Bluetooth Frustration: Nexus 7 says "use Razr for Internet" but Razr says same
I'm having trouble with connecting my Nexus 7 to my Razr Maxx over bluetooth. My goal is to share/tether my phone's internet connection over bluetooth. They connect reliably, but they don't share internet anymore (they did for several weeks). Not sure if it's related, but... both devices show that they are using the other device for internet access. It's as though they both think that they're tethered off of the other.

I've tried unpairing and re-pairing, but this persists. Any suggestions?

Uncheck the use for internet box on your RAZR.

I've tried that. It won't un-check.
If this were a Windows PC, I'd look for corruption in the Registry. As this is Android, I'm not sure where to look beyond the bluetooth menu itself, but clearly there's a setting or file somewhere that's corrupted.
Now what?

Why not use wifi instead of Bluetooth?
Odd that setting will not uncheck.

Wi-Fi works and I use it until I can get BT working again, but the great advantage of BT (when it works) is that BT uses so little battery that you can leave BT tethering running all the time without noticing any adverse impact on battery life. Granted BT is slower than WiFi, but for everything except full res streaming video, it's fast enough for me.

On your Razr, make sure you have "Bluetooth tethering" checked under "Settings >>Tethering & mobile hotspot".
I had the same problem last week and somehow that setting had got unset.

Solved, but still Weird

The bluetooth tethering box was indeed un-checked. Checking it didn't immediately solve my problem. However, checking the box and renaming my phone's BT identity (in the hope that the N7 would see the phone as a new/different device and create a new/different BT profile for it) and then pairing to the new name appears to have worked. Of course, it was never going to work without the bluetooth tethering box checked and so I am very thankful for your suggestion. I might never have remembered to look at at that on my own. I think I had two problems. The bluetooth tethering box being un-checked and a corrupted profile.
The weird thing? Both devices still show that they are using the other for internet access. Go figure. Anyone else using bluetooth tethering, is that how it is on your devices?

Disable WiFi on both devices before Bluetooth tethering

never tried BT, but with Tethering/Mobile Hotspot on the RAZR, my Nexus7 works really well. and the battery is usually roughly the same?

R3dbeaver,
As you asking if battery life is the same using BT to tether intead of wifi? If you are, then the answer is no, battery life is much better when you use BT to tether.

stock rom, only delete original tether apk which att put restriction on it.
it won't work with encryption on, open access is fine.
security only have two option: open or WPA2PSK.
any one have some issue, any fix?
is it due to rom problem or root problem?
No problem with WPA2 PSK. You really don't want ot use any other encryption.

looks like encrypted tether is working for some one.
any idea why some device is not working? due to lack of tether plan?
for root phone, if just copy other tether apk to it, will it work?
Mine is rooted and tethering manager removed just like yours.
The problem is probably with your other devices that try to use the wi-fi hotspot. They are not compatible with your phone. Do they all support the WPA2 PSK encrytion? I'm not sure if the phone is using WPA2 AES encryption or WPA2 TKIP encryption.
Use letters and numbers for the password if you don't do it already.
That fixed it for me when it it didn't worked, well was on a Xperia Arc but should work for you, too.

I change my APN to get away from strict NAT. There are a multitude of APN settings for ATT. Some give me great speeds, some have strict NAT, so you will have to try different ones. I've posted 2 screenshots of the 1 I use for fast speed & Moderate NAT.

Anyone get tethering to work under ICS?

Seems like under honeycomb I could connect to my phones tether easily. Did the upgrade last night and now I can't connect. Just sits at obtaining IP address.
I was running a older 2.x build of it, so went to the homepage and tried 5 different versions on 3.x beta.x and none of them helped the situation.
Any others?
sh*t sorry, I don't know how I was in this forum! Please move!
I just moved and my cable and internet has not been hooked up yet so I have been using my phone to tether and it works everytime. I stopped usuing wi fi tehter app it doesnt seem to work anymore. I have been using open garden and it worked last night to update my transformer. Then it connected as soon as it rebooted with no problems.

open garden doesnt work either... the prime doesnt even see it as a wifi network
I've been using Bluetooth tethering and it still works after the ICS upgrade.
how do you get bluetooth tethering to work? I can't get it...
n/m i got it using open garden, and it opened up the sprint hotspot thingie and I had to check enable...which is weird...but it works.
I guess screw WIFI tether
I have a rooted Verizon 4G Samsung Charge. Was using Open Garden Wifi with no problem since I received my Transformer Prime.
Wifi Analyzer on Prime finds the wifi network but It doesnt show up at all in Wireless and Network settings. FML

For those using Open Garden Wifi, what frequency channel, transmit power, and LAN network settings are you using?
I have even tried Barnacle now with no luck~!
I have a Droid 2 with mobile hotspot feature. Using Auto-Tether makes it real simple and quick to switch it on remotely from the TP and connect. I've had no problem under HC and still no problem under ICS.

Wifi direct after update still not working

Just did the new update it installed fine but still cannot get wifi direct to work, the option is there and my g s ii can see it but it will never complete the connection, can anyone confirm a working wifi direct session?

If you send an invite from s2, then disable and enable wifi direct on prime, you'll see the invite and s2 will show connected. but that's about it, unable to send any thing from s2 and I don't see any options on prime to do anything, even the setting don't open for device name etc....!!

I agree, it seems that the settings/setup dialogue for WiFI direct on the TFP are somehow missing. However, after some playing; I've been able to get Wifi Direct to connect between my Galaxy S2 and TFP. Here's what I did;
- TFP: turn on Wifi direct (there seem to be no other settings available)
- SGS2: turn on Wifi direct, scans and finds my TFP
: select the TFP and I get a menu showing Wi-Fi Protection setup.
: From this menu I chose PIN from this device.
: Dialogue shows Invitation Sent and an 8 digit PIN (leave open)
- TFP : shows nothing (!)
: switch OFF WiFI direct and then back on again
: Dialogue pops up for you to enter then PIN number
- SGS2 : Use OK to close the PIN dialogue box
The SGS2 now reports that is is connected to the TFP both under WiFi direct settings and in the Notification bar.
However, I have no idea what to do next. File Managers and MyNet don't seem to show any attached Network devices. Can't find any apps that make use of WiFi direct; suggestions anyone?
The above mentioned 'method' doesn't work.. and I've tried many time over now, but I just can't get SGS2 to connect to TF Prime.. SGS2 detects, invite being sent (no window popping up for PIN or anything).. but no response from the TF Prime.
I will also confirm that the above method does not work as described i get no pen dialog on the prime even when the wifi direct is cycled.

It was me that posted the above method on another thread. Just checked once more and it does connect as described for me. I wonder if my limited success is down to the Rom on my SGS2? I'm using Westcrips resurrection 8.6
However, it's a moot point as I can't seem to do anything with these devices once connected. And any settings dialogue is missing on the TFP.
Seems to be a half-baked implementation, which is a shame as the rest of this update seems pretty good.

[SOLVED] WIFI dropouts frequently - Acro S (Xperia 2011/2012)

Xperia acro S
my device has a very weak wifi connection. (Actually router settings)
Even im just next to the router, the connection stops frequently.
The wifi remains connected but transfer of data is not stable.
e.g: in play store, download stops and continue after a long time. (wifi connected)
Im using the latest firmware. This issue happens before and after rooting.
Anyone of u experience the same?

I don't really know mate. My connection with the Acro S has been butterfly smooth (both 3G and wifi). Maybe you should check your router setting?
I find it odd you're having wifi strength issues as well. I feel like the wifi antenna is better on my Acro S than my Galaxy S2.

Hmm, it won't be my router issue, my ipad, x8 and PC connects without issue.
I think something wrong in wifi hardware.
I always get "connection timed out" in play store, and spamming the install>cancel>install>cancel but no help.
The only thing is once I pressed install, i return to homescreen and wait the app to download itself background...
Have to claim warranty then. :good: LOL
LOL, went to sony centre, but the wifi problem gone.
So i have to do something to my router.

Im not sure. I read sony forum, there's several tips regarding b/g/n and channel
authentication is not mentioned there.
There's tons of ppl complaining this in sony forum.
I think there's a lot users out there facing this, but none posted in xda.
The wifi antenna of Sony is more "picky" than the average phone antenna. So it will very likely to refuse connecting to bad signal all the time.

Maybe, that means no solution?
I changed wifi bandwidth to 20 instead of 20/40, it improved a little, but still dropouts occasionally.

Possible to connect to wifi AND cellular data at same time?

Hi all. I have a new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV s-edition 2017, who got app control through wifi spot from car. However, the wifi range is horrible, so I was wondering if you guys know of any phone that can be connected to both wifi net (without internet) and same time connected to internet through cellular data (3g or 4g)
What I want:
Have a phone in car, connected to the cars wifi net (no internet) and through perhaps an app like airdroid, connect to that phone, and that way connect to the car through internet.
I have tried this with honor 7, but this so called smart phone, either is on wifi with no internet, or cellular data with internet. It will not work on both nets at same time.
Is the any android phone this would work on, or is there any workaround/hack to make this work. Surely, this has to be possible?
-Thanx, Ray

If your android running on marshmallow then there is a option in developer setting of cellular data always active. Turn that feature on and connect to mobile data and wifi simultaneously.
Ashwinirg answered the question, but I want to throw in that there are services, like Speedify, which claim some sort of "channel bonding" that merge your WiFi with your data connection to enhance your speed. I have no idea if Speedify or similar services actually work, but if you're interesting in enabling wifi + cellular data together, you might want to look into those services also.

Don't know if it is available in android nougat but it may be it available on marshmallow then it also available in Nougat..
Update:
So I bought myself a Lenovo p2, cause of its bigger battery, but it seems like it's not able to go between cellular data and wifi seamlessly like honor 7 did. It got the same options in developer mode, but it's not working.

Certain apps work if set right. It's kind of like downloading a torrent. Multiple connections work together to transfer the same file resulting in much faster speeds.
