OG or S3 - AT&T LG Optimus G

I want to know how the OG compares to the Galaxy S3 in terms of hardware. Its a shame the OG is running ICS and because of that I will be unlocking the bootloader as soon as i get (seems thecubed is almost ready to release) and running an AOSP based ROM. So for me the deciding factors are really just the hardware and most importantly is the screen quality.
The other main reason i'm considering the OG is because its very similar to the N4 which will make development easier, I would have went with the N4 and never looked back but 16GB is just not enough for me.
So how would you compare this to the S3?

only phone that compares to LGOG is HTC DNA there is no other comparison... SG3 was last month's Adonis
got LGOG?

This phone is better than the s3 in every aspect, faster better screen way better colors and clarity. The camera it's a wash between the two but I'm used to HTC which had better cameras than either.

If you care about the screen quality, then there is no comparison. The OG's IPS display is waaaaay ahead of SAMOLED in every way but contrast. For clarity, color accuracy, color balance, and brightness the LGOG wins hands down.

Thanks for the input, what about build quality of the phone?
I think HTC has the best build quality of any manufacture, Samsung is okay just don't like the plastic feel and LG has had a bad rep.

Build Quality of the Optimus G is very solid. Glass front and I assume glass back also. One thing to consider about the AT&T variation is that their is a miniscule gap between the display and outer region of the phone where dust and particles get in (something that my Optimus G keeps collecting).

OG
Not even really a competition OG wins by a mile and a half in terms of spec. And from the looks of it we will be able to ROM our phone very soon so our development is not lacking either.

hmm I have no idea which of the 3 versions we get in Canada, I don't think its the AT&T version because we only have 32GB non expandable memory with 8MP camera so maybe its the international version?

Yours is a different animal, altogether. It's not the same as the international version, nor is it the same as the two U.S. versions.

Picked up my LGOG this morning. Had the opportunity to place the S3 side by side with the LGOG... the difference on the screen alone was day and night to me. I upgraded from the Atrix 4G.

been watching a few reviews and i notice in most of the videos the screen has a lot of glare, one of my main issues with the HTC Radiar was glare especially in direct sunlight. I find the AMOLED screen on the S3 is much better in sunlight, but wondering how the OG compares.

Well I am not sure about the GS3, but when I had my Epic 4G (normal super amoled) it was horrible in the sunlight. The OG fairs much better.

The OG screen is much brighter and has less reflectance than the S3, so it has better outdoor viewing.

If you are talking ATT especially the S3 is only dual core with adrena 225 gpu which is really weak compared to the LGOG

I hope you guys a re right with Project GeeFree this maybe my next phone, kinda considering the HTC One X+ as well but, in terms of next gen tech its the LGOG

I have a Galaxy Nexus, SGSiii and I just got the OG. I like the looks of the SGSiii better than the OG. The screen and audio and overall performance is great on the OG, but I say the same about the SGSiii. I love the Galaxy Nexus on 4.2 and I have loved the device since day one.
With all that said. I believe the OG on AOSP soon will be amazing. I do prefer the look and feel of the Nexus 4 over the OG side by side.

final decision..Sensation or GS2 ?? and why ??

hello
i will buy a new android phone and i don't now which phone i should buy it !
GS2
SAMOLED Plus have some bad colors ??
in the future GS2 will get htc Sense 3.0 rom ??
how much avilable of RAM in GS2 ?? i know GS2 have 1GB RAM but how much available for user after using phone like 10 hours ??
anything else ??
Stop filling up this forum with the same old boring question!
Your in a GS2 forum, of course people are gonna say gs2
Spec wise S2 is better, and general internet reviews suggest it's also the better phone, however there's enough opinions in this and the Sensation's forums to know the pros and cons of each to make up your mind.
i also put a topic on sensation forum
The sensation sucks in comparision,
16gb of space, and the sensation only has about 1gb.
Also, the GS2 screen is simply awesome in comparision to the higher resolution qhd screen. Whilst text will look a 'little bit crisper' - the colours are ****e, and the whole screen has a 'washed out' look.
GS2 has higher HSPDA speeds, has a media player that can actually skip through tracks and a larger battery too.
GS2 is very light and ultra thin, whereas the sensation is built with plastic AND metal - so is thicker and heavier (personal choice)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
After owning a htc hd2 and now the gs2 for w months i will say, the build quality of the gs2 is rubbish, gaps near the charging port lets dust in and speaker grill, also the phone for me is to light and tends to want to slip out when using it one handed. Also my device has the os battery bug for some time, it comes and goes randomly.
Sorry to be negative but its better to know the fauilts then to just hear this is the best phone and i love it.
So personaly id go for the sensation and wish i did. Just my opinion

I own both the Sensation and SGS2, and to put it bluntly, the Sensation is awful compared to the SGS2. I really tried to like the Sensation but it's just a poorly put together device. The Sensation does feel a bit more high quality but really what does that matter when the device your holding is a 2nd rate device. The SGS2 is not without it's flaws but at the moment, bar none, it's the best Android device on the market if not the best device period. You will not regret getting the SGS2 the same cannot be said of the Sensation
Ok. Both got 1,2Ghz Dual-core CPU.
Let's see...
Galaxy S 2 scored about 3500 in Quadrant. I know, it's not a big deal, but Sensation scores about 1200?
Well... the difference is.. 2300... That's a lot man.
Plus, the Galaxy S 2, has better CPU. AS for the GPU, I think the Sensation beats it(Adreno 220(Sensation) vs Mali400(S 2))
Ok, the sensation has a qHD resolution, but d'oh. You prefer the qHD res over the super duper amazing extra dynamic colors of the Super Amoled Plus?
I was between those two. Oh, and the S 2 has 250+ more RAM.
And I chose the Galaxy S 2. It's perfect, slim, awesome. ~~

The SAMOLED plus is fantastic IMO, I prefer it over the Sensation screen.
Developers are working on Sense 3.0 port for SGS2
Current RAM on my SGS2 = 545MB
Current RAM on my Sensation = 252MB

And lets not forget the Sensation lags like crazy. My Nexus S was faster than the Sensation
Galaxy S2 wins on:
Screen Quality (SA+ makes the higher resolution QHD screen look washed out)
Ram: 1GB vs 768mb
Storage: 16gb vs 1gb
Battery: 1650 vs 1540 - Not only does the GS2 include a larger battery, but the super amoled+ screen uses less power than the QHD screen.
HSPDA Speeds: 20.1mbps vs 14.4mbps ( i think )
GS2 wins on Video formats too, the inclusion of divx playback is fantastic.
Front facing camera on the GS2 is better.
Less lag: the sensation just does not operate as fast as the GS2, for what reason - i just dont know.
Quadrant: 3600 vs 1300 (big difference)
Camera: both phones offer 8mp, however the GS2 has a faster shutter speed, smoother action and more camera features. (both offer 1080p recording)
Call quality: both have dual microphones, but the sensation has extremely poor noise cancellation - hence the GS2 win.
Thiness/weight: GS2 is super thin and super light - no contest.
-----
Sensation wins on:
Build quality: plastic and metal is obviously a higher build quality than plastic.
..... Thats it.
Some ppl prefer HTC sense, but since using TW4 - it runs flawlessly for me (unlike TW3) - user preferance.
Not sure if ive missed anything, but sure others will chip in too
(it would be better to compare the sensation to the galaxy+ rather than GS2 - yet i feel, the sensation would still lose on many points from above)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The Sensation's time has come and gone. The Ruby and Holiday already far exceed its specs. Hell, even the E3D has more RAM. The Sensation was evolutionary for HTC while the SGS2 was revolutionary for Samsung. Not that the SGS2 isn't going to be superseded too, but not as dramatically and not as quickly.
HTC is very known for poor audio. Sensation has a very tiny sounding speaker just like the rest of them.
I hate when people are negative about sgs2 build quality. Ive had mine since launch and dropped it over 20 times now and besides a scuff on the bezel the rest of the phone is in great/perfect shape. I will never understand that people complain aobut how light it is when Samsung intended to make it as thin as possible. Any case fixes that issue also.
The Sensation gets dust under screen within a few days. Has the death grip(I think all phones have this) and have touch screen issues and horrible in direct sunlight.
If your getting the unlocked international sgs2, youll know that Samsung is updating the device like crazy. CM7 crew is supporting the device also.
If you happen to not like the sgs2 for any reason, and would rather go for a HTC device. I would advise you to wait until there next big device comes.
Well I had Galaxy S2 and at the moment have a sensation. While I had s2 I had 2 issues. Yellowish left side screen only noticeable até gray background and pink spot on photos and i replaced the unit, got rid of yellowish and almost gone pink spot but then had hd video recording frame rate drop at low light conditions... Well i thought, I payed 500 euro for this? So traded with sensation and this is the real thing that happened, even with the new 2.3.4 super fast ROM it doesn't compare with the speed of s2 but ok, is fast enough... Had touch screen issues already not responding to my command and having force closes with everyday apps and even now phone reboots itself when trying to play a game... Also phone calls sound thin and low volume, having a little distortion, audio recording also too thin. Already asked for a replace going back to S2 and pink spot and video problems since the rest just feels quick and perfect...
BUT I love sense, if anyone depends on it, don't go wrong, sensation and sense 3.0 is just so easy and complete, beautiful and with new update 2.3.4 no lag at all! I hope I had HTC build, responsiveness and speed of Samsung and sense... About the screen at the beginning I thought samoled+ was way better but now I think is a matter of taste and what we get used to...
Hope it helps

The only thing I noticed that grabbed my attention when testing out the sgs2 and sensation was it's weather animations and nice funky if a little busy lockscreen, other than that the sgs2 screen simply blows the slightly unnoticeable higher res screen that is ever so washed out, the sgs2 is noticeably faster to use, not entirely convinced by all the sense clutter myself but that's a personal opinion, the physical weight of the sgs2 is so much lighter in the hand pure bliss to hold up and read books while lying in bed arms never get tired, playing dungeon hunter 2 on the sgs2 is eyepopping joy compared to the drab looking dungeon world on the sensation, build quality of the sgs2 is always knocked, in my opinion how they plastic engineered so much ram, memory and CPU with such a large battery and screen into such a light package is astounding, being an ex plastic design engineer I guess I get excited about such twaddle, there you go my real world non spec view on the situation, just buy the sgs2

It's true, no one does Weather better than HTC. As a matter of fact, no one comes close. If HTC sold their weather app on the market Beautiful Widgets would have to file for bankruptcy. The other area HTC does a good job on is their keyboard. The HTC IME is fantastic and their auto-correct function is as good if not better than the iPoo

SLCD 2 better than Super AMOLED HD?

Hey Guys,
I just recently sold my Evo 3D and upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint - very happy. I have noticed A LOT of raving reviews about the SLCD 2 screen and that it makes the AMOLED look washed out etc...
What are you initial reactions to the screen, brightness, clarity, viewing angles etc? Does it really beat out the Super AMOLED HD?
Thanks.

I have to say this screen is Ahhhhhhhhhh-mazing. I have a family member that has a iPhone 4s and my LTEvo screen uses the apples retina display to wipe it's @$$
I agree as well, the screen is truly amazing! Like seriously...when you look at it for the first time, it blows everything away.
When I saw press photos showing the EVO's screen, the skeptical side of me assumed they were photoshopped because the screen looked great, uniformly bright, and crisp at just about any angle. Now that I've seen it in person, it is seriously ridiculously awesome. When looking at it at an angle it doesn't even LOOK like an LCD screen; it looks like a screenshot of my phone pasted on top of the screen, kinda like those non-functional demo units you see in stores. It's just silly.
Another notch in the SLCD2's favor is that it won't have any burn-in. I think I read somewhere that AMOLED screens are vulnerable to burn-in?
I think my One X display is better than my Note/Nexus display, and better than the S3 display (I had a couple of hours hands-on with the S3 last weekend). The S3 display is also awesome, but overall SLCD-2 still has it for me (and I'm a self-confessed AMOLED fan).

I upgraded from a Nexus S to a Galaxy Nexus. I wasn't disappointed with the display but I don't remember being amazed by it either. I returned the GNEX within my 14 day window when i heard of the discounts for preordering the LTEvo at BB and trading in an og Evo.
Just completely blown away by the LTEvo display right out of the box...
SLCD2 ~ Samoled+ >> Samoled HD.
SLCD2 = amazing pixel density, high resolution - immediately noticeable if you play a lot of youtube videos. Good brightness. Requires high brightness for good contrast ratio.
Samoled+ = amazing contrast ratio. Not pixelated. Good brightness. Somewhat low resolution, only noticeable in videos.
Samoled HD = a step down from samoled+ in all almost all parameters. Still amazing contrast ratio. But very pixelated. Decent brightness.
Phones I've used - Evo LTE, Epic Touch, Galaxy Nexus.
I'd say I equally enjoy both SLCD2 and Samoled+. Samoled HD is just too grainy and dim.

GS3 screen same as Galaxy Nexus?

Went to the mall today and stopped in the Verizon/Sprint and AT&T stores...and Best Buy Mobile too, looking for the GS3 demo of course. No luck. But I did play with the Galaxy Nexus and if the screen on it is what I can expect on the GS3 I think i'm gonna be a happy camper cause it looked lovely. Anybody know if they are the same?

I don't have a GS3 (yet), and I've heard the screen is nicer. But it actually has a larger screen (not the same size as noted above). I believe Nexus is 4.65" vs. 4.8" of the GS3.

The reviews say it is better despite the lower pixel density. I wouldn't put too much stock on it though. The one on my friends GS3 looked great but some videos had some pretty pink tinted ones that didn't look too hot.
We will see. Cross our fingers.
I compared my SGS3 screen with my friends Galaxy Nexus. SGS3 is much brighter and whiter.
It's the same display, a bit different tweaks.
SGS3 display is definitely brighter than the GN, but the Galaxy Note screen is the absolute brightest of them all by a good/large margin.
SGS3 has tweaked color profile to offer more natural colors instead of being over saturated and blueish tint. Whites are definitely whiter now without the blue-ish tint. Still not as white as an IPS LCD though.

Wow...I was blown away with how nice the display was on the GNex, if the GS3 is better than that
i have both and, over-sharpening tweaks aside, the SGS3 screen is noticeably better. the Gnex has a real problem with gray's, which is quite a bit better on the SGS3 - probably because the brightness is better on every level. It's also the least pentile-looking AMOLED screen i've ever seen.
The note's display is still the best though. It's brightness, color balance and clarity are on another level.

[Q] ¿should I exchange my Xperia S with a Galaxy Nexus?

Hi, first of all I've to say sorry because my English is very poor
Since april I've had a simfree Xperia S, with bootloader unlock allowed (I haven't done it yet, including root or any mod)
There are two things that I don't like from the XPS:
-ICS is very laggy
-The battery isn't removable.
I usually stay away from my house the entire day, and I like watching films or series in the phone, so by the end of the day I always run out of battery and I need to carry with a USB portable battery and keep it connected for hours to recharge the phone.
With the galaxy nexus, I can buy the extended battery and carry with the stock one so when the extended is empty I can swap the batteries and begin at 100% again
The other thing I like from the Galaxy Nexus is the amoled screen, because of the better viewing angles than XPS and the bigger size when playing video
The two things I don't like from the Galaxy are the too low 16gb of storage and the GPS (I don't know if it is bad, but sure it isn't as good as the XPS)
And at the other hand, Nexus will be always up to dated with android version, and we don't know if XPS will be updated to 4.1
If you want a Nexus, wait for the new one(s) released this fall.

But not for regular use as anthon needs !

There is likely to be a series of Nexii, so you should be able to find something that suits you.
Please take note that galaxy nexus has on screen time of about 3hour plus only, while Xperia has higher on screen time.
Charging portable battery is easier than charging additional battery?
Xperia has a better rear camera while nexus has better front camera. Lol
Both phone are using outdated hardware, does it even matters?
At least in my country, Singapore, xperia s is certified for nfc payment while nexus isn't. (only xperia s, p, s3 and Samsung advance plus)

And at the other hand, Nexus will be always up to dated with android version, and we don't know if XPS will be updated to 4.1

The screen on the Galaxy Nexus is not that great. Sure you get better viewing angles but lower ppi, crappy whites, pentile, and image ghosting. I bought both phones and ended up sending the Nexus back. I just can't stand Samsung.

Pentile sucks man, I am sorry. My buddy has a Nexus and compared to my Xperia S the screen is not nearly as clear. Viewing the web on the Nexus is not very good as text isn't crisp unless zoomed in.
Also battery isn't that great on the Nexus either, if you view alot of internet it will drain much faster than the Xperia S.
I thought the same thing when coming from a galaxy nexus. Now that I'm running CM9 FXP132 I live this phone! Performance is incredible and my battery life doubled!

Keep the Xperia S
First of all....the XS display is absolutely brilliant...even better than S3 display.Look at the 2 screens in the same time and you will notice the difference.Xperia S display colors are more real and the black is really really black. And is also the ppi intensity. Is better on Xperia S!The CPU on Nexus is significantly poorly than Xperia`s S!Even overclocked the score at megaflops doesn`t equal the score obtained by Xperia S CPU.And we have for the Xperia S a kernel oc-ed to 1,9Mhz!The camera on Xperia S makes perfect pictures!12 mpx > 5 mpx on Nexus.I don`t know about the GPU`s on both of the devices but the games on xperia s runs very well. The only advantage on Nexus is the removable battery and better technical support!overall except the lack of technical support the Xperia S is a better(technical and look)phone!
You're asking this in an Xperia forum lol bias is everywhere. Each device has its pros and cons. Personally if I had the option, I'd go for the Nexus, but if you can hold off until later this year as K900 said, you'll be in for a big improvement.
GN vs XS on xperia forum doesn't mean bias, if you got no comparison, GN is brilliant, i came from GN (now my GF is using it), switched to XS.
i had no complaint about GN before switch, i got lots of complaint after making the switch for both.
XS = laggy UI, laggy UI and laggy UI, man the spec is better but why laggy?
GN = wow the screen sucks big time, colour, sharpness (not due to ppi but pentile) and burning (ghost and shadow and stupid burn and much more)
if you use it everyday, the screen is where you are looking at everyday when using the phone. although XS LCD is a tad old fashion (why not IPS like iphone), switch from XS to GN will be your biggest mistake. if you are coming to a decision which phone you should buy then it depends
(smoothness and update = GN , design, camera and screen = XS)

Yeah I agree completely, my buddy who love is Galaxy Nexus has been complaining about the screen ghosting lately. Also the Xperia S is not laggy if you install a custom rom for it. Mine does good work.
YES you should.
If you're not satisfied with the phone you have now, then let it go. Questioning whether to replace it or not will just make u see more and more bad things about it. So why keeping it? And chances are, you will not be satisfied with Nexus either. You see people here are the kind to get any phone they want, stick to it and make the most of it.
You must remember, Reality Display color is more natural than Super Amoled (overcolour)
if you are to replace your sxs, do it with a newer gen s4 processor. otherwise, you wouldn't feel much difference.

Just got the Galaxy S4 - I prefer the LGOG

Just received the new Galaxy S4 yesterday. After playing around with it for a day, I must say that I'm quite indifferent about it. I don't consider it a huge upgrade from the LGOG at all... Here's some initial thoughts:
Display - I kept reading all the hype about the 1080p Super AMOLED display on the S4 and had very high expectations. It's OK at best. A pentile-matrix display is still no match for full RGB LCD pixels like on the OG, even at 720p. The S4's autobrightness is also set much too dim, and I find myself having to manually slide the brightness level up and down to fit the surrounding lighting.
Build Quality/Appearance - The LGOG definitely feels like a higher quality handset than the S4 when you compare the two. The button layout and location of the ports are pretty much identical (which are some of the things that kept me from getting the HTC One instead). However, the glass back and diamond pattern of the LG just looks better, plain and simple.
OS Skin - I find that LG's Android skin is much more customizable than Samsung's Touchwiz. Using the LGOG stock out of the box feels like you're using a custom ROM from the XDA forums, there are so many customization options.
Performance - This is where the LGOG really shines. I have yet to find anything that makes the LGOG lag. Every animation and action done on the phone looks like it's running at 60fps. Switching between apps is instantaneous and the user experience is a pleasure. With all the beefed up internals of the S4 (higher processor and GPU clock speeds), I still saw some lagginess when performing certain actions. This was something I was not expecting on the S4, but I am pretty sure it has to do with all the new bells and whistles Samsung tried to cram into the phone (Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Stay, Smart Scroll, etc). Bottom line, the S4 benchmarks might be higher, but in daily use the LGOG is a smoother user experience.
Battery Life - This is the only thing that is still up in the air, as I have only had the S4 for one day. I expect the S4 to be better in this category though since it has a higher capacity battery, and judging from existing reviews.
Hope this post helps anyone that is on the fence between these 2 phones! I'd be happy to answer questions.
It would be awesome if you can do some sort of video comparison. (Don’t have to be really professional one… Just a simple video) If you have some time to kill.
I don't expect the S4 to last longer. Why? There's too much extra crap in there and a bigger screen, hence the bigger battery. Its probably going to be the same, if not worse.
I thought about getting that phone, but after previewing it and the HTC one, I had to stay with my LGOG and my Nexus 4.
I hate my S3 now since I got the Nexus and then LG.

I used to have a Nexus 4 also, and like the OG much better (capacitive buttons, LTE, SD card slot). Especially now that the OG has fully functioning AOSP roms. The only thing I don't like is how HOT the phone gets during heavy use or internet browsing using mobile network data. I'm sure the high temps negatively affect battery life.
It still stands that I am largely unimpressed by the Galaxy S4 when compared to the OG. Even their cameras are comparable in normal outdoor daylight. I have not tested low light yet, but pretty much all phone cameras suck in low light except for a few (Nokia 808, HTC One, Lumia 920).
I got my S4 last weekend and have to say I agree with OP, after couple days of using the S4 couldn't wait to get back to my LGOG with CM10.1. The S4 display was disappointing to me and it was extremely laggy, much more then my S3.
A guy at my local best buy just got one and it just doesn't seem up to par with my LGOG like I thought it would and my display looks better too

You guys are comparing the s4 with the LGOG!! This phone has been out for a long time now. And not that many roms.. I understand it took awhile to unlock the bootloader. And its crappy LG.. Bad support. I was just gifted this phone but i guess i just have to sale it or convert it into a N4
Are you talking about Quad or Eight Core SIV? I have the Quad one and I still prefer the DNA or the LGOG. Yes it is an LG so rarely gets updates but aside from that LGOG is much better.
Sell the SIV and use your LGOG

Lol misinformed. There are tons of roms and not to mention the option to convert is just plain awesome to have.

My neighbor just got the s4 and I couldn't help my self. I had to play with it. I think the lgog is the better device IMHO.
Now I just need to play with the HTC one. So far I'm happy with purchasing the lgog n not waiting for the s4

IPS displays offer awesome viewing angles, colors, saturation, more light viewing, and battery life. That Super AMOLED is an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) that gives you truer blacks than any LCD technology could hope to (even plasma isn't up to par). It offers great colors, viewing angles, brightness, saturation, etc and better battery life in a screen tech vs screen tech heads up. LG is great with their phones and has really stepped up since my last ATT Phone, the Shine (man I loved that phone). Their support is there and have stepped it up with updates for all their products across the board. Kind of hard to compare technology of a phone seven to nine months old to a newer phone. I actually lag my LGOG using LG's own keyboard on games like RoB, MWOH, and FFAB. Of course many SGS2 would freeze before I even rooted and ROM'd, my LGOG isn't freezing though it can lag and stutter (not rooted on my new one or anything yet).
LG doesn't give us a removable battery here but that's not a killer to me. The screen also is too easy to break (mine, on a brand new one only two weeks old that was rooyed and freegee'd actually had a crack go across the bottom of my screen and it was never dropped or anything.) My SGS2 was dropped and barely had a chip in it and that was on the side.
The SGS4 is thin and plasticky to me. I don't mind thinness (the LGOG is about the same as my SGS2) but it's about as slippery as my LGOG and costs way more.
The screen on the SGS4 uses a diamond tile matrix overlay on top of the OLED (AMOLED) LED backing. It's not terrible and is actually better than the SGS3 version. However the ppi is greatly enhanced but Samsung really doesn't need that type of overlay.
In all the LGOG feels better and responds better than the SGS4 in my opinion. To me it seems LG did better at optimizing their software for the LGOG than Samsung did with their phone, hence the lag.
