Galaxy S3 / Bricked? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
2 months ago I rooted my S3,
with the CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.2 & odin & stuff, It worked,
Today I wanted to unroot it, & I thought you could just Reset your phone and everyting would go back to factory settings, because I wanted some
original updates...
I found out if i did that it would still use SuperSU & be a Custom Firmware. So I removed the SuperSU app, Deleted CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.2 or it was CWM-SuperSU-v0.89 from my SD.
I wanted to reset it again with the hard mode setting or something: Volume up + home + lock key
I mounted everything /sd card /system /cache etc. Why? I dont know..
Now my phone gets stuck at the screen when you turn on your phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300
Did I just brick my phone?
Greetings.

No you didnt. But your S3 has nothing to boot. So you should flash an original fw from sammmobile with odin.

You could try to make a full recovery with Samsung Kies.

Are you sure this works?

We are not Samsung customer service and we do not guarantee it work. In this same general section there are two sticky threads that will guide you can download the stock rom and flash it using Odin, titled " [Stock Official Firmwares] I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4) - United Kingdom" and "[Guide+ROMS]Odin Flash+Root Guide & Stock Firmwares".
You will lose all your data in the phone when you flash Odin. Also this forum section is for the international unlocked version, make sure you aren't using an American carrier locked version.
Also, question belongs in the Q&A section.

SII I9100 rooted OTA update

Hey Galaxy SII people, I need some help with a friend's SII.
I'm quite knowledgeable with custom ROMs and recoveries, but I have no idea what to do with a stock phone.
The phone is rooted and not getting the OTA to ICS. I want to get the OTA, losing root not necessarily a problem.
Can someone give me a hand with this? I have no idea what I need to do.
The phone also has the stock recovery.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a conclusive, comprehensive answer.
Go to samfirmware and download the update firmware and install it via odin.
All the best.

Flash stock ROM from http://samfirmware.com/ via Odin. Search for galaxy S2 ROMs, just make sure you don't download the dangerous ROMs (the ones with a warning triangle next to them).

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm downloading a zip now. I flash this with Odin/Heimdall? I thought I needed a .tar and a bunch of other files to flash with Odin.
This won't keep root, right? Is there any way I could get root back after flashing?
Also, will this wipe /data?
Oh, and I have the option to download a ROM for a specific carrier. Does that mean I can't use another carrier?
Edit: While I'm at it, is the stock recovery needed for anything stock ROM related?
Yes download will be in the form of a zip file, once downloading is complete you can extract the tar. file and place in the PDA section of odin. This will not wipe your device, well never has done for me. Yes you will loose root as you have a completely new rom with stock kernel. See the guide for rooting your chosen firmware. As for the carrier i always use the unbranded /open version as this has less bloat ware. All the best.

Make sure you don't have repartition button ticked or play with the pit file if you don't 100% know what you're doing either

Restore Startup screen to I9300T

I have upgraded my phone to the unofficial jelly bean release which changed my startup screen to show GT-I9300 rather than GT-I9300T.
I have now downgraded back to the official Vodafone AU ICS 4.0.4 ICS firmware but the startup screen is still showing GT-I9300.
How do I flash the startup screen to show GT-I9300T on the very first screen that appears when you turn the device on?

Are you sure u have flashed the correct
Aus firmware? Do you still have root? Try a factory reset

I also have the i9300T and have flashed numerous custom and stock i9300 firmwares (cwm only). When the phone boots it still shows as i9300T before the boot animation kicks in, but in settings / about device it shows as an i9300.
Initially I found it odd because on my previous S2 model T it changed to i9100 when I flashed international firmware on it.
Maybe something has changed with JB firmware.

You have to factory reset from the phone but it will format the internal sdcard

I used ODIN 3.07 to Flash the firmware via the PDA field.
I always do a backup of my data to my External SD Card and then do a factory format via CWM and clear cache before installing firmware.
The firmware file i used is from samfirmware: I9300TDUALF2_VAUALF2_Australia_Vodafone_Android_4.0.4.zip.
Don't you get your root back when you flash original firmware to the phone?
I have a feeling because I used JB 4.1.1 International it changed the boot screen?
Is there a manual way to change it back using the params file?
No you dont get root you will have to root again. Go into settings backup and reset then do a factory reset. I think that will erase internal sdcard tho.

I've tried searching for the params file but dont seem to find much info on it. I've also watched if the file is flashed when using in odin but I cannot see it like I have in previously when flashing my SG1.
I have completed factory reset using the option under security and via CWM.
Can anyone please provide me with more information to point me in the right direction as I do want to restore it looking like factory?

Were you able to solve the problem? Was just wondering what you did for the boot-up to show I9300 instead of I9300T. I have flashed dozens of ROM, official and AOSP, but mine always showed I9300T. I have the I9300T and I want it to show I9300 instead. Your problem is what I want. LOL. How ironic.

Unrooting, everything back to normal

Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?

Start from scratch again. Backup your data, flash original firmware with odin, root it again, triangle away if you want.

And one more question, which firmware is the newest and best? This XXALF2; Firmware Info PDA: XXALF2 Phone: XXLF2 Date: 05/06/2012
I remeber that i had OTA this month so 6th month is pretty old IMO :S
You can go to sammobile.com to find the latest firmware for your country. Then follow the instructions as in the link you posted above.

You could just do a flash of a stock firmware you can download that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/stock-official-firmwares-i9100xwlsm-t2226063
or you can search for one that fits your taste (be it JB or ICS) on google.
Use odin to flash the firmware you downloaded. You can snoop around the forums regarding on how to use odin to flash a stock firmware.
I tried this stock firmware with odin (I9100XWLSD_I9100OJVLS6_I9100XXLS8_HOME.tar)...also tried factory reset, clear cache and delvik cache..but nothing worked mobile is still rebooting..
Help me please..

Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General, find it, download the 3 part firmware linked to in the thread, flash it with Odin in download mode (this will wipe your phone). Then either flash stock firmware for country/carrier if you want to stay stock, or re-root phone & restore nandroid, or flash whatever custom rom/kernel you want to run.
