Ideas on what to do with my busted prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Got my prime, got it rooted, NVFlashed and all that good stuff, and was enjoying it until the digitizer and LCD broke. Can't seem to find a decent priced LCD/digitizer combo anywhere.
Should I hold onto it, or sell it? Anyone know where to find a cheapy combo for LCD and digitizer?

Well, we seem to have what's necessary to make 1 functional TF201.
You'll see this is only my second post. My other post here is regarding swapping a new LCD into my TF201 due to it getting cracked by a rack on a ship (digitizer survived oddly). Well, I got a new LCD, but now the damn thing won't turn on. It's been an 8 month project trying to source a new LCD and to meet this sort of obstacle at the final moment is utterly depressing, and I'm pretty much done with this tablet.
So, I have a TF201 64GB with (as far as I know) functional LCD and digitizer. I have no idea what's wrong the rest of the hardware though. It's completely non-responsive. I'm very angry as I just spent 8 months (as I said) and $125 on this new LCD and the damn thing still doesn't work.
If you want it we can work something out. Or, alternatively, if you want to sell yours, let me know. I'll PM you my email (provided I can PM here with 2 posts, lol).

id suggest that the best thing to do is sell it for parts... ive not seen anyone get a good price and do well with replacing the digitizer..

While it's true that the digitizer and LCD are held together by double-sided foam, it's not terribly difficult to separate the two. I have heard of a lot of people having trouble with it, but using a xacto blade to cut the foam worked perfectly for me. Once the two were separated, I was able to test that they both worked, despite the LCD screen being cracked (meh...).
On reassembly, using 3mm double-sided foam (found it on amazon) worked pretty well too.
I've read about the inverted X-axis issues people are having with replacement digitizers, and that's terrible. I had a lot of trouble finding the correct LCD as well, as the HSD101PWW2 comes in at least 2 different versions. The common one found on ebay isn't compatible due to a different connector, and I was only able to find a new LCD from a broken TF201.

What's the rev of your LCD? Rev 0-A01? It's on the sticker that you got the HSD part number from.
I replaced my LCD with one (Rev 0-A01) that I bought from an eBay seller in the U.S. (seems like almost ALL of them are in China). It did not come with double-sided foam tape (thought that it *may* have come pre-attached with removable waxed strips covering the side that sticks to the digitizer). I went ahead and mounted the LCD using just the 4 philips screws. I thought that I might have light bleed doing this, but I didn't want to have to find tape. No light bleed. *BONUS* this LCD can now be easily removed if I need to in the future.
Do you have a Rev 0-A01?

I found a working replacement digitizer, it's when I looked closer when I was going to replace it I noticed that the LCD was cracked. Soon as I touched the back of it it went apesh*t.
So I'm returning the digitizer, and going to get rid of the Prime. Going to buy a laptop. Since the Prime has seen probably 30 hours of usage, it's still pretty new except for the screen. Even have the GPS dongle (never had many wifi issues like most people).
Since most of the busted ones sell on eBay for $250ish (that I've found when the bids end, that includes shipping) I'll probably ask for a bit lower than that, with shipping included.
Mine is the 32gig model, GPS dongle and cable, etc included. I'll burn off the NVFlash blob as well, in case you flash another android version on it and need recovery.

Yes, Rev 0-A01. I found mine through a reputable LCD vendor's website. They initially sent me a screen compatible with the other version (I can't remember the model number) but it wasn't compatible with the TF201. So I sent it back, and 4 months later they seem to have found a cache of screens, which I received one of.
I would also like to point out that they still have some available, but I won't post the link as I don't want to infringe on any rules here. But if you need a screen they are out there, you've just got to look a little.

Oh no, yeah, I've got a good screen and digitizer. Just won't turn on now for some reason. Charges (with LED confirming charge level) but power button/power button and down volume/reset pin do nothing. Plugged it into my W7 box, and Windows throws a misconfiguration error when trying to mount it. Something happened to it, unfortunately, between the time when I took it apart and when I finally got a good LCD. There's not a whole lot of troubleshooting info either in terms of individual components because most people just send them in to Asus for repair.

Alright, I'll watch the MP here assuming you're selling it here. I'm watching a few other places too, trying to find a donor.
There are some really nice ultrabooks out now days, I wish you luck.

Since it still works, and it's no hassle with bidding, already NVFlashed with blobs on disc, GPS dongle and about 30hrs use on it (if that) I think I'll ask about $200+, that includes the shipping to Canada/US.

But the buyer will still need to lay out around $200 for a new digitizer and LCD and then install, right? Sounds considerably high. Unless you're also including a keyboard/dock, it might be a hard sell. The less than 30 hours of use doesn't amount to much when you consider that it's substantially broken. I don't care (much) that a car has les than 15K if it's been totaled and I need to do the body work. The mileage is of substantially less conern than it would be.

Selling it as is for $180, or best offer. Shipping can be negotiated. It's over on the marketplace boards.

Good luck!
I got that used TF201 "shell" today and it's busted too. FFS, these things are finicky.

The replacement shell you got was busted? That sucks.
Mine is still around. Waiting to hear back from a few people on it.

So, I'm an idiot.
The replacement was a Rev 0-A00, and doesn't work with the TF201.
The "new" shell works, but I still have no display. At least I've got it narrowed down to the same old problem though.

bought a faulty g1

tight well...
I bought a white G1 that has been run over... ive seen videos and images of this device working perfectly the keyboard is fine and the touch screen is fine.
However the glass is cracked badly (can still see everything on screen) and also there is no signal on the device, im guessing its the antenna?
So my questions are, how much do you think it would cost to repair? and also where in the UK can i get it done? any sites? or should i take it into a shop, if so what one? or should i buy the parts and do it myself?
Considering the cheapest screen goes for around 60 dollars in Hong Kong and is not even an OEM screen, I saw you will be in for atleast 100 dollars. I believe to repair is around 150 dollars at the cheapest. Don't quote me on it though, I just saw that somewhere else.
It's it's only the glass that's cracked though. Ok so about 100 quid for the glass and repair. How much for the antenna?
Thanks for the reply

It's going to depend on what happens when it's opened up. It could be a few things. The antenna itself is most likely not the cause but rather the connections. It could be a bad solder or even a cracked board.
Just eBay it and get yourself a Sapphire or the Samsung when it comes out. Both superior to the Dream at this point.
well, im going to open it and check the connections, haven't received the phone as of yet. So im hoping its just a connection problem. Then ill fix the screen and e-bay it if the sapphire is better. What samsung? problem is, theil be couple hundred £ lol

Just your opinion. Neither of those phones have a hard keyboard.
the htc magic (sapphire) is basically the same as the dream but with an on-screen keyboard... and with a new firmware update i can get the best of both worlds with an on-screen keyboard and a slide out one. which is exactly what ive been looking for!
So yeah, back on topic, anyone know where i can get a replacement glass for the screen (or whatever i need, its only the glass that's broken, touch screen and image is perfect) and also there is no signal on the phone, so im guessing it could be the antenna, but im not sure yet. I definitely need the glass replaced on the screen though

With that knowledge searching becomes a lot easier
sorry, dont mean to sound rude, but i have seen this thread and i have bought a digitizer for the screen, should arrive tomorrow. My problem is the fact that i have no signal and the GPS does not work, so i dont know if it is a problem with the antenna's or wether its something else... How could i test them? without buying another g1. I dont want to commit to buying a new antenna only to find out that it was actually a problem with the main board or something. And ebfore anyone says anything both the antenna cables are connected on BOTH sides.

[TMO TP2] best way to repair body damage, or replace it

I have been using my T-Mobile TP2 without protection on it for a while and have dropped it a few times. The screen is still perfect and the lower half (keyboard) has relatively no damage other than a few spots of chipped paint.
But the upper half, around the edges, has took quite a bit of damage. Mostly chipped pieces and dents, partially because of me dropping it and also because the bodyguard I was using previously damaged it! It was one of those crappy snap-on ones. Will never get one again, just bought ghost armor.
Anyway my question is what is the best way to repair the chipped pieces and dents or is that piece sold somewhere so I could replace it? I have no experience replacing things on the phone but I'm sure if there's a tutorial anywhere it wouldn't be too hard for me. Besides I"m not trying to disassemble the entire thing just the upper portion without the screen.
Any help appreciated.

I am trying to locate a replacement front HW button (back key is either cracked or scratched and light shows through) - so, during the lcd repair process, is this button easily replaceable without getting too involved with any other components? Any suggestions or advice on what to do/where to locate this piece of plastic would be met with extreme gratitude!
Get a new housing from eBay.
Just be careful to get one that fits your version.
My phone was stolen at work on Friday, so I managed to scramble and find one at a good price on eBay and it arrived this morning.
While I did ask to see photos, and I expected some scuffs, the photos didn't do the device justice at all, as it's much worse than I expected. In all the time I've owned my devices, I've never dropped my phone once, not once! this thing's a disaster.
So I'll need to get a replacement housing. I've been looking at eBay but couldn't see anything except these ridiculous colored housings for teens and 20-somethings. Where do real adults get the housings from?
This is an excellent outer shell protector, gives better heft holding (IMHO), rubberized black, very lightweight. Just snaps on and off.
Auction ended, but locate seller store. My Tilt2 fit perfectly in the Touch Pro Verizon except camera button needed cutting shell (trivial task).

As for the eBay complaint issue, I did think about it, but eBay is such a PITA about any disputes; they always act as though they don't want to get involved at all. In the end, I'll eat this one caveat emptor, at least this time.

eBay dispute process is tedious an long winded, but will lean towards the buyer in almost all cases. You just have to be patient.

Always pay with your credit card through PayPal. Ebay and PayPal suck at disputes; your credit card company is your fall-back and your best protection as well.
You can get OEM housings for $50-60:

Looks like it's kinda tricky to replace the housing (if you're going OEM)....

Great, thanks for the tip! I'll have to look into this closer, as I think if I go with the Touch Pro 2 OEM housing, there'll be a hole for the front-facing camera.
Maybe I'll just deal with it for now and keep my eyes open for an AT&T Tilt 2 housing somewhere. If it wasn't so beat up, I'd try a warranty exchange through AT&T; I was able to do it when I purchased a used BlackBerry Bold 9700 with no problem.

Hi there!
I've a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 that is quite beat up too & I want to replace the whole housing.
Problem is where I'm living right now, the T-Mobile housing costs double of the standard Touch Pro 2 housing.
Is it possible to fit the motherboard, flex cable & LCD panel of the T-Mobile onto a HTC Touch Pro 2 casing with the power button?
I would need the touch screen & call/navigation buttons as well.
Please advise me if you know anything about this.
Thanks!

[Q] TF201 glass broken

Hi guys,
This happened to me
Bought a Transformer Prime, and got the glass broken. The LCD screen itself is OK, the tablet is working just fine, but the glass is cracked.
Spent 3 days searching, nothing. There are all kinds of parts for TF101, but TF201 -- not.
Went to service guys, they want 400 bucks for the replacement: they say they can replace the LCD screen AND the glass. Obviously this makes no sense since the brand new TF201 costs about $500 for 32 GB version (which I have).
Ideally, finding the glass with digitizer would solve the problem, but so far I can't find it.
Checked the asusparts.eu website, but not sure if these are the right ones (and, still, they are quite expensive since I don't need LCD screen itself, the screen itself is just fine)
If someone has and idea where to get it/search for it, it would be great.
Thanks
you bought it with broken glass? Why you just don't return it?
Send it back to ASUS, and see what they will charge you to replace the glass.

Yep, I've already asked Asus.
Asus said go to the authorized service center in your city. That authotized official service center said $400 for repair
Not sure if its any help to you but i'm just waiting a reply from Asus for the cost of replacement glass hopefully have it at some point today
same here, the glass is cracked on my ATP. and its only like 1 week old. SO FRUSTRATING!!!. but im trying to look for the replacement glass as well cuz the lcd itself is not broken but haven't found anything yet, i called asus to see what they would say but all they said was to RMA it. and they would have someone "check it out" and see if it will cover under my warranty. i didn't break it intentionally, i received the unit with a bend on above the power connector so it was difficult to plug in the connector. i didnt see it as a big issue, until i plug it in and the bend on the connector bent upwards and cracked my screen (gorilla glass my ***!!!). So knowing big companies like asus they arent going to cover my ATP and if they do offer to repair it, it will be some ridiculous price. and i been looking for a replacement glass but nothing . keep this thread going and post if you do find something, im afraid that since the ATP is still backordered everywhere that companies and independent companies arent going to have the replacement parts for awhile. hopefully this isnt the case and we can get something soon.
I'd say a SquareTrade warranty is an excellent investment for this tablet. $70 (after 30% coupon) for 2 years of drop protection is a bargain. I've already dropped my Prime once . Luckily, all I have to show for it is a scratched corner (it was in a case).
You can get a SquareTrade warranty within 90 days, so pretty much everyone is still eligible.

I always shirk silly insurance things, but SquareTrade is awesome. I personally don't use it, I'm confident in how I treat my possessions (accidents can always happen, but...), but it is amazing to see a relatively cheap service that covers most personal faults.
And yeah, I dunno what I'd do if my screen was already broken. We won't start seeing parts or units for parts for some time...
Same problem here.
They designed TF201 such way, that the glass is 1 mm ahead of frame (not like on ipad) so during the hit, glass takes all the damage on itself.
Asus must do something about that because everyone will drop their unit someday.
Cracked screen
This just happened to me too. Pulled my Prime out and opened it up to discover a hair line fracture all the way across the screen. Tablet has never been dropped and always stored in a padded case folded up against the keyboard/dock like a laptop. Contacting Asus to see what my options are. The crack is so fine I didn't even notice till I went to fold it back up. I was gonna post a video, but don't have 8 posts yet. But if you search youtube for "asus transformer prime cracked screen" it'll come up.
Clearly there is a serious issue with all these cracked screens with people using docks. I think ASUS should address this... I dont think I will get a dock anymore.

I think it is definitely an issue.
It's happening because there's not enough padding on the front end of the keyboard IMO, it only has that one little rubber thing.
My Prime is in a minisuit, which actually jumps to the other extreme: it won't quite close all the way. But I think this is the only reason I have not opened it and found a cracked screen, even though I toss it around and generally try not to baby it.
They need more support opposite the docking mechanism, it's causing the top-end of the Prime to squish down especially at the corners while the bottom-end has no more room to get closer to the keyboard. These broken screens are the result.
You could use a case like me or even just put some little rubber tabs on the corners of the keyboard to prevent this happening, but it's ridiculous considering it's constantly pictured as such a netbook replacement and using it like such could damage it.

Just a suggestion to everyone with a cracked screen--I know this isn't the most convenient option, but I think it might be the cheapest one you are going to find. From my experience, hot items like this with broken glass still sell for about 80% for their original value on ebay. I haven't checked to see what broken primes are going for right now, but it might be worth checking out. Sell for 400, but new for 500--about 100 to fix the screen.

Doesn't it only cost about $70 at repair centers or whatever? Guess it depends on your location and situation...
Just wondering
Did anyone with broken glass have a screen protector applied?

I think that's the problem most people are having--they are getting repair quotes of like $400 instead of $70. If you find a chain with that kind of price, please post it!
Another broken screen
Just took my TF201 out of it's padded laptop bag this morning to find a crack across the corner of the screen. No dropping, no rough handling - it just appeared seemingly overnight. After weeks of frustration with random reboots and app crashes (which were only solved yesterday with the 9.4.2.15 update) I think I've had my fill of this unit.
Update - And, yes, the unit was docked when this occurred.
Final update: Contacted Asus about repairing the screen and was put in touch with a service provider in Sydney. Total cost (incl. parts, labour, and shipping): $400. When I responded that I might as well buy a new tablet the receptionist replied "That's right."
Wow I just bought a dock which I greatly debated on getting. I may have to return it after all. I don't wanna end up with a cracked screen.

Where to buy replacement LCD panel

I have a defective screen in my TF201 which is out of warranty, so I am looking to replace it.
After taking apart my prime, I found that it is a Hannstar HSD101PWW2 which no one, not even eBay, seems to stock/sell. There is one retailer in the UK that sells it for £47 (about $75 CAD) which is a great price, though they charge £80 ($126 CAD) to ship it here.
Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might be able to purchase these?
I found one site, however I'm not 100% sold on buying from them since I can't seem to find reviews or opinions on it anywhere.
http://www.os-store.com
Here's a link to the part itself: http://www.os-store.com/new-a-hannstar-10-1-lcd-led-display-screen-panel-hsd101pww2-a00.html
It seems fine, there's just ZERO information about this store on the internet. No one posting in forums asking about it, no one complaining, no advertising anywhere... it's really strange.
Any opinions? Experiences?
Well, tried os-store.com and what a mess that was... Assured me they had it in stock, told me it shipped, then a week later told me it tested faulty and offered me a refund. Not very trusting of Chinese shops when it comes to this stuff...
No one seems to stock this thing - any suggestions?
Replace with TF700? Wait for Note 10.1? Nexus 10 potentially?
Agh..
When I looked into doing this I came to the conclusion that the screen consisted of three parts the lcd panel, the touch digitiser and the glass. This may or not be accurate, it was hard to find all the components. My screen was cracked, it worked for a while then the lcd panel failed. I think from memory the touch digitise was still working when I hooked it up via hdmia. I sent it back to asus for a paid repair.

Sadly my problem is that the LCD panel was defective from day one, no problem with my digitizer/glass at all. I got flicker like crazy for the first little while and then ended up having permanent black bars running across the screen.
The repair on it through ASUS is $300, however I'd rather spend $300 towards a new tablet with warranty rather than blow it on another panel that isn't guaranteed/warrantied at all after the repair. Thinking I might wait for the TF700 to arrive in Canada, however people are saying the same issues exist with that device (browser lag, FC's, etc) so I'm not sure what my best course of action is.
I'd like to avoid ASUS if at all possible, but they make the highest-performance tablets right now even if the firmware for them is terrible.

Did you get your refund? I like to know as my company recently did business with these.
Yes, I got a refund however I wouldn't deal with them again. It's not good business practice to sell products that you don't actually have stock of.
You might order something from them and wait months before it gets to you (if at all) because they order it after you buy it, then they have to wait for it to arrive, then they ship it to you... Not good.

[Q] Where to buy a new screen assembly for N9005 in the UK?

I'm looking to fix a cracked screen on an N9005. I don't really want to go down the route of trying to take off the top layer of glass as I've heard the success rate for that is really low so I'm looking at picking up a whole new assembly, digitiser, lcd, the lot.
Obviously I've tried scouring a certain well known auction site and I'm keeping in eye on a couple of phones that I might be able to use to remove a working screen but I wondering if there was a certain site that people used? Ideally in the UK but if not then I'll happily wait for a shipment from China.
Cheers!

Ive been through all this pain a couple of months back, and been scourging the whole internet space for a decent, trustworthy, and safe replacement part.
Then I finally made the plunge with an ebay seller from UK.

The housing is genuine, and you have all things ready for replacement in case you have a cracked screen and damaged digitizer - like me.
I had really no big pain doing the replacement - pulling out all the components from the old motherboard, and replacing it onto the new, shipped one.
One note here, which I realized later on, if for some reasons you wanted to change the color of your note3, like I would not have minded going black from white, you can purchase it of the color of your choice, and later on buy a cheap battery cover to complete the transformation. Since I realized this only after purchasing my housing, and I really dont mind my white note3, I was okay. Just to act as a whitleblower, in case...
And for the story, my camera now has bits of glass cracked inside. I am still trying to find a suitable replacement rear camera module... I still have no reply on my post here, and still on the hunt for a decent, genuine one.
Good luck to you.
