What is the best modem for Chile? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been playing with the rom of my phone, now i am in NeatRom it has an amazing battery life, now i want to know what differences makes changing the modem, and what is the best for Chile, Claro-chile company, thanks you all for help me, sorry if i made some mistakes writting this thread.

Well... I used LPS in cm9 and worked really well. No overheat, good battery life.
Now on cm10, experienced overheating with LPS and flashed LQB. Now it works as it should.
Note that it's only my experience and you have to test modems by yourself.

XXLQ5 vs LPS MODEM for galaxy s2

Hi everyone
Has anyone seen any difference between the new xxlq5 modem against lps?? I seem to get slow speed but more bars.
Wondering if anyone else tested or saw any major difference. Just living for suggestion really.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Every network is different so every modem will respond differently so your question is stupid. For me, in the south of the UK on 3, LPS is better but LPS still isn't as good as the good ol' modems like KI3. Keep flashing modems until you find one that works for you based on your network and location.
Thanks and no thanks because a question is never stupid but answers are.
However i am on three UK in south east. Have flashed lps which seems to be good but gonna try ki3 to see what's that like. Have flashed almost all the ones which are available from the past but i was looking for a generic answer to see if people have found any significant difference as end of the day modems are related to the handset model than network!!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Erm, are you in the South East on an exchange?
Anyway, I got "generic answer" - no there isn't one, and no modems aren't related to the handset model, if that's what you're trying to say.
Keep trying modems until you found one you like, out of all the modems I've ever tried there has been difference, but really not much.
Edit after seeing the tags, who sets them? hahahahaha, brilliant.
Hey guys .. never mind what would be the modem that u'll flash but i just want to confirm that if you want to test a modem please see it effect after 48 H don't know why but i can see that the performance is stabilized in 48 H
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Thanks Mo. I wonder why 48 hours? Its a software driver written to run a piece of hardware so shouldn't have a time related issue?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Time isn't so much an issue, but you should probably test a modem in different locations/at different times of day for a bit before you decide whether it's a dud or a keeper so far as connectivity/data is concerned. If you use it once & get average reception/data speeds (as opposed to crappy from the get go; if it's that bad you can assume it's a dud), how can you possibly know that wasn't a temporary network issue ?
When I tested a bunch of modems after switching to CM9 ~4 mths ago, I tried ~12 modems. A few I tested for 5-10 minutes & decided they were no good pretty much immediately because they were significantly worse than the modem I was using at that time (very poor/no connectivity). And the other 8 or so I tested over 2-3 days each to get an idea of what they were like. In the end I stayed with the modem I'd been using for the previous few mths and am still using that modem now.
Same here. Using lps have tested ki1,ki3,ki4,nelp3,nelp4,kh3,lq5. But i think lps beats them all on 3 (UK) in London. Does anyone know when Samsung is going to release this 4.0.4 officially on kies? As that might pack a new driver/modem.
Jelly beans isn't coming to s2, which i can understand from revenue point of view.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
You're on XDA, Jelly Bean is already on S2s. I might be wrong but isn't LPS the 4.04 modem already. The difference between modems is no negligible and newer isn't necessarily better. How are you doing these tests?
Mate you need to grow up a bit more and research before you make statements. Jelly bean is only started off as being ported in gs2 and half of the stuff doesn't work. So i don't know where you are coming from.
And LPS came with 4.0.3 xeu, lq5 is with 4.0.4
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Android 4.0.4 for Russia is out, just flashed the Rom and indeed its smooth. Better than leaked one. XXLQ6 seems to giving good speeds.
Now won't be too long until xeu models get it first.

[Q] Slow H+

I recently installed Omega V8.0 on my Galaxy SIII. Previously I had good H+ connection with stock ROM (Telenor Branded, with Telenor CSC). But after rooting and Custom ROM, my connection is getting pretty slow.
Should i try to flash Nordic or Telenor CSC? Will it improve my H+ connection?
Current
AP: I9300XXBLFB
CP: I9,00XXLFB
CSC: I9300EURBLFB
Any help is mutch appreciated. :good:
Your CSC doesn't change the speed, the modem does.
You can try flashing your old modem again, or try out other modems until you've found a satisfactory one.
Note that the faster/more stable modems always drain more battery.
I prefer it that way though, what good is an expensive phone to me if it's slow but can stay alive > 24 hours?
Thanks man, that clarifies a lot for me. Should I leave CSC as it is?
Gonna try out new modems when I get back home.

Flashed to my previous modem I9300XXLE8, and getting solid E/3G connection..

You should check if you can still do voice calls... People have been experiencing problems with this update and mixing modems with it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You are so right, had issue with voice calls. Flashed back to I9300XXLFB, and no problems with voice call. However I feel that 3G has somehow improved
Anyway thanks,
PS I need some thanks to climb XDA ranks

Yeah only the XXLFB modem works with the XXLFB rom for now :S I found my H+ wasn't amazing, but H works awesome? I would have thought H+ should be faster than H?
I am having another issue, ill just post it here. I recently flashed Omega V9.0. But when i try to flash "Extended Power menu.zip" or "Home button lag.zip", CWM says it's bad zip. Yes, i updated Omega Files to V1.05
Any suggestions?

H+ is a newer version/revision of HSPA. There can be multiple reasons why it's slower for you:
- the HSPA+ capable antenna is probably overloaded
- you have a better signal with the antenna running the old revision
CWM says it's bad zip.

Re-Download the files. They are probably broken.
I have tried several times to download the files, ill try again with 3G connection instead.
V9.0 is awesome

I am experiencing slightly glitchy animations with TW launcher. Will flashing another kernel improve this?
I prefer smoothness above all like battery and performance.
Can someone recommend a custom kernel? I am currently on latest Omega V9.0 and stock insecure kernel.

All I can say is I'm running siyah's latest kernel on Omega 9.0 and my phone's flying with excellent battery life and no visible lag.
Give siyah's kernel a try.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It's noteworthy that you should install the ExTweaks app (free) from Play Store. It allows you to tweak several parameters of the kernel either for performance or battery life. I always go with performance on all.
Stay clear from the overclocking parts of the CPU/GPU sections though, the phone is fast enough as-is even if some people seem to believe their (mostly SSD-related) lags are gone by overclocking. Placebo ftw
Thank you guys. I flashed Siyah, and I have no lag whatsoever. Battery is okay too. I downloaded ex tweaks, but I didn't bother to alter settings, as I don't see why I should yet.
Should I just leave them on default?

s3 can take a lot of uv, i have undervolted cpu by 75mv and gpu by 50mv and have no issues, phone runs cooler too, try uv in stages, 25, Then 50, then 75 You just have to change the audio as this makes a massive diffetence

How to make wifi better

Hey
This last weekend I rooted and installed different roms to try. Most of them still have poor wifi performance, just like stock.
Is there a way to make wifi better? Maybe flashing a new kernel, a new modem or something?
Thanks.
Modems/Radios are meant for Service network provider thingies, like your signal. Whereas, Kernels are for more "internal" things, they affect battery life and WIFI.
so i suggest you flash a custom kernel that best suits you
I hope this helps!
Thanks!
I was thinking of trying siyah kernel. Is it the best one for Wi-Fi performance or is there another one better?

If you're on ICS, Siyah and Franco both worked well for me, if you're on JB, Siyah alpha/beta builds are the only option until the i9300 sources are released.

I cant quite tell cause it's a matter of how you set it.. but imo, siyah is the bomb

I flashed siyah 1.5.3 with CM10 teamasek rom but wifi still doesnt work. I dont options for wifi inside Stweaks.
I will keep trying with other roms.
What I want is the best combo for the best wifi performance. Best combo rom - kernel - whatever. I really need to improve my wifi performance at home.

Best battery life rom

Hi can someone recommend a rom to use on a t mobile (London) sim. Im currently on paranoidandroid and my battery on 3g is terrible like 2 hours constant usage. Even with gps off and brightness down to zero.
I don't need any bells and whistles with the rom just battery life. Heard Neatrom is good...
Thank you.

Neat ROM lite v4 is good. Just freeze all bloat that haven't been frozen. And turn on power saving mode.

AOKP Jellybean milestone 1 is very stable and comparatively lower battery consumption. Also dorimanx 7.23 version kernel with extreme battery profile in extweaks gives you best battery life

Stanley, jottermine & kilometers thank you all for your replies i am extremely thankful and will try them each in turn. Hopefully i will find success.
As for you inception i am aware everyone uses their phones differently but i asked for others opinions so its surely not a concern of yours whether someone tells me their liking of a rom.
Anyways nonetheless i will heed your words and refrain from originating anymore like minded topics.
Thanks again guys. Xda FTW

It is the modem installed on your phone...yes it affects your battery life, signal reception, temperature of your device.
Search for modems in XDA and flash it because no one can tell you which modem suits you it is different for each device
F.Y.I flash jb modem for jb ROM and not ICS ROM
