Google Wallet - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

I know people have asked questions similar to this before, but all of those threads seem to be from a while ago.
Does anyone know if there is anyway to get google wallet? We have NFC, why can't we use it?
Is there any other option to pay with NFC?
Thanks

Both Google and VZW say it's not our fault or we don't know, I asked a rep why they listed Google wallet as an advantage of having a smart phone but it wasn't offered and I got a non answer.
For other NFC VZW is part of IRIS which just launched but only in Salt Lake City and maybe one other place and it should be active on Inc 4G's there I think, it was part of the last update.

Isis tells me my device isn't comparable, I got the otb update at the beginning of the month. But it says I might need a new SIM card for it to work.
For anyone who wants to store gift cards like on google wallet or apple passbook, pass wallet does a great job.

You will need a new SIM, there is an encryption method used by Isis stored on the SIM.

[Q] NFC Questions

I am coming over from an iPhone, so the whole NFC thing is still new to me. I am specifically wondering about the NFC on the HTC One (for AT&T)
I've read some articles lately and I seem to just keep getting confused.. Google Wallet, ISIS, MasterCard Paypass, Visa Paywave etc.
Basically my question is this: I have a Visa card that I would like to use for NFC payments on my HTC One. First, is this possible. And second, are there enough merchants to even make this worthwhile?
Whenever I am out, I see a bunch of contactless payment terminals (think of the ones at McDonalds). A lot of those say the words "PayPass" on them. So would this mean that if I use a Visa card that I will not be able to use this terminal?
I am just trying to plan ahead to the first time I try to use NFC to pay for something. I dont want to look like the techno-idiot that doesn't know how to do things and just stand there keep trying to use my phone.
Thanks for any help!

You're going to be disappointed, and you can thank AT&T for that.
It's ISIS or nothing.

With AT&T, all phones have to use ISIS for NFC payments.
Unless, you're rooted, and you or a generous developer has figured out how to install Google Wallet on your device. I have it on my GS3(AT&T) it tells the play store that you're using a Galaxy Nexus(Maguro) and allows you to download Google Wallet. I don't have a credit card to test it out with though But it worked!
TL;DR: US Carriers are douches, and force upon you their products.
1. Don't know, wait until it gets out to see if it works.
2. Yes--in fact the Paypass places can be used with NFC.

Google Wallet w/ no root?

With the recent update, is it possible that a new sim card (like maybe the one that works with Isis) would allow the tap to pay feature?
In order to use Google wallet, you need NFC, but not a different SIM card

I was just chatting with Verizon, and asked why Google Wallet would not tap n pay, he said I needed a NFC Sim card. He is sending me one at no charge. What is the difference between the NFC sim and the NFC battery? Why was the S4 not shipped with a nfc sim? I am not even sure if this will work... will let you know.
Thanks! Keep us updated.
The SIM card that Verizon sends you is for their app that they use for mobile transactions, is is. You need a special SIM for that to work. For Google wallet, you don't need that. All you need is a NFL capable device and you are good to go!

As with past experiences with Big Red I am not surprised that the customer service rep has no clue as to the actual service they offer. I have installed the new Google Wallet on my S4, with the NFC battery that came with the phone ( maybe someone can explain to me what the battery has to do with NFC? ). But I dont see an option to use tap n pay. I am rooted with Safestrap, and was contemplating installing the mod for GW, but now I see it has been abandoned. If I am missing something, maybe someone could point me in the right direction? I will get the sim that I ordered when I return from vacation, but I doubt it will have any effect. Would there be any other benefit from using the different sim card?
P.S. I would like to see this NFL sim card...

Since you are rooted and have SS installed you can install a functional tap to pay by 2 different methods. I have provided links to both methods below. The older method appears to be more stable. Hope that helps.

If you look at the thread with Gw 2 they have abandoned it... GW 1 is still buggy...
I have been using the 1st version due a while now an it has been working flawlessly

Has anyone used Google Wallet to pay with NFC?

I just downloaded google wallet and added my debit card. Is it really as simple as just enabling NFC and tapping and paying? I've never used it before.
Mods: please move to Q/A. Wasnt paying attention when I posted.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Note 3
I'm pretty sure this is blocked on Verizon.
Really? Why would you say that when NFC works with everything else?

I used it 2 times on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I got it to work at one McDonald, but it wouldn't at another one. You'll need to find places that will accept Google Wallet. One app I use to find those places is MasterCard PayPass Locator.

It was blocked on the Note 2 also but there were work arounds to get it working by editing build.prop to mimic a Galaxy Nexus (only Verizon phone that wallet is allowed on AFAIK). I still have Wallet working on my Note 2 with this hack and used it quite frequently but it requires root of course.
Once we get root on Note 3 I imagine it won't be long before we'll get a Wallet thread with a work around.

isis

any way to make Isis work since it won't work on rooted phone or other options?
Someone may eventually come up with a workaround but I'd just use google wallet, it's better anyhow.
When I got my g3 at the Verizon store, the usually pretty knowledgeable sales guy told me I needed a new sim for the g3, that my old vgnexus 4gLTE sim would work (yes, it did) but with that old sim in I would NOT have any NFC at all. No google wallet, no Isis, no bump to share, Nada. He said that is because the new sim enabled NFC on the Verizon LG G3.
He also said I would need ISIS, since it was going to succeed where Wallet had obviously failed. Hard to like Verizon, isn't it...but that unlimited grandfathered data...sigh.
I'm still using my SIM from my galaxy nexus and I have used Google wallet many times with my g3.
I'm pretty sure with wants goin on in Iraq Isis will be getting a new name soon.

I can believe that a new sim needed for NFC to access the Secure Element, but standard NFC should work independent of the the sim (at least it did on my galaxy s3). Wallet only "failed" because all major carriers, save for Sprint, locked them out of the Secure Element to begin with. NFC Host Card Emulation, introduced in KitKat, solves this problem and permits Wallet to work on any phone with KitKat and NFC. Even if ISIS worked on rooted devices, I would not use it because of the dirty tactics it was born from.

Isis works if you install xposed with root cloak module.
Same here. I have no intention of ever running ISIS or whatever they change the name to. I use Google Wallet routinely and prefer merchants that accept it, including gas stations.
Works with all my Nexus devices, even the old Verizon Galaxy Nexuses once they are upgraded to KitKat via Roms like CM or Vanir.
root cloak then it is!
work like charm.

Yep, RootCloak is awesome. I personally use Google Wallet, except on small purchases since ISIS is doing the "spend $1, get $1 back" promotion until the end of December now. So a $1 drink at McDonald's ends up costing me $.08 (NY sales tax) haha.

Verizon blocks use of the NFC secure element in the phone for things like Google wallet. There is a secure element on the SIM for ISIS. Verizon argued to the acc that they could certify the secure element in the phone was safe so they block it's access to their network. You can beam photos and stuff phone to phone....but anything done with it over the air must use the secure element on the SIM. I know there was a class action lawsuit against Verizon for this becaus they have a financial interest in blocking Google wallet vs making us use ISIS.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
So, the newer Google Wallet doesn't seem to require access to any secure element, on phone or sim, anymore since KutKat, right. The Verizon guy was just wrong, Wallet and bump to share would have worked fine with the old sim, just not ISIS ?

He lied. You might need a new SIM for ISIS because they store the secure element in the SIM not the phone.
Wallet emulates secure element now and doesn't need secure element on the phone or the SIM. The only real requirement is that you be running KitKat because touch to pay doesn't work on any older version of the OS.
NFC is built into the phone.
If you want ISIS on a rooted phone use Xposed and Root Cloak.

Nexus 9 on Verizon

I know it has the radios, but has anyone been able to activate it on Verizon? They couldn't do it for me directly, so we tried activating a different tablet, cutting down the SIM, and sticking it into the 9. No dice...the cut SIM works fine in my Droid Maxx so I know it's not the the cut SIM, and the number shows up in my "about tablet" so the sim is being recognized, but there's no service.
Anyone have any luck yet and/or suggestions?

I sell Verizon, had my first customers come in with these tablets and tried the same thing (activated the SIM in an iPad). SIM in the Nexus will read the IMEI, but it shows NO network signal. On the phone with tier two tech support right now. Will report back when I have an answer!

My customer couldn't stick around long enough today for me to continue to trouble shoot. I'm going to continue on Monday when they get back from their Christmas travels! I'll for sure let you know whatever I'm able to solve as soon as I'm able to solve it! For sure not just you... I was worried for them as well, but didn't figure that the odds of TWO brand new tablets having the exact same issue, especially not when you say the same thing!
On a side note, I cannot WAIT to get my own one of these bad boys!

tried at verizon store .. he tried adding imei didnt work just gave me a sim card.
came home tried adding it on the website no dice..
switched the sim card from nexus 6 into nexus 9 no dice either.
if this all might not work i might just go and switch to tmobile ... have no service half the time but at least the stuff i want to use will work with no issue!!!!!! sick of VZW crap.

also my radio state is off and cant seem to be able to turn it on. did htc/google fuk something [email protected]?!?!?!
also any reason why factory image is missing modem from all of the files??!??
this thread is of great interest to me. Since this will really determine if I get a N9 LTE.
Also find the troubles interesting since a simple sim card swap worked with the N7 and is currently working with the N6.
I know Verizon won't do anything officially but doesn't stop us from getting our 6's running.

btw opened a case with google see if they know anything with verizon.
Looking into your account, I saw that you had contact support previously today (Case: 9-41030000*****) in regards to being unable to activate your Nexus 9 LTE tablet with Verizon. I wanted to let you know that your case has been escalated to the next tier of support and is currently being reviewed. You can expect a reply by email from either the previous agent or the Specialist who has reviewed your case, within the next 1 - 2 business days.
Thanks,
Heather

Actually didn't go to Walmart trying to use the Sim card which came from my nexus 6
And connected. 30$ is spent.. I guess I'll get to test them again.. But at home just like when I left them getting 2g
Glad I sparked interest in this...I'm confident now I'll get this figured out one way or the other now that xda members are on it lol.
FYI, someone just mentioned it seems like their radio state is off. I noticed this too...i installed the 4G switcher app just to see if I could get more info from it, and it defaults that the radio state is off.
I did get it to seem to turn on once or twice but it didn't actually do anything.
I'm just hoping this isn't something stupid where verizon has decided not to sell the nexus 9 so they are blocking it from their network.
I used this app to dial *#*#4636#*#* to access the radio when it was off. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer

Figured I'd try to chat with someone from Google...they don't know of any reason why the device shouldn't work on Verizon. Here's the transcript - http://pastebin.com/ZuhwvnAY

Yea the 4G switcher app gives the exact same info, and same thing showed when I tried what you did...seems like the radio is turned off, and it won't turn on.
My first thought is maybe google has the devices deactivating the radio when it detects Verizon but then they would have done the same with the 6 one would think.

Well the Google Play support guy says there's nothing on their end that he's aware of for why it wouldn't work on Verizon...I wouldn't see Google doing that, but I COULD see Verizon doing it haha.
One thing I am holding onto is that I ordered this the day it went on sale on the Play Store, so its just possible Verizon hasn't done something it needs to do to allow the connection. Its all conjecture for now though lol.
