[Q] Help, stuck at "dual Core" screen. I can access CWM Recovery though - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks,
So the end of Q3 came with no ICS so I decided it was time to learn about modding these phones. I have modded Xboxes etc so I figured I would try to take this on.
My Phone:
AT&T MB860 bone stock with 4591 on it when I started.
I was able to unlock the phone following a tutorial on youtube. Then I tried to reflash CWM and CM7 using AUTOMATIC_UNLOCK_V4.2. Thats where things went wrong. The phone got stuck at the Dual core screen (to be honest I might not have waited 10 minutes after flashing).
So now here I am the battery is drained so I am using a cut off USB cable for power. When the phone is booting it says "unlocked" in the top left corner I can access all of the menus. When I choose recovery the phone boots into ClockWork Mod recovery. I am hoping I am half way there and the kind folks here can guide me to the finish. If not I'm open to starting from scratch whichever is going to be fastest. I'll attach a few pics for reference

(I went through this today, I needed to use option 6 in automatic unlock 4.2 before I could get a Rom on my phone.) this was wrong, tried so many things I got confused, go to this thread:
[Unlocked Only][RECOVERY][2011-11-14] Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.7-atrix5 in ATRIX android development
and download one of the zipped recoveries, flash through recovery to get a modified CWM that left me install a Rom. I was stuck at the same screen as you before I did this now I'm up and running with MROM.

Your recovery is too old. Get a newer version of CWM. Try flashing this. If you can't you will have to fastboot flash a newer recovery.
Flash ROMs with CWM, not automated tools. CWM is the safest way. As soon as you get a new recovery installed create a backup. Good luck!

okay guys I'm jammed up I download the file CWM_Atrix4G_5.0.2.0 and copied it to a clean microsd. Then I went through the recovery menu
Install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>
In the next folder list I am unable to find the CWM file. Any tips on how to get the file straight onto the phones internal flash? Maybe through RSD?

Dude, you're trying to install recovery from the recovery... Doesn't really make sense, does it?
Use fastboot instead.
Avoid RSD at all costs.

You can't do a first install of recovery from recovery. But you can update (assuming recovery is functioning - even partially).

Yeah, I know. You posted a flashable ZIP, the only one I am aware of.
I'd still recommend a standard fastboot flash though.

I have flashed recovery with fastboot exactly once - when I unlocked by bootloader. Ever since it has been flashable zips.

Okay I successfully flashed the new recovery to v5.0.2. Then I chose "apply /sdcard/update.zip" I received the "Install from sdcard complete message" I then chose "+Go Back+" then "reboot". The phone rebooted and sat at the logo with "unlocked" in the corner for a few minutes. I thought maybe I needed to clear it by pulling the battery for a few seconds, which I did. then I let it sit on my desk for 20 minutes at the logo screen.
do need to go in and clear cache? is there another file I should try to flash?
Any input would be appreciated.

You probably need to re-flash your ROM.
Wipe data, cache, Dalvik, then flash ROM.

Umm... That would just install the recovery again. You need to flash a ROM. Seems like your boot partition (aka. the kernel) is borked.

I just installed CM7 on my Atrix last week. Don't forget to install gapps like I did. I had to install them as a zip from the recovery, but I think it's also possible to use the ROM Manager app.
Look for the Google Apps section on this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574 This will have the Market (now Google Play) so you can download more apps.
After that, play with all the features! I started with Menu > Settings > CyanogenMod Settings and started playing around. Don't play with the performance settings without knowing what they do.
Also, Make a backup! Make a backup! Make a backup! It may save you when little else will.

[Q] Help - trying to go to CM7 - stuck at "Dual Core" screen

First of all, THANK you for making progress on freeing our phones!
I have read every thread I can find on this, but I cannot find an answer to my specific problem.
I will try to make this brief.
Now onto my problem.
I am on Gingerbread 2.3.4
I tried yesterday to go to CM7
I followed the directions posted here.
I get to step 12 on the " HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of your Motorola Droid X2" where I am tapping recovery mode and the phone reboots - but when plugged into a wall charger, I get stuck at the dreaded dual core screen.
Since this happened, I have went into my ASR and selected wipe cache, wipe partition and also did the factory data reset while the phone was booted up.
Even in this state, which should be reset to factory if I understand this correctly - when I plug into a wall outlet, it still will not boot past the dual core screen.
Any ideas?
One question I have is, how do I wipe davilik cache?
Please help!!
Reinstall dx2bsr.apk Run it. Install recovery. Set recovery mode. Flash cm7 Then wipe all 3. Then while still in cwr flash ReRecoverydx2.cm7..... see my sigy link.

Hmm.. Well, I may need more detailed instructions.
I reinstalled dx2bsr.apk.
Ran it
installed recovery
set recovery mode
Then I am stuck. I am not sure what this means "Flash cm7 Then wipe all 3. Then while still in cwr flash ReRecoverydx2.cm7"
I am able to boot into the os now, but it still sticks at the dual core screen.
I'm sorry I a$$umed you were on Blur. No?
If ON cm7 you must install the cm7 (see the OP) bsr.apk.

to wipe dalvik cache you go into advanced and then scroll down to dalvik cache and then if you want wipe battery stats. That should work out of it all. If anything, sbf back to 2.3.4, root, and then retry with the OG bootstrap and see where that takes you
No matter what I do, various combinations of putting the stock bootstrap back in, it will not reboot while plugged in. It freezes on the dual core screen.
I have done a full wipe, it still will not boot while on AC.
Ideas?
You are trying to boot What Rom???
If you have already flashed cm7 you MUST allow it to boot ( do a stock recovery wipe if needed-stuck @ m) then install cm7bsr.apk.

are you running the bootstrap while plugged in? try untethering it, running BSR then plugging it in when your phone turns off.
What I want to accomplish is running CM7.
I am currently running 2.3.4.
This is so frustrating!
I am currently reading through the link in your sig, but that isn't clear enough either.
Sorry, I am not getting this, there is too much jargon I don't understand. LOL!

sorry, bro, are you booting into the bootstrap (BSR) while you're plugged into the wall outlet? If you are try to run BSR while not plugged into <the wall> and then once the phone shuts off [black screen] plug it in and then see if it boots into BSR.
You can boot to blur 234.
reinstall our old bsr and get it working.
This should get you to cwr.

Then flash cm7 and gapps then wipe all three than flash rerecovery.cm7
I would suggest SBFing back to stock 2.3.4 blur and then follow the steps in the OP for cm7. Seems your very setup is very screwed up at this point. Sometimes it is just easier and faster to do a quick SBF and start over. Just my two cents
Well through some combination of things, it looks like I am magically in CM7.
Thanks all!

yeah i completely understand. I like to make sure everything is PERFECT, thats just how my personality is. even if it takes more work I think its worth it.
Make a backup nandroid first and foremost.
If your stock you can download an app from market to reboot into recovery if you dont feel like pressing buttons at power up.
I installed the Rom Manager from google play store. When I run it, click on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", it asks me to confirm the phone model, but i don't Sgh-I747 on the list, not sure which one should be the right one. Any clue ? The closest one is Samsung t-mobile Galaxy S2.
I like the quick boot app
With that app I no longer need to know anything

Nandroid backup is a backup of your fully functional system as it were when you initiated the backup. This allows you to restore your device to the state it was in when you made the backup so long as you're still able to get into CWM recovery. It's always the first thing I do once I root and install CWM. Now I hope one of our talented devs can give us CWM on boot so we can get right back into recovery automatically in the event of going into a bootloop.
Rom Manager
If you have Rom Manager installed you can use the boot into recovery mode to get toe CWR. I did not flash Rom Manager, just used it to boot to recovery.
long time listener (reader), first time caller (posting). I too have heard bad things about Rom Manager, multiple devs have said "install at your own risk."

Your best bet is to always first read the description for the App and then comments (and not just the first three...click the More to see all comments). This will generally give you a great idea of what other users experiences on several devices and what results were experienced were. As with anything though it is at your own peril and risk to use Apps like you were interested in. But who knows you may run into something that works great. Generally though if you are here, you are already dabbling into customizing your phone/tablets and you should be just sticking with either of the Hardware methods (Vol up/down+Home+Power) to get into Recovery/Download modes or installing a ROM that supports extended menus and features to get to the function needed. I would steer clear of the app based installs...But that is of course my own opinion, and...its worked out pretty good so far for me! :good:

My previous phone was a GNex, and this app I linked to worked great, but I have not rooted my TMo GS3 yet because Im waiting for a bit to see if a solution to the flash counter comes, and CWM recovery seems to be a little hit or miss right now. Its still a very, very young platform. Good things are coming.

[Q] [Solved] i717 rooted but cannot flash any ROM

I have an AT&T Note that I rooted using the Odin method. I was running stock ICS and I know the root worked because I was able to install Google Now and it worked fine.
So I decided I wanted to try a different ROM. I just wanted to install bigfau's cleaned up stock rom found here. I put the zip file on my phone, booted into CWM, did a wipe, found the zip, said it installed fine and then I rebooted. At boot it just sits at the Samsung screen. I let it sit for 30 minutes, still nodda.
So I grab odin and flash back to stock ICS. Use the same method to root and I try a different ROM. This time the Pure Stock ICS from bigfau, same problem.
Odin back to stock, root, and I try parandoidandroid found here - same problem.
Do it all again and try a ROM from another site called HYFR Only One, which is a SGS3 based rom. Same deal.
The only thing I can get it to do is ODIN to stock. Am I missing something?
(I have another rooted galaxy note that I do not have any issues with flashing roms but it was already rooted when I got it.)

Rooted has nothing to do with flashing a ROM, having CWM or TWRP will give you the cap to flash a ROM.
I have used these Recovery types for flashing:
Touch CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584576
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647575
After you have CWM of some type ensure you are doing a clean wipe, this is how I perform my wipes:
1. Download to sdcard
2. Reboot to CWM-based Recovery
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe Cache partition
5 Go into advanced> Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. Go into> Mounts & Storage
a. Format /data
b. Format /system
c. Format /cache
Install rom & Reboot
After the first boot up let it sit for a few min to build...then do your set ups.
btw there is a Q&A section.

I apologize if I did not make this clear but I have Rom Manager installed and CWM was updated to the latest version. I would reboot into CWM, do a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik caceh, install rom and reboot. It would just sit at the samsung screen. I did not go into mounts and storage and do that but I will now. The process I use on my AT&T note is the same process I used on my Rogers note and I am able to install any ROM i want on my rogers note.
I have flashed roms probably over 100 times since my samsung captivate. I just didn't know if the note had another step involved. Like S-Off on HTC phones for example.
I have been using the standard version of cwm but I am trying the touch version now. Will update.

Animatechnica - It is my understanding that the bootloader is not locked on the Galaxy Note. I have not seen anything about unlocking the bootloader in any thread on the i717.
elry567 - do not have busy box installed - never saw anything requiring it to be installed. I will try that as well.
Well this time I got a status 7 error in CWM which can be a lot of different things. I am up to date on CWM, the rom I know works for the galaxy note (I am running it on my other one AND I have seen video of it working on an AT&T branded Note) so I don't know. I did a google search on the error and everything I found does not seem to apply. It is really starting to piss me off. Any help is appreciated.
Here is the video, sorry about my cam skills but you get the gist. I took this video with a i717r that is running the rom I want to install on the phone in the video.
Are you entering recovery with the phone off then using the buttons, or flashing from rom manager?
You should be doing it by the button method.

Seriously I do not know who you are but I could kiss you. I wonder why CWM wouldn't work? I have used it to load custom roms on just about every other android phone I have had.

Try using a wipe script and remember the kernel has to be flashed separately

How long does it stay on the bootscreen? Is it the "cyanogenmod" bootscreen, or the HTC one?
Sometimes it takes a while to boot up...I haven't had issues with any of my attempts, and I've done them "wrong" on purpose, to see if it makes a major difference. The only time I have issues is when I do it completely wrong and not flash the boot.img.
Are you installing other things? A different kernel as well, maybe? Might also want to try to redownload -- maybe you had a bad zip..?
That is a bit odd, but have you tried official nightly to see how it acts?

Sounds to me like you're not doing something right. Are you sure that you're flashing the right boot.img? Take us through an exact step by step of what you're doing....this isn't a problem that anyone else is having as far as I'm aware.

I had this problem when I was first trying to install CM10 as well. I used TWRP as my recovery, and was HTC Dev unlocked with HBOOT 1.15 (I used the RegawMOD one-click root method)
Note: I'm not going into complete detail on all of the steps, but I'll go into detail on where I made the mistake
1. Use adb/fastboot to flash the boot.img from the CM10 zip file. Reboot into recovery.
2. Select wipe, then do a factory reset, then a system wipe, then a cache wipe, and then a dalvik cache wipe (in that order). Stay in recovery.
3. Flash CM10. Stay in recovery.
4. Flash gapps. Stay in recovery.
5. Select Reboot > system
Step 2 is where I was messing up. I wasn't doing the factory reset (or wasn't doing the resets in the right order). After that, it did take awhile for it to boot up (5-10 minutes, maybe more). It only takes that long the first time it boots, every time since has been pretty quick.
Also, I got my instructions from a youtube video, but I couldn't find it after searching for 20 minutes. Although it's late, and my brain is fried, so I might have found it and just not recognized it.
Hope this helps.
(Also, I'd suggest doing ALL of the steps over again, from the top, not just the one that you think you might have missed. I don't think that all of the steps have to be done in order, but doing some of them out of order is what was causing my issue, so better just to start from the beginning)
when i download the zip i extract the boot.img to where ever im going to fastboot it
then i superwipe my phone
i install the nightly then the gapps
after i boot to bootloader and fastboot
the phone starts up but then if i ever reboot the phone it just hangs on the boot animation
i have done this proccess with every rom and no problems just with this one

Ok. My first rule of thumb is that if you are trying multiple roms, make sure you rename the boot.img accordingly. I change the name to correspond with the date and rom (like 915cm10boot.img). I don't get them confused and they're always right.
Download the rom.
Extract boot.
Boot into recovery and wipe everything that isn't your sd card. I always do them in order from TWRP, starting from the left top. I don't superwipe, so let's skip that for now.
Install your rom and your gapps. Rom first, gapps after.
Once that's done, navigate back to the main tarp and choose the reboot option, then choose bootloader.
Fastboot flash your renamed boot.img file.
Reboot device.
Do not...do not sync/restore apps from Google during the initial setup. Just do the bare minimum that you have to to get through setup.
Reboot.
report back.

[Q] NOOB: Help with removing Cyanogenmod 9 from i717

FIrst let me apologize for being a noob!! But I need help. I bought a used Note i717 that has Cyanogenmod 9 on T-mobile
installed and I am trying to get it back to the standard Samsung/AT&T/Android os. (Either Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich version)
I have been going dizzy reafing thread after thread and watching a hundred videos. I have no idea about this stuff but I know I dont want to pay the phone dr guys hundreds of dollars of I can learn myself.
I downloaded odin, and the tar file for what I believe to be ICS stock rom. What I am needing help with is what kernel file I need to download. Also, if I put theae files on the sd card and restore from it I am not sure which mode to go into?
I was hoping to find a step by step for a complete retard like me but so far my 4 days of searching have found nothing.. Can someone please please help??? Many many thanks in advance!!

Awesome. Thank you so much!!!
Probably a stupid question.. but I download Kies on my laptop and connect the phone to it correct?? Also will Kies get it from T-Mobile to At&t?
Yes download to computer and plug in, I think it will get it back to ATT but im not completely sure
Why even use kies? Just download a vanilla ics Rom that doesn't have the bloatware and flash it from cwm which the phone already has since it has a cm build loaded.
Please for the love of god don't run the ota ics.

Will installing just Vanilla ICS rom get rid of the Cyanogenmod9? The guy I bought it from was using the phone on T-Mobile, and I am on AT&T..
I guess vanilla is the wrong word since touchwiz is there but you get what im saying. Heres a link to a debloated stock Rom from one of our fine devs. Everything you want, nothing you don't.
http://d-h.st/Shk
1.Download to your sd card.
2.hold power button>restart>recovery
3.wait for phone to boot into recovery.
4.verify you can locate your Rom by selecting "install from internal sd card" and locating the zip file which will be located in "sd card>download".
5.if that is successful then go back to the first recovery menu and wipe system three times then wipe cache three times and then under "advanced" wipe dalvik three times.
6.Return to original menu and repeat step 4 but this time go ahead and tap the zip to install.
7.wait for install to finish and reboot.
Goodbye cm9, hello stock.
Fyi ditch samsungs keyboard asap. Biggest piece of **** I've ever seen. Its a bad joke.
Wipe and flash stock .

OK - so I followed all these instructions and it is rebooting to Cyanogenmod9 still....?? I don't see anything different but it said the install was complete. I think I just wiped my entire SD card... banging my head on the wall.
Maybe I would've been better to pay the pros the 200 bucks they wanted! lol
Is it going to brick the phone if I try it again?
Let me get this straight. You wiped the device and installed the Rom successfully and it still booted into cm9? There's no way. I don't see how that's possible. Not if the Rom installed successfully. Try again. Same procedure. The recovery is clockwork recovery right? The text should be blue
Not to be a jerk but it seems like you don't know much about this, just go back to stock, get used to the phone and then flash a rom

Why would you go back to att stock and then flash a rom? That's nonsensical, just flash the rom I gave you and be done with it. Still waiting to hear back as to whether or not you have cwm recovery installed

He's clearly doing something wrong.
Maybe someone should post clear, step by step directions for him to follow
Edit: I see you've already done this. Lol

Yeah. I AM indeed clueless and have never done anything like this before. That's why I apologized in advance for my ignorance. I do very much appreciate your help though!
I am going to try the step by step again and hope for the best!

Yes the recovery text is blue. Sorry about that. Oh and I didn't wipe out my SD card thank goodness so if my calculations are correct I am only 99.8% ignorant about this stuff.

If you do the following you should have no problem putting back stock ICS:
1. Factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache.
4. Install rom (i recommend putting it on external sd if you have one in)
5. Reboot. Done!
I also recommend using black star ICS, very good rom.

Yes and no. I think I figured out what I was doing wrong though..
I put the zip file in the internal SD instead of the external, and the file I was installing was not a complete version. (No idea what happened in the download but I am going to try again this morning and see if it's successful.)
Thank you SO much!! I'll let ya know as soon as I get through this attempt!
EDIT: I put the zip file on external SD. Did the triple wipe of data, cache and Dalvik. When in Clockworkmod - I select the zip file from the external SD and it tells me No files found. I tried remounting both SD cards and still "no files found".
