[PLEASE STICKY] Software Update 2.17.605.2 FAQs - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Verizon recently released update 2.17.605.2 to our phone. It updates our phone from Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, and from Sense 4.0 to 4.1. The official changelog is here.
You can defer the update if you catch it in time, but it appears you have approximately 5 minutes from the time it downloads until it installs. It appears you also can't defer it more than 5 days into the future. You can also attempt to Force Stop the HTC DM app, but not all results have been effective.
ROOT
Andybones has obtained S-OFF with the help of Team unlimited.io. It will hopefully be released soon for the rest of us after finishing testing.
Other known improvements:
Tabs button in the default browser.
Youtube now has its own association in Settings -> App associations.
Expected but missing features:
Our phone did not receive the built-in feature to change the Recent Apps button to a Menu button, as all other phones with Sense 4.1 have.
ISIS may or may not be available to you, depending on where you live. Supposedly it only works near Austin, TX and Salt Lake City, UT.
Bugs:
The default Messages app lags severely when switching between the tabs at the bottom.
Your HBOOT may now say *** TAMPERED *** at the top, despite you never having unlocked your phone. It does not seem to cause any ill-effects, but probably voids your warranty.
This list will be updated if necessary. If you have any questions, ask.

Good call.

Not sure why such a minor update would warrant a sticky. This thread probably has 72 hour shelf life.

Well, seeing as the update has been out for over 72 hours, and people are still asking the same questions over and over again, I think it does.

Any idea if HTC will eventually give us the Menu option over the Recent Apps? Recent Apps is useless.

when s-off is out (soon id say) you can flash mods to the stock rom you run for it w/o having to flash a full custom rom (or just a stock modified rom)
wont void your warranty (well it will..but) as you dont need to register w/ htc when you soff (unlock dev unlock), so if you need to exchange/sell phone, you can go back to s on easily (well usually, depends what is released)

Nit is 100% correct, we should be able to turn back to S-ON for security purposes and other reasons.
here would be how
1)donwload and run an RUU for the most current build
2)open a cmd window. plug in phone, charge only mode, usb debugging on.
3)run the following:
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
fastboot reboot-bootloader
*verify you are locked s-on
fastboot reboot

confirming missing ISIS in latest OTA
Well, since I received the OTA yesterday for 2.17.605.2, I've searched everywhere on the phone and I can't find ISIS. I'm assuming it wasn't part of my OTA which I've been able to find only limited info on, that VZ might have removed it from the latest OTA. The OP mentions certain areas that might be affected so I'll just mention I'm in SE Michigan for what it's worth.
(EDIT --> Go to Settings, select More, then select NFC to 'allow data exchange when the phone touches another device' and the NFC feature will be enabled. The 'N' Symbol for NFC will appear between next to the 4G LTE symbol at the top of the screen.)

Interesting, seeing as I also have a new phone I just received from Sprint. Can anyone confirm that the unlock_token.bin I already have will work on my replacement? I'd do it myself but I am unable to currently. Also, does this mean HTC wouldn't know you were rooted, seeing as you didn't unlock through the site?
Thanks guys

Yeah - I am like -c'mon avaliability?!
I am a network admin and it is INCREDIBLE how long they can keep this site down and getting away with it.
We have contracts that state data availability on similar high-visited websites within 12 hours at any costs (if it is a software error which I assume is the case we usually provide "back to online" state within 2-3 hours). 12 hours is basically if the "house burns down". So I guess HTC burned down...

Yup, though the "funny" thing is that even it's giving me very many kind of errors (mostly that they are under maintenance, try again later), I have now exceeded my limit hehe.
Error Code: 300.
Error Reason: Request for unlock exceed limit.
Tried to send Htcdev a tweet on Twitter and see if I can get any response from them there.

Well I have two evo3ds to root today so hopefully there back and running cause i have an appointment at 6pm and that's 5 hours away. HTC is screwing with my business. I make 25 every time I root a phone add ten for flashing roms. Now I'm out 70 bucks if they're not back up in five hours.
If they come back on for anyone will you post here so I know if its worth the drive to go pick up the phones to root.
Gotta say I'm happy with my boot 1.40
Down since last night
I started trying to unlock my shiny rezound Friday 7pm est. Received the same message. Sux.

HTC Bootloader Unlock

I take no credit for anything. but just wanted to post this here in case there is something involved that will help the Dev's in getting the bootloader unlocked faster. Apparently this should work on any device that can use HTC's unlock method.
DEV's, maybe there is something here or atleast this guy who created would be able to help......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24370319#post24370319
They are probably going to wait till sprint gets theirs released so HTC wont patch it real fast before release.
I'm sceptical about moving from locked BL to another. I'm using the epic now but had the photon before that and motorola just killed the rom experience for me with super encrypting the 4G keys.
That being said I believe the One X folks are still having issues with kernels and the temp partition directory
Definitely will be on the lookout. over/under on root for EVO LTE? 4 Days after launch?
To be honest, don't think it will even take that long if the bootloader isn't locked down. Some of these devs seem to work magic with how fast the *hit comes out.
A root method using htcdev unlock I say 90 mins after one of the devs gets it hooked up to a computer to check partitions, and update cwm and a create a superuser.zip that can be flashed, A root method not using HTC unlock I am thinking by the 21st so 3 days.
S-off I am not so sure on, but hoping that support document about the phone being in non user mode and describing how it got in said mode may help

It's using HTC'S Unlock Tool. It still just unlocks your bootloader but leaves you S-On. As I figured and stated in the main thread I figured our phone would be unlockable with their tool. As history has shown every other Sprint phone is unlockable. People were getting worried cause AT&T's One X wasn't. Every other One X was unlockable and AT&T is notorious for locking their phones so this was expected.

Remember, if you are rooted NEVER ACCEPT AN OTA UPDATE AS YOU RUN THE RISK OF LOSING ROOT!
I'm guessing it has a new kernel as well, right? 1.22.651.1 source will be released in 4 weeks now. Heh.
Thanks for sharing this!
EDIT: This is what Mikey had to say about it...
mikeyxda said:
Yeah, looks like Sense 4.1 is rolling out. FWIW, I looked at the Sense 4.1 changes and it's nothing to get too excited about. We've already fixed a lot of stuff that Sense 4.1 fixes. For example, they claim better multitasking but I looked at the changes and you know what they did? They put in one bandaid that elevates the stock browser's OOM priority so it doesn't get killed as often and they put in a timer so the system could tell how "stale" a process is: killing older ones (that haven't been touched for a while) first. Kinda short sighted on the browser though, because it only fixes the kill problem for the stock browser. If you use Chrome, ICS Browser, Boat, Opera, or any of the others, no gain. I've already made some adjustments to elevate important tasks like SuperUser, Google Framework, etc. so they don't killed. Will be interesting to see how the two (my modded stuff and Sense 4.1) compare. They say Sense 4.1 has less bloat. We'll see. So far, what I've seen by looking under the hood of Sense 4.1 looks like nothing but a few strategically placed bandaids.

Yes, there is a new kernel as well as new radio. Should also hope that means they adjusted our phones to improve LTE as they did with the Nexus and S3. As mentioned other quick changes are we are now on Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1. Not sure if the quicksettings menu was really actually a part of stock Sense 4.1 as I never found concrete evidence stating it was but we didn't get it. We do obviously have the ability to remap the recent apps button and they finally added YouTube to the app associations menu so if you click on a YouTube link it opens the app and not the browser. I'm hoping EAS for hotmail is fixed as well but I will have to wait and see.

I told people that they would go back to the Evo 3D days (in the video), where you couldn't flash a kernel in recovery, and I was right!
Do NOT apply updates, if you enjoy root. And if you're here on XDA, you're probably enjoying root access, or trying to!

I hope this fixes my wi-fi issues currently running stock with goodies. So my understanding to update radios if you are htc dev unlocked is to relock and run an ruu? How long before a new version of the ruu gets posted? Wouldn't this risk breaking the currently working root methods? I don't need detailed instructions just the best steps in order to update to the latest radios.

A new HBoot? Seriously? I can't even do what I want to because I'm on 1.15 already. Now I'm scared to take this update that I really badly want.
But, I guess a brighter point to this situation is that HTC and Sprint are moving along pretty quickly with pushing out updates. Not sure if this means we'll get JB soon, but I would imagine shortly after the One X gets it, we'll be getting it as well. This kinda caught me off guard.
are the radios worth it? what do they do new?

U will be able to get S-OFF, other info = top secret
I can understand folks being hesitant. There was a donation thread for a guy who guaranteed to have working root for the Verizon Note II. Not only did he get a free phone, none of his methods worked.
Talk is cheap and people are skeptical. You know how it is.

I can't help but laugh/reply at this one. Soooo if all other information is top secret, can we meet up and you give me the scoup since i hold a Top Secret-SCI?
I'm gonna guess the method was probably leaked to the OP via someone inside HTC. Sometimes those leaks come with conditions, so the wait is expected. Waiting a couple months, when every other One series phone has been waiting for the better part of a year is definitely OK in my book.
If this is accurate, and it looks to be, having a working s-off method will be amazing.

Sprint Updating to Sense 6?

Both Android Police and UberGizmo are reporting that the latest Sprint update for their One max, which brings wifi calling, will also be bringing Sense 6.
If so that's pretty amazing turnaround, though I don't see any updates on HTC's update page.
Is anybody on Sprint seeing an OTA with Sense 6?
Will be very eager if any Sprint users can check on this.

That's the news. Apparently LlabTooFeR posted a screenshot of the update on Twitter a few minutes ago:

That's great, crazy fast. With Verizon's track record I'm sure it won't be that fast for the rest of us, but I guess one can hope.

I'm sure they'll have it by the end of summer, haha.
But, I'm sure the developers can muster up a pretty stable ROM to hold everyone else over. I have the One, not the Max on Sprint. I'm thinking if they got the update today, I won't be very far behind. I read that tweet and now I'm pasted to XDA, haha.

Confirmation. Just checked on my sprint one max and bammo. Now I have to find a stock recovery image.
Edit: anyone know where to get a copy of the stock image. Really don't want to have to ruu. I'm on rooted stock right now.

Just Posted the OTA in the dev section also.
I'd be really interested to know what the Sense 6 update has brought in terms of the camera? Specifically, does the camera now have manual focus like the M8 on Sense 6?

Yeah dude, update your OP with a system dump.. I've posted in other sections here how to "DD" the boot.img to the SD and then upload it, for the system just "adb pull /system/" and then zip it up and upload it here for us would be very very much appreciated!!! Flyhalf wants to get it ready for Verizon users..... Thanks bro
WTF? I have the International Unlocked version, shouldn't I have received the update before carrier subsidised phones?
Not necessarily, remember Sprint was going to release the Android 4.4.3 update to their Nexus 5 a few weeks ago but pulled it due to some issues.. That means the Sprint Nexus 5 would have had it before the GSM Unlocked Google Nexus 5.. lol.... Crazy how things have been transpiring hehe

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to sound butt-hurt about it. I was just under the impression that the unlocked international versions were always the first to receive updates according to their diagram that they released a month or 2 ago.
Okay finally after updating I flashed the hotspot fix and installed supersu through twrp and now when i unlock my phone I get "this app is not compatable with your phone" I can't do anything other than go through my notifications... It says unauthorized device above the message... This is really odd...

Not to sound like I don't care about your issue, but could you make a backup and upload it despite it being wonky?
I would try a factory reset first(wipe data).
If not, ok. But Flyhalf and I would be most grateful.
Thanks! Or anyone who could do so would be awesome! :good::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::good:

I would but my upload speeds are really bad. Plus I need to get my phone working asap.
EDIT: It was fine till i flashed the hotspot fix and it wanted me to root. Now I have wiped all but system and it still goes right to unauthorized device this app is not compatabile with your device... Starting to panic a bit... Really don't feel like Ruuing again tonight... Might have to. So a warning this may not be rootable right now... Or I'm a retard...

Flash stock recovery and do a factory reset.
That should resolve any issues...
Just a suggestion, wish I had this phone.
Would have a rooted rom up by now.
I personally just want the dump for dna, m7, t6, and m8 ports...
