Sony mobile UK - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Anyone know what the deal is with Sony UK. They seem to with the Xperia S ignore so many updates. It was the same with gingerbread and now uk users are still on .453 despite there being two minor updates since then. Looks like they've almost given up on the S despite it being their best selling phone.
This never happened with the x10 and I don't think it did with 2011 line up.
What's the deal with them one wonders

The SI numbers list is quite a mish-mash of versions: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/223759
I would have thought a vendor would want to get fixes out to customers as soon as practicable so customers feel good about their products and support aren't having to keep on dealing with the same reported issues. I can understand there might be a backlog in testing by carriers but when it's the generic version in a major market like the UK I can't see what is special / different that would cause them to do this.

Perhaps the carriers have tested the latest firmware and found that the deleted emails bug, proximity sensor bug, quick launch bug, text message bug, "insert name here" bug are all still present, and so wonder what the point is.

Even nothing for generic kits. I wonder if all these bugs are present in the Xperia t build. I tested one out yesterday and it seemed snappier than my s. That could be because that's a stock phone with no user apps or data on there. I don't believe it's the processing power because in reality there's little difference between 1.5 ghz s3 and s4.
Such a shame Sony have failed to deliver a good ics build. Software development is really their Achilles heel. They must improve drastically here or 2013 will just be another year of missed opportunities.
I should add that I eat wasn't that impressed with the T. The S is in my opinion a better looking phone. You shouldn't underestimate the touch of class that is the transparent strip even if it wasn't very functional by default.
I also felt the S's display was better. The colors seem to stand out more on the S. The T has the marginally better processor and camera but the S is better in other respects. The S with an s4, ics out of box and a bigger battery would have definitely beat the one x and given the GS3 a run for its money.

I wondered this in the past. BUT there is some good news - you're likely not missing anything. :victory:Those tiny updates are usually region dependant, they have tiny modifications that are relative to a specific country or few countries, so it's not relevant to us if it's not released to us, in this case. Plus, as a tiny point, such a small update can only have the smallest of changes. :good:

I had data cut out problem with the initial ICS rom. I was so sick putting with it (Sony support was useless), I had to manually update to .45 rom to fix this problem. I'm not happy and my next phone won't be from Sony for sure.

I do wonder what's going with the generic UK versions...
Both myself and my gf have Xperia S's and I'm on Three UK whilst she's unbranded (generic UK), so I can compare directly the differences in update speeds.
I get all of the updates quicker than she does (despite carrier testing), and I'm on .45 now whereas she's on .453 and I got my first ICS build a good few weeks before she did.
Perhaps Sony have a deal with the carriers that says that carriers can release the updates first?

It might have something to do with the poor sales performance off contract. Maybe Sony UK is saving its bandwidth for the branded kits lol. Strange policy to follow as if you bought the phone in the first few weeks of its release, it probably was generic because by then the networks hadn't put their stuff on it.
All in all I'm unlikely to buy Sony next year as I'm really beginning to get really fed up of this poor poor crap. I'm actually hoping they skip JB because I fear that's the only way they''ll be current with their 2013 line up next march

Update for tmo pushed to June. Thoughts?

So I just saw this:
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/04/t-mo...-ice-cream-sandwich-upcoming-device-launches/
Looks like it will be pushed back till june.
That makes no sense since this seems to be works so well.
I wonder if HTC leaked that purposely to test people or if it will change again.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks again to the leaker at tmo.
Thank you for choosing to force integrity down the throat of the sleazbags in the marketing department...
Thank you for pulling out the rug from under the self aggrandising pompus fool executives who think that they can twist the arm of their elite level customers..
To the the executives that may be reading this.. Above is the list of people to fire.. Unceremoniously and with a grand parade, wander them around the office as an example of douchebags using and idea older than moses and calling it innovative.. Rather than the insult to customers it truly is

It does not, the ics available for the t989 is from a leak from the skyrocket. Due to that there was issues with rotation which were fixed but there is still missing features like wifi calling, and a kernel to develop cm9 etc from that.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. I have a feeling T-Mobile is holding off on the update so the One S can have the spotlight for another month. They probably figured that people would buy it since Ice Cream Sandwich is a big selling point.

These two tie in together. HTC wants to nail down an update schedule that the One S will have ICS for a while, gathering in sales, while the other phones will have to wait. Also, T-Mobile stores list our phone as 1.5 ghz dual-core, they don't really specify that it's produced by Snapdragon or that it is an S3. Clearly, it would look bad that the One S and the Amaze have the same specs in a simpler manner, without going into specifics.
Some of you folks act like your phone is broke or completely ancient because it isn't rocking the current OS.
There is a leak for ICS, so what is the problem? If you want it so bad, download it and be on your merrily happy way. If not, go spend monies you probably don't have on a device that runs on it. Complaining over and over on something you can't control is beyond rhetorical.
Not like T-Mobile has ever been fast with the updates. This is nothing new......be glad if it comes out in June.

My Amaze (bought in December) has multiple issues that have not been resolved on three separate handsets, and half a dozen factory resets. I'm not "whining" about not getting ICS sooner, I'm whining about not getting FIXES after way too long a wait.
The last word I've heard was, "we're working on a fix," "HTC is aware of the problem," while I continue to wait, and wait, and wait. Like the poor refugees in CASABLANCA
I'm willing to wait longer for solid fixes, and (crosses fingers) a replacement of Sense 3.0 with the much-improved 4.0. Frankly, I've gotten tired of factory resets and handset replacements that flush my progress and scores from games that I've paid for. It's not a requirement that my games are intact on a phone, but jeez, it got old after 12 weeks of ownership of this top-tier phone to be told, "don't install any apps, just use the phone as shipped."
I just feel that I've been made to wait through serial postponements while HTC and T-Mobile trumpet a newer, slightly better line of phones. Clearly, people who've already bought an HTC don't get as much respect or thought than the new customers out there. S'okay, if the ICS update arrives and doesn't fix the problems, I'll know what to do. Root, flash, or flip and get another brand. T'is a pity that modern manufacturers would rather disappoint their established customers while trying to attract new customers. It's a model that has destroyed many companies in the past.

So, I've been using my HTC Incredible for about a year, year+1/2. Keeping it as up to date as possible, never activating it, etc, etc. It's like my little pocket computer. But, I think it's reached it's limit. I need something new, preferably something with a fully functional Paranoid Android rom, or a big enough screen for a tablet rom/CM9 with a low DPI acceptable.

Under $200 off contract will be tough - probably the cheapest top end phone is the Galaxy Nexus at $349 direct from Google. On contract and you should be able to get something like the One series or the Galaxy s3.

I have two Nexus S phones that I still love! As long as Google (or Cyanogenmod) keep pushing out the latest updates for them and they run well, I'm going to stick with them. JB on is way more "buttery" on this phone than ICS. It's like a new phone with every update!
Doesn't meet with your screen size requirements... but at least where I live, $200-ish won't get you anything that great without a hefty contract.

Everything works, and it isn't a refurbished phone. As far as editing the build.prop I'm not sure about that possibility to run tablet ICS. The official ICS release should come soon. The leak we've seen has created some issues that are being worked out. Also, the bootloader is locked which means the inability to flash kernels. Don't know if that's a deal breaker for you or not. There's a dev working on a brute force script to hit the BL with but thats still in the works.

[Q] Sick of delays

So this is actually my response to another thread, but I thought I'd see what other S2 owners think by putting it out there, I can't be the only one who feels like this.
"Yep. Day 1 I'll be ordering my nexus 4.
Had it with Samsung's **** support. I remember when I got my HTC Hero back in 2009 and got so pissed off with HTC about their outright lies about updates to that phone, lies lies, delays, more lies. I'll never buy a HTC phone again, assholes. Now the same thing has happened with Samsung. Oh don't get me wrong, when I first got my S2 it was great, apart from the huge amount of battery draining bloatware from SAMSUNG themselves, the annoying and crap autofocus on the camera when recording which went unfixed. Oh and now the half-assed (and delayed) ICS update. Seriously who the fk releases consumer firmware with buggy and slow lock screens, and 'developer options' in the settings? Did ****sung even test this before they released it? Why should it be down to people on XDA to fix problems? Why should people on XDA be bringing us OS updates? And now we are on some old version of ICS, a dangerous and unfixed (w/r to security) version of Android. Great fun! Oh but don't worry they said they'll update this phone to JB in October....oh no wait now its sometime in November...wait ok now it's 'before 2013'...oh and it'll be JB 4.1...already outdated.... Really?!! This is HTC Hero round 2.
Tldr f*** Samsung, f*** htc, f*** all these stupid companies and their buggy outdated skins. Nexus from now on."

If you think Samsung give two knobs of goat **** about a bunch of crybabys on a forum, you're very much mistaken. Samsung care about the 95% of people who use their phones 'normally'.
Your solution if you don't like that - buy another brand of phone.

[q] docomo lg optimus g l-01e

HI guys.. I would like to ask regarding the LG OPTIMUS G JAPAN Variant..once we will have some XDA touch with our LG OPTIMUS phones.. will the Japan Variant (DOCOMO LG OPTIMUS G L-01E, AT&T and the INternational version will be different from each other?
no one cares about my thread...so sad
I don't think anyone knows at this point
yup..i think you have a point..thanks dude...anyway, i emailed LG already.hoping for a good and satisfying reply and the possibility to unlock bootloaders.. CHEERS!!1
Japan version is waterproof afaik. I am also looking for international usability and sim lock thing...
regards.
yup waterproof and dustproof.. seller told me that you can take pictures/video underwater about 1m.LOL... but what i liked was the SD Card Support.. problem is it has a TV Antenna..but its ok... Philippines uses the same ISDB Standards with JAPAN.. but what I really like is the ROOT..still no news about possible Rooting for the Japan VErsion... and my LG OG will come still next week..hahaha
Docomo lg l-01e optimus g
Think you bought from the same ebay seller as me Chaco lol. But I do know one thing I have been searching high and low and looked thru all threads and could not find much info about the Japan version, none the less anyone working on a recovery or root for it. Some info would be great Already have this thing bought and never thought about looking to see if the bootloader was locked. Mistake I will not make twice lol.
hahaha.. gene..looks like he is the only one seller on ebay for the japan variant..dont know about your place (if we are different) but its seems it ill be ages for us here to have the international version..so i cant wait..thats why i ordered it immediately..hahaha.. nonetheless...its not really a lost game here.. compared the specs.. we have sd support for the latest sdxc cards and removable battery (2200maH!!!) and not to mention the ability to take picture and vids under 1m water..haaahaa..cheers to us...
besides you and me..looks like we are not alone as the L-01E users. why not (if possible) make this as our hang out for the L-01E users? who knows..maybe one of us can find something or help each other out..
FYI// sir thecube is planning to help us..though they said they will do it on variant orderly basis..and looks like we are the last...so we are still not at a lost here... anyway..its ony a few weeks right?
Thats right weeks or months no matter im enjoying the phone, the locked bootloader tho maybe a bad thing foe us lol. Not only are we 2 of few who has this phone lol we have it with a locked booloader. Lol. Either way between you and myself maybe thecubed will help. As i told him i will donate if he is going to do so. Just sucks that such a powerful and nice spec filled smartphone has to sit on the back burner till then. Off toppic tho the docomo bloatware on this is outragous there is way to much stuff on here from them, including rhw antanna bahahahabaha

yup..cannot find the right reception though here in the philippines for the mobile tv app..though the philippines and japan uses the same japan single band for mobile dtv..
yup..so much bloatware.abd without root access..we cannot delete any of them...
dont know when will our phone sit in the corner for now..we will see..
so you just use the normal home launcher? dont know what to customize..hahaha...

Yea theres tons of bloatware but i went in task manager and disabled it all which in turn hided it from the application folder so that was great. As for the tv, im in canada so it dont work period. I mainly bought this one for the water proofing and the removable batter tho so.
But i do have one good question for you. Is the camera only accessable to you on the lock scree? I cant seem to access the phone or the text messaging apps? Its faded out only the unlock and camera apps are touchable.
Sent from my L-01E using xda app-developers app
hmmmm... i used the go locker... and there is only the unlock, messaging and phone (call) app... when i was on the default docomo launcher... i usually use the normal TAP unlock. to bad we didnt have the special LG unlock style..the 3d watery effect..
i bought this phone merely because no availability here for now in the philippines...and ofcourse the sd support, removable battery, water proof..and believing about japanese standards.. too bad though we dont have the special Back Glossy feel that the other variants have
so even though you have your own model there..but you preffered the docomo variant
still i liked our phone though..and if in the future there will be dev support..then everything will be perfect!!!
really? i will try disabling some other apps too...
hope other L-01E users will try read with our forum as well
sorry for the double post..cant edit via xda app...
do you have simtool kit?
Sent from my L-01E using xda app-developers app

Just declaring my interest - I've been using my L-01E for over 1 month and loving every bit of it, except my qualm that its LTE is not usable in Hong Kong.

hmmmm..havent checked it Philippines yet...hope it will be ok
i really thought that once you have 4G and the country is also 4G capable..there will be no problems...sorry for being such a noob.. but all in all..in my opinion.. L-01E is the BEST OPTIMUS G there is...so i believe L-01E is by far the best in the market (downside though is the ROOT and CUSTOM capability..for now)
L-01E
I have been using this phone for a week now. And all I can say is wow!... Its really worth my time waiting for it.... I really hope that I can find a cover like that of the AU's (the white ones)
this is insane, there is like no development going on for the L-01E at all. this frustrates me and makes me believe i bought the wrong smartphone now.

Should I buy Motorola Atrix 4G or Sony Xperia Sola?

Need some advice; should I buy the Motorola Atrix 4G or Sony Xperia Sola? I plan to use it with Straight Talk AT&T.
I'd go with the xperia if you have no other option. The Atrix has better specs but you'll at least start out with ICS on that and likely get JB later on. Moto has all nut abandoned the Atrix and aside from a small patch coming soon it has little life left before it's ancient history.

Interesting, so you have the Atrix but you'd rather have the Sola?
I posted the same thread in the Sola forum and 2 voted for the Atrix while 2 voted for the Sola. I suppose it's a toss-up

No, I'd rather have a phone that can be upgraded. I love the Atrix but for 'financial reasons' it's been ditched by it's manufacturer offering virtually no further support.
Although there is a slight possibility of an agreement whereby we may be able to get source for the upgrades, there won't be any official upgrades. To me there is no excuse for such poor support of a device. Particularly when you consider far more complex computers receiving updates sometimes a decade or more after it's release. I do give at least some respect (even though I shouldn't) for the fact that they dug themselves a hole to support far too many devices at once with a runaway release of newer ones each year which makes it logistically impossible to support them.
Get neither, wait for Motorola X. Should be as cheap as Nexus 4 if rumors are true.

Definitely not the direction I'm going in. Seems a bit too much like rewarding them for failing to deliver on the updates and gives them more incentive to do the same thing all over again knowing that people will still keep buying regardless of how much they fail to deliver.
Matrix is a good phone Motorola threw it away I got HTC Onex on Att bench mark stock 7600 never got close to that with. Atrix

absolutely SONY,MOTO had lost customer‘s trust.
Xperia Sola.
Sony or Samsung.
Xperia Sola. It have much better support, plus, it will get ported stock JB.
If you seek for a latest update, minimal usage(surfing, text, mainstream games)get the Sola. Overall experience, I'd go for Atrix eventho it got left behind with Gingy..
The Atrix have tons of awesome hardware (fingerprint sensor etc) , nice build quality and better audio. If you're much of a customizing and not afraid of unlocking your phone, go for Atrix
Don't buy an operator branded Sony handset! Unbranded ones are great, and very well supported but going by my experience with a friend's Xperia U, branded handsets are locked down like Fort Knox.
Why not an atrix2?

Motorola isn't the only company that has screwed someone over. Anyways the Motorola X is going to be the first phone released with Key Lime Pie. So technically it's a Nexus without its branding, like the Xoom which got updates all the way til 4.1

They may not be the only company that screwed anyone over, but for a number of people, they are the one that made the device that people are currently stuck with no updates and the only reward for brand loyalty is mixing some shards of glass into the lube on your next purchase. What incentive do I or anyone else have to take another chance on Motorola?

I'm sure the AT&T Motorola X will come especially locked to prevent you accidentally installing a 'software update' if such a thing even exists. and for those who like to dig deeper, a special feature to shoot you in the face if you try to unlock the bootloader.
No thanks, never again. I won't give the company any money on principal, even if the next Nexus is a Motorola, and it's otherwise great.
That's why I'm going with the T-Mobile unsubsidized plans, and if it's as cheap as the Nexus 4 unlocked I'm going to get it.

Sad Motorola boycotter is sad to hear that XDA members will not be boycotting crappy companies who need to apologise for their crappy ways and sort this situation out by releasing kernel source at the very least.
They'll do it again, I'm sure. Don't get burned. I mean, they promised to change their ways just before cancelling the Atrix update.

Agreed. However, I was just looking at AT&T's current offerings, with the exception of a couple devices, their Android lineup is the most underwhelming thing I've seen since my LG Vu.
Edit:
T-Mobile's lineup doesn't look much better.
