Hi again, i read elsewhere to remove the ext sd and format ur internal sd. Did that but still getting the errorcallback message and black screen. must be a hardware issue unless anyone else knows a fix. dont really want to be without my s3 for a week but i cant do without me camera

It's a hardware problem. Fixed mine by a few hard taps on the glass of the rear camera with my finger. Probably a sticky shutter..

You can flash updated firmware for your camera (be careful). Search a bit and save, roms have nothing to do with it.

Thank You So much

Broken Camera after ICS update

Hi, I just got my OTA update yesterday for my TF201 and today when i tried using the camera i realized it does not work... all i get is a green flashing screen for where the camera image is suppose to be.... i have attached an image of what happens.....
Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix??
Everything was working fine before the ICS update... i have taken tons of pictures with the camera....
Also when i have the camera app open in ICS, i can hear the camera turning on and off physically... i just cant actually view anything
I had a camera firmware update immediately after installing ICS. If you didn't do that you might check that out.
I am fairly certain that i saw a camera update get applied as well.. since then.. this happened.........
When i go into settings and search for updates, it says nothing can be found
i have the same with mine, uuuggghhh
i actually contacted asus and there only answer was to go back to oem 3.2 and lose all my data
i have also had issues with my wifi dropping off when the unit goes to sleep
not sure how this stuff makes it to production like this
Mine is the same now but seems to clear up after toggling from the main camera to the display side camera and back.

You are not alone. We are having the same issue with the rear camera. Below is the post started by another member two days ago. It seems there is just a small percentage of tablets experiencing this issue. Either this or there is not many people testing out their camera after ICS update yet.

Did the Asus support show you how to go back to oem 3.2 ? or if you know how, can you show us ? I would rather try to flash it back to 3.2 (hopefully Asus can fix this latter) than sent mine back to amazon and wait for god know how long until they have the tablet in stock again.

Camera Crashing and Locking Up

Hi Guys
Im on XXEMC2 412 Stock, not rooted
Only had my S3 (I9300) for 2 weeks now and its been working great, so decided to have a go at exploring the phones deeper features, but when using the camera its started locking up, even saying "Camera has Locked Up/Crashed". usually when boot Camera from Home Screen, Booting from Lock screen seems to be ok, also when I use "back" button or view a photo, sometimes the screen goes black and the homescreen is stretched and odd display. Ive tried Rebooting, but doesnt help but everything else is fine.
I did a search on XDA, and found plenty people with the camera issue, but no solution as of yet and it seems to be mainly the T-Mobile USA Variant that does this, had anyone got any advice pls or is this the start of the Sudden Death issue and should i return the S3
Thanks

Thanks, Is there a particular App you recommend that would highlight a specific fault, or just anything
The store I bought it from has a 28 day swap for new S3 if faulty policy, but if the S3 is faulty outside the 28 days, they send it back to Samsung.. so ide rather it went wrong now, hence, is there anything I can test

Ok, I tried Cartoon Camera, Multi-Lens Camera, Zoom Camera, Camera MX and Camera Effects.. all worked great. I did have lockups on these apps when I used them for the first time, but after that.. they worked great, so.. question..
Could my Lockups and Crashes be due to the fact that I was playing around with "burst shot", "Best Shot" changing white balance and metreing for the first time and the S3 was initialising the camera driver?.
I have 2 weeks left before the 28 days runs out, so ill use the camera and push the phone to its limits constantly.. is there anything I should particularly test for or try with the camera and the phone itself to make sure my S3 isnt dying?
Cheers

Everything seems to be working Great without issues from both lock screen and homescreen, so ide like to think that may be it was a driver setup issue, however, ill give it another day and work the Camera.. then yeah, if it does it again.. ill get it exchanged.

[Q] Poor Camer Quality

Very recently I have been getting poor quality pictures. They look just OK. The are not really sharp and clear. Here are some samples. Any ideas? I see the dimensions are still 3264x1840 but the file sizes are also under 1MB in size. My settings haven't change and I haven't installed anything recently. I do not have any camera or picture add-on application installed either. I've uploaded the originals here: http://imgur.com/a/7Q3RS

Silly question, but have you checked the lens cover for dirt or misting up internally? If the camera is not focusing correctly then the image file size would reflect this as it is not capturing any details, even tho the resolution is set high. If your phone has for example been in na air conditioned area for a long time, then gets thrown into extreme heat you may get misting internally until the phone warms up.

Not at all a silly question, but I cleaned the lens cover profusely - to no avail. There are no scratches on the cover - it looks pristine - as the phone is not that old. I live in Abu Dhabi, and do have that issue with the heat and air conditioning. But it hasn't been that hot yet (remarkably). it even occurs indoors...
Also congratulations on joining XDA!

Crumbs, do you know when this started? Was it after such a condition with the cold/hot environment, is your camera permanently taking photos like this and does the image in the view finder (screen) before you take the shot look out of focus too???
Easy to state, but you may want to try a soft reset of the phone in case the software is playing up.
Thank you.

Give it a go and see what happens. If that does not work I would take your phone back fir repair/refund as it sounds like a hardware issue.

me too the same thing happened, but I realized that it was after I updated the firmware 1.30 to 1.35. All the photos I take are like the ones you are taking. I also have no idea how to change it, because I reset the device, already changed my rom already updated to firmware 1.40 and nothing worked.
I even went back to the factory mode with a RRU and nothing!
If anyone can help us ... would be great! : Confuso:

Looking around the web there does seem to be a few posts about this issue, so here are a few things to try:
Force close the camera app - clear cache/data,
Try touching the screen while in the camera to see if it will auto-focus/make the focus sound - Does it focus? Or focus and then looses it?
Check for a firmware update for the camera,
See if you can uninstall any firmware updates on the camera to see if that caused the issue,
Finally - From what I have read it is most likely to be a hardware fault - return the unit.

I've done all this and not solved. I do not think it's hardware because this only happened after you upgrade the firmware, I believe there must be some source code that would solve it.

Entirely possible, not sure if the OP updated his firmware. But if the firmware has broken it then you have a right to send it back for repair. After all, if they do not get any reports back of camera issues it is unlikely they will rush out a fix.

I live in Brazil and here there is no HTC store. I bought this device in the U.S. and I can not eviar the device there. So I'm trying to solve here, asking for help from our colleagues who are hackers cell.
Ah, that would make things rather difficult then. :/
I am thinking this is a hardware issue as well. My camera version is 4.0.522443. I remember updating the camera as soon as the update came out, sometime in January I think. It has been taking great photos since about a week ago. I haven’t installed anything new – just an update for ES File Explorer, which I uninstalled but it hasn’t made any difference in the quality of the pictures.
I may have to bite the bullet and send it in for repair.

If u have this smudged or blurred issue with your camera my config won't help.
Best factory reset your phone but I doubt that will help either.
To copy over the media_profile you need root access first by unlocking your bootloader and installing super user rights, then just use copy over with a root enabled file browser like root explorer and reboot.

Well, with all I know about cameras by being a freelancer photographer and with my little knowledge about android what I can say to try to help you is:
Did you wipe your phone between flashes? I'll guess you did since you tried multiple roms. If you didn't, You'd better try to...
If stock ROMs also show the problem I'm afraid to tell you that the only circumstances I saw this kind of problem in my life was in faulty camera sensors.
Were your sensor hit by any kind of laser or a very strong light while trying to snap a picture? Similar problems happened lately with photogs attending a concert. See link:
http://www.diyphotography.net/20000k-red-epic-sensor-burnt-lasers
If this didn't help and the problem started out of nowhere then maybe you got a faulty unit, are you still on warranty? If so, it's time to revert to stock and go to a service center!
Kindly hope I'm very wrong though... Good luck!

My feeling is that this could well be a hardware problem, not a software problem - ie nothing to do with your ROM, as you said you've flashed a few. If it is a hardware fault then see if you can get it fixed under warranty - but as has already been said, you'd need to return to your stock rom first otherwise they wont honour the warranty.
Having said that... were all the ROMS you tried AOSP / AOKP based? While I haven't had the problem you have and it does seem very unique, I have had more issues and bugs with the camera when using ROMS built from these sources on my i9300 than anything else. At the end of the day, Samsung know best how to drive their camera hardware, and so it doesn't surprise me that the vanilla Google roms can be a bit buggy when it comes to device-specific hardware such as the camera.
You could try flashing a stock-based custom rom - one built from Samsung firmware. Omega ROM that you are currently using also do a stock-based rom built on the 4.2.2 Samsung leak, I have used it and can confirm that it was pretty darn stable and the camera worked really well. It has a few mods in it, nothing spectacular, but it is stable.
Hope this helps.
This looks like a hardware problem. But can't be 100% sure.
I had a camera and someone dropped it, after dropping it, the camera started taking photos like that with stripes of different colours.
Did you drop it or water got on it?
very weird
I tried to fix permission, wipe dalvik and wipe bats and the camera starts to work again. Have no idea how long it will take. so far it is working as has never had a problem.
thanks for all answers...
and sorry to post this on the wrong section.

Those were the days ? not missing my LG Optimus 2X/P990 though, worked fine although the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset rather quickly lost support from the maker ?
Back to the thread starters problem, most probably your finger sensor has been exposed to moisture which seems to be this phones Akilles heel, causing home button/fingerprint scanner to go up in smoke. Sometimes it fixes itself with time, and sometimes not. There's a lot of hocus pocus "fixes" for it because of that, going all the way back to KitKat which for sure does not support fingerprint scanner is one of the best. Luckily there's no KitKat or IceCreamSandwich for this phone ?
Proper solution is to replace the front/home button module and hope for the best that it's not as sensitive to moisture as the old module. And yes, this is a design failure from OnePlus, it should have been better protected from water/moisture since the button is easily exposed to both wet fingers and rain.

Same problem. I had wet hands. Not that much though. But I'm afraid if this comes under warranty or will they charge money for replacing?
EDIT - My home button is dead for a month now. Very much disappointed with my phone

I have the same issue! Mine stopped working 2 days ago.. I went to the B2X service center (Official OP support for India) and got the front panel replaced for no charge qnd took only 1 day..
You can also get it replaced quickly.. Just don't specifically mention any water damage!

No, AFAIK there are no KK roms for OP2 and even if there was, someone would have to implement FPS in that KK rom which would not be very easy to do..
Better go to your nearest service center and get the front panel replaced..
