s2 getting heated a bit while playing games is a known issue ma8.
u can try a different kernel and see the same heating issue gets reduced, though not complete but to considerable extent.

If ur kernel suport governour seting , try to use set cpu and use ondemand gavernor to playing game

changing rom to 7comp lemme see if i am facing the same issue
i am aware of heating of phone while gaming but then on stock roms the heat goes down when sames are switched off
but here the heating is on till the time the battery does not go to 0%
have set cpu ondemand lemme see if it works
thanks..... will comeback

I've played GTA3 on these settings:
CPU: 1600-1600 MHz, performance, I/O vr, dual-core mode
GPU: 100-200-400 MHz, 900-1000-1100 mV
+ charging battery
= max batt temp.: 52°C & no reboots
Just try to combine settings

Dont forget to use sio on i/0
No need to say thanks just press it

Known issue, Use different kernels and optimize the setting for yourself.

Phone too hot to touch after 5 minutes of gaming.

Hi all, running lite'ning rom 1.4 and just played order and chaos for 5 minutes and the phone became too hot to touch! Surely this shouldn't be right, i mean what the hell! Anyone else have this?

Actually yes, many people have this. It's the CPU overheating.Beware,it doesn't get hotter than other CPUs on the market, but heat disipation on the GS2 is minimal as the phone is so thin.
The only thing you can try is lowering the CPU clock to 1000Mhz or even 800Mhz when gaming. You can even boost your GPU to 400Mhz up from 267Mhz and don't overheat then. There will also be no performance hit as games run mainly on the GPU and two cores running at 1GHz are more than enough to handle the background.
I havent noticed the phone getting super hot as some people have noted. I do notice that it does get a lot hotter if its plugged in and charging while playing a game. Are you by chance charging while playing? If so, I'd try and play while not charging to see if it gets really hot still.
No this isnt while charging and it literally was 5 minutes of playing! How do I change the cpu and gpu speeds safetly?
it also depends on the game itself, many of them are just poorly programmed
to your question: setcpu is the app.

I dont have an SGS2 yet but your statement has a total flaw, if games mainly use the GPU then there should be zero need to underclock the CPU.

Have you ever seen anything running on the GPU ONLY?What I mean is that the GPU processes the graphics, which are important when playing a game. The CPU takes on other tasks, like opponent's AI(artificial intelligence),background and foreground code running and many other things.Sound maybe? All these things keep the CPU running at 100% for no reason.Lower the clock and voila!
Check first before you try to say I'm wrong next time.I don't usually say bullsh!t with such things.

[Q] Battery drain on night elves kernel

i have 1 big problem ie my cell (neo v) has a huge battery drain problem
i have cm7.2 fxp111 rom with night elves kernel with i/o sheduler to noop, governor to conservative and overclocked to 1.1ghz......
every 10 mins i have a drop of 1%
n my cell cant even survive 15hours
and wen in sleep mode there is 20% drop in 7hrs
want to find possible solution cant find in other threads..........

UC to 700-800Hz for normal use ( Whatsapp and messaging)
UC to 900-1000 for browsing + Music
And go above1Ghz for gaming
Set governor to conservative at ALL times ~ Works for me
And use SET CPU and set profiles
ie when screen off - 700-800Hz
Time 1am-6am 600-700Hz
Etc
I use these settings and i get Around 15hours of heavy usage
AS for the highlighteD and underlined text
Use better battery stats -SEarch XDA
Tottaly your problem is with overclocking...
thank you guys
i did as qwerty123 said
i installd setcpu made profiles n really it helpd me alot by increasing my standby time......
bt i wanna know what shd i put in up threshold n down threshold and other options.......

[Q] Xtreme Heat

Okay so i've Noticed that recently on ics roms that when web browsing or playing games my neo gets really hot. I expected this as it has a lot to process but today whilst web browsing it got so hot that i couldent hold it anymore and it started making a burning smell. (this is without overclock min: 242 Max: 1024) i super quickly took out the battery and left it outside for a bit and it seems okay now but i was woundering why it keeps getting so hot on ics roms, as i dosent over heat on gingbread even with over clock!
Is it to do with Hardware Acceleration?
Same issue here although it never reached the burning smell! . Does any1 know the reason?
Sent from my MT15i using XDA
Burning smell is not a good sign, suggest you to move back to gingerbread as a precaution mate.
>>Is it to do with Hardware Acceleration?
can be,without debugging much cannot be told I guess.

Glad it's not just me then, Yeah the burning smell was after a few hours of browsing and playing fruit ninja.
me too annoying when your in the middle of somthing then your neo heats like theres no tommorrow =.=
I tried turning off "force gpu rendering" but still same heat ??? im very confuzzled.
same here, and i did a quick remove and back to .62
Neo gets Really Hot when playing games and surfing internet
The heat is too much that My hand can't stand it :'(
this is very unpleasant and really annoying.
Each time I play a game I have to take of the cover and its kinda help somehow but still it gets too much hotter.
most of the time its temperature raise more than 40 C*
any solution for this problem?
After 40-50 minutes in Modern Combat 3 multiplayer,my phone was very hot,but i think its normal, other games, programs make the phone only a little hot....
You mentioned "overclocking" ... and that's the most likely cause of overheating right there ... in your place i'd try to set the clocks back to factory defaults and use the phone then, i'm using Neo MT15i(currently with Cyanogen mod 7.2.0 RC1) and never had overheating issues

I get the same heat with underclocking @800mhz
and i dont get heat on gingerbread, only ics. in fact i overclock without heat on stock gingerbread using nightelf kernel.
Have the same problem with ka09 + pwa ics kernel 1.0 .Neo is abnormally hot compared to cm7.2 109 + nightelf lite 3.3.Could it be because the rom as a whole s still in beta stage ? And to clarify im not using oc just stock speeds.

This seems too big and too common of a problem for sony to leave. im sure it wont be happening in final ics release.
I hope that its only a nasty bug in the beta rom .The strange thing is that not many have noticed it so im wondering if it apperas only to some devices. Btw the ics roms cant be compared with the gb ones .Its like the day and night
Heating of smartphone is normal, especially when you oc your cpu...
When I'm playing eg. mc3, 9mm or gta3 with [email protected],4GHz after tens of minutes my phone is warm, but not really hot.

Yes i know but the thing is even with the oc 1.4 on cm7.2 rom it doesnt heat as much as the 1024mhz on ics.Anyway i hope its fixed inthe final version .
playing heavy games will no doubt heat ur phone...i think it is the beta rom bug...also...i have noticed that when i browse internet in 3G mode...the phone really heats up if it is not receiving good signal strength...mine heats up even on stock rom without OC.
i got heat on gb rom too ( @1024mhz max) playing nova 2 D:

SOLVED
SOLVED: (i think)
been doing some research into kernel governors and found out that the current "ondemmad" governor has a really fast ram up to high clock speeds. Whereas governors such as Smartass have a slow ramp up.
I believe this is the cause of our heat problems as when using Night elfs kernel with smartassv2 governor i played 3 hours of games (nova 2, fruit ninja, defender II) and neo got warm but not hot atal.
I also check cpu spy and despite the different governor the both reached speeds above 800Mhz.
SO i guess the fast ramp up in the ondemmand governor cause heat then?
So why not test with governors that have slow ramp up and tell me if heat gone
In gb roms with fxp kernel ,clocked to 1024 with ondemand when playing heavy games like e.warriors the phone get a little warm but cant say too hot.The problem is that in ics rom it gets warm just by having the display on (ondemand,1024 speed). When i will flash again a beta ics i will post that if changing to smartass has an effect in temp.

indication of battery damage and battery life

sometimes battery percentage always stuck at one point for example at 65% or 85% and not moving when charging(phone on) if i restart it and suddenly it goes up to 99% is that from rom or need battery calibrated? or does my battery is damaged?
how long your battery last when playing 3D game or wifi browsing on airplane mode and every radio turned off + brightness on 5%?
already undervolt at minimum in dodova kernel with max speed at 1.2 ghz but the phone still get warm when playing 3D game near the camera,if i underclock it at 1ghz or maybe 800mhz will it save significant battery and reduce heat?

Dude, first of all, I'd suggest to stay away from under volting anything as it severely affects performance and life span of the hardware. It needs a lot of testing to get it correct, else it simply damages the hardware. Yes you may get more battery life but it wouldn't be a huge difference as per stock.
As per your first problem, simply calibrate your battery using battery calibrator from the market. Do this with defaults volt values.
As for 3d games, yes mine too gets hot but that is due to the gpu as well, so underclocking only the cpu won't help. And if you underclock both of them, then it will affect gameplay.
My phone lasts for at least four hours with mobile network on, but that is because I am using a 3460mah battery, not the default one.
thank you for answering
i just want to play 3D game above 2 hour more i will calibrate my battery and trying to underclock than undervolt it to 1 ghz , on 1.2 ghz is still play gta 3 all max with smooth framerate

RN4 keeps overheating when using apps such as Clash Royale and any VR app

I heard the Helio x20 processor is designed to not overheat, by shutting off the more powerful cores. However, my RN4 keeps overheating whenever I charge sometimes, play any game or use any VR apps. Is there any way to fix this? Currently running on xiaomi.eu's rom, followed the other thread's instructions on improving battery life and multitasking and used Lspeed + Kernel auditor for tweaks.
Is this a MIUI problem or the CPU? Will changing the governor help? Thanks in advance.
I play a lot of Clash Royale and have zero heating problems with my RN4. also using VR and get normal heat up, but nothing out of ordinary... Using latest MIUI European release.
There is a big difference between "the phone gets hot" or "the phone is overheating". Overheating usually leads to automatic shutdown or restarts. So i guess, your phone just get hot like mine does, when i play some games or use the phone while it's connected to the charger. By the way, this is a 10 core processor, and it's quite fast, so it's completely normal if the phone gets a little bit hot. Especially if you play games, and you are in performance mode or connected to the charger.
