HTC ChaCha - Increase internal memory - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there. I've got a new HTC ChaCha, the only problem is that its internal memory is 150 MB.
This sucks. I've not been able to find a way to do it as stuff that are compatible with it are really few. I'm really new to Android. I've got the phone for only 2 days. It's true that I adore it, but that memory problem really sucks.
I've seen that there's a way to do so through rooting. Is this the only way to do so? And if that's true, then how?
My carrier is Vodafone by the way. It's unlocked but not rooted.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The telnet thing didn't work. I'm trying z4root now but it's just stuck at "Running exploit in order to obtain root access...". The rotating thing is really buggy.

Find the HTC ChaCha section in the forums, since this is a HTC phone the bootloader has been locked down.
So if you want root you must unlock this bootloader

More information:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Software Version: 1.57.415.4
EDIT: @Frank, Yea I saw that. Someone told me that if it's SIM Unlocked I can download any RUU. I don't know which one to download.
Shall a mod move the topic please to the HTC section then?

A friend helped me with this ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449681 ) topic and I successfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. Superuser though says No apps on superuser list. BusyBox doesn't successfully install when I press the install button at the app (not the market), and Titanium Backup doesn't start. I tried using a terminal with su, su is not found.

Now I'm stuck with recovery. I do that fastboot thing, then go to bootloader menu, choose recovery, and I'm stuck forever at the HTC logo...

I've unlocked the bootloader and tried to root it. I've had a problem though as it's S-ON although any SIM works with it. I don't know how to resolve this...

New root method!

Christ has risen!
To all of you that are tired of the long, not so simple way to root your Optimus One, I just came across this. Although it says it's for gingerbread, it worked for me. I'm using original 2.2.1 firmware.
Hope you're gonna find this useful!
hi cristi_bostan2005,
thanks for the information. I have tried and it also work with Android Version 2.2.2, software version v10f-FEB-24-2011
Does this mean no need of downgrading any more to install custom roms? Also is it safe to use it on our phone?
this is great news, though I'm still on v10b
where is detail i m not able to see it
thanks for this i rooted my phone using this was running froyo 2.2.2 with out the requirement of downgrade was able to root the phone successfully
? I am not seeing any info regarding app...what is the method?
For those that didn't see the link, here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
It's an app, similar to z4root that can root your phone, without you needing to downgrade as before. It's very simple.
Follow the link, download the latest apk to your phone, install it, run it and that's it!

How many minutes did it take to root the phone? Mine is taking forever... :-S
not very long... about 30 seconds to 1 minute i think ??
Going to reboot and try again then.
but:
Some important things to know:
- You must have USB debugging enabled on your device
- You need to have an SD card (formatted and) inserted
- The APK must be install to device, NOT SD card
- The exploit may take a while to run, but not more than 10 minutes, if it does, get me a logcat, and reboot the device
- Always reboot between root attempts!
- While (temporary?) root access may be attained, due to locked bootloaders, efuses, S-ON, and whatnot this may still not work on your device
- The GingerBreak exploit should not be used to attain temproot and continue using the device. It fscks vold, you do not want to be running like that. You want to reboot! So if the root doesn't stick, you (still) have a problem.
Nope, it wasn't running properly, I waited more than 10 minutes.
I've rebooted and tried to run it again and this time it rooted the phone in less than 30 seconds. It was something that was amiss I guess.
Rooted in few minutes on V10E (2.2.2) Italian No Brand.
is it permanent root? i'm wondering if the phone can still be Unrooted after using this app? sorry for the noob question.

Android phone with no bootloader?

Just looking for some clarification...I got a samsung transform ultra, and rooted using the one-click method at androidforums. I have been frequenting androidforums since xda doesn't have a section for my phone. After a conversation with a friend I wanted to make sure my phone was "s-off" and not just partial root, but could not find bootloader to check...so I asked on androidforums at the rooting thread and I was told our phone doesn't HAVE a bootloader...I guess I don't understand this concept of no bootloader, is that right? Or possible? I just thought an android phone had to have that, how does it operate without a bootloader? How do I use fastboot without it? Someone please clarify! I'm having trouble understanding this concept, I guess...I've been with android since the G1 and every android phone I've ever had since then has had a bootloader...does my phone really not need or have a bootloader? Can I still do everything the same? I mean it looks that way, I have clockworkmod installed and I can flash roms and all that, but that's something I thought all androids had to have...is it because this is a CDMA device? Cus all I've ever had was tmobile GSM/HSPA+ devices, and this is my first CDMA device, I dunno if that has anything to do with anything...if someone could help me understand this it'd be great...

F-in' THANK YOU! I knew I wasn't crazy...that's what I thought, too. Man, I wish xda would put up a forum for my device, cus there are only two devs at androidforums and the rest are all noobs...like ubernoobs, the kind that will try to tell you an android phone doesn't have a bootloader..., and its DEAD all the damn time...I don't even think the forum for this device is more than two pages of threads...its a friggin ghost town...damn I miss xda!

same problem here.. no bootloader after formatting.. but there is custom recovery and i can flash roms... i hope anyone help me to reinstall hboot... my device is htc 816g dual
Your bootloader is just probably unaccessable or requires another way of accesing it that you dont know as of rn and might be hidden. There is no way you guys dont have a bootloader.
my devices also after rooting shows a plain white screen instead of bootloader. thought that twrp would do the work.. but then i found out any method to install twrp requires bootloader. there was only one hope that twrp could be installed in rooted devices without need of bootloader. but i removed my root by an unroot application.. now i am trapped

Try from the SuperSU app, you might be able to do so.

Your phone can't be registered as "rooted" by using the HTCDev unlock. All it can do is record that your Serial Number requested an Unlock code. They can't confirm you actually used it without looking at your device.
Besides that, you can be rooted without using the unlock, if that's all you want to do. However if you want to install a custom recovery (and subsequently custom ROMs, kernels, splash screens or radios), you will need to unlock your bootloader with HTCDev.
Thanks! when will that change?? Will we ever have a work around??

Difficult to say. It's possible that devs are working on S-OFF, but it's not really necessary for this device. Sprint will service rooted phones, as long as the issue is hardware related.
I have no idea how I lost root?? I just went to use TB and realized I did not have root.. So I had to redo the process. Like I said it's the first time I have evt had it happen on any device... But this is my first HTC so I'm still getting used to it.

Does this mean we will be able to flash custom ROMs on here? Or does that require the unlocked bootloader?
If you can flash custom ROMs, what exactly does an unlocked bootloader provide that root doesn't?
Sorry I'm just a newbie about to pick a Android phone (don't have a smart phone), and just trying to make an informed decision.
No, root by itself doesn't enable custom roms. You might get jumped on for your question because a noobproof search would tell you that customer roms need a custom recovery, and that requires an unlocked bootloader.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader for custom roms in all cases . My xperia x10 got some custom roms before the bootloader was unlocked.

The installed SuperSU app wouldn't run, but after I updated it from Play it opens fine.
Yes, it worked great. Love the non english bat file. Keeps you guessing.
Just an update on this.. I restarted the phone after root and it no longer boots. It shows the LG logo and says security error under it and then just shuts off.
Grrr..

Root won't do that by itself. Did you debloat/uninstall some apps? There was a report in the general OG forums that if you uninstall any of the Google apps it will trigger the LG security lockout. Freezing them works Ok, though.

You can do the restore probably, with LGNPST. Look in Dev under stock firmware.
