First you need to unlock the bootloader to flash the custom kernel. Follow for example the guide in the stickies in general forum
And just check out development section for custom roms for locked bootloader, then try some and find your personal best rom/kernel. We are not allowed to answer that question

Please help!!! I want to root my xperia S and its boot loader is unloacked

Hello, I have sony xperia s and i want to root my device when i followed the following method
"How to SONY Xperia S LT26i with Official ICS Firmware
Download the following packages and save the files on your device-Nazomi Recovery Image, Super User
Place the files on your computer “platform-tool”
Connect your device using the orginal USB cable
Download this kernel and place it in the inbuilt memory of your phone
Now open Command prompt and type the following code”fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img“
Now enter recovery mode and Super user and kernel placed on your SD card
Now open any compressing program and extract the downloaded filed named “kernel.sin”
Enter the following code in command prompt again “fastboot flash boot kernel.sin"

when i follow these steps i get a message in cmd prompt that "Your device is not rooted."
How can i root the device? what is the easiest and best way to root it.
Do u want to use custom ROM or stock ROM?? If its an stock rom then search threads and look for Advanced Stock Kernel ( Depending on ICS or GB whichever u want to flash) . Then just follow these steps after flashing as i was advised which worked flawlessly
If you just want to root your stock , here is what i would do:
- download the advanced stock kernel (GB/ICS) by DooMLord
- connect the phone to pc via fastboot mode (i.e turn off and then connect the phone to pc via usb with vol. up key pressed)
- flash the advanced stock kernel using fastboot command. Just extract and copy the kernel.elf file from fastbootbinaries, save it in the fastboot installation folder.
- switch on the phone an wait for some time
- Again, switch off and go to fastboot or flashmode.
- then with 7zip extract kernel.sin from the stock ftf (Right click >Open Archive>Choose kernel.sin>Extract) and flash it using flashtool or fastboot command.
- Restart Your Phone and Valah!
If you follow these steps, then you should have a stock firmware with full root acess! good luck :good:!
P.S : YES u have to flash kernel two times. One from Doomkernel or Advanced Kernel (same) and then again with the original kernel.sin

Did you get blue light when you flash with fastboot, if the blue light doesn't turn on, then it means you are not in fastboot mode.

Stuck at the sony logo after flashing Ice cream Pureness build 11

I have sony ericsson neo v on 4.0.4 build 4.1.b.0.431 with unlocked bootloader (by official method), rooted, and CWM installed by X-part. I believe the cause is that I did not format /system (in mounts and storage), format /cache, and format /Data.
I am unable to access CWM. Could anyone able to access CWM and then re-flash the Pureness by CWM, or I have to flash with FlashTool to install the original Stock ICS. Then start all over again??!!
I have not done any FlashTool before. Any guideline??
Many thanks!!!
Did you first install the kernel as advised?
If not, then flash the kernel through fastboot and then boot into CWM.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using Tapatalk 2
I actually flash the follow the installation as follow but apparently omit step 4-6 below:
1.Factory reset in cwm
2.wipe cache partition
3.wipe dalvik cache
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage)
5.Format /cache
6.Format /Data
7.Install Xperia_Ice_Cream_Pureness_build_10.00.zip
8.Install patch for your phone model
9.Reboot now and you are done !
I did not 'first install the kernal as advised'??
Is this a fix, and could you tell me more how exactly fastboot and flash the kernal as you suggest??
Thanks!!!

Few more queries to clarify:
1. '......In the folder where fast boot is present in your pc hold': pc stands for PC Companion??
2. Do I need to download boot.img?? If so, please forward me the link??
3. After flashing the boot.img, is it just lead to fixing the CWM??
4. After fixing the CWM, should I simply follow the steps again on flashing the Pureness ROM, or I must flash the 'alliance kernel' first??
5. Please forward me the link for 'alliance kernel'.
Many thanks!!!
As for your questions,
1. PC here means your computer.. And the folder means that folder where you have kept your fastboot files!
2 & 5. Here's the link of the alliance kernel that you need to flash..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566871
Copy this .img kernel into the fastboot folder, and rename it to boot.img
Holding the shift key, right click and you get an option to open the command window..
In fastboot mode, holding the menu key while inserting the usb cable.. Type the following in the cmd..
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now turn your phone on.. Boot into CWM by pressing the volume down button.. Install the ROM from CWM!

Fastboot refers to unlocked bootloader as root.
Have you unlocked your bootloader?
You will know if you have done it! If you are unsure then you have not unlocked it, therefore, you cannot flash custom kernels so you need to either:
1. Use custom roms that are for LOCKED bootloader, or
2. Unlock your bootloader. To do this check the sticky threads in the DEV section

You cannot conect in fastboot with a locked bootloader.
Also, it seems daft that you are using 2 threads to discuss this problem.
My final bit of advice.
Download flashtool (its in the sticky threads in the dev section)
Download a stock .ftf (Found in the sticky threads in the dev section)
Flash the .ftf using flashtool when connected in flash mode (Not fastboot mode) You enter flashmode by pressing back button, not the enu button when connecting.
Once you have done that the phone should boot up with stock rom. Then you can use flashtool to install a recovery and install the pureness rom properly.

Download (Dont worry its for neo v, it doesnt matter, its just stockrom to get you going)
Place in firmware folder of flashtool.
Open flashtool
press flash icon
choose the file in the link
Turn off phone
Press back button and keep pressed then attach usb cable.
Flashtool will recognise your phone
let go of back button
wait untill flashtool finishes
disconnect and turn on phone.
First boot may take a while.
Goto settings and allow unknown sources and usb debugging.
Then use flash tool to root, install recovery and then you can install pureness via CMW making sure you follow every step in the guide, including all the wipes.

Bro, you saved my life. It did the trick, tomorrow will hit thanx for sure.
Questions:
1. How to verify i have unlocked bootloader?
2. Now having the stock ICS rom, what CWM to install so i can flash CM9?
Thanx
Just use the CWM kernel found in the Sola forum. That shouldn't be a problem as all you need is an ICS kernel (Not a GB).
You could have just flashed the CWM kernel if you had fastboot and mount SD in CWM
As for whether bootloader is unlocked, I recall if fastboot can see your device, it should be unlocked (fastboot device command or something)
glad it worked enjoy modding your phone :good:
To know if your bootloader is unlocked or not, you need to go to the folder where fastboot.exe is present and then Open Command Prompt in that folder and type the following command:
Code:
fastboot getvar secure
Turn off your phone and press and hold the Volume Down button when you are connecting the USB.
You can let go of the Volume Down button once the fastboot finds your device.

[Q] [Sola] installing custom rom

Hello, I've been trying to install custom rom on my xperia sola but I don't sure how and I don't wanna brick my phone, some people told me to try ROM Manager or X-Parts but in both app's it says that xperia sola is not supported.
Some told me to use flashtool and flash the boot.img but when I downloaded the pure blood rom(that's what I wanna use) there is only META-INF and system folders and no boot.img file, I've searched for some tutorials with good explanations for xperia sola but I haven't found any.
Can someone please give me a good tutorial or explain to me in detail how to install a custom rom? I have rooted and unlocked my bootloader, yet im not quite sure how to enter my recovery....
Thanks for the help!

I've already installed CWM but how do I reboot into it?
And is there any way to make sure my CWM is installed correctly like root cheker or something?
I didn't saw you added a link to CWM, I'll check it and see if I manage to do it, thanks.
To reboot into CWM, turn off the phone. Then press the power button till phone starts booting > Then keep pressing (repeatedly) the Volume Down button till CWM loads

Did you unlock your bootloader? If your bootloader is locked the only thing is flash only ROM for locked bootloader.
For example - you install munjenis CWM, you download ROM for locked bootloader (no CyanogenMod), place ROM on your phone memory, switch off the phone, switch on the phone, on logo pressing many times vol +, enter CWM and choose Install zip.
Thats it.

I tryed to install both Pure blood and Ultimate sola roms, same problem with both.
I can't post links yet, write in youtube "How to Load a Custom ROM on an Android Device " and go to the third video(for me anyway) by MobileUnlimited, that's what I used, I backed up all the data, wiped out data/factory reset, then install zip from sdcard(which btw goes to my internal storage and not my sdcard), then reboot system now.
And I used the CWM you gave me in post #12.
Thanks.
Edit - well, I didn't notice that, but the CWM you gave me is by "munjeni", and in the pure blood post it says: "2. FLASH CWM V5 for unlocked bootloaders... dont use any other...munjeni's "memory tweak + owerclock 1.15 ghz WILL GIVE BOOTLOOP.. and for locked bootloaders used the CWM is available for locked BL stock rom."
Can you give me another .54 CWM?

unlock your bootloader by these ways-
1)install usb drivers of xperia u..
2)Download Fast Boot Package (With USB Drivers)
3)Switch Off Your Device & Connect It To The Computer Using USB Cable While Enabling Fast Boot Mode (Press & Hold Volume Up Button To Trigger Fastboot Mode). Windows Will Start Driver Installation As soon As You’ll Connect Your Device To The Computer While Keeping It In Fastboot Mode.
3)Now Extract The Fastboot Package You’ve Just Downloaded. You Will Find 2 Folders Named As ‘fastboot’ & ‘usb_driver’.
4)Point Driver Installation Location To ‘usb_driver’ Folder.
5)Once Drivers Get Installed, Disconnect Xperia U From PC & Power On It.
6)Before Unlocking Bootloader, You Need To Check That if Your Device’s Bootloader Can Be Unlocked Or Not. For Checking Bootloader Status Dial *#*#7378423#*#* From Phone Dialer To Access Service Menu.Find Bootloader Unlock Status Over There. If It is Set To Yes Then Only You Can Unlock Your Device’s Bootloader Otherwise It’s Impossible To Unlock It.
7)After Verifying Bootloader Unlock Status Set To Yes, Go To Sony’s Official Bootloader Unlocking Site.
8)Scroll To The Bottom of The Page & Press Continue.

Procedure to Install Cyanogenmod 9.3 on Sony Xperia U ST25i:
1)Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod must be installed in order flash this ROM.
2)Download latest Cyanogenmod 9.3 package from any site (Cyanogen10 has not yet been released for xperia u)
3)Download Google Add-on Apps (Gmail, Maps, GTalk, Play Store etc.) which are not present in ROM by default.
4)After downloading CM9.3 package, connect your device to PC. Enable mass storage mode on it. Now transfer ROM package & Google Apps to your device’s internal SD card.
Now disconnect the phone from computer. Boot in recovery mode on your phone. To do so, switch off the phone, switch it on again, when phone is restarting (during boot logo & LED turns blue), press Volume up button. Your phone will land in recovery mode.
5)Take a nandroid backup of your current ROM so that it can be restored back (in case if anything goes wrong). To backup your current ROM, select Backup and Restore option from the recovery mode & on next screen, select backup. Now It will make a nandroid backup of your whole system (excluding SD card). Wait for the backup process to get finished.
6)Now Select “install zip from sdcard” & then “choose zip from sdcard“. Navigate the ROM file (which you’ve transferred earlier) Select it & press on ‘Yes‘ to continue. ROM installation process will start.
Wait for the ROM to get installed. After ROM gets successfully installed, your phone will land in the recovery mode again.
(Optional) The same procedure you have to do for installation of Google Apps. (Just don’t do the above step i.e, wiping data after installation of Gapps). After you finished installation of Gapps, press back button to go to main menu of CWM.
7)Select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition to wipe all the data & caches from the phone memory respectively.
Select reboot system now from the recovery mode to Restart the phone. Switch off it again. Now download the ADB & fastboot files which we will need to flash the kernel image.
8)Extract above rar file to a convenient location/folder (Fastboot Folder).
Open Cyanogenmod 9.3 ROM package using WinRAR or 7-zip, extract boot.img file (which is nothing but a kernel) to any convenient location. (It is located in the root directory of the ROM).
Now move the kernel file (boot.img) where ADB & fastboot files are located.
9)On the phone (while switched off), enter into the fastboot mode. To do so, Connect your phone to the computer. While connecting press Volume up button to trigger fastboot mode.
10)Open the folder which contains ADB & Fastboot files.
Run commandprompt.bat file to open command prompt pointing to the ADB & Fastboot folder.
Type the following command in command prompt to flash the kernel file:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
11)Restart the phone by typing “fastboot reboot” (without quotes) in command prompt.
FINALLY YU WILL HAVE CYANOGEN9.3 CUSTOM ROM IN YOUR PHONE...:victory:
