Exchanging Primes at Office Depot? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Has anyone had any luck exchanging the Prime at Office Depot? I am really sorry I bought mine there!
Why is it that Best Buy and Amazon are exchanging and other stores aren't? I was never happy with my Prime, but since it was the first tablet I had used, I just thought that was the way it was supposed to be. Sure learned from that!!

Not going to happen if you are over the return policy period. I bought mine on OD online store. I tried to return a few weeks ago after calling CS and explaining everything that is going on with the tablet and what BB is doing to satisfy customers. No luck. Off to eBay we go.

Best buy exchange

I got my prime and love it, but need to exchange because of some light bleed and strange battery issues. Has anyone exchanged at best buy? How does that work?

You have 14 days from delivery to return you tablet, problem is that they don't have them in the retail stores, or at least not in NJ. Good luck finding one, they are also not available online.

I got mine exchanged no problem; as long as you're within 14 days of the arrival date there won't be any problems. I just walked in, showed the guy the few dead pixels I had, and then he refunded my card for it. They won't have em in stock though, so then they just order you another one from the website. Kinda sucks having to wait all over, bit it'll be worth having a fully functioning tab.
Ps: I was rooted before I exchanged so I backed up all my stuff using titanium to an sd card then unrooted and factory reseted. I'd definitely recommend that if you're rooted.

This evening I called BB to return my tablet due to the no GPS and a slight bleeding on the too right of the tablet, the customer service rep told me that a replacement could not be shipped, and that it could be exchanged at a retail store. The problem is that there are none at the retail stores. So, how is it that the store will order you one on-line when they are not available on-line?
Has anyone here returned a Prime for a refund that was ordered online? I'm wondering if they give any trouble with refunding the shipping charges.
I returned my by calling customer service. They immediately shipped me a new one over the phone and told me to take my defective one to a store once the new one shows up.
The new one came in 2 days (this was during the last week of December). It was really painless and easy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are in route to the store. I purchased one on best buy for ship to store this past weekend and it had an estimated delivery of 1/14/12. Then I tried to order a second one the next day using the same method and they would not let me send it to the store. I could choose site to store but then every location showed as unavailable. I took this to mean that maybe they are already in route to the stores so they don't want you placing additional site to store orders. I am just guessing but it seems funny they allowed me to order one site to store and later I HAD to choose shipping to my house to get one even though site to store was still available to click.

And yet I have had to get the public defender team on my side to get them to ship me one, and that was under duress.
It would be really nice if they had some consistency.
I returned my Prime to Best Buy after it went into a never-ending boot loop on day 15. I was concerned they would not accept the return after their stated 14-day return policy for tablets, but they did not challenge this at all after I described the problem.
The bad news is when I returned it to the Best Buy store the Prime was not available either in the store (or in any store in the state) nor for online ordering. They gave me a credit, and said I could reorder another one myself when they became available. <Heavy Sigh>
The good news is that the Office Depot site allowed me to order a Prime online (although it was initially showing as backordered). Lo and behold the next day the order was processed and I should have a Prime in 2 days. Just in time for ICS!
Let's hope the second (and not the third) Prime is the charm!
Just be aware that Office Depot does not allow returns on Tablets only exchanges.

GARY!!! - Where are the Primes?

Bought my first Prime from Gamestop in January, returned mostly because of light bleed, but also WiFi/GPS was horrible. Bought second Prime beginning of February, but it has WiFi/BT issues, so I'm going to return it also.
I've read so many positive reviews that I'm hoping my next Prime will be great, and looking forward to exchanging it... not just a refund.
BUT I CANNOT FIND PRIMES ANYWHERE LOCALLY!!
Given the fact that the Primes have an awesome less then 1% failure rate, why are they not on the shelves at retailers? Why are the retailers not sure when, or even if, they will get more stock?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Best Buy couldn't even order me one. I was able to order mine from Tiger though and it should arrive tomorrow after being on backorder for a week.

if you want a prime go to nowinstock.net and resister and get notified when its in stock somewhere online
far and away the easiest way
Thanks knives. I thought that site was only for online vendors, who are moving whatever inventory that managed to get their way through the supply chain.
I had no idea that site provided local retail availability!!!
It is an interesting question though... Where are the primes? It seems as though availability is getting worse, not better. Has Asus decided the beta period is over, and is now switching to produce production models?
No joke... I sent mine back to Amazon after soft bricking, for a new replacement... ****, 64GB Primes are 4 -6 weeks out.
I hope they are doing some big time quality control improvement, and the new ones, when they do come out will be problem free.

They claim it is because that they don't know when they get more in stock so they don't want to fill in more orders.

no idea why anyone would want to buy it locally, unless you like wasting time and money. no tax with amazon and the easiest return system ever.
i order with amazon prime and get it the next day for 3.99...truly amazing service
If you go to Staples website and search for Asus transformer prime, you won't get results. The only way to find the tablet is to use google and search for staples asus transformer prime. I think that Staples is gearing up to stop selling the device completely.
Couple that with my 2 local staples returning all of their stock to the warehouse and I'm starting to think that asus is going to slowly stop selling the prime. Would make sense with all of the issues it has.
It makes business sense to stop selling the device and get out the new units with "improved wireless" ASAP so they can stop eating all the costs of having to deal with their mistake on the TF201.

Seems I was a bit premature giving thanks to Knives. (By the way, I'm an Amazon Prime member)
NowInStock.net only shows online retailers. Given enough margin, online retailers will sell anything.
What is strange is every local retailer that carried the Prime is now telling me the same story:
They've heard of problems with the Prime
They've had a lot of returns of the Prime
They have no estimate of when, or if, they will get new stock
Not just one, but all of them: BestBuy, HHGRegg, GameStop and even Staples!
Since Gary has confirmed the Prime has less than 1% failure rate, which is AWESOME, it just seems strange that no local retailers are expecting new stock. If these things are flying off the shelves, why don't any retailers have them or at least an ETA?
The TFP is exactly what I want. For me, higher resolution "2048xwhatever" is just too small on a 10" display, plus it will be slower.
Even Apple products are not this constrained after two months, where people camp out and wait for them.
Its been two months, and retailers are saying due to problems we're not sure when we'll get more?
Ofcourse, there is always the extermely remote possibility that Gary is not telling us the truth. That retailers have suffered from such a high return rate, they have decided not to carry that SKU anymore.
Which I'm sure is not the case. I'm sure Gary will post here tomorrow and clear things up.

@Swift, howdy , I see your located in C-Stat. I actually called the BB here in C-Stat today to see if there were any Primes available after returning my 2nd one last weekend. The rep told me they could have 2 avail by tomorrow and to call in the morning. Just a heads up if your looking bro.
Also guys, I called the BB in my hometown and on 2 different occasions they told me they were waiting on the "new batch" of primes b/c of all the problems they have been having with them. No info as to when this "new batch" is hitting stores though.

HOWDY!
Thanks, but I'm replacing my 64GB Grey, which as far as I know BB doesn't carry. Besides, I'm getting a full replacement from Amazon... whenever they get some again.
With the law suit happening (and probably winning), it'd be smart for Asus not to ship any new primes.

I guess you missed the seperate paragraph, which was in ALL CAPS, that said:

Some people don't mind spending a little extra money and time, to buy something locally. But since you have no idea why that would happen, its not valid. Guessing you have no use for GPS or BT also.

I Googled Staples and TF201 and found it on their site. Checked local availability a couple days ago, and there were a couple stores with stock. Returning my Prime tomorrow. Re-checked Staples, no local availability. Plus if you check their main site, they don't even acknowledge TF201 as an item.
Must be because its so poplular, they don't want to sell it.
We can't help but feel that we're being lied to by Asus. These things are f'd up and being sent back as fast as they can ship them. Very disappointed in Asus for this massive f'up. 1% failure rate my a$$. I was totally ready to accept a unit w non functioning GPS (as I won't use it), but screen bleed out the a$$! no. And still a locked bootloader!

I know how you feel (except I would use the GPS). But I'm sure local retailers are wrong, and a boat-load of fully functional TFP's are on their way to retailers.
I bet the retailers got caught up in reading XDA posts and didn't pay attention to their actual return rates, which are less than 1%, like Gary said.
Seriously looking forward to Gary's reply. I know he has a couple PM's, but with less than 1% defects, spending 30 seconds addressing this thread will clear things up for a lot of existing and potential customers.
NCIX in Canada shows >53 in stock of 32 and 64 gb versions. I bought one there last month and it was such a hassle returning. I had to demonstrate all issues to the service guy and he was very reluctant to take it back until he got the ok from ASUS. I won't be buying my next tablet from them. Their return policy is horrible.
I am awaiting confirmation on this forum that a new batch is on its way.

Don't buy Transformer Prime from Memory Express in Canada

I bought the Prime from Memory Express in Richmond (Great Vancouver area) in Canada. I bought the 64 gb in full price of $599.99 plus Canadian tax. Somehow, they said that it is final sale when I want to go exchange my defective tablet! Then I looked at my receipt, it really says final sale.. Canadian buyers be aware!
Edit: the reason why I posted this thread is because one of the xda members in the other thread made me realize it was very unfair that they didn't even offer exchange for a defective product. I sent out a complaint form last night about how other stores offered exchange/refund but they didn't. Guess what?!!! The manager offered me a full refund!!! thrilled!
does it say final sale before you got your invoice?
if it doesn't you can actually sue them o_o;
but worst comes to worst you can always RMA the tablet with asus
I returned one of mine to Gamestop which no returns if opened. Long story short i called and explained the problems and the guy told me to call back later to speak To the manager.
A light bulb in my head went off. So..... i sent my GF who is gifted in the right areas to return it lol. I figured id have a much better chance. So basically the kid returned it no probs lol. They mail a check though. So basically don't give up.
I got my next prime from Staples which is 14 day hassleep free return.

I didn't sign the form. Did you pre-order yours? I didn't do the pre-order; they had few on sale that day..so I bought it.. BUT GUESS WHAT?! I complaint to them last night and now the manager offered me a refund!

Me To edmonton store but my prime works works no problems other then no 5 ghz on wireless n so it isn;t realy n speeds.
But i got mind in xmas so they told me it was a big backorder that was why.
I bought mine from m.e. i pre ordered mine. Never signed any papers, did know know final sale policy until i went to return it. When i went to return it, they showed me the final sale on the receipt.
I think they should have mentioned final sale it when i bought it.
WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING EVER FROM M.E.
just go in a talk to the manager they will take it back. most will
I am already past the 7 days deadline, i am sure they wont do it now.
I think its better option to just avoid the memory express and buy from some big box store with good reputation and good standard return policy such as futureshop and bestbuy.

Don't worry. Still try to complaint. I bought mine a month ago and still got a refund offer yesterday. I am sure you can too!
This is what I wrote to them:
Horrible Customer Service.
I bought 64GB Asus EeePad Transformer Prime on Jan 30, 2012. I bought it in full price of $599.99 plus tax. It should be common sense that when people buy some in full price, then it is not final sale. Therefore, I bought the tablet without noticing that it is final sale price.
After two weeks of usage, i started to realize problems with the tablet. The tablet experiences random reboots, random screen flickering and weak wifi. When I googled this problem, I realize that many people are experiencing the same problem. I went to store to get an exchange. However, they now told me it is final sale! All the other stores are not final sale! I posted my experience with your customer service on xda developer forum; many people were shocked by your policy! Most people who got problematic tablets have returned and exchanged their tablets. It is only me who can't!
Asus said that my problem is due to software problem so I should wait for updates that they will give out later. They did have two recent updates but it still has not solved all of my problems and it is the same for many people too.
Let me tell you guys, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime is a defective product or a product with minimal quality control. Here are all the people with problems:

I would like to offer you the opportunity to exchange your unit for a new one if this is to your liking, otherwise we can offer you a full refund. Could you also please provide us with a contact phone number as the number you provided is unreachable. I went to the memory express se location. Manager knew who I was when I told him.
He apologized for not making me aware of final sale at the purchase time and took the tablet back without asking any more questions.
Great customer service.

I beat Asus.

So, Asus and I have been going back and forth since December 26th. It started when the charging cable that I received was defective. I simply called them and asked for a replacement, and the troubles started there. It started by them wanting me to pay to send them the cable, because "my warranty only covers one way shipping." That's simply ridiculous, as the product was defective out of the box. I went back and forth with them about that for weeks.
After those two weeks or so (with my charging cable still not replaced), I realized that my Prime had extremely poor wifi and GPS performance, as many others have complained, and my screen was bleeding in two places. Once again, I called Asus and they started to give in and decided to give me a shipping label for my charging cable. I then brought up the poor WIFI, GPS and screen problems, so they told me to send the whole unit in for service.
I sent my Prime in and they had it for two weeks. After those two weeks, it was shipped and I was happy. When I received the Prime again, I noticed a brand new charging cable and charger. I took the Prime out of the box, booted it, and they fixed nothing on the tablet at all. Still poor WIFI, still no GPS and the screen still was bleeding.
I immediately called Asus, they apologized, and sent me a shipping label again. I shipped the tablet out the next morning. The tablet was received and at their repair facility with the status "Waiting on internal advise." That was fine and dandy, until two weeks later it was still at that status. I called them and they told me they escalated my repair, and I would be contacted soon.
A week passed and no one contacted me. I called again, they told me the same thing. So, yesterday I called and threw a fit to both Asus and Best Buy, and Asus had no clue what was going on, and Best Buy told me to get my unrepaired tablet sent back to me and they would handle it. I called Asus once more, and they told me someone tried to contact me and to check my email. I checked my email, and I received this from their corporate office:
Dear Valued Customer,
We have your ASUS TF201 in repair process. We apologize for the delay in service and the inconvenience this may have caused you. Due to non-availability of the replacement parts or units up to this time, we would like to offer you an option to buy back the unit for the full price based on the purchase invoice. If you accept this refund please provide a copy of the invoice in PDF or JPG format and attach to this email. This will also require the return of all accessories to the address provided below. Once these are received we will process and mail a check to you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I replied that I bought a third party warranty (SquareTrade) and a docking station, both of which were useless at this point, and asked if I would be receiving a refund on those too. An hour later, I received a reply with them saying that I will be refunded for the tablet, the dock, the warranty and any other accessories that were bought for the tablet. I emailed them my proof of purchase about an hour ago, and am waiting for my check.
Needless to say, I won. I absolutely despise Asus now. I have one of their desktops, I love it, and one of their OG Transformers which I've never had a problem with. From now on, I'm staying away from Asus products.
Does anyone have an recommendations as to what tablet should be my next purchase? I want something comparable to the Prime, but I'm staying away from Asus at all costs. I'm in no rush to purchase another tablet, so if anyone knows of anything coming out that would be equal or better, let me know please.

I think yours is the first case where Asus voluntarily offered to buy a Prime back. It's odd that they didn't offer to send you a new one; they've done that a couple of times. I wonder if some type of buy back program is part of Gary's "big announcment."

The Acer A510's going up for pre-sale in the next couple of days for $449. It's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522707&page=6
NewEgg also has the G-Tab 16GB and 32GB refurbs on sale for $276/361 and it would be a decent tablet to hold you over until later in the year when there are more next-gen choices available. The G-Tab has a great dev community.
The Amazon pre-order link is up but it doesn't give an ETA...

Really bro, I dont see this as "winning"...
The only thing I want them to do is to give me a working product, I wanted a cool working Android Tablet with Tegra3. If I had wanted the money in my wallet, I wouldn't have bought it.
I am so pissed off, I bought it because I was about to travel to Argentina for a few months, I never thought that I would be here sitting right beside the router to have WiFi or renting cars with GPS units because of the crappy internals. And I have no chance of getting a refund here...
I wouldn't say he won, but justice has been served at the least.
Here I am with a defective tablet as far as WiFi/GPS goes and while I could try to get a refund for it, I want a tablet in my possession and for the moment, this is the BEST tablet on the market in my eyes. It's just unfortunate that ASUS isn't living up to the quality as a manufacturer that I've previously known them to be.
So while I'm happy with being the owner of MY tablet, I know that's not going to last given ASUS's upcoming products that will place the Prime in certain obsolescence.
At the very least, other owners who are not happy with their Primes are being given the option to review their purchase.
OP, I'm glad you got your money back, and really appreciate the info
but it's not really winning because of what another commenter said
getting rid of the tablet is not success, getting one that actually works is.
One angle I've been looking at recently, Asus employees have it pretty bad right now. Asus has dumped hastily built hardware in the market, and made their lives much ****tier. That maybe explains the sudden buy back

I think yours is the first case where Asus voluntarily offered to buy a Prime back. It's odd that they didn't offer to send you a new one; they've done that a couple of times. I wonder if some type of buy back program is part of Gary's "big announcment."

I figured they haven't offered many people the option of buying back their tablet. I'm happy mine turned out the way it did, honestly. Thank you for the info about the up and coming Acer tablet. I'm just not so sure I'd like an Acer brand product either..

The only thing I wanted in the end was a functioning quad core (at the minimum) tablet and something that I know would last me a while and be happy with. Sadly, I can't get that from Asus. I classify it as winning simply because I can now wash my hands of Asus and get a newer and better tablet when they come out and hopefully deal with a company who can support their product.

Honestly, I'm not happy about the fact that I no longer have a tablet. Though, two months without a tablet and a week or so with one, didn't really make me too attached to it. I am in no rush to get another tablet. I'm going to be playing the waiting game until something that impresses me comes out.

Honestly, I would have settled for a working tablet if I knew it would've lasted me a few years. The fact that Asus has about the worst service I've dealt with, I'm happy to wash my hands with them. I'd say I won in that aspect.

where are all the prime?

I'm looking to buy the new transformer prime and couldn't find them any where at the local stores, Bestbuy, Brandsmart, etc...What's going on? They're out of stock everywhere. where did you get yours?

They should have been readily available in your local stores since January, but for some reason Asus have been only producing a few here and there so your best bet is online here is a link you can go to what online store has the prime available at the moment:
http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/tablets/asus/transformerprime/
Remember always verify first about their return window, so incase you buy a substandard prime you can easily get an exchange or get your money back with ease.
check Gamestop stores. the ones that carry tablets. I know the brick n mortar store in my area has them in stock now. I called the other day looking for a keyboard dock. they said no docks but plenty of the actual tablet.
The nowinstock link will def. help you find one, that's how I got mines
I got mine at a local Best Buy. Every local store - of every possible chain - reported them as out of stock when I checked online. I listened to some advice my wife gave me....i called and checked. I was lucky enough to get them to hold the last one they had in stock for me.
Just got about 1000 in Dixon's Retail in the UK. Only the second delivery since launch. I think they are slowly coming out.
Amazon.com
I had the same problem but wasn't going to spend almost $100 extra by going through amazon. I waited for the price to go back to retail for over a month but no dice. Finally I checked out an old faithful; Newegg had mine to me (Tallahassee, Florida) in a couple days. No tax. Perfect Prime. Amazon was great for my accessories.

I got mine from Amazon for 500. You finding them for 400?
I got mine from a best buy mobile
I got mine from Amazon, but have seen them on display at my local Staples. not sure if they actually had any in stock though.
Just ordered mine from gamestop online - they have them in stock
Best Buy was my retailer of choice because I had a faulty Xoom still under their extended warranty. I had a couple months till expiration so I waited, hoping Asus' production would mature and supply increase, which didn't really happen as well as I expected.
If you choose Best Buy, use their app too. Search at least daily for TF201 and then click to show the locations they have it in stock. That and nowinstock.net worked for me. Call BB to verify they actually have it and reserve it if they do.
