[Q] Internal SD card question - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Does the YG-P70 (US version) have a micro SD card inside it? I was thinking maybe upgrade the internal SD card capacity if it isn't too difficult. That will leave the external slot open if we really need more. I ordered a Samsung 32 gig microSD class 10 and it is the fastest card I have ever had (not easily found in most stores where I live). I bought it from amazon. I would have gottetn one on ebay but there are a lot of fake memory cards on ebay. You take a chance buying them on ebay unless you know the seller. If I could make that my internal card that would be very nice.

Yes, in a way. It is (simply put) built into the processor, so it is not removable. Your 32 gig will have to go in the external slot. However, there is a patch to make it look like your internal storage to android (swap the two), which you might want to check out.

[Q] what class micro SD card comes with the vibrant, and which one should I get?

I opened up the back but I didn't see any indicator of the class.
I think its a class 6. I gave mine away and replaced it with a bigger one, but I remember matching the class, and the one I have currently is a class 6.
its not like your doing apps2sd... why does the sd card class matter?
What matters is the speed that it reads the data, writes new data, does your media scanning when you boot up, and plays the files that you store there.
I believe it comes with a class 2 card. Most smartphones only come with a class 2 since they cost less.
Im also wondering wihch class sd card is good for vibrant. Of course I would want the possible fastest one.
Having said that, I just found a deal on micro sdcard and was wondering if this is the one compatible with vibrant. Here is the LINK
Would you guys recommend it?
Thanks.

Well, it seems that the Vibrant comes with a Class 6 16GB SD Card, so it wouldn't make sense to use a Class 4 8GB
I don't know if it's compatible with other Classes.

Where to begin.....
The Vibrant comes out of the box with 16 GB of available storage. You have the internal, which is mounted to the system board, and gives you the phones partitions as well as your 14 GB partition for your data. Then, there is the replaceable external sd card, which is only 2GB in size, and as Dr. B pointed out, and to my own error, it is a class 2 micro sd card. That is the one the OP is referring to.

32gb micro sdcard compatibility?

So anyone using a 32gb card in their gtab? I saw a thread about a 16gb class 10 from fry for a good deal, but seriously, a class 10? I'd be happy with a 32 class 4/6. I don't see the need for class 10 yet, but was wonderin what brand 32gb you guys using out there?
Links to where you bought would be great

I own this card and it works fine on the GTAB.

Micro SDcard - What goes on it?
I'm sure this is a "stupid" question from a newbie...
Last week I installed VEGAn 5.1.1 to the internal SDcard successfully using the instructions (thank you), because at the time I didn't have a micro SDcard. Now I do.
Should I re-install everything (CWM and VEGAn) to the SDcard or leave the card available for something else?
If I leave the installations on the internal SDcard, what will the micro SDcard be used for?
Thanks for your patience!
I bought a class 2 32gb Kingston on ebay for $43. It worked fine for me.
External card erasures
Has anybody had any problems losing data on the external card? I'm installing some movies on a 16G external card, and I've lost the data several times now.
It appears to lose the data when I mount/unmount the internal card for PC access (i.e. when I cable to my computer for file transfer). It seems something in the mount/unmount of the internal card corrupts the external card. I suppose a workaround would be to always remove the external card before cabling, but I shouldn't have to do that, should I?
I'm running VEGAn B5.1 if it matters.

Yes, it is a known problem. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895340
I put all of my music onto the SD card, as well as copying my backups there. (I use titanium backup, which makes a copy into the /sdcard directory, and then I copy it to the external card manually)
I have loaded a bunch of apps on my machine, and am no where near using up the internal memory, so I keep all the apps there. The one thing I am not doing right now is connecting to my work exchange server. I get a lot of email attachments from that channel, so I may use the external card as storage for email attachments, but I do not really need to do that right now.

USB, probably not. I don't know for sure, but probably the limitation will be FAT32. I'm not aware of gTab has NTFS modules, so that's probably going to be the limit for USB, or perhaps there is a 48bit addressing built into the hardware/kernel, then approx 137GB is a limit. Maybe somebody could try to hook up a harddrive into USB and see. But as for the SD card, there is an SD spec.
SD max limit = 4GB
SDHC max limit = 32GB
SDXC max limit = 2TB
generally speaking while there is a 4GB SD card, the implementation of 4GB SD card is spotty at best and some require you to have certain format to work, otherwise the card sometime fail to read/write. So, you won't see much of it, 2GB SD usually be the norm. As far as SDXC goes, it's fairly new, some SDHC controller do support it, but many don't. The pin for all of them are the same so they are backward compatible. I would generally avoid choosing random 4GB SD or 32GB SDHC. Do your research extensively on those card otherwise they may not work w/ your device.

16 internal 32 external minimum 64gb best IT says that in the manual on line. Right now 64gbSDHC are not being made. The manufactures have reserved that for SDHX. I rooted mine to ClocWork and TNT lite added a class 10 32gb SDHC. Have also formatted a Seagate 500GB GO Flex HDD usb 2.0 to Fat 32 496 GB and I load my Movies that are converted to mpeg 3 so I can carry it to work on slow days. I did all this because the stock rom/root kept dropping files and losing apps. I attached a full size media keyboard from Dell that has 2 Usb ports and it works fine also. Mouse did not. It is all carried in a case with a keyboard I got from Amazon. I just LOVE IT.

Trying to understand why a 32gb scandisk sdcard shows 7.3 gb used and says 1.3 gb free? Very odd. Any ideas?

First off You did not say in what device did You put your card to get that readings . Your cellphone , Mac , Windows pc .... It depends on card formatting . Maybe it was formatted so that only some OS can see it . Try using some cannon cameras or nokia cell phone to reformat it . ( I had a program on my PC that can recognize any formatting and create ANY partition on the card ) .
Im aware of the fake sd cards. Which is why I didnt buy it on ebay and purchased from amazon. Its just in the flyer. Have not partitioned or done anything to it. Titanium is installed but no auto backups are scheduled. Is there a market app that will show whats consuming the card, if anything?
Astro file manager shows the total capacity is 8.9gb. Time for a new card.

IF you are talking about the internal SD memory, you are only looking at one of 3 partitions.
The 32GB 3G and Wifi version has its internal memory split between 8GB of app storage and 20GB of “tablet storage,” which works like the SD card on an Android smartphone. On the 16GB Wifi-only model you get 4GB for apps and 9GB of tablet storage. Both models set about 8GB aside for the OS.
If you are talking about an external SSD card, then either it is incorrectly formatted or you are using an application that doesn't recognize large SD cards.
I highly recommend SDFormatter from Panasonic / Trendy for formatting SD cards. Far far better than Windows or Linux built-ins and can fix many woes. Free to download. Do not use it on your Flyer internal memory, formatting that will cause big problems.

A number of good points there. One thing, be absolutely sure you are looking at the external and not the internal SD if you go anywhere near partitions. re-partitioning the internal memory can perm-brick a device.
Formatting the internal memory is a no brainer. The 32 gb card clearly showed its max capacity. Will try to copy all content then reformat. It looked authentic when it came packaged.

I was wondering the same when the OP mentioned they bought from Amazon, whether it was from Amazon themselves, or another seller. I'd trust an SD card purchased from Amazon themselves.
After contacting Amazon, they immediately offered a full refund and noted "the wrong item was sent." Even though an independent seller sold the sd card, Amazon was responsible for the sale.

Sandisk "Ultra" 64gb SDXC (micro SD) card, Class 10, UHS-1

FYI... Sandisk is now selling an "Ultra" 64gb SDXC (micro SD) card that is rated Class 10 and is UHS 1. The "Ultra" tag refers to their class of cards that have 30MB/second read speed (unk. what the write speed is). Sandisk also has an "Extreme Pro" class of cards that have 95MB/second read speed, but the largest "Extreme Pro" in micro SDXC is currently 16gb. If you shop hard, you can find the 64gb "Ultra" SDXC card for less than $60 currently.
It's been previously reported that Razr supports SDXC cards, including 64gb (see this thread).
For anyone who might buy one, a word of caution. Put it in your Razr and format it there first before trying to use it on your PC. I'm not sure whether I received a defective card, or I somehow ruined my card by trying to format it to FAT32 on a Windows machine (using Paragon Partition Manager). I spent hours screwing with it before giving up and returning it to the seller.
I have the same 32gb version in my razr right now and it runs great. I assume the 64gb one wouldn't be any different.
Got mine for $23 on Amazon. Couldn't pass it up for that price.

It depends...
Is your USB adapter USB 2.0?
I typically use the SD Card slot with the adapter provided with the micro SD card.
USB for transfer unless you have a good adapter can be slower.

I couldn't mount it or format it. My RAZR kept saying it was damaged. So, I formatted it in my PC first and all is well.
If you're under Windows XP, you'll need to have a program to do this. I used EaseUS Partition Master which you can get for free at http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html.
So far, the card works great and it's nice to have more room for DLC and songs.

You can simply put it in the phone. No need to do anything beforehand. If it requires you to format, the phone will tell you to do so.
I've given up completely on trying to get this to work in my phone. The phone will recognize it as 64GB, but will freeze up on numerous occasions even if I'm not accessing it. Does no one else have the freezing issue? Running Flick 5.0 Tornado
So what's the concensus on this "extreme" cards' performance while in the phone? Are backups faster? Transferring files to/from a dekstop while connected via USB faster?

64GB flash cards use a different formatting (exFat) which is supported only by a few phones only when using stock ROM, you may be able to find a custom ROM for your phone that does support exFat*
otherwise 32GB will indeed be the maximum usable for your phone*
Normally 32 gb one could be fat32 ( this format has a limit of 32 gb only )

Not just size but what about R/W speed??
using the GT 2- 7 inch - with cm 10.2 nightly build - with a 32 class 10 external micro sd card with Link2SD and folder mount- so that all apps are installed and run from the external storage. Works great! So I thought of changing out the 32GB for a 64GB. I know or think I know that I should opt for a class 10 device but what about read and write speeds - I would think this answer would depend on the tabs abilities as far as maximum rates go. I cant find anything that post the rates at which the tab can transfer data to the external microsd and was wondering if a microsd card could even outperform the tab as far as R/W. In other words the tab can fulfill any max R/W rates so go for the best!
Thanks
Hi, as far as i know the p3110 is hardware limited to 32 GB microsd. So 64Gb won't work properly. As speeds go, i can't really tell. My class 10 reads and writes at maximum speed ( bit lower than indicated, but same speed in other devices).

The Tab2 is not 'hardware' limited to 32gb. It has to do with what formats your kernel supports. If you have a recent kernel with exfat support you are set.

I have had 4 or 5 different micro sd cards in my tab 2 , From class 6 to Ultra, they all work fine if formatted correctly. I would suggest not using that auction site, there a lot of fake cards there. These tiny little cards don't have the best durability record. Of the 6-7 I have had, a couple have gone bad before a year, but some are used heavily and still work after a year. The price for the 64gb cards is still too high for me. I usually have 15 to 20 movies on my 32gb card.:good:
I have 32 gig micro sd on my tab, without problem!
Hello Guys
Had my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7 (p3110) for over a year now running stock unrooted. One of the first things i did when i got it was grab myself a Sandisk Ultra 64gig SD card. Had to reformat the SD card before it would work. From memory i used a tool on my PC called mini partition tool to reformat it. Been working like a charm ever since.

I have a Samsung GT-P3110 8gig tablet.
The tablet has 8 gig internal memory and the max is quoted at 32gig.
Can I put a 32 gig micro SD card in?

Just dont forget to get a high class SD card such as class 4 if you will be reading from the extSDcard alot! it would be really helpfull,or if you will use it to boost RAM and such
For best results use a class 10 32 GB SD card and haven't tried it yet but it more might support 64 GB too to prevent slowdowns a class 10 one is the best
64gb SDXC
Hi. I ordered a 64gb sandisk ultra plus microSDXC card. I just want to know what I will have to do to make it compatible with my Tab 2 rooted on GB27 4.2.2. I couldn't get the SDHC as the site was sold out, so I ordered the SDXC. Am I going to have to format it through my PC? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
