[Q] About Nandroid backup - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys before you say anything... I know this was answered about a thousand times but wherever I search I cant get a good enough topic to be fully certain so I'd be thankful if someone who knows this would answer...
So my question is: If I make my Nandroid backup and move it to my pc, can I delete every last thing from my phone inc. my music, photos, videos, contacts etc.(basicaly do a hardcore wipe) and then move the backup back on the phone and restore it using cwm recovery so that everything is back and fully working, you know all music, photos, settings and stuff would be back???
Hope someone will answer me and thanks in advance

No problem. If you are unsure, before you delete anything, just restore the backup(also to make sure it works).

Actually, I don't believe a nandroid backs up your internal or external sd card. So you should copy that to your computer as well.

Well I did that anyway to be sure but I acutally think it does cause I think I recalled that I tried it some time ago and that it worked but the apps were acting strange...

Titanium Backup is idiot

I´ve made titanium backup of all my apps (stock froyo rom) then installed Bi-Winning rom and now I can´t restore my phone to how it was with Titanium, it doesn´t lists any of the apps I had installed neither the "interface" settings (volume, profiles, icon settings), the stupid titanium backup lost all my data and apps, where are them??? I have backup them!!!

Also, Before flashing anything new .... ALWAYS.... just copy everything on to your computer in a folder. Then, if the flashing cause any data loss you also have a secure back up to restore from. BUT 1st follow s15274 advice, it is the obvious do that first

Yes I have all the filters set to ALL. Man this program is so idiot. I hate it. It doesn´t work. You install a new ROM and all your apps are missing, there´s no backup. I´m gonna destroy this thing. Could it be a problem because I did a "restore factory/clear data" on CWR before flashing the new ROM? or this idiot backup program is just a **** plain and simple? WHERE IS MY STUFF??

I don´t know why people post when they don´t know exactly what they are saying. I have just uninstalled Titanium PRO and re-installed Titanium non-pro and all my apps appear again. Very strange. Could it be something related to a "root" version of the non-pro? Well the PRO should also be root.

I still don´t understand how it´s possible that the PRO doesn´t show my backup files and the non-pro does.

There aren't separate pro and non-pro apps. All the pro app does is unlock features in the base app. So idk what you screwed up but you did somewhere. Did you legitimately buy the pro app or sideload it?

This thread is what's wrong with xda.
soon as i read the thread title... i knew something was wrong.
just to make this thread a little worth, I´ve found a way of restoring all the apps without the annoying titanium messages for each app. Here is how:
Make a backup with both MyBackup root and titanium backup free, for both app + data.
After installing a new rom, perform the restore of app+data first in MyBackup. It will not popup any button durring the restore, but it will fail to restore apps settings (data). After that, run the batch restore operation in Titanium but in the last screen select just "data", not app+data. It will restore all apps settings (data) correctly. All free.
Congratulations...you found a way to profit from other people's work without having to give anything in return.
If you're going to be a pirate, no one can stop you. Just keep it to yourself and don't come whining for help when it bites you in the butt.

How to backup touchwiz folders and icons

Hello guys! I've been formatting my phone more frequently as of lately as I've been trying roms, and I'd like to know is there a way to backup the icon order or folders or anything like that? It's kind of a pain putting all my icons back in order and such every time! I'm not rooted. Is there a way? Thanks
Some launchers have the ability to save the layout, launcher pro and adw come to mind, doubt the stock one can.

You have to root if you wanna use Titanium Backup
I think other app or other solution you still need to root cause you have to mass with system app(touchwiz) so you need root.

Preview icons not showing in gallery

I tried the ICS rom in development and during it I noticed my pics/videos were not showing up in the gallery. I figured this was a rom specific problem. However upon restore a backup, the same problem is present. I tried rebooting, and triggering media scanner but still nothing.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately it didn't work, thank you though. I'm not sure what the cause could be. I can open the media files, pictures and videos but can't see the preview before opening them. So it's annoying not knowing what is what until I open it.

Dude, you are Mount Asshole. I said nothing in my original reply or the one after that could be considered a personal attack to warrant what you have said to me. I simply said that when you are working with unofficial ROMs such as ICS that you should expect to run into some issues. Nothing more, nothing less. You decided to respond with all kinds of nastiness (and an obvious sense of entitlement) for no apparent reason. Perhaps you need a thicker skin if you plan on using the internet in the future. Jerk.

Well first off have you tried the app Rescan Media?
I had this same problem ran this and it fixed the issue..
If this does not fix your issue then you have an errant picture in your media directory. To fix this..
Remove all pictures from your gallery and back them up to your computer
Copy a few back to your phone and have it rescan see if it shows you them in the gallery.. If so then you know it is a picture issue.. Start adding them back in groups and find the errant photo.
Let me know if this helps..

[Q] Basic s3 rom info.

hi guys
theres a few things that i need to know if somebody could be so kind to assist or point in the right direction.
i have my s3 international for the past month now. i had put cyanogenmod 10.1 and it had its issues yet my titanium back up and my sd card was working fine. now i got my s3 back yesterday with stock rom and i flashed it and put cwm then restored a backup of the old nightlies then i did an update with the new nightloies, problem is that now none of my images are there and titanium backup is giving me the elements failed when i try to restore missing apps. how do i go about restoring my images from a nandroid backup? or where is it? i like this rom but now i noticed that the battery drain lasst night was like 15%. as you can see im still a noob at this so i cant check logs etc cos i dont know where to look. i have attached screenshots that might help.
Images are either stored on your internal or external SD card, in the DCIM folder. If they aren't on your external SD then you have lost them, nandroid doesn't back up the internal SD unless you tell it to and service would have wiped the internal SD.
Ask in your ROM thread for specific help, but I'd suggest flashing a fresh version of the ROM without performing any restore - see how it runs for a few days before you add any apps.
If you aren't confident then best stick with stock, or an modded version of stock, for a while first.
so what section do questions go?

Mate, if your images aren't on your internal or external sd card - they ain't there. No amount of titanium backup fiddling will restore your images.
Regarding your apps, play store will have a record of anything you have downloaded. Menu, my apps, slide left. Profit.

Mate, using a file browser, look in your DCIM folder on BOTH the internal and external SD cards.
If you can't find it, download a software called Recuva. It works like a charm. Sure, they'll be some corrupt images, but, most of them are there.

With that Smart Switch app from Samsung you just have to download it on your S3 and new S4. Then let each others' backs touch, and everything will be transferred via wifi direct which is very fast.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. Here are my take on these:
Samsung Switch - tried this, useless as F!
Helium - could have taken that route were it not for the software I used
Sorry Glebun. Won't happen again.
As for the software I used, it's Wondershare MobileGo for Android. Did what it's supposed to do. Pretty much.
I just hate that there are multiple entries in the phone book. For example, he has a contact with multiple numbers, all of them are going to be on a separate entries. Strange.
Should've tried Helium.
