Use your bluetooth headset as a wireless camera shutter button. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I came across this article today http://m.engadget.com/2012/05/10/htc-one-x-remote-camera-shutter-bluetooth-headsets/?CG01 and it says that the One X has this little feature that allows you to use certain bluetooth headsets as a wireless camera shutter button. This peaked my interest, so I found my old Motorola H505 headset and gave it a shot. And surprisingly it worked with my EVO 4G LTE! All you have to do is pair the headset with the phone, enter the camera app, and click the phone key on your bluetooth.
I would like to hear about other people's results.

Do you have to press the phone key three times every time, or just for the first shot?

I just tried this out with my old ps3 bluetooth set and it worked! I just needed to press the power button on my bluetooth device once tho. It could be different for every bluetooth device too.

WHOA!! I had no idea, I just tried it using my Motorola S9-HD earphones.. one click, worked perfectly..

This works with the Plantronics Voyager Pro+. All you need to do is long press talk button till you hear the beep. It works great for surveillance and investigations.

Doesn't seem to work with the Plantronics Discovery 975. I tried pressing the button once, three times, 5 times, and just pressing it until something happened. Nothing happened. Not holding out any hope for this, but if anyone has had any luck with getting a Plantronics Discovery 975 to do this, I would love to know what the trick is.

It has worked on my Jabra Extreme, Jabra BT530, & Samsung HM7000 since day 1...

works with my LG Tone, just one push on the talk button does the trick. Now the real question is, is this more of a glitch than a feature?

Wow, that's bad-ass! I just tried it with my OG Jawbone and it works! I only need to press the button once. Thanks for the tip.

Cool it work, i have the Motorola H17 works with one click

I'll try this on my Samsung headset tonight when I get home. I never use it for my phone, only for my PS3, so it just stays on the charger at home.

I have an Old LG HBM-210 laying around and I saw this ... I only need one click!!
This is kinda cool for when you wanna take a family or friends portrait .. hell even just to lay your phone somewhere and take a secret picture lol..
Thanks for the tip!

Works with one press of the call button on my Rocketfish RF-MAB2. No other buttons do anything, unfortunately. But still, great find! :good:

Im wondering the same thing lol, i think its more of a glitch than anything else. Maybe the shutter button its getting intercepted by whatever you do on your bluetooth headset who knows

Yup indeed, too bad i dont have a bluetooth headset to abuse this little feature. lol

I really want to make a bike mount for my Evo so I can get some cool shots while riding through the streets

My Samsung Bluetooth works with this feature. However, it has a slight delay of about 1.2 seconds from the time I push the power button on my Bluetooth, til my phone responds. But its still an awesome feature.

[Q] Problem using TV-Out Function on Vibrant

Hey everyone, I've been having trouble connecting my Samsung Vibrant to my standard definition television, the cable I bought off Amazon was the Amzer 3.5 mm to rca video out cable, and no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to work. I've posted a quick video on youtube explaining my problem, and thanks for any help in advance:

have you tried the RED for video in?

+1 on that,
The cable could just be wired wrong, try changing the one you use for video, leave the audio unplugged until/if you get a picture ....

no dice, i'll probably end up getting a refund on the cable and buying the one directly from samsung's website, even if it is over-priced.
go to radio shack and buy the same cable and try it
I watched this video and see the issue.
You are not pressing the 3.5mm end of the cable.into your vibrant with enough force. You would be unable to do it with one hand.
Press it firmly in, until it clicks. you will need to press with force.
I suppose i can record a video if you feel you are pressing it im.hard enough.

Problems using headsets!

Hello everyone! Does any of you have sound problems when using headsets with the microphone built in? When I use them the other person says that they cannot hear me or that I sound like I was too far from the microphone. Plus there is no icon to tell me that I am using a headset!

I'm a Sprint Product Ambassador supporting the Launch of the Photon 4G,
What brand of headset are you using, and the obvious question is are they 3.5 mm?
I can tell you one thing, the typical headset icon that you see on other Android devices is not currently being used on this UI. I have a pair of Klipsch S4's, no mic, and I can set the phone on my knee while driving and still be heard from the caller on the other end even with the mic so far away from me.
Could be a bad mic on your headset.

Since this is about headsets, I'm just going to ask about my problem with them as well.
I can't seem to do any double press/triple press commands on this phone. It would pick up single press ("play/stop music", for example) properly, but when I try double pressing it, it runs the single press command immediately after the first press.
If that made sense.. anybody can confirm this problem?

Good, I thought it was just me. I've been trying to use an older set of Apple earbuds (so sue me, I find them comfortable ), and I get the same complaints on the other end. I hope it's not a hardware issue with the jack.

headphone adapter with remote controls?

Does anyone know of an inline headphone adapter that has remote controls and I can plug my own earphones into? I'm talking about something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Headphone-Adaptor-Control-Shuffle/dp/B002J1SCRQ
I heard iphone adapters like above kinda works for Mortplayer and Mixzing (one click pause, two click skip forward but not volume etc.) Anyone tried these or a better solution? I don't want to use the stock ones nor cut and solder a female jack. Thanks
I have one of those, I use it with my old 2nd gen iPod touch when I run... To be honest I've never tried it with my phone but I can test it tonight if you want, just lemme know what app you'd like me to test with. Personally I'm partial to Headset Button Controller since you can pair it up with any music app or even Tasker for other tasks... I still use HTC's stock player most of the time (unless I'm playing Pandora or stuff from my Amazon cloud), the lock screen controls are the most seamlessly integrated imo.
I can almost guarantee the volume buttons won't work for any function tho. I also have a Philips adapter that they used to sell at Target, it's like 3 ft long with the single button, microphone and 3.5mm jack both at the end of the cable... Used to be like $10, haven't seen it in a while tho.
Rather than spend $10+ on a cable tho, I'd recommend just gettin a solid set of IEMs from someone like Meelectronics with the mic/button integrated and positioned at a proper height in the cable. I bought my M9P for like $20 with a discount and according to many on Head-Fi they rival some of the $50 IEMs... They definitely sound better than my old Senheisser CX300 (paid like $60 for those but that was years ago when there were next to no budget IEMs).
You know, unless you have a very specific need for the adapter or you already have a high end pair of headphones.
My 2c
I preorder these http://www.klipsch.com/image-S4A-headphones
I wonder how the Android version of the S4 will handle volume control in conjunction with their app... Could make it worth the price, generally they're nice but not quite worth $100 from what I've read (again, Head Fi's a great place for headphone comparison etc).
I have a Acoustic Research Bluetooth adaptor that turns any headphones/speakers into wireless Bluetooth headphone/speakers. It has controls on it for skipping tracks and volume. It works perfect and I love it!!

i got the klipsch promedias which are basically the same, and the control definitely works but both the music and the phone app try to handle the events. so double-clicking it skips to the next song and at the same time redials the last number. it works well for pause/resume though.

Pretty sure that is your rom you're using.. they haven't properly switched the remote to only work when in a call state or some such. Remote shouldn't do anything but control the music app unless the phone is ringing or you're already using it.

Would you be able to test it with stock Sense music player? I'm wondering if it would make pause and skip next tracks.
My M9P's button didn't work with the stock player on the EVO 4G, which is why I started using Headset Button Controller (which solves the issue and allows me to keep using the stock player), I've yet to try it on the 3D tho. I'll try it tonight with the headphones and both the adapters I mentioned. It might surprise me, I noticed the 3D cuts volume to 50% automatically when you plug in headphones, that's something the 4G definitely didn't do!
Alright, sorry about that, I fell asleep last night prior to testing this. I tested the short 2-3" Belkin iPod adapter that was linked before, as well as the longer Philips adapter with a mic that I mentioned, and my own Meelectronics headphones with in-line mic/button. They all worked exactly the same despite the fact that the first one doesn't have a microphone, the electric signal they all send thru the third marking on the 3.5mm jack is the same after all.
On a stock EVO 3D, one press of the button on any of them will start the music player (with the phone locked or oherwise), and a second press will obviously pause it. A double click or press will dial your last dialed number, and pressing and holding will invoke voice search just like long pressing the search button. Pressing the button while the phone rings answers the call as expected and pressing it again hangs up. There's no triple press functionality and the volume buttons on the Belkin thing did nothing at all.
With Headset Button Controller installed you can change any of that behavior, and assign functions to triple press, amongst a lot of other things... And it integrates just fine with the stock player, so if you want more control over your button functions, it's probably worth the $2.60-ish. If anyone wants it tested with any other app just lemme know, tho HBC probably covers the expanded needs of most even if your particular player doesn't.
HBC also has support for what it calls left and right buttons but these definitely don't correspond with the volume buttons on a standard iPod adapter, not sure what headsets have 3 buttons which HBC might recognize... That Kplisch set mentioned before might be one.
I have the Klipsch S5i & only the play & pause works, double tap radials the last call & the volume buttons are unsupported.

Dont discount the Bluetooth stereo headsets,
Did anyone ever answer the OP's actual question? I need an adapter for my own headphones with a pause/play button that will work on an LG Optimus. I do NOT want a Bluetooth option and I do NOT want recommendations for headphones. I have a set of headphones that I love, but they don't have a pause/play button. I'm also not willing to cut and splice/solder. I don't need volume or skip track buttons. I just need to be able to quickly pause the audiobook I'm listening to without unlocking my phone.
All I can find is adapters for iphones and ipods, but I need one for my android phone.

What Bluetooth are you using?

So.... I'm in the market for a new Bluetooth and wanted to get some REAL user feedback of what everyone is using and what are their pros and cons are of the Bluetooth you are using.
What I'm looking for is a Bluetooth that can take advantage of Androids voice commands thru the Bluetooth with out touching the phone (i.e. Call xxx, navigate to... Listen to.. Send text to...)
Also I have seen and been reading that some Bluetooth manufactures are releasing their own apps in the market. which enhance the Bluetooth experience with text to speech, and ability to respond to text thru the Bluetooth.
Also would like to know what sound quality is, how well music streams, voice and call quality(on both ends) and distance away from phone(how far you can go) and talk time.
There is one Bluetooth I have been looking into, and it is the motorola HX550 that sprint has.. It has moto speak app (which will read your text to you and you can respond to text thru the Bluetooth and has a range of 300 feet.
So please let me know what your pros and cons are...
Thank you for your input...

I have the Jawbone Icon and I'm very happy with it. I upgraded to it from the Jawbone 2, which I still have and it still works perfect as well. With the Icon you can listen to music and audio from movies/videos on your phone. All you have to do is sync it with Jawbone's website and update out to the latest software. The company, Aliph, constantly has software updates and apps on the Jawbone website so you can keep your headset up to date with the latest features. I've never had a Bluetooth headset before that had those kind if features, its really nice.

I don't use it a ton but I have some cheap LG model someone gave me as a gift, nothing remarkable about the earpiece itself... The car dock/speaker it comes with is pretty neat tho, it comes with a basic windshield cradle with two suction cups and it has photovoltaic cells on the outward facing side... So I drop the earpiece into that car speaker/solar charger and I never need to worry about charging it.
Kind of gimmicky since the batteries on these things last a while, but since I don't use it a lot and my car didn't have BT it's particularly convenient. I use a separate Kensington kit for BT music streaming in the car tho, the remote on that LiquidAux kit is something I haven't seen elsewhere.

I've been using the Motorola S10-HD headset for a few months now and like it a lot. The mics isn't as good as on a dedicated talk only headset like the jawbone (which I also own but always seem to misplace) but its durability and multi function use as a stereo headset when needed works perfect for my needs.
Far as the specifics you mention, I've been clear across my house and still had a great connection while listening to music. As far as function, it seems to do everything my jawbone does in terms of using the voice dialing and music player controls but I haven't figured out a way to send a text message via the headset, that would be handy.
Just ordered the jabra sport Bluetooth yesterday. Well update post when they arrive in a couple of days

I haven't tested the range too much. I left it in the backroom of my store and walked outside and it lost connection. Straight line distance at most 20 feet but lots of metal, electronics and concrete that could harm signal transmission

I have the Motorola finiti, which I love. It actually goes in the ear instead of the ones that have the big speaker that goes against the ear canal. Those require you to use the over the ear thingy, whereas this one doesn't because it goes in the canal. If you wear glasses, as I do, or don't want to wear the "thingy" all the time, I'd look at something like the finiti.
When it comes to voice dial, It's hit or miss, more often than not it fails to make the correct call or even one at all. I get a lot of "no result try again" or "calling John on mobile" when I clearly said something completely different like call Galaxy 1.

Everybody that has read and responded to this thread knew exactly what was meant, as did you. Yes, it could have been worded differently, but there is no need for this post. Besides there's different Bluetooth devices, not just the headset, there's in car speaker, earpiece, headphones, even a car radio. So calling them all just plain Bluetooth is standard for most people and everyone understands it.
While we're correcting people your sentence should have been "What YOU want to say is: Which Bluetooth headset IS everyone using?"

Sony makes a really nice set of headphones with the mic, If any headset works as stated above, that would be a pair I would consider. Walmart has them and also office depot, and usually theres like 3 or 4 models about 5 - 10 bucks apart.
There's been a few times i was traveling or something and needed a pair quick or the kids lost my girl's pairs, and a quick trip to walgreens and $15 got a nice set of stereo ear plugs and I know some of them have the mic and headset controls that will work with the headset hook mod.
Don't laugh but try Big Lots if you have 1 near you. The last time I was in the 1 near me they had a ton of ear buds & over ear headphones real cheap.
