Music player on AOSP? - HTC Rezound

I listen to music constantly. I have the Beats Tour ear buds. Anyone wanna share their audio setup? I would love to get the sound that we have on the Sense roms on AOSP.

Ive only been running AOSP for a couple days so I wont be of any help. But ive read that if you install Beast Audio Installer from the play store, this is supposed to give the same beats sound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Its "beats installer." I tried it just now. Thank you soooooo much. Its much better. Not quite like sense roms but ill take it.

Power amp is all I can say. 10 frequency eq and every other setting you could want.
Once you get it dialed in for the majority of your music, you are good to go.

yeah i bought power amp for the nexus... it's good but I like the sense player and widget a lot better. power amp widget sucks and is ugly. you'd think they'd offer up something better by now.

I notices the beats installer takes a lot of life because it runs in the background. Remember to kill it after you're done listening to music; restart the phone to enable it again

after fiddling with that or musicfx I noticed nothing different so I froze them both to keep them away from foreground running and just used the 10 band equalizer within poweramp

Is there anything like supercurio's Voodoo Sound? Doesnt this phone have an amazing DAC like that of the galaxy s(fascinate) Im currently in the process of getting a rezound and im trying to learn as much as possible. From what I know beats really isnt that good correct? Isnt it just a glorified EQ?

Unfortunately not. That's the only thing I miss about my Charge. Supercurio only owns Samsung, and won't let anyone port his work to anything he doesn't own because he wants to be able to support it properly if it has his brand on it. It might be possible to emulate, but no one has done it yet.

I would agree with you but since The 2.0 update it allows for skins. I use kovledevs ICS power amp skin and Its much better looking. It also skins the player and Widgets fyi. The beats actually makes a pretty good difference. But sense roms just have such better sound. For me for some unknown reason my audio is really messed up and seems like it's only playing in mono instead of stereo. And it's only a problem on AOSP rooms. As soon as I go to sense its fine. So I may go back

Thanks! I'm really surprised by this phone it seems like the underdog for some reason. The prices for these phones are really cheap compared to a razr or nexus. The quality of this phone is definitely better than most and the screen is really superb. I'm not sure why more people dont like it. Good for us though! As a side note I realized that even replacing the lcd and digitizer is quite cheap and easy.

You see what we saw in this when we bought it. Even when full price at 300 seemed much better than both Razr and Nexus. Camera, screen, sound, great radios, removable battery(Razr), and free beats made this really hard to beat.

Why not the S3? I tend to think that is a good phone overall. Althoughm when you take apart these phones you see there is no metal shielding around the components like htc or motorola has. This is why the signal is always so good on these devices.
Getting back on topic how does poweramp stack up to the beats player? Isnt beats restricted to only the integrated htc player? I thought I saw a script somewhere to access the beats audio for use on any player. What player or script brings a purer sound from the DAC?

Does anyone else think that Beats Audio sounds terrible?

Ok, so I have tried three or four different roms featuring Beats Audio and absolutely detest it. It's nothing more than super duper over compression and turning it off makes everything sound even worse.
The catch is, I LOVE my current rom (hydra 2.1) , but use my phone in my car to often to just ignore it. Is there anything I can do to uninstall beats or is there anything that I can install that sounds at least as good as the stock rom? Thanks in advance

Get PowerAmp and set your EQ to your speakers for best sound
Anybody know what the Evo 3d signal to noise ratio is?
Poweramp here also. Let me tell you, the 3d kills the OG evo in the audio out dept.
I'm actually looking for something with a nice flat eq sound. I've been doing car audio and security for 19 years. While I understand that I will never approach cd quality, I just don't want super compression on everything any more than I already have to deal with from mp3.

I find Beats to be great. I think it comes down to what headphones you have. If you have cheap headphones, nothing will do miracles for those, but if you have mid-range headphones $30-$60, it makes quite the difference and I don't need to fiddle with anything.

Interestingly enough - Supercurio is working on doing some MC1N2 audio tuning. It's in extremely early stages (as in, he has no threads on it, it's only there for those who really know where to look, and he does NOT like when people put alpha-grade testing software of his into widely available releases.)
So some interesting stuff might be coming - who knows, often research projects like that just don't pan out, so don't get your hopes up.

The only issue with market equalizers is that they are mostly software based which will distort the sound. Voodoo sound is software thats specially designed to rework how the hardware outputs audio allowing for better clarity

you can download Equalizer from Market and adjust it so its just as good/better then Beats.
It is fairly easy to duplicate the beats sound by using PowerAmp and it's EQ settings.
I have a set of ultimate ears earbuds and they sound as good or better than beats after playing with the EQ for a while.
I do like how easy beats makes it however, when you can just fire up the HTC player, plug in the phones and off you go.

I agree with equalizer, just try small increments at first, or you will have more distortion. The neutral quality of audio while playing with this is pretty good as is. It is much louder then most in my experience. So the EQ benefits sound quality even at higher volumes compared to other androids. As a start, 2-4 db increase at low and high end should be your max. You can go a little higher on this but not much.. But on other models, over 2-3 and you risk a lot of distortion because of lack of earjack power.

Listen to Metal? Post your music setups

I myself am toying around with a few setups trying to decide which is best. Im finding ROMS play a big part in sound quality. So please post your ROM. I dont know if its cause we dont have kernel source or what, but i cant get the sound quality i had with my thunderbolt.
ROM - Ineffibillis Deus 1.0
Poweramp - like it, but crashes and freezes a lot, at least for me and cant figure out why. When it works i use rock preset, tone disabled, srs enabled, beats disabled. Id give sound quality and power an 8/10.
Google Music - not great alone.. But when combined with EQualizer app it can come close to poweramp. Im shying away from this because i dont want to get too used to it since we will be losing unlimited data.. Also, i hate having to be logged into webplayer at home with my gmail accessible.. :/ ill give this 7.5/10
So what are you guys running?

I think Mortplayer, DSP Manager, and Neutron is where its at.
Oh, and by the way, you take a hit on sound quality in Poweramp with the EQ or tone controls active. It is just the way it is. I don't consider the Rezound sound in the same league as Galaxy S and family on Voodoo or the iPhone, but the Rezound could sound fine if tweaked. Neutron player should have enough tweaks to whip the Rezound sound into shape without a quality hit.

Sound quality hit. I A/B'ed with and without EQ by listening to music and toggling it on and off with the EQ set to flat. It likely has more benefit than harm if you really need to EQ though.
Neutron player is where it is at, IMO.

The wolfson audio codec in the gs3 is top quality stuff, its already amazing and with supercurio showing it some voodoo magic it will be the ****!
Beats is a gimmick.

To the OP: rest assured, when the S3 gets Voodoo anyone who isn't near-deaf will forget all about Beats.

I agree with your point but the thanks were for the band in your signature!
I wouldn't call S3 sound quality bad but by no means would I call it good, because I've owned a lot of Nokias and the sound quality is just in a different league to Samsung, and I've tried Voodoo on my SGS1&2 but still not even close, and if I want to listen to some music I prefer to dig out my old N95.
Audio quality really depends on a lot of factors: music player, earphones, environment, music file, etc...
Comparing combinations of the above factors is impossible and counterproductive. It's better to compare each part of the "chain" individually.
So far the SGS3 comes very close to what I consider very good. It's not perfect, but then again, I'm waiting for Supercurio's work to be finished. Compared to my HTC Desire and my old iPod nano 2nd gen, it is really good and I hardly dare to ask for more.

I tried same tracks, same headphones and same equalizer settings and also manually changing them, but my N95 beats it with maximum volume and all through the range, and I just find the S3 sound dull and muted in comparison.
Beat's is completely portable to the SIII.
This feature although controversial will be in our next Warm ROM installment for the SIII.
I just posted a link to the dsp manager app. I like it better than beats because of customization ability.

I'm using an old version if DSP currently. Do you have v3 in an .apk install version?

That's funny considering the S2 never had nor was it capable of voodoo sound.
Just took back the beautiful beast evo lte and I might go with the s3, not sure yet... @ Myn, Samsung got really lucky to have you as a dev this time around, I hope they know that;-)

I have some Sennheiser IE80s. Love them
How to get Beats Audio on your SGS3:
1. Use a music player with an equaliser
2. Increase the gain of all low frequency bands to maximum
And voila, instant Beats Audio!
