Who said you can't BRICK an SGS2? I just did - download mode doesn't work - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short. Was on a custom rom. Factory Reset. Buggered everything up.
I can't get into recovery mode. And my download mode isn't working.
The original boot logo doesn't appear (with the triangle) -- it just goes STRAIGHT into download mode -- and Odin isn't recognizing the phone.
Would love for you guys to try and figure this one out lol

If you can get into download mode then there's hope. Try to remove battery for 1 minute and retry with odin, maybe replacing the usb cable can help. Also think about cleaning the phone's usb plug

Did the same thing once. Left it in download mode for an hour before I got to my PC. Reloaded the root zip using Odin and reflashed the ROM. Then it worked.

What do you mean "Left it in download mode for an hour before I got to my PC"
After an hour ODIN recognized it ?
That doesn't make any sense.
I have no issues getting it into download mode. The USB cable works fine. The drivers work fine. ODIN just isn't recognizing the phone once it's in download mode.
When the phone is off, and when you go into download mode, usually the start up / initial logo comes up with a triangle. In this case, it doesn't. When I turn it off for 30 mins and turn it back on and try to get into download mode -- it goes STRAIGHT to download mode (no initial login screen)
I have never encountered anything like this in all my years with android phones and hacking them.

Samsung sucks.

Just in case, if using a laptop, have you tried to power it off, remove the battery and wait a couple of minutes to fully remove all memory in the usb chips?

Guess in my case it was a soft brick. Try the USB Jig. You can search on the forum how to make one if you don't have the time to order one.

He's already in download mode, i dont see how a jig will help.
U can try reinstalling the drivers on the pc and try using another usb port or pc.

I am not sure it's the drivers. Why? Because my friend who works beside me has the drivers installed. He put his phone (exact same phone) into download mode and it connected fine. This means his drivers work.
It would do nothing when i connected while in download mode.
the jig is the last resort.
If the jig doesn't work, is it possible I am the first ever to brick a phone galaxy phone?

Try removing the battery.
While battery is removed, plug the usb.
Then insert battery.

Ps. May I ask WHEN and WHERE did you read GS2 is unbrickable?
there's a lotta people including myself who have had our galaxy s2's superbircked in the past (not fixable unless you replace mobo)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
(I sense a troll )

I've bricked mine twice...
Needed to send it back to Samsung the second time. Reinstalling drivers may work, didn't for me.

i will try
how much does it cost to send back?

download mode
pull out your battery an wait a while than try to enter to download mode if not work try again with an other battery (of your freind for example )
or you can just try this solution be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869203
yes usb jig this your last chance
good luck

Most of the time, though, the battery removal trick is sufficient, and most said "superbrick" would be fixed
if using adb.
You have to really screw things up to brick the phone, if using the good kernels/roms together...

Not actually true. It just needs to be a working micro USB cable. I use a generic micro USB cable (originally for a BlackBerry, I think) for all my flashing. Works fine.

Yes i tried all that with no luck i just cant get my phone connected to my laptoo if i could I
could unbrick
Check for Windoze updates if you're unable to get your PC & phone to recognise each other after trying the obvious (different USB ports, different cables, different versions of Odin, making sure Kies/its processes aren't running in Task Manager on PC. Try *all* of these).
This has solved the issue for a few people over the last week or so. Failing that, uninstall Kies from your PC, reboot, redownload it, reinstall it, reboot & try again.
If that doesn't work, try a different PC.

This method not required to connect your mobile to PC.
Just need external sdcard and ics based recovery
If you are ics recovery version , we can come from this issue.
1, download any ics ROM ( stock based ) and copy to your external sdcard.
2, root the mobile using this way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel
3, as per the above guide once you flashed cwm.zip , you will get cwm based recovery screen.
4, wipe system and cache
5, install the custom ROM from external sdcard
I believe this method will work for you.
All the best

I believe it won't since he bricked his device and can't even start the phone.
Do what MistahBungle said + make sure that you install Kies first so that you have the proper drivers for Odin.
i have tried this methed. copied all the files on to the sd card, inserted back into the phone put into recovery but would not read external sd card only internal comes up????
That's nice.
Now have you tried the other suggestions that have been made ? If your phone & PC can't/won't recognise each other, you need to fix that first. Forget about CW not working. It's not relevant. You're not going to fix this without an Odin flash and making that happen should be your focus/priority.

I'm having the same issue today, i flashed the siyah kernel beta and now recovery doesn't work and phone stays on Samsung logo.
I can get into download mode but pc says unrecognised device . It was working fine a few days earlier.
Unfortunately my Samsung USB cable appears to have vanished too but I don't see why my other cable shouldn't work as long as it supports data? Maybe the cable is the issue though??
Might be. Try the (many) suggestions on the first page. Any one of those could be/resolve the problem. In addition to those suggestions, you can also try uninstalling Kies on your PC, rebooting, re-downloading it, reinstalling it, rebooting & then seeing if your PC & phone recognise each other.
But definitely try those other suggestions first.

This is definitely NOT a cable issue. I have the same problem, and i too was using Siyah. It's something with the kernel.

You will need all the files, make sure Keis is not messing with Odin so check to make sure it's not running on the PC.
Have had this happen to me - keep the files safe and you will fix pretty much any brick u manage to do. Mine was in CM9 - dropped and battery fell out had to do the full repair job to fix.

HELP, Galaxy SII not connecting to pc via USB

hi boys and girls.
I have a problem here.,
I updated my Galaxy S II to ICS which made a mess of things. (crashes, freezes, force closes apps not working etc, so I decided to go back to Gingerbread.
It seemed to have worked until I got to the set up new phone screen at which point Im getting an error message that reads:
The application Google services framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
I plug it into my pc and it is not recognized., I cannot flash the rom again because my pc is not detecting my phone.
any advice?
thnx.
You should still be able to connect to your phone while it's in download mode in order to flash a new ROM. Or in CWM for that matter.
If you can't connect in either download or CWM, then unless you have the wrong drivers, your usb port is busted man.

by not recognized do you mean;
It does not charge or give any indication that the connection is made
or
it charges (may or may not give you USB file transfer option) but the pc says "drivers were not installed" even if you have the drivers installed already
i'm sure you're probably well beyond my knowledge with these things but just in case try debugging on and debugging off...

All drivers are installed and all my Galaxy Note is all good and kies sees it.
Thank you guys for all your help but I just solved the problem.
I went into download mode and using kies even though kies and my pc said no device was connected.
then I chose firmware upgrade and initialization., followed the onscreen instructions and now my GS2 is back in business.
the only thing is Im still stuck with ICS which sucks ass!! apps that used to work dont work anymore., phone crashes freezes and force closes.
now that I know how to fix it maybe I can find a working Stock Gingerbread ROM

I would try uninstalling Kies and then reinstall it. This should reinstall the drivers (when you connect the device via usb) and may fix the problem. There are different drivers for each device Sammy makes.

No, I wasnt able to do anything with the phone except put it into download mode.
To fix this you need to use the Kies software and then boot your phone in Samsung recovery now ( turn off the phone now press middle button + -ve volume key +power button) go to "tools" in Kies software then select "Firmware upgrade and initialization" wait for 30 sec and then disconnect the phone and restart the phone by keeping the power button pressed for 5 seconds till the phone restarts. once the phone comes back up connect the phone to the USB cable and it should work.
Note: This issue happened when i tried to upgarde my rooted phone from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 and it got stuck at 99%.
Please let me know if the post helped any one else

[Help] I think I completely bricked my device

What happened I was on build 38 of aokp (had devil kernel installed) and I tried to see if I could install notta's hybrid/tablet patch. I made a nandroid and figured I had Odin if anything went wrong. Well it didn't work and it didn't get passed the aokp bootscreen so I tried using notta's 3-finger bootloop breaker and well that's when things starting going really bad. I installed the cwm4 first then the aokp one then I tried installing build 40.1 of aokp. But I also installed gapps and a new devil kernel all at once. When I hit reboot now it would only boot into the devil recovery so I tried the aokp one again but now it won't leave the Samsung boot screen and now my computer won't recognize my phone. Nothing pops up on Odin either and I can't install the right drivers for Heimdall because it won't even see my device. So nothing I do is working I think I just completely bricked my phone :/
probably going to need a jig, search " fascinate download mode jig" in ebay.
I bricked my phone once. I uninstalled the drivers. Rebooted computer. Re-installed drivers and used Odin. Went ok for me.

You could also go to Device Manager, find the phone, and click Update Drivers.
You could download the drivers from droidstyle's guide or search for them on the forums. Also, you might try installing THS build 1 or 2 (also on droidstyle's guide) BEFORE you install anything else, that might prevent the boot looping problem. Also I wouldn't install so much at once, try one at a time. Hope I helped

Can't be done as the phone only keeps bootlooping the samsung logo. Also I can't even get into recovery because all it does it bootloop the samsung logo
Just to make sure the bases are covered, have you tried:
Different USB slot on laptop?
Different cable?
Download mode w/battery out?
Using a different computer?
Determined repeated attempts at rebooting computer, re-downloading and re-installing drivers, reattaching phone, etc., etc. until Odin recognizes the phone.........the way an insane person would do it?
You don't happen to be on win7 x64, do you?
If your phone goes into download mode, but doesn't appear in Odin, I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. When I've had this same problem in the past, this has always fixed it.
It seems like it's pretty hard to permanently brick these things.

Well, I have this experience while flashing my friend's phone and here what I've done:
-reboot my computer
-connect the phone, kill all kies related process (I'm using Windows) and start odin. If odin recognise your phone at this point, you are good to go else you might want to reinstall usb drivers.
-use full wipe odin files I found from internet (I got from the pirate bay with search key ics full wipe)

If Odin adds and removes quickly, this looks like your USB cable is dead, try flashing with another - Genuine- one
I had a similar issue while flashing my former SGS1: flashing process interrupted suddenly at 50%
A similar kind of thing happened to my phone as well when I was upgrading to 4.0.4 from gingerbread via Kies. The installation got stuck when the phone was in the download mode and I had no other option than to disconnect. But yours got stuck while using Odin. I would suggest you to flash the firmware again. I hope your phone goes into download mode now. As for the drivers, uninstall everything related to samsung from your PC and then reinstall it. DO NOT UPGRADE SAMSUNG KIES IF IT ASKS YOU TO DO SO! AS I TOLD YOU A SIMILAR THING HAPPENED TO MY PHONE. MY PC COULD'NT RECOGNIZE IT AND I REINSTALLED EVEYTHING AND IT FINALLY SHOWED SOME SIGN. MAKE SURE YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS FULLY DEACTIVATED WHILE YOU EXECUTE THE FLASHING OPERATION!

If Odin adds and removes quickly, this looks like your USB cable is dead, try flashing with another - Genuine- one
I had a similar issue while flashing my former SGS1: flashing process interrupted suddenly at 50%

first of all, while your phone is disconnected from USB cable, can you enter download mode?if no, then try to find someone that have JIG. else, as leech4 said, this might caused by your USB cable. OR might caused by your USB port of your PC. as i said earlier, try to repair your USB driver (not sammy USB driver, but your PC's usb driver). flash using ODIN, and kill kies services from task manager as kies will conflict with ODIN later. here i give you LSJ link(thanks to ApriliaM3) in case you don't have. extract the zip and use all the PDA, PHONE and CSC file. you can even use PIT to re-partition your system. (tested and proven to be working). good luck mate.:good:
I already uninstall all usb driver , and install back, it still cant work. my hf will restart every 5 sec. that why i cant connect properly. any suggestion ?

Talk to Samsung not us.
Next time do some research into your model and info on how to flash it properley before jumping in and screwing your device up.

Wow, I suspect this kind of brick or what so ever others called it. I've read some where, and they talking about JIG. If what they mean is the same like what I understood from my electronic knowledge, then you have to find someone that have JIG to do further troubleshooting directly from your board, not via usb. Well, I'm just saying. You might want to seek for other solution first since it's your device.
Cheers

Please help! Sudden brick :(

I have a note 2 rooted and on jellybean rom. I never took any update. My phone won't boot up or get into recovery. I can get into download mode but I can't get Odin to work. I've tried different USB ports and cables (have not tried different computers yet). When I plug in cable and phone to pc or outlet it gets stuck on the battery logo and circle. When I try to get into recovery it displays Samsung name off and on. I'm trying Odin back to stock but like I said it won't see my phone when connected. I will get a new cable ASAP to see if that makes a difference. I have pulled battery sim and sd several times to no avail. I will leave them out for the night and try again tomorrow. Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks ! I really appreciate it !

looks like you've gone through most of the steps. Have you tried reinstalling the samsung drivers? Plug it in and let it charge for a few hours? Maybe the battery is too low.
Thanks for your suggestion! I have reinstalled the drivers and restarted PC already. Last night I left battery sim and sd card out but today I will leave it charged for a few hours to see if it changes. I have also ordered an new OEM charger and battery to see if that helps. I am currently transferring all files and programs for returning it to stock to my sd card so I can try it on a different PC. I will keep you posted as to my progress. Thank you so much for your help!!

Hello,
I see that you state you can not get into recovery mode, But can you get it into download mode. If so you maybe able to use adb and push the pit file to it and then install the stock rom again.

I'm unfamiliar with the steps I need to take to do adb. I've only used Odin but to update my progress or lack thereof, I am still unable to get Odin (either version) to communicate with my phone when it is connected. I have tried both my pcs (they worked in the past). I have tried different USB cables and ports. Do you know the steps I need to take to use adb? I will google it and see what I find. I will update soon. Thanks again for your help!

If you phone will not connect with your computer in download mode as well as recovery mode. I do not think there is much you can do other then see if you can get it replaced. I had have run into an issue like this before. Once I was able to get into download mode and push out the stock recovery onto the phone. But if it will not go into download mode as well there is not much I think you can do.
It will go into download mode. When connected to the pc Odin won't see it. Do you think using adb would be pointless at this point? I have not used a new USB cable so I wanted to wait at least for that to arrive along with an OEM battery I ordered to see if that helps any or is that pointless as well? Also does it matter where you store Odin on your pc ? (Internal vs on a sd card? Thanks for your help ! I may just need to send it in but wanted to try everything I could come up with.

I would first try the new cable and but it into download mode and try to push the pit file that is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
I would try to follow the un-root section I know there is a lot of issue with the note 2 and updates or unrooting where it will not find the recovery because when you use Cause it moves the location of it. This might help. good luck.
I have my new battery. Just waiting on the cables

Sounds, Like a bad EMMC, If Your Phone doesn't get in to recovery and if it wont get recognized by Odin. Try updating the drivers, than Try Flashing back to the First firmware that came with the note II which is 4.1.1 So Try it, If it doesn't work like that, than it's indeed a bad EMMC on the board. Good luck my Friend!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm already on 4.1.1. I've never updated my note 2. I have updated drivers (although I can't find it in device manager but I've indeed downloaded it via my pc not via phone/ cable) I'm hoping its not a had EMMC because I don't know what that is but it sounds like that would make it a hardware issue correct? I'm hoping its just bad cables (I have old cables) and a bad battery (I still have the original battery on moderate to heavy usage) but recently became second device when I got note 3 (just in time lol)
Edit: is it still necessary to flash 4.1.1 if I'm already on it ? Thanks again!

Sadly I've tried different ports and 3 different computers with no luck. Idk if ADB would be any different if my computer can't see the connection with the phone. I'll just get another or get a different phone smh. Thanks for the help !

One last thing, did you make sure your USB debugging was checked?

USB debugging on my phone? If you mean that then my phone is dead so I can't check but it was prior to my phone dying on me.

I am unable to locate genuine resources on where to download ADB files and how to use it. Would you happen to know where I can find them ? Thanks !
