Unbranded requesting sim network unlock pin - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have an unbranded international Galaxy S3.
After an Odin flash of a more recent stock firmware + data wipe and factory reset, it is requesting this: Sim network unlock PIN.
Any work around (beside paying for the code on whatever site) or should I return it to service ?
The phone is supposed to be unlocked.

Me too! My phone was unlocked, but after an Odin reflash + wipe it asks for network unlock pin. The 8 digit pin I have from my carrier does not work.
What to do about this?

That's not it. If I am not mistaken I will have to root my phone to unlock and any firmware upgrades will relock it. My phone was unlocked by my carrier and a recent firmware upgrade via ODIN relocked it. I want to keep it stock, but get my original unlock back.

[Q] No network acess, no power menu and yellow text appears on s3

Hey
I bought a used s3 so i dont have any idea whether the phone is carrier locked or not but it was rooted when i got it and was on 4.0.4 i wanted to update it and it took me quite sometime to figure it out
I tried odin and many other softwares in start but no success anyhow later on one night my phone was about to turn off and i had to keep it on so i removed the battery stats and the next morning whenever i made a call the call would last for about 6 mins and in the same time cell would show a message i.e. process.adroid.com.phone has stopped working when i pressed OK the signals would go away and after 2-3 secs they would come back on the same hand when somebody called me i wasnt able to pick their calls because the same message i.e. process.adroid.com.phone has stopped working would pop up.
Anyhow finally after 4-5 days i thought of flashing a custom rom becuz i though i had corrupted my modem so i downloaded this file
downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS3/roms/leaked4.2.2/Rooted-I9300XXUFME3-4.2.2.zip
and flashed it. It was in hebrew i guess and after flashing it i stopped getting sound on call both when i received one or made one. I got a YELLOW BOX as well on home screen and app screen. Rest was working fine sim card was detected, i could use whatsapp, listen to songs, wifi worked fine, in short everything except calling worked fine
Then a friend of mine told me that i had installed a wrong rom so he gave me a link and i flashed this rom this time
omega-roms.net/blog/?page_id=763
Version 43.5
I.e. Jb 4.1.2
After flashing this rom i am still getting the yellow box that i got when i flashed my phone to 4.2.2 and i m stuck with emergency calls only everything else works fine. I have checked emei it matches that on the back of phone
Information regarding my phone is
Model Number: GT-I9300
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND VERSION: I9300XXEMA5
Older baseband was
I9300BULE6
It had vodafone app as well before i flashed that jewish ROm
KERNEL VERSION:

1st of all next time buy the phone from someone trusted i bought mine from a close friend and it was almost like new
as for your problem i think it's the sim card doesn't work since the phone might be locked so try galaxy sim unlock from google play if that's the problem you should get the network back
Come on it was working fine a few days back there must be a solution!

You may want to go back to the stock rom using Odin and see if this fixes the issue. That is the only thing I can suggest at this point since you said you've done everything else. When you bought this phone did you swap the sim card? You may also want to get that replaced and see if that works. Good luck.

Yes finally i have removed the microsim using pin i want to see if the same issue persists with any other sim. The sim module must be fine becaue when i removed the sim card it showed insert sim card
About hardware problem. How can you say that? I could make a call 6 mins long and couldnt receive it on my prev 4.0.4 version then later on on Jb 4.2.2 i was able to make calls but with no sound but now i get emergency calls only So this is not a hardware problem and the baseband has changed can it be the reason?
The app says the phone is unlocked so is it actually unlocked or is there any hard secondary lock which this app is not able to detect?

Please read the rules this is not a fix your phone service centre . If you want help don't be rude . Start at the beginning the original post is confusing and much of the process carried out are wrong . Start by factory reset phone and then flash the stock firmware via Odin from sammobile.com that is for your phone and network .But not any 4.2.2 version . Alternative if you are rooted and have CWM recovery is to format sd card system cache data and preload . Boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin . Then check your IMEI matches that under the battery . Test phone . jje

Could there be some hardware issue with my phone?
In any case, do factory reset, you may use the full wipe script and delet Google Accounts.
ofic.fw.přes flash odin 4.1.2 and all login again

Possible
But biggest problem is that OP has not a clue due to not bothering to read faqs and guides .
Has probably messed everything up as every step has been clueless and wrong .

Network problem on GT-I9300

Hi, here's the first time I'm posting here, I'm having a big problem with my Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 recently buyed. It's unlocked and cames with ICS 4.0.4 and I updated via Odin to 4.2.2 (XXUFME7 version)... I got the problem of "Not registered on network" and getting the message "Only emergency calls". I've tried everithing I found in the web, Ariza Patch primarily and in both ways (via CWM Recovery and via App), this did not help, made it worse, I had problems with my IMEI, but I recovered installing the XXEMG4 baseband. Note that I did not backup EFS folder because as a official ROM stock, I thought there would not be a trouble, but yes, I was a novice at this. So, I've tried EVERYTHING, I've installed a lot of ROMs (4.0.4, 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 the one I have right now) and I still having the network problem, I don't understand because I have my IMEI well (35XXX) and the serial number in "Settings > About" I think it's good because is alphanumeric but something that caught my attention is that Galaxsim Unlock app marks it as 000000, I don't know if this is a problem, I tried that app too but just to test, because as I said, my phone is unlocked and in that app also marks as unlocked.
I don't know what to do. Hope you can help me.
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks!

3 options.
1) Send for repair (best)
2) Wait for Ariza patch to be updated (who knows when?)
3) Try Zuluman patch in Ariza thread (lots of reading)

I9100 - Not on registered network

Hi,
I got my mum an S2 a few months ago. She was able to use it properly until recently where the phone wouldn't recognise the sim. So i got the sim card changed and the problem persisted.
It kept on saying 'not on a registered network'. I read on the forum that the EFS may need changing. But unfortunately i never made a backup before. so i was wondering if anyone can help me to try to fix it. The IMEI is the same as whats written behind the battery.

Try to change the modem if the problem still there. Then try to vheck it in stock rom.
Go to google and check imei isn't blocked mate. Also delete apn and restore them first.
Thanks for the reply mate.
Quick question. when i flash the modem. do i need to flash the modem for the current firmware again or do i just download any other modem and flash?

I managed to solve the problem. I read a few threads where people said they had the problem when they had a pin for the sim card. so i disabled the pin code and there u go, i was able to make and receive calls and messages. all good! thanks all.

This will not help if he has no IMEI.
You most likely corrupted the efs partition. In such a case without a backup you can try flashing a stock rom or modem, or you will have to send it in.

Not even close. All a factory reset does is remove and reset system and user data. Flashing a stock rom will format all partitions and reload all the stock apks, which factory reset doesn't touch

No idea I would contact the seller that sold the device to you. I would contact LG about it. They may advise you to send it into repair. There are ways to fix the imei but messing with the imei is illegal so you wont find help here on how to do it. Google is your best bet if you are left with no option. I nor XDA advise this though.

What exactly do you mean when you say you can't roll back after taking PJ2? Do you mean that I wouldnt be able to flash earlier versions with odin, even if i wipe the phone?

PJ2 uses Bootloader 4 so you can only flash firmware that uses that Bootloader. Like the Latest Version of the G930U can be flashed.
So you wouldn't be able to flash earlier ones correct even if you wipe

I can confirm this, I was stock and took the pj2 update. Decided to tinker with an eng boot loader and it went south. Wasn't able to odin and previous versions and ended up going to sprint for them to flash pj2. Now we have pj2 to download ( thanks @colin0998 ) so, onward with more tinkering.
Please bold and highlight the difference between CSC and Home CSC. I accidentally read past it (at my own fault) and reset my device. I understand that this is my own doing but please do something to draw attention towards it so others dont make the same mistake.

Has this rom been rooted and if so, where?
Thank you.
I needed this badly. I had rooted my s7 with the engineering boot loader and it decided that it would not participate in the carrier network AND reboot at will. Then it decided to spin on the LTE Full Speed splash screen until the battery drained. I did have root over adb and it did work, but something went sideways. I will skin this cat but the day is not today.
One thing to note: The Odin supplied in the download link did not work for me. It would start and then exit very quickly with some unidentified unicode dialog box. I had to go and find another copy of Odin 3.12 from elsewhere which did work.
I'm back to stock and everything is more or less calm with the exception of the sprint and samsung bloatware. I mean, seriously, why are one or more shopping apps in the priv-app install anyway?
:good:
Has anyone been able to root this firmware yet?

I bought an unlocked sprint cellphone on ebay and shipped it to Brazil. It came with sprint rom, and i flashed 930U PEH.
After that, I tried flashing 930P PF2, without success.
Then I tried flashing 930U PEH again, still no success.
Then I flashed this PJ2, it booted normally, but no more cellphone signal.

You probably lost your unlock during all of that. This has happened to me before. I had an unlock done on 930P then went to 930U and the unlock was still there. But once i went back to 930P I had lost the unlock so had to have it done again.
You might be in the same situation where after all of those flashes back and forth it became locked again. Suggestion is to install 930P PJ2, root it, then use an unlock service. Once done it will be unlocked. You can install 930U if you want afterwards if you do not want the Sprint bloat.
