Keep my 727 skyrocket or trade for 717 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So... I work for a guy who bought a note new 4 months ago and his has a green line running top to bottom on the right of the screen. AT&T told him he would have to pay for repairs. (Which I think is bullcrap)

He has always loved my skyrocket and he wants to trade me even up for it. Now I could buy a screen and fix the note for around 200 as I can easily do the work myself or I could just keep my faithful skyrocket.
What to do, what to do....
I put cm10 on the note last night. He left it with me for the weekend. I do like it but I don't know.

That's odd that att wouldn't warranty it...the factory warranty doesn't cover physical damage but they do cover malfunction, I'm assuming it didn't get wet or dropped. Any way, if its going to cost you $200 to fix the screen than I would just sell the skyrocket and pay the difference for a new one. You can even early upgrade and get the phone for around $450. I don't buy damaged phones unless its for backup purposes.

Yeah I'm going to trade him. I do like this phone and I don't have much in the skyrocket. Skyrocket has some nicks in the screen and some edge trama. Its not pristine like this note is. Except for the green line its perfect.
Just need to get a screen now and a good case.

Try samsung. When it came to dead pixels on monitors and TVs, samsung was one of few companies that had a no dead pixel policy. I would contact samsung warranty support to see if they will repair the phone.
He could also contact ATT again and talk to a different rep. I find it hard to believe that they will not repair the phone under warranty.

That's what I'm saying. Before I had the note I had the infuse, AT&T warranted my infuse 4 different times within the first 8 months. They say if they receive your phone for warranty and its physically damaged than they will charge your account. I said "well, if your talking a nick or a scratch than I'll keep mine and sell it" they said, "minor damage no big deal, only big damage like a busted screen" etc.

I plan to see if I can get it fixed by them. If not then I'll fix it myself.
I love this phone. Even with the green line its better than the skyrocket and its hard to beat.

edit: To me, the text on the bottom looks a little fake. It's a different font and it looks slightly slanted.. might be me though.
I got that email myself today, funny thing is, I cancelled my preorder last week since i was about to hit 30 days to return the giftcard and once the buyback program was off the table I was out of there
I just saw this on androidandme and came here to post it....
I sure hope this is correct. The font difference doesn't bother me...I've worked for companies that have different fonts in the same sentence. Some people don't care, especially on internal docs.
What I wish it didn't say was "release dates subject to change".
I'm still going to keep hoping this phone comes out next week. I've been tempted to dump VZ but honestly, I'm worried the other companies service is going to be sub par.....and the only other phone that interests me is from Samsung....which also makes me not interested. LOL

I ported my number to AT&T to get the Inspire 4G. AT&T is sub par, at least in my area. I have until 3/22 to port back to Verizon so I'm hoping too its 3/17.

Resolution bothered me a lot; everything was super small. Plus, the screen was long and skinny and I wanted something more proportional like the TB or Inspire.
I got an email Best Buy about my preorder today as well. This is the first email from Best Buy since I preordered one month ago, it must be a good sign.

Just saw a commercial for the thunderbolt. First ive seen. Signs seem to be pointing at a release fairly soon.
I would put money on the official announcement coming from VZ tomorrow if the 17th is indeed going to be the day. Not a lot of money....gotta buy accessories.

The phone is launching on the 17th, there is no doubt about it. Its official, and an annoucement should be made tomorrow morning.
P.S. Some stores are opening at 7 AM. I would call your local store to double check. If you're in the LA area, pm me and I'll give you the info to the stores that I know of that are opening early Thursday.
God I hope that the 17th actually sticks! I love my Evo but Sprint service sucks at my job and we have a Verizon cell of some kind there with antennas all throughout the building so I'm dying to be able to make the switch now that they'll have an awesome 100% hackable phone!

TEP for $4/mo ???

I Got my Evo 3D activated about a week ago and I didn't originally buy the insurance (TEP) but I am planning on buying it now. However, I checked to make sure it wasn't already added, and I found this.

Insurance for $4. Is that correct? And if not, do you think I will still be covered?

if its a discounted code or if its just the code for ESRP (which doesn't make sense the way its worded there)
could be an old code, a new code, something you had on there for a while maybe, or something they put on cause they get paid on it and scammed you.
What I can tell you, is that to my knowledge (there is a $4 warranty plan) but It doesn't cover everything that T.E.P. does ...but that **** does say T.E.P. right there so I'm stumped, call and check..simple answer.
Code is TEP4, you are good to go... I have it on all my phones.
You can one or the other for 4 each. Or both for a dollar off...
Interesting. I guess I'll just leave it and hope it works.

im connected to sprint chat checking to see if i can use the TEP4 thing....those responses about it on here seem a little detail lacking
the rep has never heard of it before, but is looking into it
will edit when i figure it out one way or the other
edit: yeah they have never heard of that...said there are no promotions
Hopefully I can switch from the $7. TEP to this one.

Quick search reveals that tep4 is an SOC code used by Sprint reps to give customers a TEP discount. It may have originated shortly after TEP increased from $4 to $5(1/2005 according to my bills) as a way to appease people who complained about the increase. Historically, increases were $5-$6 in 1/2006 and $6-$7 in 2/2007. Fyi, word is TEP is to increase from $7 to $8 July 24th.
Evidently, the code is still active, but finding a rep who will apply it is the big challenge. I might try it myself.
I wish Sprint would go with someone other than Asurion...I've had bad experiences with them.

They never have phones in stock...I had to wait a week to get a replacement Evo, only for it to have issues. Then I had to wait ANOTHER week to get a new one.

I have never had issues with Asurion. They have been nothing but a pleasure to do business with besides, not having the Evo's in stock is not necessarily their fault. The same would happen with any insurance company Sprint went with. The demand for the Evo was even larger than Sprint and HTC had imagined so every one was out of stock on them and they were on back order everywhere.
Let's hear some success stories getting this code added!

Called twice they said no.
I'm not even sure how it got added in the first place.
$4 TEP is insurance only though. Which means only stuff you pay $100 deductible on, so you don't get the warranty and in store repairs of the $7 TEP. So if that is important to you keep the $7 TEP.
EDIT: I may have been wrong. I know TEP used to incorporate two services the insurance and the in store repairs, but since this is being called TEP in the system it may be the same thing as the $7 one but at a discount. just a word of warning because at one point in time you were able to buy the in store service and insurance separately with Sprint.
Actually no to all being a sprint rep you have a choice of service and repair for 4$, equipment replacement for 4$ od both for 7 soon to be 8$

There was a shortage of evo's at the time. Even service centers suffered/suffering with a 3 to 5 day wait on exchanges. i can tell you first hand of the many claims I've filed for customers, its always a smooth transaction.

[Q] Do Sprint Reps Have to Activate the Phone at the Store?

This will be a whole new contract with Sprint if that matters. I really wanted this phone but we weren't due for an upgrade so my girlfriend's mom is taking my place on my girlfriends contract and I will be starting my own. When we activated our phones, the rep did it on the spot and since it was my first Android phone I was not aware that it's not advisable to update the phone if you want root.
I know there wont likely be an OTA to break root by the time I get my phone (hopefully...) but in general, I like the feeling of opening a brand new device and being the first one to open it and set it up. Do any Sprint employees (or anyone else with the knowledge) know if they have to activate it on the spot?
Another question regarding in-store purchases: If I take the phone out of the building and later on I find an imperfection (stuck/dead pixels, raised non-flushed glass or any other issues people have been noticing) am I able to swap it out without penalty within 14 days? Would it be rude to check the device in front of the employee before signing contract?

Hoping it's the same at actual Sprint stores (I have to do it through them to get faster corporate discount through my company -- another reason I couldn't pre-order on a non-existing line).
I don't know how many people actually do this in their stores so I don't want to seem like a demanding jerk "let me see the phone before I sign" and "I don't want the phone opened, I can activate at home".
Main reason I want to inspect the phone is because currently, with my Evo3D I'm stuck with a dead pixel and while it is not a big deal to some, it is very very irksome to me.
I don't think Sprint reps have to activate it at the store, but I do believe this is the normal policy. When I got my EVO 4G, the Sprint rep unboxed and activated it in front of me. It was launch day, and they did the same thing for all of the other people waiting in line.
Inside Sprint Now also published some internal memos on everything Sprint employees are supposed to cover with the customer before they leave with their new EVO LTE. They're encouraged to unbox it, activate it, offer to transfer contacts, walk you through basic features, etc.
Just politely ask to handle it yourself and you should be fine.
I set my phone up via hands free activation after I accidentally turned the phone on when I got it.

Bought 3 evoLTE's. 2 I activated from home (but ended up having to contact sprint thru their online chat - something about the data plan changing) and one i took into the store.
I found that the knowledge of the Sprint reps varied widely. First phone was done in 10min. 2nd phone took 40min, lots of hassle, manual programming in service menus and manual prl update. 3rd was about 20min at the store.
No one at the store had even seen one yet when I brought it in. All the reps suddenly had nothing better to do that make sure my phone got activated...so they could play with it. It was quite amusing.

Same here about Best Buy.
I always tell them I'm very ocd about people touching stuff I'm going to buy and they just give me the box, take my money and I'm out in 5 minutes. Hands free activation and it's all set up and re-downloading my apps from market in 5 more minutes.

instore preorder process sucks

I really hate that verizon told me that they were shipping my phone to me via fed ex even though I went into the store to preorder. I now have to wait for fed ex to drop it off so I am on their time until it arrives. why have a store that just makes me order it the same way I can do it myself. I would much rather have the phone in my hands at 8am when they open on wednesday morning not 2pm when the fed ex driver gets done eating lunch.
other things that irritated me about the preorder experience.
1. they dont accept Cash
2. they tried to make me sign the ipad for my receipt... I made them print me one and give me a pen (just to be a prick more than anything)
3. $30 upgrade fee? wtf is that... once I get the phone I'm going to call and get that removed since its a bogus charge for a 13year VZW customer... you dont even need to call and activate anymore all I need to do is swap my sim from my nexus and put it in the DNA so I'll ask them what the $30 covers cause its not VZW store employees who are accepting my order and helping me "activate" or set up my phone which they shipped to my house.

I'm not sure why you would pre-order today as you won't get it for 2 days, if you wanted to pick it up at 8AM in store why didn't you just wait until tomorrow and go in and get it? I never heard of anyone pre-ordering in store.
Also, Verizon has been charging the $30 upgrade fee for a while now, but only if you buy it subsidized.

I'm the same way, I always go to the store to order new phones and accessories.
My question though was why you drove to the store to pre-order it when you could have just driven there tomorrow morning instead and know that you can just pick it up then and there.

hey guys, here is the problem...
about a month ago i upgraded to a s4 out of pure necessity (my nexus died on me)
so i went to best buy, bought my phone and didn't think anything of it.
then a couple weeks later the One got announced and i had been waiting for it for months so i decided i was going to sell my s4 on swappa and use that money to get my one...i just got an email today from the guy complying about a sticker on the inside of the plastic back that according to him, best buy only puts on their refurbished phones...
anyone else have this sticker??

The picture doesn't work. But if you knew you bought it new than you should call bestbuy and tell them that they sold you a refurbished one but I doubt that they did.

Mine is new from Verizon with the sticker on the back door. They all have those. The att one says att on the back cover. The T-Mobile one says T-Mobile. The s3 and note 2 also have these stickers
