As per other identical posts
Recuva may recover deleted files but it will not recover if INT SD card has been formatted .

I have tried this app before. However, when I plug in my phone the app never detect my phone. I try install an app on my phone to enable usb mass storage, it keep giving me error saying unable to mount the sd card as some app is accessing it. What should I do so the recuva can detect my phone internal memory?

AFAIK you can't. That's one of the many reasons I miss the USB Mass Storage mode, under which both internal memory and sd card can be managed as ordinary USB drives.

Thanks for everyone feedback. I think the files are unable to recover back since I wipe it when reboot in recovery mode, it is equal as formatting the sd card.

You can still give it a go by removing and inserting your SD card to a card reader and plug it to your PC/Laptop. Recuva isn't designed to detect and recover files from your smart phone. Instead, it can still recover files from various types of USB or flash devices.
Good Luck otherwise.

I have the same issue. I am trying to recover deleted files from the internal storage (sdcard0) I tried recurva as well and it Windows can't detect the storage when in USB Mass Storage. It shows up as a drive but when you click it in Windows it says "Please insert disk".
If I can get the files to show up in Windows while in USB Mass Storage I can then use Recurva.. any help?

You can try Undelete from the market .
Otherwise as posted answers .

99% no.
My 2 cents...
You cannot mount as mass storage so no PC software will work.
There are things on the market but you have to pay and many probably wont work.
Think of any lost data as gone forever.
Proactively, get foldersync from play and have it schedule sdcard syncs to the cloud or even better, a home computer wirelessly

[Q] USB storage damaged - recovery help

had the "USB storage damaged" error occur 2 days ago on my SGS2 for absolutely no reason... unfortunately, several restarts later it still doesn't work... i would like to try the windows error checking method on my phone cos i've seen that it has solved the problem for many without sacrificing stored data but unfortunately my phone has not been rooted... and not having access to my internal storage means i can't copy the files needed for rooting... or can i?
if there's an alternative rooting method not requiring access to internal storage/SD i'd really appreciate your help!
cheers
hey there,
do you usualy use your device as MTP (default) or did you give the USB mass storage mode a try?
Did try mass storage. Two storage devices are visible but neither are accessible. Figured rooting and recovery is best option if rooting is still achievable under these circumstances
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
hmmm, do you have an SD card (/external_sdcard) in your device, you could copy the stuff from your internal memory with a file browser on your device and then try a factory reset ...

I cannot see how rooting can fix a problem .Though i suppose you could root and make a nandroid backup of drive which may be blank or try mounting the drives via recovery .
Factory reset may fix but will wipe data .

I do have an external SD card but it doesn't detect that either. SD card works fine in other devices. I've tried using ES file explorer but to no avail. And when i try accessing the gallery it says SD card mounted as mass storage.
Yeah i plan to root and conduct a windows error check in recovery mode cos i've seen it work for others.
Factory reset is my last resort.

Managed to root and recover my most important files (photos etc). USB storage still needed to be formatted afterwards though. Will do a write up once i get home today

Flash the appropriate Cf-root kernal to root through Odin then follow below.
If you have CWM recovery, just go to mounts and storage, mount sdcard (or USB storage, whichever), copy files, reboot phone, format and recopy files back.

I am having the same issue as all of you. The only thing is, my computer can't see my phone connected to it. I have tried formatting it but it doens't allow it via the phone... I have been with my phone like this for 2 months now... I really want to get it working. The phone does not access the external at all. I am so frustrated.
Was anyone able to get this problem fixed?

[Q] Is there a way to enable mass storage mode?

Any pointers?
I am currently looking for some information on this also.
Definitely keep this thread alive. Also annoying to not have a Charge Only mode.
I'm not the only one with this problem?! WTF is going on? I can't transfer anything from my computer into my phone!
I seen in the SGS3 MANUAL that debugging must be unchecked in order to view the sd card. Very strange but its in there.

There's no mass storage mode, because apps and data are no longer stored in separate partitions so there's no way to unmount a partition (in order to remount as mass storage on the computer) without borking running processes. Don't know why Samsung/carriers couldn't have included mass storage mode for the external card only (and there's a hack for the international SGSIII (rooted) that does this) but they didn't - only MTP/PTP.

Try using the app named USB switcher. Galaxy S2 Epic Touch on 4.0.4 has the same "feature/issue."

I have the international i9300 but it should work fine for you as well.
There's a bunch of ways to get at the SD card... you can use any number of free apps to do it, try what vinnyjr suggested, or even just pop the SD card out and plug it into your computer.
I think the bigger problem is the internal storage...
I'm completely aware of the partitioning issue Google created in ICS (see plaut's description above) as it was covered heavily when the GNex was released, but I must admit I forgot about it for a while. Now I'm starting to regret shelling out the extra $50 for the 32GB version when the data is so difficult to access.
Does anyone know of a way to get at the internal storage without having to put stuff on the SD card and manually move it using a file manager?
Why is the data so difficult to access..? I have no problems transferring files to and from and I'm using Windows 8..
Yeah I agree. I miss the old USB storage method. Anytime I try to copy a file off of the memory card (in stock [MTP] mode), I get an error. However half the time if I copy and paste it works.

Because I'm not talking about the SD card... I'm talking about the internal storage. I don't have my SGSIII yet, so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it can't mount the internal storage. And I've also been unable to find 3rd party apps to do it. That is why I said it's difficult to access.

Accessing internal and external memory on T-Mobiel S III
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S III with 32 GB internal and 64GB external.
The internal memory shows up as the sdcard and the external memory can be found in /mnt/extsdcard.
This is causing problems with many applications that are not aware of this potential.
I use File Expert Pro and though cumbersome to go through the mnt directory it isn't too difficult.
I was thinking of creating a hard link on the pseudo sd card for the external sd card but I'm not sure how Android handles soft and hard links.
I hope someone figures out how to correct the problem at the android level or many application programmers are going to need to fix this in their code.

Thanks, but neither of these apps work on the AT&T SGS3 (SGH-i747).
So any word on how to access internal from Linux/MacOSX? I have MacOSX by the way...
I'm on Win7 and have been moving mp3s and apk back and forth on both internal and external.
It'd be nice to have UMS (USB Mass Storage), but doesn't look like that's coming anytime soon.
For those that are new to the SGS3, if you're on W7 or W8 you can xfr files if you open the Samsung-SGH-I747 Portable Media device on your Windoz computer while the phone is hooked up to your computer.
Double click and it will expose Card and Phone. Click on either and you should be able to see all the files and do drag and drops to either card. I've been moving files back and forth using this method. You MUST have the SGS3 drivers installed for this to work!
The down side is, if you have applications that sync from your desktop, like Ewallet, that expect a UMS connection - they don't work anymore. Or at least I haven't figured out how to make them work.
That definitely sucks.

formatting internal storage

my internal storage is down to 1gb and i was thinking of cleaning my internal usb storage and starting out fresh. Which folders should i backup on my pc and copy back after formatting internal usb storage? Are there any folders located on internal usb storage that would affect my phone from running properly aside from app datas? Is the efs folder stored in the internal usb storage? Thanks for any comments.

If you format it using the phone, it won't erase the efs folder, but I suggest that, if you haven't, you back it up before you do literally anything else, because you never know when something could happen to damage it, but normally, formatting the internal storage itself won't. The internal storage is an SD storage partition built into the phone itself. The efs folder and other important OS stuff is separate from it under normal circumstances.
Use the EFS Pro backup tool you'll find here on the forum. It's fast and easy. I wouldn't try to do it manually unless you know what you are doing, because it probably won't work, and actually could screw up the efs. The tool is safe and it works great. I've used it to both backup and restore my efs folder in an emergency, and it has worked perfectly.
One advise, copy all your internal sd data to pc, and browse forbwhat you need and what you can delete
Main data are:
Your camera photos
Files you download
Data files for apps and games
The last one can be redownloaded at worst, the first can be lost if not saved

there may be a little chance that you can mount your internal memory (no guarantee!)
-root your phone
-install this mod (it will make an inversion of mount point between internal and external memory)
-use the UMS app (with inverse mount point, it "should" apply to your internal memory)
Never test this so it is just a wild guess (and surely your only chance if it works)...

[Q] Problem with internal storage [SOLVED]

Hi everyone,
I have troubles since 4 days with my i9100 (under CM11)
Since 4 days, I cannot access anymore to the internal memory (sdcard0)
My SD Card works (sdcard1). It's even recognized by my computer when I plug my smartphone by USB.
However, the intern card (sdcard0) is not showed anymore when I plug my smartphone by USB to my computer.
I can't access to the Gallery. The message "no external storage available" appears.
With Es File Explorer, for sdcard0, the app shows the following message "SD card unmounted".
However, in the Settings, when I go to Storage, internal storage is recognized… it show only applications, some cached datas and available storage (total space 1,97Gb ; Available 672 Mb).
In the Recovery, I tried "mount /storage/sdcard0" but it shows : "Error mounting /storage/sdcard0 !"
Does the internal storage is down ?
My smartphone is still functional, I can update applications and install new ones, etc. So I have difficulties to think that the internal storage is fully down.
However, I cannot update CyanogenMod with CMUpdater (I tried a restoration of a Nandroid backup but it crashed… probably because of this internal storage problem) which normally writes on sdcard0.
My version of CM is actually 11-20141024-Nightly-i9100 (it was more recent before the restauration which have strangely crashed… but works!)
What can I do ?
Thanks for your help
P.S : I tried many forums (particularly french forums because I'm French… sorry if I made mistakes on my post) but nobody answered me.

Try flashing back to stock rom and see what happens. If it doesnt help, use a pit file to repartition your phone's memory.
I too have the same problem with the internal memory. My s2 is running CM11 right now. And suddenly it have problem with it MMC. Apps like camera, Bluetooth, and downloading files from the Internet seem impossible to receive any file coz I set it stored in the MMC.. Then I checked the setting > storage, the memory card was there. It detects it's total memory. My internal memory however have shrank to total of 1.6 GB with free memory 300 MB. Are you using i9100G? Have you restore the stock?

Hi, thanks for your help. What do you mean by "pit file" ? Is there a tutorial somewhere for this operation ?
I really don't think that going back to a stock rom will change anything. It can't be a problem with CM. It's installed on my smartphone since one or two years and I never had any problem.

Scroll down until you see a file named 'stock 2gb' then download that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/mod-partition-internal-memory-app-t2538947 Pit files provide information so that you can repartition your phone just incase the worst happens to your phones. It can be used for your problem too. Then, in odin, locate the pit file for the pit selection then tick repartition, oh, btw, make sure you have stock rom with you so you will need to flash back to stock rom by selecting the files under the respective categories. Once that's all done, you can start flashing.

That could work too. But my method better! Doing this will not properly format the internal sd card while my method formats the internal sd card.
Sry.. It's my mistake that I am not giving the full details of the situation. I just realize that for the apps partition, it is set by 2 GB by default. What am I experienced was the SD section for internal memory gone missing. I tried by erasing the SD card. Anyhow, it has been Ok for a while. I'll try to repartition by using your method. Seems that 2 GB is very easy to full

Ok, I just found a solution for my problem, and without formatting anything.
For those who have this problem, you can try it, there are no risk in theory.
I plugged my Android smartphone on my PC.
I went into the Recovery and choose the 'Mount and storage' menu.
Here, I used the 'Mount USB Storage' option. My PC started to recognize the smartphone and I was able to access to my 2memories (sdcard0 and sdcard1).
I made a right click on the sdcard0 and in the 'tools' menu and choose to perform a basic scandisk...
It found errors and correct them.
After that, i made a reboot and my memory was back.
Thank you gsstudios for your help. My solution is not academic (using Windows to repair my smartphone) but it worked !

Ah, so it was a problem with the file system of your sd card, glad that your problem was resolved.
I had the same problem and using the Erase SD card option in the Storage menu worked for me!
Luckily I had already made a complete back-up recently so only a few new files were lost. If I hadn't though, I would have kept looking for a better solution.
Thanks!
Sorry, what do you mean "went to recovery mode?" Means recovery mode in phone (volume up+home+power) or somewhere or an app in pc?
