Charging time.. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got galaxy s2 and Xperia play. I use battery monitor widget pro. The play charge @almost 100%\hour, the galaxy about 50%\hour... What do explain this slowness? Same charger used and battery got came capacity.

This is relatively easy to explain,
Your Xperia Play takes half the amount of time as your S2 to fully charge
My S2 from 0% to 100% takes approx 2.5 hrs to charge, so your S2 charging time is perfectly normal.

and it depens on voltage of charger aswell....650mv...faster charging...450mv slower charging...

charging time depends on charger voltage and batteray capacity..
higher batt capacity needs longer time to charge..

Not like i mentioned same charger was used and both phones battery got same capacity... So the explanation is still awaitedcc

I thought the play has a 1500mah apposed to 1650mah, the s2 charges at 650mah while the play would be.around 850mah, the stock charger is 850ma,you can't get past the s2 slow charging rate best to get another battery and a external charger

need not be the same for evry mobile

That's a good idea, i was going to buy a battery, I'll but charger too.
It's 850 vs 650 but feels more like 850 vs 400, really do slow...

the charge time for s2 is very long!

Charge long, discharge fast :banghead:

Conditioning is more important than the initial charging of a lithium-ion battery.
Run it on the charge for an hour or two extra. But make sure you use the battery to around 20% charge then recharge it fully.
Depending on who you ask, this seems to be the best for longevity for Li batteries.
OK thank you
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
it's also very damaging to run lithium batteries flat (like you see in some screenshots where people run it to like 1%)
optimum charge for lithium is between around 30% and 80%. they will get better life with regular top up charges rather than full discharge and charge.
Re Samsung S3 GT-19000
I asked the same question to customer services when I got mine and was told charge first time for 8 hours,. even though the batt will come with some charge already in it,. they told me charge for 4 hours, then you can turn it on but leave it continue charging for a further 4 hours with minimal use, then your ready to go, the standby life is only a couple of days,. from experience, but if your browsing or playing games/watching video etc it will only last 7 to 10 hours,. hope thats helpful,. regards Gwest
No need to charge for x hours before use. That, and those "fully charged before discharge", "fully discharged before recharge" are for nickel battery which has memory effect. Lithium battery has no memory effect but natural degradation. To slow the degradation, just avoid fully discharge and high temperature.

Are you using an original charger?
Are you using a wall or USB charge?
I have original 1650 mAh battery and it takes roughly about 2.5 - 3 hrs to charge from 0% to 100% using original Samsung charger
It will more if you bigger battery or you are charging USB or with nonstandard charger

i use original charger and battery(1650mah) only from samsung but still it is taking more time around 4 hours.
is there any problem with my battery or mobile?
i purchased it 6 months befoe.
Bro battery charging time depends whether you are using the phone or not... because if you are using it continuously while charging screen n processor drains alot of juice...so it will take alot of time but if phone is in deep sleep it will charge faster...as simple as that..!!

Mine takes about 3.5 hours with the original charger and battery. So, depending on your usage it can be normal.
From a wall charger mine is taking around 3 and a half hours stock battery... yours seems fine...

Have you heard about undervolting and overvolting? and if you install a kernel like Siyah you can adjust the values needed to make your charging faster.

But the charging is still limited to 650mA, since the hardware only has three modes.. 90mA which is never used, 450mA which is for usb charging and 650mA which is for charging with an adapter.

[Q] batter charge time?

my i9100 takes at least 4 hours to fully charge. i bought it recently as a used product. is this normal? what time do u guys get? i guess the phone is 1.5 years old judging from its condition..
Form empty/close to empty, that's fairly normal, tho with a new-ish battery you might get maybe half an hour faster. Given the age of the phone, try a new battery (chances are you're going to need one soon anyways if that's the battery that came with the phone).
Actually it should take around 3 hours..
Because 1.6/0.7= 2.29 hr
1.6 is your battery capacity whereas 0.7 is your charger output current.. so based on the theory.. your phone should charge with in 2.3 hr..

Bad batterry life

I cant use my phone and charge at the same time it discharges and my battery life is not too good.
Is this because my battery is more than a year old ? If it is I would like to know so I can buy a new battery
If it isnt then I wouldnt like to waste money on buying a new battery

Try another battery .

Have you tried Greenify?
Yes I am currently using both but I still cant charge my phone and use it at the same time without the battery percentage dropping

Also I use a iPhone wall adapter with a blackberry usb cable I lost my charger maybe thats the reason it doesn't charge properly
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
if the battery drain is alright when the phone is not charging, you should maybe first try to use another charging method! I had exactly the same problem even with original samsung usb cable. I changed it to an older samsung charging cable (galaxy ace) and everything worked perfect again.
Good luck!
Ok thanks ill grab another charger and see if it makes a difference

New charger definitely! Watch out for the output of the charger, should be in the same range as your original!
Okay its confirmed my charger was too weak im currently charging using a blackberry charger for q5 and its fast as lighting no problem with using the phone and the battery draining when plugged in
So if anyone has the same problem its due to the charger

I think its alright! Yup its little slow but its fine! When I was having a stock S3, it used to take 2 + hrs for complete charging (0%-100%)
If you are not satisfied then you can change your charger!
Or if you are are rooted user then u can try by changing charging settings in your kernel(only if u have a custom kernel)!
Press thanks if it helped you! :silly:
Yea, no need to panic. Same here.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
You could use a custom kernel modifing the charge settings but BE CAREFUL, could be dangerous for your battery if you will exaggerate
The older your battery is then the smaller it's capacity and the quicker it will charge. A brand new battery should take around 4 hours to charge, so your battery has lost 40% of it's original capacity -assuming your charger and internal charging circuit of the phone remain to spec.
