If you have already unlocked bootloader
You can now flash kernels supports clockworkmod(cwm) thru fastboot
I preferred night elf kernel v1.5 for ics cause it is more useful..
And after flashing kernel..u can easily flash root and roms you like
---------- Post added at 04:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 AM ----------
Other thing..if you want to flash cm9 or cm10
Download it>extract its kernel from zip>flash kernel thru fastboot>
Install rom thru cwm..

No just flash cm kernel then flash cm9 or 10..
If you are flashing custom roms based on stock ics
Then use night elf

If you're asking that kind of question, use flashtool.
But try sometime to use fastboot from Android sdk.

Re: What to do after opening bootloader on mt51i. Ics 4.0.4 "587" to vet cm9 or cm10
Its not hard..
1) download cm9/10 and gapps for either ics or jb
2)install flashtool and drivers gor flashtool
3)extract the zip of cm and copy the file called boot.img
4) go in to flashtool and press the lightning bolt and press fastboot
5) put phone into fastboot mode( turn off and press menu button and insert cable)
6) in flashtool select flash kernel
7) disconect cable
8) turn on phone
9) when free xperia logo comes up press volume down repetedly
10) it will take u to cwm
11) go to install zip from sd card
12) go to folder with cm that u downloaded amd select
13) once installed wipe dalvick cache in advanced
14) wipe cache partition
15) go to gapps zip
16) install
17) reboot and walaaa...

Hi! Go to fastboot mode (menu button + usb cable [make sure you have fastboot drivers]), click first icon in flashtool, select fastboot, then "Select kernel to Flash", select your kernel, wait 2 sec, enjoy.

Sorry but I can't make any sense of that sentence, I don't know what you're trying to put across. Flashtool works well in fastboot mode, you don't need anything extra, the tutorials generally use ffastboot via terminal as its more flexible but if your struggling use flashtool as your not going to use other features anyway, you can always learn to use the command line version

This tread should be in Q&A not in DEV.
Anyway do U have bootloader unlocked?
That rom is a 2.3 rom and you need to have and unlocked bootloader. You need to have 2.3 on your device first which would you would find in my signature below. So skip through the tread and find 2.3 Download it and flash it and try the rom again.
Sent from my X10i
Dude u r in 2.1 now. It has a baseband of .49 or .54. GB needs a baseband of .71. So the only option is first u download a pre-rooted firmware image and flash it via flashtool. U will boot into GB. Then unlock bootloader using Laser's method and install custom kernel like DoomKernel.
Follow this method
[RECOVERY image] {v2} X10 GB 3.0.1.G.0.75 [Prerooted + Fixed xRecovery] to insatll the prerooted firmware using flashtool.
Unlock bootloader using this steps from
[HOW-TO]UNLOCK bootloader for X10
Then flash DoomKernel from this link
[KERNEL][X10] DooMKernel [UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS]{Rel:v06}[Dt:10/Jan][FW3.0.1.G.0.75] and boot up into stock rom or the previous GB rom u r using.
For Stock based roms, DoomKernel is simply the best.
For CM7 based roms, use FXP 130 kernel provided here FXP 130 and
For CM9 based roms, use FXP 132 kernel for better performance which u can download in FXP CM9 Thread.

but i dont know wich kernel to install
i will write here what i did
so other can have an easy install
thanks to brenty108 for the help
If that rom is in ftf format
Open with 7zip or winrar
Look for kernel.sin
And place it in a folder
In flashtool create kernel
Point it to the folder containing kernel.sin
You should then be able to place your created kernel into firmware folder and flash it
I haven't had much experience with those roms so it's just a suggestion

Okay. then, do this.
Choose any ROM you like.
Flash via Flashtools base firmware(If you choose a GB rom then Flash any Gingerbread Stock Firmware, if you choose an ICS then flash any ICS Stock Firm..)
Flash any compatible kernel
Turn your phone on and enter cwm Recovery
Flash te ROM and do all wipes that ROM requires(its on OP of the ROM you 've selected)
Reboot and hope it works well!
Hope this can solve your problem

FYI : if you already unlock the bootloader, you don't have to root it anymore....just flash any custom kernel into your phone...all custom kernel is pre-rooted and have CWM be default....
flash any custom kernel first, then you can install any custom roms or official roms with losing your root....

[Q] I thought I had it all figured out...

I recently updated my friend's X10 to 2.3.3 (she was still on 2.1 - amazing).
I went forth and unlocked the boot loader and rooted the device - no issues at all.
Now I guess I simply wanted too much. Intrigued by all the ICS ROMs lying around here I finally decided to try one.
Good so I read a few howtos, and figured I needed to flash a new kernel before I flash a new rom. First things first, right?
So I flash feralab's v4.5 kernel as it seemed to be in a stable state. The next step would have been to install Vashida Reddys 003 ROM but I didn't get that far. Flashtool told me the kernel flash was successful... unfortunately the phone didn't boot anymore. Or only until the green Sony Ericsson logo
Desperately I downloaded SEUS and went back to stock.
What is it I did wrong? :-/

okay.. I'll give it another shot. If you are new to all this all these colorful threads with hundreds of posts to read are quite a chaos you know
If you take that rom, you need that kernel and afterwards you need these fixes and gapps and this shiny addon pack etc. etc. Oh well anything else would be too easy
do I use fastboot mode or flashmode to flash a kernel .ftf file?
Edit: Found another thread. The information there was inconclusive but apparently flashmode is the right choice.
Fun Fact. In Fera's V4 ROM the English installer says: Thanks for choosing feralabs or something similar. However the German translation says "You will regret choosing feralabs". I hope I don't

So did everything work out? If your friend wants all features working on her phone I suggest you stick to gingerbread. DonutHD stock gingerbread is a really nice fast and most importantly stable on. You could find it in the development section.
Ps. You need to be on stock kernel so you should flash 2.3.3 again(if not already done) and root and go from there. Do this if your a good friend ics for x10 us just not there yet. Give my regards.

Hi, I really want to be in the safe side here, very much afraid of doing something un-fixable:
I've got the Sola with Ginger Bread (2.3.7) with build number 6.1.1.B.1.54. :::: ¿Is it totally SAFE to flash the CM9 in my situation?
I ask this cause it seems that pretty much everybody in the forums seem to be flashing from the ICS(4.0.4) 6.1.1.B.1.10...
(¿Also: should I flash a recovery (like munjeni's Sony Xperia Sola boot for 6.0.B.3.184 + root + CWM recovery v5.5.0.4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901134 )
first in order to have a guranteed backup of the Sony original everything??)
Thanks in advance, kind of confused here...

you could always flash back the stock ROM incase of softbricks............. you mentioned that you are using GB butr the build number (6.1.1.B.1.54) is i guess of ICS latest firmware.......... so first confrm which version are you running.,,,,,,,,,,
For FXP you will have to flash ICS first (i guess) and then install the CWM followed by FXP CM9.1..................

Okies u want a complete backup
So I guess ur bootloader is unlocked
Flash munjeni's kernel or just install cwm
Do a nandroid backup from cwm( yes it backups everything)
And then flash. 54 fw (ics) (latest changelog of fxp 202 requires u to have this fw)
Bt u r already having this
And dun worry about soft bricks they are easily recoverable... anyone here can help u if u get one

use PC companion to install latest .54 FW for ICS (if BL locked) and then CWM and then the CM9............
If unlocked bootloader then flash the .54 FW using flashtool and then CWM and the CM9.................

Thanks, using Mac here, but I'm glad to find out that Sony FINALLY provided an interface for Mac users ("Sony Bridge for Mac"), so I did the regular upgrade to ICS w/.54.
Gonna go ahead and flash munjeni's kernel + CWM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922029 )
(¿wouldn't be a good idea that someone asked munjeni to change the name of the thread to "etc 6.1.1.B.1.10 (and .54) + etc"?? It took me a while to find it, using both google and the forum's search, as I was always dismissing it thinking the .10 build wouldn't work for the .54...
I mean, in the interest of future knoobs like me. I tried to post, but it's locked to non-developers)
