ICS performance fuss - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

After reading trough bunch of posts in Neo section i just felt the urge to write this.
Srsly ppls, whats all the fuss about ICS on neo?
I dont get some ppls here, Sony gave u ICS choice.
If they dident give you ICS, you wld complain "Y U NO GIVE US ICS!!"
So they give it,and you are like "Y U NO MAKE ICS RUN AWESOME ON MEH NEO?!"
Eh? get my point?
Nao "was" awesome phone in GB times. It runs ICS decent, if u know how to make it run decent. its still an ok mid class phone!
Why dont we all accept Neo as it is? :good:
Cheers.

Have to agree with you that there are a lot of people whining on XDA and Sony forums. The problem is that most users don't know how to get the most out of their phone, like rooting unlocking bootloaders etc.
Sony did a decent job, at least they pushed out ICS, unlike Galaxy Ace and W(urgh) Gaming is however quite bad on ICS, which is why I am back on GB.
An ICS guide can be found in my sig. It's been gathering dust lately...

I've managed to somewise speed up mine stock Neo ICS by manually removing bloatware with RootExplorer and with AutoKiller Memory Optimizer

I´ve tried the stock ics rom but just doesnt deliver... i just got an hybrid rom, and i´m thinking about give it a chance to cyanogen...overall its ok... i´m not going back to gb so soon...

I don't have unlocked bootloader so I can't install custom rom but however I'm satisfied with this solution atm
Did you unlocked your bootloader?

yes i did. currently im running stock ICS with removed bloatware, some automatic task killer (supercharger..well just dident gave it a shot yet), and i put some background services under control. i wont dare to say its silky smooth, but it gets the job done on normal day usage. enough for me!

Anybody working on a X10 custom ROM with Sense?

I was able to play with an X10 and I should say that the hardware is really nice and slick. It looks and feels great, and this is not unusual for SE.
The software, however, sucks big time. Not only it is Android 1.6 based, but it is quite sluggish (it just doesn't feel like a 1GHz Snapdragon device!) and has none of the HTC Sense widgets goodness, nor anything else (and don't even get me started with this strange "timescape" thing). Huge disappointment. Android 1.6 vanilla ROM would've probably been a better choice.
Therefore, the only reason I would consider this device is if I am able to flash a custom ROM on it. And since I REALLY like Sense, I'd love to see it on-board.
Has anyone heard if there are any upcoming X10 custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance!
Man dont wanna be rude but why don you read the other threads? Custom roms are only possible when rootin will be achieved. And atm its not possible. Hopefully in a month or so..but nothing for now. And its not sluggish at all.. Mine runs 20 apps and its v fast. Download some taskkiller if you havnt already.

.......................why dont you save yourself the trouble of putting a custom rom on it and just buy a htc?
I know installing roms is not rocket science. But it amazes me that done people can even do that.
Lol @ OP's
knowledge/reading fail.
@rayarny
Did you ever see it running next to a HTC legend? The legend is way smoother on the homescreen, like the fps count seems to be double that of the x10.
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
I happen to have both Legend and x10 (well.. actually the Legend is my wifes.)..
Legend smooth... maybe.. a tiny bit.. but it's also a much smaller screen so imperfections like that are more easily hidden.
Certainly NOT enough of a difference to affect the user experience.
This forum is getting out of hand. It is supposed to deal with Rom development.
Is there a moderator that can move the threads to general?

Well, HTC Desire is my second option
It's just that I really like the X10 hardware - it looks and feels very nice. And the screen is a bit bigger.
I recently sold my desire to get an X10, much nicer phone, all we need is Root, and its the best about
Bloke
MOD EDIT - Moved to general forum as not related to android development
please help me to resolve x10 flashing issue

[Q] Atrix Gaming problams....!

Guys i dnt knw whether u guys experienced this problem befor! but its wieard!
unfortunately some games are lagging terribly!!! such as "Monster Madness THD" "guerrilla Bob Thd " and "dungeon defenders THD " can sombody explain why??
* guerrilla Bob Thd starts to lag when ""Post prossecing eneble" why is that??? tgra devices such as LG Optimus 2x runs smooth as butter on Each and every game that i mentioned! is it smthing wrng with my device???
Could be you have a lot of other apps running in the background sucking up your resources. The games designed for the Tegra 2 are more demanding than usual, and especially with a lot of the bloat that comes with stock you could run into some issues there when you try to run a game.
Try closing down some apps to see if that helps you at all.

If by "pure stock" you mean with the stock motorola, then you have a good bit of motoblur bloatware that is causing some/most of your lagging issues.
An easy solution is to install a ROM that has been deblured and optimized. Most of the custom ROMs you will find in the forums make big improvements over the stock motoblur gingerbread.

it will brick the phone or what?????? my friend tryed to unlock his boot loader and got Failed to boot4 error!!!! since that hw u gona do it???
If you follow directions then you wont brick your phone, but you have to read extremely carefully and only do exactly what is mentioned. But of course, as with anything, you take responsibility for all risks, if you brick your phone then only you are responsible.
The unlocking method is different for different carriers, who is your carrier?

I'm not sure about ROMs though, all the advice I can give is experiment and find one that you like.

Xperia U, shall I flash to ICS for her or not?

Hi,
I have just got the Xperia U for the wife and was wondering if its worth 'upgrading' it to ICS before giving it to her.
It has to be stable, and quick. She is coming from a Galaxy ace so I know this phone will feel quicker straight away cus its better spec'd. I just dont know if its worth keeping it on gingerbread cus she will NOT be flashing custom roms like the majority of us do on here.!!!!
What do youse think I should do?
I had to do this recently for my mum.
Flash the C firmware, root it and add cwm.
Delete all the pointless apps, delete the boot and shutdown animations from t mobile. Flash the 4.7.2 camera mod and status bar toggles. It seems really nice to use so far! She's not compained about anything so far with it
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
thanks! this is a great little phone. nice and user friendly. kinda wanted to keep it stock for her tho, cus the more i change the more likely im guna grab the phone off her and check it for kernel updates etc. !
I do like the idea of removing all the junk software that lots of branded phones come with. But the one i got her is already unlocked and doesnt come with a lot of bloat as standard.
maybe i should of asked, shall i keep this phone Stock Gingerbread, or stock ICS?
Technically what I said is still stock ics, it just removes the junk to make the phone smoother and faster

ah i didnt realise the C firmware u mentioned was stock ICS t-mobile, i understand now. thanks m8
Yea. It's the latest firmware. But the only available version is branded t mobile, hence the root and removing like i did. Then its just a plain rom again

ICS is loads quicker, I put on the b54 one I think it was as its generic, then I just rooted and removed some of the junk and it runs well, loads better than GB.

Or just flash my generic nordic ftf which is pretty bloatfree, just a hint to OP.

You should go for ICS, it's quite smooth and easy to use. Also install one of those apps that makes the transparent bar work as notification light.
Yeah.. you should go with the ICS...
Having this same thought, for my gf that recently got an Xperia U.
The thing is, it works fine for her now. Would it be oh so much better for her to upgrade to ICS.
It at least needs to be just as snappy as Gingerbread and I'm reading quite some negative reviews about the ICS update. Less snappy and everything. Confusing reviews as you all here are very positive about the ICS update.
But you can hear it coming already if ICS makes it slower "Sweety, you made my phone slow!!!"

[Q] Performance in Xperia Sola

Hello,
I have Sola for 6 months by now and it was a hell of a phone till i decided to upgrade to ICS. After that, my performance decreased signifcantly and I can't even do simple tasks. Tasks which a low end phone can do, even better then mine, such as the simple Galaxy Y S5360. And, yes, i get pissed when I look this phone behaving better then mine.
I tried to downgrade to GB, to upgrade to ICS, install a custom ROM of ICS and etc. Lately i tried Munjeni JellyBean, and after that, eXperience Innovation ROM. All of them have a good performance, but still, they do poorly then the Galaxy Y.
I miss my performance and i want to ask you guys, how the hell can i have my phone acting like a real dual-core phone?
Hope you guys can help me
Thanks

The jb roms are not really stable yet. You can try experience v2 rom which is ics based rom and then if you have an unlocked bootloader u can change kernels or even oc ur device. And also what di you mean by slower?

I mean that i can't even multitask with dolphin browser and some other app without having major slowliness in the phone. Or anything that my phone can possibly do (by his specs) and is not being able to do it. I have to uninstall Facebook app and Messenger app cause they crap the hell out of my phone.
Won't the GB experience would be faster/more efficient? Can't you guys reccomend me any "THE ****" rom for Sola? I mean...a kernel and a rom that can really bring me the experience of having a good phone (again).
Thanks

I'm installing Speedy Sola v5.5 now and eXperience™ v2...I will report in a few hours.
I've tried to install the kernel via CWM and my phone got stuck on the boot screen.
Tried with 2 SpeedySola kernels already (ICS and JB) and they do not work.
Just reporting.

Wait there is a kernel for the experience v2 included i the zip u fastboot that first and then u copy the kernel in sd then flash it via recovery. Or if you already do that try wiping data. Hope that helps

I was randomly installing kernels (dumb attitude) until my phone just can't run CWM anymore. Nor being at flashmode or fastboot @usb connection.
What the heck can i do?

Root it and debloat it asap. It would fly on and won't get back to Earth then, I bet.
Back up always before doing stuff
Before even thinking about installing new roms, kernels, mods, tweaks.. anything be sure that you've backed up using recovery and have saved it not only on your phone but your pc also.. that way if anything f***s up, all you need to do is restore and your saved.
Okay, i need your guys help again.
My phone did great till now, but its kinda slow already. So, i want to upgrade the kernel/rom/whatever to make it fly again. Would you guys recommend me some updates?
I was thinking of "eXperience Innovation" or maybe "Ultimate Rom V11". Those roms will make my phone better? As i said previously, I just need my phone behaving like a dual-core powerful phone as it is.
Thanks :cyclops:
Install cm9 or cm10.1. best roms for our phones, hands down
I suggest that you must try project xvr rom, its more stable and really smooth, no problem with multitasking, etc.

[U] Help me make mine faster and better?

Please?
So, first of all - hey, guys, greetings from a fellow modder
I have an Xperia U that needs to work faster than it does at the moment It was fine during the first two months or so and then it started to slow down and now it needs a reboot every 2 days or so. There are two paths to making it better, I guess:
1. Tweaking the current (stock) ROM (Is there anywhere a complete list of Sony's bloatware that can be safely frozen (I've got TB Pro) without causing any force closes? That would be the greatest thing. (please don't recommend using Greenify instead :silly: )
2. What ROMs would you recommend from your U xperience so far? (Note that I need the illumination bar, the front cam, video recording and bluetooth to work properly)
Current firmware on it is: 6.1.1.B.1.10. It's rooted, but the bootloader is still locked
Cheers and thanks in advance!
If performance is your main concern then going back to Gingerbread is probably your best bet as everything ICS or higher will be heavier unless I'm mistaken.
If GB is too much of a step backwards then have a look in the Xperia U Development forum for one of the tweaked stock ICS roms -- most of them will be lighter-weight than the stock rom you're on at present.
As for removal of unnecessary things, I managed to get rid of all of the Facebook and Twitter stuff from mine without issue, albeit I'm on Jelly Bean. It may also be worth getting rid of some of the Google apps if you don't need them, or if you do need them it might be worth removing them from your system/app directory and installing them as user apps as you can then use Greenify (I know, you said you weren't interested) to hibernate them so they only run when you want them to.
If you have CWM installed, make a backup and start messing around, that way even if it goes wrong you can just boot back in to CWM and restore your original rom, problem solved.

Yeah, Gingerbread is lighter on RAM usage, but I somehow feel that ICS and JB are more powerful when using them... Not talking just about the UI improvements. Can't quite explain But I feel the same way about both my Moto DEFY+ and this Sony U
Could you tell me what kind of a Jelly Bean ROM have you got on yours and what kind of bugs do you have to deal with?
Thanks for helping!

I know exactly what you mean -- I would love my phone to be faster but I just can't face going back to GB and now, having moved to JB I'm not sure I could even go back to ICS. It just seems wrong to have to "downgrade" anything to make it better.

I'm currently using kantry123's v7 version of pipi14's JB rom which has a number of fixes on top of the previous v6. It's nice to use but it definitely has issues;
LED bar doesn't work properly
Front camera doesn't work
Low memory causing launcher redraws and other issues
The front camera I don't need so it doesn't bother me, but the other two are an issue. I'm actively investigating fixes and workarounds for the LED bar to see if I can get it working a bit more to my liking. The low memory though, that's pretty much impossible to solve. I've managed to get around some of the problems by using the Experimental v8 kernel and tweaking the minfree values to be quite low but I'm still playing around to try to get the best result.
Whilst I'm very grateful for being able to run JB on my XU, I can't honestly say that I'm happy with the result. But with that said, I am a lot happier with this setup than I was with the stock ICS update that I got, which just made my phone horrible to use.
