JB, Sense4 and 3D camera - HTC EVO 3D

Hi, I would like to ask, why is 3D camera problem at most JB and Sense 4 roms. Thanks for reply.:cyclops:

As far as I understand it, HTC never released source code for the camera drivers. Unless somebody writes one from scratch, there is nothing to port the drivers into AOSP or sense 4 ROMs. This doesn't mean it can't be done, just a lot more difficult.

But why cant you use drivers from ics, sorry for my stupidity but the base of drivers must be same as JB and Sense 4

Is because the drivers for the 3d camera are proprietary and HTC has not and probably never will release them to the public furthermore jelly bean s'pose have sense 4.1, at least on the official release

Sense apps depend on an underlying framework that doesn't exist in AOSP based ROM's and that changes from release to release even for Sense. Many AOSP apps, like the camera and gallery from 4.2, work on Sense ROM's because they still support the AOSP functions, but don't expect HTC apps and widgets to work on non-Sense ROM's because that framework is not there.

Some MIUI ROMs are ported onto a Sense base with Sense removed. Some are ported onto AOSP based ROMS. That is why some MIUI have Sense stuff.

Yes, and this is one. From the first line of the OP:
Hi all, this is my first Android ROM, it's based on MIUI v4, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and it uses also the Sense framework so both 3D and HTC apps are working.

I just recently flashed cm10 (chad's) and i have forgotten how much I dislike the Mail app versus the Sense 4.1 version... has anyone tried this one? -or do we know that it flat out will not work because of the missing framework?
appreciate your help on this,

I don't think the HTC mail app will work on non-Sense ROM's since it does require the framework, but there are some good mail apps based on the AOSP version such as K-9 Mail. The new Gmail app with pinch-to-zoom and message swiping is nice too if you are primarily a Gmail user.

Thanks for the response.... I use Gmail for my personal stuff and love it, but I use the regular mail app for work. unfortunately I handle hundreds of emails a day, and not being able to "select all" in AOSP makes managing those emails a nightmare. I will give K-9 another try, even though i wasn't impressed the first time i used it about a year ago. Thanks for the suggestions!

Maybe you could possibly extract the source code of the 3d camera so you don't have to start from scratch.

AOSP-like ROM with Sense camera?

I am probably about to upgrade to an Evo LTE.
I would like to know if there is a ROM that is as close as possible to AOSP (cm10 preferred) but which has the stock camera.
Is it possible to have a rom with minimal sense framework but which includes sense camera ?
Still torn between Evo and galaxy s3....
Thanks!

I have only every seen a handful of hybrid roms and they are difficult to maintain from my experience with them, the closest you will get is if someone can import the libs and somehow get it working that way but things like image sense are proprietary and it takes a lot of work to reverse stuff like that. Try one of the bloat removing scripts, I don't remember the name but one removes rosie and replaces it with a ics/jb based launcher so you aren't just running a launcher on top of rosie
If you install the new Viper 2.0 ROM you can choose to install it "Senseless" which gives largely the look of CM10, but you'll still have the Sense Camera

Good to know, I have yet to try viper. Seems just like that wipe script I saw a few months back. Aroma has a lot of customization built in.

RacerOfAll has a sick AOSP theme because he hates Sense but wants to keep using Sense features like the camera.
His Viper4G 1.0 theme is awesome, but now Viper is on 2.0 and the theme hasn't been updated, yet, so for the now I've manually pulled some of his apk's from the theme, manually replaced other apk's with AOSP versions and am using an HTC ICS skin and a 3rd party ICS launcher.
Basically, there's lots of stuff you can do to Sense ROMS to make them appear near-identical to AOSP while keeping Sense under the hood.

Awesome, man! You're gonna love it! I'm not going to release anything publicly, but once you're rooted let me know and I can send you the apks I use to make my phone look stock ICS.
I recommend Viper4G ROM from the Original Android Development forum. It comes with an awesome tweaks app that will let you customize the icons in your status bar to AOSP style. If you flash a different ROM I'll help you get it as AOSP as possible but you'd be on your own for the status bar
I might start a thread in the theming forum with screen shots of my setup and directions on how to emulate it now that I think about it. I'll be out of town Sunday so I'll check back here on Monday

Any AOSP roms going to have stock features?

I have come to really love my quickmemo feature and would hate to give it up, and would love to see the ability to use Qslide apps on say CM10.1.
I remember hearing at the least quickmemo would be usable on AOSP roms but, haven't seen any details on how to get it to the AOSP roms.
Nope.
AOSP is Plain Vanilla Android. Stuff like Quick Memo is added in by LG and is proprietary.

I get that AOSP is Vanilla android and Quick Memo is a closed source app.
That doesn't mean that the app itself isn't capable of running on AOSP. Perfect example would be the Beats Audio, A number of the Xperia Apps, and so on and so forth.
I should have propably phrased the question "Any Stock features going to be compatible with AOSP."

That would require some modifications to the systemui.apk I think. Same for QSlide. You'd need to modify the systemui.apk to work with the xxxxxxxxOverlay.apk (forgot what it was called exactly).

[Q] SENSE apps on senseless roms

Good day fellow people on XDA.
I was wondering for quite a bit, if it was possible to maybe add, for example, the htc camera .apk to, maybe, the miui jb rom or any other rom without sense.
Actually, the only reason I'm staying on sense based miui are the miui apps and the htc camera. I know it might need the sense framework but I'd really appreciate any answer..
tl;dr --> Can I use the htc camera app on a non sense rom. I don't even need 3d, as this isn't possible.
THANKS FOLKS

I didn't really get what you're trying to do but if you want to flash MIUI on your GSM phone, download either one of the official MIUI below;
ICS MIUI 4.0.3 this is the last ICS based MIUI where everything works including 3D. This is build 3.2.22
JB MIUI 4.1.2 this is the latest BETA which is version 5, almost all stuff works except camera/camcorder 3D and is the latest build which is 3.5.24. Be aware though that if you flash this one, it doesn't come with onscreen keyboard and you will have to find a keyboard you can flash at recovery or install ( as an .apk ) using file explorer when you boot up. Also you have to flash Google Apps AFTER rebooting your flashed rom or else the home button will not work. You can download Google Apps here.

I know tw is not as good as sense but if you see from a themers point of view then tw is better than sense. Why? Because the system apps are very simplified in their codes and you can edit them easily with understanding, it has no dependencies like HTC has. That's why there are so many mods for tw and very less for HTC phones.

[ROM] [4.4.2] [CDMA/GSM] HTC OpenSense 6 - Build 0.0.1 Alpha

HTC OpenSense 6
Based on OpenSense 6 API and HTC M8 firmware
WIP
Proof that we can have something spectacular come to the Droid Razr. I am really busy right now but I found time to push this out. I am taking open arms to any developers who would like to contribute to this project! I am now an HTC developer and have a good deal of experience with the OpenSense API and using that, I would like to get a Sense 6 port to our device!
As of right now, the base for this rom is PA beta3 which I would like to eventually change that but this will do for now.
Blinkfeed 2.0 @github https://github.com/rgocal/OpenSense_Blinkfeed2.git
**All original threads are in the readme as well some side information about the Blinkfeed 2 port. My goals are to get a working repository of Sense 6 port so a dev can simply add it to an AOSP manifest and compile on the spot**
More information as it becomes available "on a tight schedule today and in the progress of moving..."
Warning: This is an Alpha build and is not recommended as a Daily Driver but to act as a preview on a free rom slot thats collecting dust.

UMTS- http://d-h.st/snR
OpenSense Apps (CID, Not currently in rom)

OpenSense Dev- Tweaks, Settings, and info about rom
OpenSense Settings- Layered Android Settings with OpenSense 6 API"Like what I did with T-Settings in Bionx"
Notes: HTC Services and HTC Blinkfeed are updated by HTC in Sense 6 via the Google Playstore. Please do not leave ratings when updating or reviewing their software on this mod We dont want to confuse them... In the future build, I will be including the Google Play Store and Google Services to insure stability. I know there's a rule upon including Gapps in an Open Source rom but this is a different circumstance as its required for stability.
Support: Again, Open arms on this project as its something different and new for us. I see people already with the port but I want something official
Reserved for Screenshots
Current State: Alpha
reserved for changelog and support
Changes as of 04/26
Base of PA beta3
removed pa ota
removed launcher 3
Added HTC Sense Proprietary files
Added HTC Sense Blinkfeed 2.0
Support
After adding Gapps, upon an update on Google Play by HTC, if HTC Services or Blinkfeed stall on installing. Stop install and restart or reboot.
I put these together blindly as my Razr is acting up. I apologize on errors now.
Notes
As of now, No support for ART, which is what I perfer the rom to boot off of... The M8 supports ART So, I need to find what's going on to enable this.
OpenSense Apps will be Open Sourced for those who would like to contribute. More than likely, some will be put on the Playstore for easy updating unless another method is implemented like how HTC updated their apps in Sense 5. Some will be ad-driven. This is not to annoy you but to support the project.
Root isn't working properly. A custom root solution will be created for this rom. I will need to rebuild superuser based on Sense Framework to improve actions and permissions.
Next build may be more based off of a vanilla build of Android Kitkat .
HTC Flip for Blinkfeed
A new application I just built for the M7 and M8 but will work on this port (Allows users to combine launchers with Blinkfeed) . Supports my development and my android career. Feel free to rate on this app but mentioning your on the OpenSense rom =)

This is fantastic man. I was getting really bored with the RAZR. I mean the support by CM and all the other builds are great and all, but it started to lose originality. A great port just like this was a needed thing. I'm very happy you decided to build this project, and that HTC opened up their API's to allow it. The newest sense is a great looking UI.
