do? I like watching Falling Skies episodes but can't on my NT. Oddly, I am running an old version if the HBOgo app without any problems. Perhaps the TNT app requires Ice Cream Sandwich? No specs to say on app page or webpage.
Any help would be appreciated!
