[Think Tank] Getting some productivity out of our sweet tenderloin, somewhat. - TouchPad General

Anyone care to port or help me port the Galaxy Note 10.1's TouchWiz interface. I know it is possible by removing the dependencies and everything else the apps rely on in the framework. I'd like to make this my little project if someone would kindly lend a helping hand in starting this endeavour. I would need major hand holding on this but I'm sure I can do most of the porting myself if someone would help me along the way. I'm just a Themer so I don't know much about coding, but I'm a quick learner
- Below is the system dump/ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876240&styleid=18
I'm currently running the Memo and Task Manager apps that came with the 1st Gen Galaxy S devices on my TouchPad.
If anyone's interested in this, please let me know.
The attached apk's were made possible by Tortel1210. Copy and paste the apps into /system/apps
Original Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452004
Tortel1210 wrote up a great guide on how he got these proprietary apps to run on AOSP here -> http://epiccm.blogspot.com/2012/01/porting-touchwiz-apps-for-cm7.html

that would be pretty damn awesome! unfortunately i cant help at all and am completely clueless about programming

Do you wish to port the actual UI (the interface), or just port all of the apps that rely on the framework?

The UI, including the apps would be awesome as a full port. I asked a seasoned port master, Xboxfanj, from the Epic 4G forums to help along with this as a port. As soon as I hear from him on his participation in this project I'll let everyone else know so we can sync up and get this going. I *might be able to get the apps ported by myself, but I'll be sure to post back on my progress, or lack there of.

Hm... OK
I would offer to help, but I have several other projects I'm dedicated to, so I don't really have the time. Good luck though!

cool idea! would be awesome

curious if you got any people to help yet, or just going at it alone?

I'm a bit more interested in seeing that split screen functionality from the note 2 and 10.1 . Too bad I have no programming behind me :banghead:

You mean like this? Kinda old, but was stable. Definitely worth trying (I recommend the CM version)

Ran that a while back. Don't remember which build, but it didn't have working wallpapers
Wish it got updated. I mean the rest if the tp has moved quite well

This would be awesome. Hope you guys can get it figured out.

Thanks for that Memo App. it works nice on the TP. would be awesome if we could get something like the note going on this. anybody have a stylus they can recommend that is good for writing on tp?

Progress on CM9?

Anyone know if there is a place to check for cyanogenmod updates? I know no deadlines, but gingerbread is so rough on a tablet.

I am also interested since I have seen working ports already for my electrify and some progress for the nook color

look at dalingrin's twitter for updates.
If you're wondering about ICS on the touchpad...look at dalingrin's twitter posts.
If you're looking for CM9, all i know is they've released a pre-alpha version of the launcher from CM9 for Devices with ICS....how far that puts them down the line to finishing it? I do not know but i'm waiting too (impatiently)
Here is the official source of CM news:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
I would imagine any general news on CM9 will be all over once its out. I saw the news on the launcher in at least 3 different sites within hours of the announcement.

I like how that was worded, it is truly rough. Phone versions of android do work on tablets but its clearly wrong.

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...

@dalingrin I know you don't give ETAs on anything, but is the ICS build anywhere close to GB Alpha 1? Thanks.
@dalingrin:
@SyncV2 Primary issues are GPU rendering under some circumstances and video playback. Hope to finally get back to working on it tonight.

ParanoidAndroid...

What interest is there here for a port of this ROM?

You guys misunderstood what the point of this thread was for. It was to see what interest there was for it to see if it is worth my time to kick start and find others that are interested on working on it.

Super slick rom there. I'd def love to have it on my GS3!
I love this ROM, it's really great on my S II, and I imagine would be more enjoyable to use on the S III due to it's 4.8 HD Amoled
Would be nice to have this run on our gs3s

Fysi, please ignore the naysayers, we want this in a bad way so if you could do anything to make that happen I think there would be alot of happy GS3 owners here! Now go do the right thing. /Dr. Laura voice

Yes, I want this rom too
When I got my "new" s3, I gave my "old" s2 (running Paranoid Android1.1) to my wife.
Well, I knew that this rom really missed me on s3 and I had the hope that someone will port this really innovative rom.
....so, go for it!
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Ok, it seems that everything is moving way fast around S3.
We already have CM9, AOKP and finally ParanoidAndroid
+1 here.
I use this on my Note

BOUNTY: JB Voice Search Port

To ALL Devs:
I'm starting a bounty, and will keep track of others offers, to try to port the new Voice Search w/cards from JellyBean. I have $75 for just the voice search and $100 if we can port the new keyboard also! If any others are interested in these awesome features being put on our note's then feel free to add. Thanks!
I think Quicksearchbox, Voicesearch and Google Now have been compiled into one apk now (Velvet.apk). I have attached a deodexed version of the file for our devs to mess with (thanks goes to ecs1984!).
This may not even be possible, but our real devs are a lot smarter than me, so ya never know...
I tried this earlier to no avail. "problem parishing package" Thats why I put the bounty out. We have some of the best devs around!

Nice find! It looks like they're making good progress.
I am running hybrid rom on galaxy note..installed this and is working just as it is for everyone else (no voice) .. one thing i noticed since i installed it is when i go to system settings/accounts and sync/ if i select any, it force closes system settings "unfortunately settings has stopped" dont know if this helps devs at all ..just reporting it so you know
This is purely speculation, but i have a feeling that we will probably see a JB port with google now fully functional before we see google now fully functional on ICS. Personally, thats what id love to see anyways, because based on the word of mouth reviews ive heard from nexus users, JB is butter smooth. Since these guys have managed to make ICS butter smooth, imagine what they could do with JB.
Same here, installed great on my galaxy note just no voice keep up the great work devs!

[Q] Don't kill me... Is MIUI available for our Note 2?

I hate that I forget about that. It seems like it's been out for a while now. That's on other carriers though.
There's always MiHome to keep you sated until the full ROM comes out, in case you weren't aware. Comes with the lockscreen, too.

Thread moved
My upgrade date isn't until January 25th. I'm really hoping some headway is made on this before then. I'm sure a lot of people, myself included would be very inclined to make a nice donation to anybody willing to work on this! The AT&T group seems to have made a TON of progress on this, so maybe some collaboration could be done with them to port a "final" build over once they iron out the kinks?
I ported miui to the sprint galaxy note 2 CDMA and if you guys want to use that as a base to port over I don't mind ..so far everything is working on the build ..you can look at the sprint thread and its miui on stock base with working multi Window n s pen features

Beans told me he's working on it. He has been very busy with his ROM but I told him I would be patient.
cant wait for this
That's awesome. Since I've moved over to Samsung I've been enjoying jb touch wiz and haven't really missed miui. It had that appeal to me because it looked and somewhat performed like ios but now I think tw is far more superior in performance and cosmetics than ios/miui. I'm really liking the one handed operation that tw offers. I'm not sure that miui offers that.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I cant wait to see MIUI on this badass phone. It seems to have a hell of a lot less problems that the S3 so maybe that means MIUI wont be as difficult to debug. Either way, buggy or not, I cannot wait to see this. And Beans is a freaking AMAZING dev

yes,you can flash
MIUI Home
If you flash the MIUI Home zip will you then have the option of choosing between it and your stock home? Or does something else have to be flashed for that to happen?

MultiWindow - is it growing on you?

So for the first few months I've had this thing I turned off almost all touchwiz bells and whistles. Bad memories from previously owned samsung devices.
Anywho I've recently been doing a lot of Youtubing and am finding multiwindow very very helpful (I'm mainly interested in the audio). Anyone else found a us for it?
How about the other stuff like air *?

Nope that's only for TW no way of easily porting that over and since cm is for many different devices... Let's just say it would be a massive nuclear pain in the ass to even attempt to port it over... Not to mention it would almost certainly be illegal because of patents and probably have to dirty hack with samsung manufacturer code signatures.

No, I find multiwin to be annoying, I run CM to NOT have any TouchWiz stuff, most of which I don't need or want.
CM does everything I want and/or need so I don't miss any of the TouchWiz annoyances.... err, I mean, features.
