Progress on CM9? - TouchPad General

Anyone know if there is a place to check for cyanogenmod updates? I know no deadlines, but gingerbread is so rough on a tablet.

I am also interested since I have seen working ports already for my electrify and some progress for the nook color

look at dalingrin's twitter for updates.

If you're wondering about ICS on the touchpad...look at dalingrin's twitter posts.
If you're looking for CM9, all i know is they've released a pre-alpha version of the launcher from CM9 for Devices with ICS....how far that puts them down the line to finishing it? I do not know but i'm waiting too (impatiently)

Here is the official source of CM news:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
I would imagine any general news on CM9 will be all over once its out. I saw the news on the launcher in at least 3 different sites within hours of the announcement.

I like how that was worded, it is truly rough. Phone versions of android do work on tablets but its clearly wrong.

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...

@dalingrin I know you don't give ETAs on anything, but is the ICS build anywhere close to GB Alpha 1? Thanks.
@dalingrin:
@SyncV2 Primary issues are GPU rendering under some circumstances and video playback. Hope to finally get back to working on it tonight.

Why arent there any custom CM7 roms?

I have cm7 running on my tablet and it runs great, but Im wondering why no one has bothered to use its drivers and stuff to port something like Miui or even post up themed tweaked versions of CM7?

i was thinking about this the other day, isn't it taking alot longer than usual, compared to let's say a HD2? That initial hype of porting Android on to the touchpad seems to have died down.
not saying this in an impatient way or demoralizing developers and their hard work, cuz they are doing one heck of a job to get peoplewhat they want most of all on their fondle slab
....is it because not many developers are interested in the touchpad?...couldn't get hold if one?
That said HP's new move of selling touchpads only to developers might work in favour of getting some momentum to port Android on it

I'd be really interested in seeing a Sense ROM ported from the Puccini/Jetstream. A lot of the hardware is apparently quite similar, and it'd probably make for a better tablet-ified experience while we wait for ICS.
Although, with ICS so close, it's probably not worth it.

ICS source comes out in a couple weeks.
It would be pointless to spend weeks working on a port of something, if the new version comes out shortly.
Devs are just waiting for ICS source to drop.
Plus the HD2 was a totally different scenario.
It was made by one of the largest android phone makers, and the hardware in the phone was similar to its android counterparts.
Why don't you make us one minds?

the Touchpad is not an android tablet!!!
It is a WebOS tablet.
It takes a lot of work to get a different OS working properly.
name me other tablets that have stable android and did not come stock with android.

This is not their day job.

B&N uses a modified version of FroYo for the Nook Color. Source is available for the kernel.
I think another factor is the Touchpad is not easily accessible for some people. Maybe it was easy to get yours, but I had a little bit of trouble. Missed the sales and ended up paying more for mine.

I'm happy with what has been posted so far from CM. I haven't had a lot of issues with what has been released. I guess I have too much going on to be concerned with changes to the touchpad. I can patiently wait for ICS to be released. I'd have to imagine it will be easier to work with since it ICS is designed with tablets in mind.

We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

How is cm7 obsolete? Or dated for that matter, so how obsolete is stock gingerbread?? I think cm7 is a great rom, with endless ways of customizing, with tons of themes already in the market for free, is just like saying what's the point of all these Roms in our note android development forum because there all based on stock gingerbread . I think cm7 would be a great addition for those that think ginger is it and don't care much for an ics update, but that's my opinion. I wish I had the time and knowledge with a linux environment to develop cm7 for the note.

If cm9 is on the touch pad which uses the snapdragon just as we do, and we have a ics leak why can't we have cm9 yet? you know what devs we need here , the devs from the htc leo/hd2 that took a windows mobile phone and turned it into a development phone that could run any 5 OS like a champ, I had CM9 on my hd2 for 2 months before I got my Note and I ran AOSP ICS prior to that for a month and it's smooth as hell. We never had any kind of actual source for anything for it, actually devs were porting everything from the nexus one/nexus s/sensation/evo/incredible/desire hd and made it work , hacking all kinds of kernels , so yeah there were issues when a new port would come out like camera not working(most common issue) but never the less it always came around, now our biggest downfall is the fact that samsung decided to use two different processors with the two versions of the note, if they only would have used the same processor it would have definitely be a different ball game, it would be one forum and all the devs for the n7000 and the i717 would be working together and we would be using cm9 from the great dev imilka from the hd2 forum.
Agreed. I wish I knew how to dev. On the original evo we had great devs also... These devs just rather sit around and wait for the easy way I guess. Idk.

Hi everyone,
I wonder if there any plans to support ATT version of Galaxy Note ?
all recent updates are minor and I don't have any hope that CM10.2 (not even mentioning CM11) will be ported to it which is kind of sad.
I understand that there are some issues with stability and drivers. Does that mean I need to get other hardware to continue using CM ?
Due to all those problems I switched back to stock image and not happy with it, but it is damn stable ((

so what i am reading here is you have 6 posts. i understand that you cannot post in development yet, but that does not slow you from reading.
i am not a technical brainchild and lack the ability to understand some of the terminology, so you will have to give me a little leeway.
development may have appeared to have slowed, but take into consideration the age of our device and the rate manufacturers are producing devices. we may not ever get another official upgrade for our Note, but my phone has ran better in the last few months than previous 8 months. there are some brilliant folks out there working selflessly for us. you may not find much in the straight CM development department, but since release of 10.2/ 4.3 roms, it is much more stable than 4.2 ever was. it runs smooth and effortless with none of the random reboots which plagued 4.2.
now we have quickly bumped to the 4.4 development which is still in its infancy. give it time. there are 2 Alpha/Preview releases right now, with at least another in the works that i know of. my guess is someone will have a Beta or full release by the end of the week at the rate these guys go. cant hold me to it as i am just a recipient who benefits from their deeds. that's just my guess from what i see as far as their work pace.
so excuse me now, i have to put some Kit Kat 4.4 on my phone, which has only been approval to run official 4.1.2 JB.
i am sure this is going to prove to be a good conversation starter here. thank you

I'm sure there are brilliant people in CM team and they are doing amazing job, this is doubtless.

https://github.com/CyanogenMod/hudson/blob/master/cm-build-targets
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=quincyatt&type=
and xda of course
First three show very little progress on this particular device. I'm not complaining, but just trying to understand current state of I717 support.
In comparison with I717 twin - N9000, we get less updates.
I saw 10.2 builds in XDA forum threads, but I consider them as unofficial builds, and I know nothing about them, how well they are performing, etc. I will try them for sure, thanks for pointing that out.
All my question is about is future support of this hardware, should I think about upgrade or just give up and use stock ...

as i said take the tour, take some roms for a test drive. i don't know what you consider your experience level is........
everything runs a bit different on everybodys phone. for example, the Carbon rom has lots of cool features, but it just doesn't seem to want to work on my phone. i just don't want you to label all roms on the basis of one. Hellybean runs great on my phone. there are some here that wont give a phone or rom time to settle in. they make so many tweaks and adjustments in a rapid amount of time, they don't know if there adjustments actually did anything.
so be patient......if its not compatible for your phone, you will probably know right away. if it works, give it some time. there are good and helpful people here. just try and help yourself first and read.
getting ready to slam some Kit Kat on my phone right now with Jaime's CM11 preview 4.
As cyanogenmod seems to have dropped us for 10.2, we are unlikely to see official CM11 support. Our hope for further development lies in unofficial builds from Jamie and Patch who have been kind enough to build from source and share their talents with us.
Normally, I would accept that, at some point, you have to stop beating a dead horse. It's unrealistic to expect a 2 year old device to be supported with the latest and greatest - especially in an environment like Android which seems to have such a quick cycle.
The alpha builds, however, have proven to be more stable on my device than anything 4.2 or 4.3. My question is whether or not we will see some important functionality (like TTS and video camera) restored on OUR device if it is not being supported by CM officially?

The alpha builds, however, have proven to be more stable on my device than anything 4.2 or 4.3. My question is whether or not we will see some important functionality (like TTS and video camera) restored on OUR device if it is not being supported by CM officially?

You have a good point, at least 4.4 will probably run better than any other 4.x before it

All 4.4 Roms right now are pretty much the same aosp 4.4, no rush on getting things rolling till things change and merge

So it would be better to get some of popular devices and use it, because "million flies can not be wrong" ?

More devices in hand means more users and devs, dunno why that's hard to understand

oh, no, don't get me wrong, I do understand that.
What I'm also trying to understand what would be a better strategy to have decent device with enough attention from developers...
There should be some balance here, since advanced devices are good in performance, but expensive and not widely used.

Personally, I'm loving the AOSP feel of 4.4 in a way that I have never really cared for it in Android versions prior. The way Google now is integrated into the GEL is how I would use Nova Launcher to setup previous versions.
With it's super stability, I am really praying that you give us something akin to your Nexus or Evervolv roms...Hell if we can just get working TTS and Video camera on top of what you've given us with your alpha, I'm done...............
.......until my next phone.

What are you talking about? What strategy? What balance?
Devs are also users. Almost all of the devs work on the devices that they own. We may not have the quantity of devs for other devices, but we definitely have quality devs. I also have GTab 2, and LG Optimus and Galaxy S2 LTE, which I manage for my family. Some have very active devs, some don't, but they all have good devs.
I don't know what you mean by "enough attention from developers", but we are getting plenty from our devs even if we don't deserve them. Whatever we are getting beyond the official 4.1.2 is all gravy. Jamie's CM11 preview is running awesome, and I haven't tried Patch's 4.4 rom, but I expect the same.
What more are you asking for?
