Not even a question. Bought the iPad when it was unmatched by any other tablet in terms of screen quality. Now that the screen has been completely surpassed, cheaper and with an OS I like more I'm dumping it for some Nexus love. Cant wait to uninstall that virus (I mean itunes) Anyone else coming from another tablet?
I'm in the exact same position as you are: My iPad 3 is already up for sale on eBay. I've been very unhappy with iOS in general, it seems very basic in terms of functionality (especially playing videos is a real hassle without hardware support for most media types) and inflexible (no easy way to create shortcuts to often needed functionality, for example).
iOS Apps are all dependent on support for each other, there is no easy way to handle & share files between different applications if the developer didn't think of explicitly adding support. This is basic functionality that is perfect on Android, but practically non-existent on iOS. Another big hassle was the slowness of Chrome for iPad as well as the inability to set it as standard browser due to Apples App Store restrictions. I want something that works better for my use cases and is flexible. Regarding the size of the competing app markets, I'm not concerned: Everything I need/want seems to be available as a tablet-optimized App for Android.
So I'm happy to buy the Nexus 10 - after multiple years of Android smartphones (Galaxy Nexus currently) I'm pretty sure that it will suit my needs much better than the iPad ever did.
Same here. Getting a Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 instead of my OG Galaxy S and iPad 3. Can't wait.

Keep both while risking the iPad3 devaluing and using it less over time. Or, sell it now while you can still get a good return for it with the option of buying it back later for less.

The only place the iPad actually loses is in resolution. It smokes the N10 in benchmarks, build quality, and tablets apps.

Agreed, the DirecTV app is awesome on the iPad, and terrible on the Nexus 7. In fact, that's the none app that I'll miss when I sell my iPad to get the Nexus 10. Not that it's enough to make the iPad worth it...

I would never sell my ipad I would rather just save up and get the Nexus 10. What if you don't like the apps? I know that's the main thing I use mine for and browsing the web. I rather have both in my hands and compare the apps and other things before I let one go.

I only used my iPad for taking notes, watching netflix/youtube and browsing the net. I'm sure this will do all of that perfectly fine.

OK. Its obvious by now. After having 3 Android tablet I can say they crap. IPad 2 winner. Never lags. And always work fine. This new super duper quad core tablet its a joke. Lags when playing music. Flash performance pathetic or maybe the browser ****ty. The only good thing its playing games. That the ipad 2 does it great too. No more Android tablets. They all suck ! Returning this for a iPad 2. Didn't want to but **** it. I have no GPS or screen bleeding or wifi issues. My issue is overall performance. No worth it.

I've had an iPad 2 since release and am now seeking out a TFP. My iPad 2 and my wife's iPad 2 have had nothing but horrible wifi issues since we got them. It got to the point where I had to put in a second router just for the iPads because they would drop constantly from my dual channel Netgear. They seemed to work with the Linksys. I even swapped out the hardware and it still dropped every 30 seconds or so. Fortunately it seems that 5.0.1 or one of the other updates fixed this, but I had to live with it for over 6 months with no acknowledgement from Apple.
Also, iPad wifi version doesn't even have GPS.
Ok. Maybe im allitle bias towards android BUT. I find with apple products, their great for the average user. Which is perfect for id say 90% of people. But for me (and id say most android users) like the freedom that android provides. Like say themes, custom roms, overclocking, and just general settings. So androids not for everyone. Thats fine, so have fun with your lock pad. (I meant that in a funny tone)

I agree with Husker, guy seems to want to start an iPhad argument. And as Jrock says, it's had its share of issues too. This guy can't even wait till it gets its intended OS = ICS. Honey Comb is on this just so it doesn't go out the door blank. If it sucks that bad, I'll buy it from you right now for 3/4 of what you paid, after all it does have your grubby fingerprints all over it and apparently its a pos.

My thoughts too.
One of my uses for a tablet is video (TV shows or movies) when traveling for business. iPad or iPad 2 will never fit my needs for this with it's old acquainted 4:3 display.

3 Android tablets all running Honeycomb. What did he expect? At least see how Ice Cream performs on a tablet.
Looks like it's on his Galaxy Nexus he used to submit his comments. He might as well sale his Galaxy Nexus for an iPhone 4S (wait it does not have 4G). To use his language then the iPhone 4S must be a load of Crap.
I keep hearing that this is not a bargain like the $199 Nexus 7 or $309 Nexus 4 but it really is.
First, you are getting the highest resolution mobile screen EVER. Second, the dual core A15 is the first of its kind if you don't include the chromebook and will not be used in most mobile devices until mid 2013 at least. Third, they managed to make it only 8.9mm thin, something that Apple couldn't do for the new ipad's. Four, it is one of the only 3 devices running Android 4.2. All that for $399.
It is a steal and in some ways even more of a bargain than the other two.
Ignore this post if you are aware, this is for the people that can't see why this is any different than all the other 10 inch Android tablets.
Sounds good but if no optimized apps for tablets I will wait on the fence still and see what happens if apps look the same on n10 as they do on my note 2 then what's the point.

I have both devices. They are a good combination. But every app on Nexus 10 looks better.
For some reason I find myself on my dad's iPad 4 rather than my Nexus 10. Apple is def doing something right.

I have the n7 and the n 10 ipad2 and just sold my galaxy tab 7.7.
Not all apps look better on the N 10. For example the Engadget app does not scale, yet.
Out of all the tablets i have owned the n7 is the best. However I am getting the note 2 on Monday and I suspect it will be my go to device, then the n 10, and finally my laptop.
Another couple of years and they will have finally have a tablet that can be used for work and play, not there yet.

The point is that the Nexus 10 does web browsing, the main use of a tablet for most, bigger and sharper and has the horse power to push it extremely smoothly.
No one says I have a cell phone, what is the point of a 55 inch TV, my apps look the same on it. Why would anyone say that here?
10 inch is the sweet spot like Steve Jobs said in my opinion. Laptop is too clunky and the Nexus 7 and Note are too small. That is my opinion.
To me, an android phone is the best (love my S3 to death). But for a tablet, iOS is the best. I decided to return my nexus 10 since Im not patient enough. I got frustrated with apps on the nexus 10. Apps do not look good and run well on the nexus for now (this will be fixed, of course). But apps for ipad are also much better. ALso never think more pixels are better. WHat matters is its contrast and color accuracy. More pixels only drain the battery.

actually apps will look different on the nexus. specificly, they look worse since they haven't been optimized for high resolution screen .. yet
These arguments are pretty pointless. The notion that there must be a one great almighty device that trumps all seems silly to me. They're both great, just buy which one fits your needs. Its a tablet you use to watch YouTube, its not a big deal.

There is no denying that the iPad 4 is the best all-around tablet out there - build quality, performance, smoothness, tablications, battery life, everything is cool. I'm buying the Nexus 10 however because:
- better bang for the buck, the $100 it's cheaper can be use for the surely coming keyboard dock
- 16:10 - if you're not watching video content why even go for 10", the AR is a nice compromise between 16:9 and 4:3
- Adobe Flash - be honest, you'll miss live streaming and all the flash-based content, and it's not going away anytime soon, N10 runs it well
- extras: higher res screen, NFC, USB-OTG possibilities (media play without root), front-facing quality speakers, lighter weight

I don't agree with these two points. I bought a 10 inch tablet mainly for Web browsing. My note 2's size is just fine for videos but not for heavy web browsing.
And the Nexus 10 doesn't support Flash natively, you need to sideload the apk and download a third party browser. On the ipad there are pretty decent Flash-supporting browsers so it's a tie in this area.

Flash is a dying/dead platform on Android, so no big loss there IMHO. And the sooner it's gone completely, the better it is - Flash had its place but today it's just a bloated and very dangerous piece of crap software.
Of course you would make a thread like this lol. The moderators must be getting tired of closing these things...
Who gives a flying frack what the app "looks" like!! Does it do what it is supposed to do? Does it do it fast? Do movies look better than just about anything else out there? Is the sound great compared to most tablets? Is the resolution higher than ANY tablet out there?
Personally I am about getting **** done with a tablet, you can have your pretty apps, because I already got my **** done, and ran 17 more apps while you are "oooh'ing and ahh'ing" over how pretty your apps are...

you don't have to agree. personal opinions are just that. personal opinions. sideloading or not, i'm not quite sure of the difference. apps are apps. we all use them. so whether or not you have to install an app to get something to work the way we want it doesn't really take anything away from the devices we choose. some cars have ugly rims on them when we buy them from the dealer. we buy and put custom wheels on them. your "point" is moot at this point. but an ipad or buy a nexus 10. who cares.
Nexus 10 is so big it doesn't matter how thick it is within reason. Actually, I would've preferred they gave it a bigger battery for longer life unplugged.

Yes Nexus10 is awesome, but I'm a little bit desapointed by Android 4.2 regarding "no flash player" I know the reasons but currently I cannot benefit from web TVs I planned to watch with my new tablet (Orange TV, Canal+, Pluzz...).

On the INTERNET, Flash is by far the most popular video format... and until HTML5 has agreed on a format that Chrome Firefox IE Safari Opera etc can agree on, flash video is still the choice for many web designers. If you are interested in seeing that content, you can either get flash a capable browser, or not see the video... crap or not.
I am a uni student and I need a nice tablet to make notes, record lectures, and read documents with. I am into games too but barely have time to play. I want something that will be useful two years from now. I am big on performance and graphics.
With no potential to attach a keyboard, is it really worth the money for a student ? How long will it take before this becomes out dated ?

You can attach a keyboard. Buy a bluetooth keyboard. It'll hook right up in less than a minute.
I can't guarantee the quality of this thing, but bluetooth keyboard cases exist.

e Nexus 7 is a powerful enough device with 1gb RAM which only sounds insufficient due to the 2gb devices that have come out(nexus 10). You could also consider the Asus Transformer series as you can get a keyboard dock with a built in battery and a full sized USB port, also a micro SD card slot but you won't get the vanilla android experience and timely updates like you will on the Nexus. It depends on what you prefer. Hope that helped.

Most tablets don't have specific keyboard attachments made by the manufacturer; Asus is the exception, if you think you need a keyboard, check out the Transformer series of tablets. I owned an Asus Tf700 tablet w/ the keyboard dock and IMO found the keyboard too small for accurate/quick typing. Instead, I use a Wacom Bamboo stylus and digitally "handwrite" my notes using two apps; 7Notes & Evernote. 7Notes is a keyboard replacement for handwriting text and actively converts your writing to typed text; in combo w/ Evernote, I love it. At the end of the day I have clean, organized & typed notes saved in the cloud on my Evernote account.
Me? I have a laptop w/ normal sized keyboard for typing; I bought my tablet for just that..a tablet lol.
My reasons for getting the N10:
- Pure Google/Android experience & almost instant updates. (2 yrs use is absolutely achievable w/ a Nexus device)
- Great specs & design doesn't look anything like an iPad + the display is gorgeous.
- And of course school; this includes taking notes as I'm also a college student.
Also, Highlighting text is pretty straight forward & easy for copy/paste actions.
I said to 1gb referring to the nexus 7. And using Bluetooth as a keyboard would kill battery. I'm on my phone will get to my desktop soon and research. I love the bonus power from the Asus tho.

I have the exact same requirement too. I plan on reading docs, books, making notes and watch movies/tv shows occasionally. I plan on getting the nexus 10 seeing as it has the best screen res amongst all android tablets, thereby making reading books like harrisons medicine more convenient.
That being said, I will probably sell the N10 and order a Note 10.1 2 with a full HD display the moment it becomes available(at some point in the future). From what I've seen, the productivity on a note is unparallelled amongst android tabs.

I have the exact same requirement too. I plan on reading docs, books, making notes and watch movies/tv shows occasionally. I plan on getting the nexus 10 seeing as it has the best screen res amongst all android tablets, thereby making reading books like harrisons medicine more convenient.
That being said, I will probably sell the N10 and order a Note 10.1 2 with a full HD display the moment it becomes available(at some point in the future). From what I've seen, the productivity on a note is unparallelled amongst android tabs.

Waiting game is hard, but be strong and wait till CES comes around. For a student, having a Wacom stylus is a must and N10 simply doesn't fit the bill. Like a previous poster said, lets hope they release higher-res followup to the Note.
May be just may be ASUS will wake up and add stylus to the Transformer line (TF1000 ?
The jury is out on Windows 8 RT - it is DOA ... darn shame, as MS Note is the best note taking app ever, period. Sammy has 2 Windows 8 tablet out (Ativs) out, but too many folx are complaining about quirky stylus, battery life doesn't even come close to android tablets or Ipad ... Surface Pro will suffer from the same short @ss battery life.
It is sad state of affairs in the tablet market, as far as students are concerned ... will probably take another year for the ultimate tablet to emerge.

Exactly..I plan on buying the N10 when I go to the US in Janary. I won't be taking it if there is an announcement of a new Note at CES(which is unlikely, considering its only been a couple of months since they brought out the Note).

Battery life is fantastic. And in regards to "not enough apps for tablets", there's really nothing Google can do about that. That's up to app developers, not Google.
Not to mention, that Android tablets never reeall had the issues other tablets had.. most scale perfectly, and you wouldn't know they aren't for tablets (this goes for things like many games, web browsers, office aps, etc) . Those that do have problems are normally quick to get updates... frankly, the the issue is really overrated ..
I'm a student and I have been using it to study, although not take notes. I would not recommend this for taking notes because of the lack of the palm guard. Makes it very difficult and awkward to take notes on. As other posters have said, get the Galaxy Note 10.1 if you would like to take notes seriously. However, the Note 10.1 I ultimately decided against because the screen resolution got terrible reviews and I am huge on that, also the vanilla Android experience was too much for me to say no to. I really enjoy my Nexus 10 so far, and can get over the fact that there is no palm guard. Its a great device for the price overall

I think I'm going to wait then.. since its only good for studying. No network connectivity is an issue too since most of the apps I use need the net. No stylus.. Sucks the N7 only has 1gb of Ram which means lag. No tab for me then.. at least for now. Screen reviews are amazing tho ...speed and screen size suggest longevity. Bluetooth keyboard is attractive but I'm not sold. No SD, and No Network. Hard to spend $400 plus on it.

If you don't think the N10 is worth $400, you have a rude awakening coming when you see how much comparable tablets are in the marketplace, especially ones with stylus support out of the box!

Is definitely hard to beat for many aspects but this tablet just isn't right for you, I can respect that although you may ultimately be displeased with other tablets for reasons that the nexus 10 excels in. I do think you ought to look into the note 10.1 if you are most concerned about note taking. Good luck finding the right gadget sir or madam

Apples to oranges honestly. Chrome books are typically very cheap netbooks with very limited software and hardware. Sort of a very cheap version of a macbook air without the form factor, slimness or software. The one time I used it I was amazed at how limited you are.
The chrome book pixel on the other hand is the single sexiest bit of industrial engineering I have ever seen. Unfortunately its still running that chrome OS. Honestly, I can see paying $250 for a chrome book even with how limited it is because its so affordable. The pixel on the other hand I can't see being worth it at all. As beautifully crafted as it is, the OS is just too limited to be worth the $1200. If it was running something like Mac OS or Windows 8 (touch input) I could see myself wanting one.
Hell I have both. Its not a computer replacement but it depends what your looking to get out of it. If your primary concern is work I'd say chrome book if you are using it for play then N10 hands down. It is apples to oranges but they're both great devices

Thanks for the very informative response.
I've had my 10 for a couple of months now & have yet to find a decent keyboard so I can use it as a semi-replacement for my laptop. I just want to use it to access files on my network occasionally to edit, etc, but not lose the tablet experience, if you will.
I purchased the Nexus at Staples & I have the option of returning it, no questions asked, if I chose to do so.
Bottom line, based on what you've described, it sounds like the CB is much more limited than the Nexus in terms of usability, correct?

Please see my response to "NickTheMajin". I'm not looking for a total laptop replacement; just a nice tablet/laptop hybrid but not for all of the things one might get in a fully loaded laptop.
That said, I do love the Nexus. I think the issue of a very powerful keyboard is what I need to retain it.

For your use I would really recommend two things. Either the Microsoft Surface or waiting and seeing if a new Transformer tablet comes out. At this point I would not recommend the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, its really not that good of a tablet and has a ton of performance issues. But Asus will likely release another tablet in its transformer line this year.
Based on what you said the best for you is a windows 8 tablet hybrid. I would not get surface I tried both RT and Pro and its OK but keyboard sucks big time. I would suggest you get the lenovo thinkpad helix. It is similar to Asus transformer but much more powerful and windows 8 coming out in April.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet or not, but Chromebooks (afaik) are "open", as in, you can install any compatible OS. ARM-based Chromebooks are a bit more limited on other OS options, in comparison to x86 Chromebooks.
Issue is the hard drive space is crap on chrome book most have 16gb not enough IMO.

I was not aware of this. Could you theoretically put Windows 8 on the Chromebook Pixel? Because that would actually make me consider getting one to supplement my desktop. $1200 is steep but the build quality of the thing is more than worth it if I can put software in it that is useful.
I love my nexus 10 and I was going to purchase a Samsung chromebook but the only thing that stopped me was not being able too run adb and fastboot and hook it up to my phone ....so I replaced the hard drive in my old HP lap top and installed Ubuntu 13.04 on it ....unless something has changed when I was looking at the chrome book about a month ago there wasn't a way to install the platform tools without having to do a million things I wanted something simple but oh well :good:

N10 and the Samsung Series 3 ARM Chromebook are nearly the same in speed.

You should be able to. I have a beta version Chromebook (cr-48) and I was able to install Windows 8 on that. Google even had a tutorial on their development site, so I'm sure you can do that with the newer Chromebooks.
Thanks to all for the great advice! At this point, I think that I'll hold onto my 10 & get a really robust keyboard. Speaking of, I've seen several. Top 3? May at least drop by a store to see a CB for the heck of it.

The stand it comes with is terrible and mine was torn out of the box. I bought it for the keyboard though and could care less about the stand since I'm using a case with a build in stand. I had a CR-48 too, was pretty awesome Particularly liked that it supported UEFI.

No idea on ChromeOS (although with Linux at the base, I imagine it should be possible to some extent), but if you load another OS onto the Chromebook, then yes.
I have a Samsung Series 3 Chromebook and I just ordered a Nexus 10. I know I can't speak from experience, as I don't have the 10 yet, but I plan to use each in conjunction with another - the 10 for light browsing on the couch, reading (I.e. Flip board, pocket, ebooks), playing games (I have ps3 controllers so it should work out well) and since I'm also a student, using it as a notebook with a stylus, going through PowerPoints and reading textbooks.
The Chrome book, as mentioned by someone earlier is moreso a work machine. To be honest, its fairly slow in my opinion, but that's essentially a given with the current price point. However, both the track pad and keyboard work extremely well, and are comparable to that of a Macbook Pro.
Honestly I'm questioning how I will use the Chrome book, now that I have a Nexus 10, a case with a stand and a great Bluetooth keyboard (apple keyboard), but I still think it would be nice in terms of actual browsing or doing work
Also, I don't feel limited at all with the Chromebook. All my document needs are taken care of by Google Drive (with 100gb of extra storage when you buy a chrome book), I have both Google tasks , Google calendar, MightyText (SMS from from computer) and Chime (notifications extension), and if theres anything I desperately need to do, I have Chrome Remote Desktop. I don't know if ADB is possible on the Chrome book , as I don't use it. But, you can always sideload Ubuntu. Finally, the chrome book has amazing battery life and has Netflix support so there's not much more I could ask for $250

I quickly checked this out on Amazon & the latest reviews were along the lines of 'wish they would make this for the Nexus, etc' IYO, what makes this keyboard stand out for the Nexus 10 specifically?

Not sure what people mean by "wish they would make this for the nexus" but it's just a good, solid keyboard overall. Granted, I don't have a lot of experience with a lot of other keyboards, but I'm not searching for another since I got this one. My case came with a cheap keyboard (I have the Poetic case/keyboard combo) and it needed replacing, that's when I looked at reviews and decided on the Zagg.

The first two weeks with my Nexus 9, I used to play with it every now and then. Mostly watching videos and taking few notes. The only big thing I can think of doing on my tablet is reading ebooks.
For the past month or more, I have barely used it. Reason being that pretty much everything the tablet can do, our smartphones can do.
Maybe I am wrong to think that a Windows tablet would have been a better choice - so, I would like to hear what you guys use your Nexus 9 to if you already have a decent smartphone?

I bought the keyboard and use it as a chromebook on the go... I am taking online classes and I got all the Microsoft programs on it to do my homework... And my text books are on it...

I use mine as a replacement for my 7 year old desktop. I put the desktop in storage in the basement. The only time I use the desktop is to use fastboot. I also have the Microsoft apps on the n9. I use it in meetings, for spreadsheets and PowerPoints. At home I use mostly for cruising the web. If I didnt need fasrboot for the n9 and my n5 Id ditch all other computers for good, as I no longer play pc games.
book reading, comic reading, music playing, work out tracker... occasionally use it for videos as i have other tablets and laptops that have bigger screens. i got it as a replacement for my galaxy note 8 - which is a damn good device, i just had an upgrade itch going on that wouldn't go away
i've had 3 wintabs, samsung 500t and 700t and currently still have my transformer t100. the battery life is freaking awesome on the t100 - about 11hrs of actual screen on use. only drawback is that no decent browser is very suitable for touch. chrome was the closest, but when they removed stackable tabs it worsened the experience. ie is great for touch... but it's still ie, lol.
Mainly i use it for Clash of Clans and other games, but also for web browsing, YouTube and Streaming (no local media as the 11GB free storage is ridicolous) and thats about it. I sometimes use my laptop (13") to watch movies and TV-shows but in bed i find the tablet more enjoyable for that)

Hmm, when I have both my tablet and phone beside me, I will never pick up my phone. I mean, why would you prefer to read anything on your phone rather than your tablet?
i sold my chromebook and nexus 4. bought a nokia 515 (feature phone) and the nexus 9.
mostly leave the tablet at the house.
i use it for:
comic books (device is perfect for this!)
games (boombeach, madden, etc)
nba league pass
carbon poker
I use it to do my internet surfing at home. Its much more convienient than messing with my laptop just to quickly check something out. Right now I'm at work using my nexus 5 as a hotspot to surf the net on my nexus 9 (don't tell the boss ). I can't stand a lot of the mobile-optimized sites, so unless I am only with my phone, I use the tablet to view the desktop versions. I also play games and keep notes. I also use it for my music playing needs a lot of the time. I use Chordbot Pro to write music on it. That would be difficult on a phone screen.
I use mine to move questions to the Q&A section all day. ?

BTW.... My N7 is getting rusty. I think I'll be getting an N9. Not impressed with Samsung. My daughters Tab 3 is terrible. ?

It's a good device Darth. I'm a little disappointed with its lack of popularity and support. But I enjoy the device a lot. I use mine mostly for browsing, xda mostly, and use it for work where I use it while traveling so I don't have to lug a laptop around.

So I actually use my for working out when I am following a program. I am currently doing Body Beast (no laughing) and ripped the videos onto my Nexus 9. That and my Jaybird Blue Budz and I have my own little private training session .

Lol, yeah, just what you need, another device to keep you busy on xda My wife is still trying to come to terms with my hobby here. I'm tech savvy and she's not. It's an alien world to most "normal" people. But I love it! Love learning new things and helping others.

I'd love to see a distribution of the ages of posters, in general, but particularly on this thread!! Just a quartile say, by 10 year segments. I'm in the >70; my use is primarily listening to the radio at night (poor sleeper) and mail. I find it handy for checking facts while listening/watching/reading.

this is a great device.
other great tablets are the galaxy tab s 10.5 or the z3 tab compact
they are just a bit pricier however
