[ROM/WIP] Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread (AOSP) for Ace 2 - Galaxy Ace II Android Development

While we're working on Android 4.1, I thought it would be cool to have a clean AOSP ROM for daily use.
Stay tuned, should have great deal of info by Wednesday.
This is a part of Sakura AOSP Project.

While Android is opensource, not everything needs to be opensource. If a company doesn't want to publisch the board-support-package, they don't have to. At that point, you have to write this bsp yourself.... Which can only be done by reseverse engineering. A company like ST Ericsson develops a chipset. A team of more then 10 people is then involved to port Android to this chipset. They look for clients and to every client they dedicate a special team that helps the client (Samsung in this case, but also Sony) to adopt this port to their needs and their platform. The client then ports their layer (Touchwiz for Samsung) to the new platfrom. So you're looking at maybee 30 people involved to get Android up, running and bug-free on a one specific phone..... People who get payed to do this at work. People who will get paid extra time if needed. People who do this as a day job.
Now, let's get back to XDA. We're looking here at one to two active developers who do the porting in their spare time. They are not getting paid for it. They just do it for the trill, so let's stop asking them for timelines or updates. Let's keep it a fun thing for them to do. If not.... Wel... if it's not fun anymore for them to share their work.... they will simple stop sharing and they have all the rights in the world to stop sharing!
bangz0r, keep up the good work

I am greatful for people to make things better.

Just a note, both projects have been delayed.
I have a huge overhaul at work. Shouldn't be more than until Friday,

@up
so why don't you create a thread AFTER having a ROM?
With all the respect to the devs and your previous achievements, I think that all that "coming soon" threads should be deleted.
what we got here? A thread with no ROM (actually 3 of them, including sacura project and jb) and dozens of "yeahs, wows and can't waits" posts. and "delay" of project...
Do you need all that "likes" and "encourage" trash? so why don't you release ROM first?
And no, I'm not a dev and I will not release my own ROM (I suppose somebody use such argument soon), but for God's sake- this is development, not chitchat section.
there are forums with separate development and ROM discussion sections, which helps to keep development thread clean. but we have all in one... Do we needs hundreds of pages of garbage? you have like/thanks button, so why do you post all that thanks anyway?
sorry if somebody felt insulted or sth...

I'm sorry I did not read the entire post, but with all due respect - this is not a "coming soon" thread.
You are obviously new to XDA.
EDIT:
Release, lol. You would get killed if you'd have actually worked as a developer at sane company calling up on releases without in-depth testing first. Do you know the purpose of creating such thread? It's for contributing.

1. but you aren't developer at any company, at least xda is not such a company. you need to make a thread to test the ROM ALONE??
you are experienced dev, so what kind of contribution do you need at this point? to hold your hand?
2. I think contribution starts with first release...
people find bugs, help to solve it...
what kind of contribution did you get from all that previous posts?
I don't want to argue, maybe you used to to trash in threads/topics, but how many of previous posts (and in our threads general) are actually valuable and helpful?
wouldnot be nicer and better without all that junk? EoT.

[ADVICE] DEV-section

We all know that it has been a mess here since a while.
I thought to post this, so MAYBE some people do listen to CYANOGEN himself instead of the DEVs around here.
Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298

I really dislike the "chef" moniker when it comes to Android, since we are more of an open-source community. I think it implies a "file pusher" mentality. But then again, I am biased against proprietary versions of Android like Sense, so feel free to disregard all of this.
Here's my advice for those looking to make their own Android ROMs.. Stop. Write an app or two first, learn how the system works from a developer standpoint. Learn some Java. Read the developer documentation. Learn how to use Git. Then learn how to build AOSP from source. Read the porting guides, and learn how the build system works (the links below have almost everything you could possibly want to know). Now try to put your new found skills to work on enhancing the platform by writing code or making theme overlays. And share! And put that **** on your resume. There is a *ton* of information out there but any kind of "step-by-step rom cooking guide" is going to be a complete fail- it's too broad of a subject.
Android Developer Guides: http://d.android.com
Working with AOSP source: http://source.android.com
Platform Developer Guide: http://pdk.android.com
Android Gitweb: http://android.git.kernel.org
Git Ready (Git tips and tricks): http://www.gitready.com/
Building CyanogenMod: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Building_from_source
How Dexopt works and what are those odex files: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...bcd225e47b2cc7abb2a366112d3aeb45936;hb=master
The PDK site is absolutely vital if you are going to work on custom ROMs. Read every single page. Twice. Some of the info isn't up to date, but you'll get a really good idea about what goes into actually configuring Android to work on a real device.

I totally agree with this. O1 P500 Community could use a little cleaning up.
By the way, I have been wanting to learn actually developing Android but just can't find the resource to hook me up. Those links are just what I needed.
My opinion is that we can ask a kid politely till we die of old age,
and i'm not far by comparing what is happening here whit kids behavior.
Long story short moderators must do something, us users can relay do nothing,
if a user is like that, our posts will defensively not impress him and in most cases he will never read them..

Good for you that you find it now, if you tried searching the same earlier you would have learn how to develop in Android coz that link is almost 2 years old. Basically you wasted 2 years waiting for such links to come.
This thread is of no purpose, the theme roms and other roms will go in this section ONLY as its right now. No need to create threads like this one, to avoid warning.
Thread closed!

What is wrong with all of you?

Yes I know I'm not the appropriate person to start the thread, but I really feel that something must be done to prevent this forum from going from bad to worse.
First things first, Dev section:
- Why do I see people flaming there? Especially the OT people?
- Despite many attempts to ask you guys to stop the spam in the CM9 thread, everyone just ignores and keeps going. Seriously, guys, shut up!
- *** Edit: ANDROIDCUSTOMISe has apologized on behalf of TA***
Secondly, General section:
- OT thread. I know whose post count relies heavily on that thread, but the thread is mine. Me and the mods make the rules in those threads. I wanted to help noobs, but the thread just degraded itself......maybe I should rename the thread to "The ONE AND ONLY thread for degeneration"?
- Search. No one ever searches. Why is that so? Procrastination. That's right. Those idiots at Chum Bucket are lazy to search for whatever in the hell they want, because it's much easier to ask at the Q&A section. [Q] this, [Q] that. It NEVER ends.......I can just get angry thinking about it.
Thirdly, to all you wannabe developers:
- Derivative ROMs DO NOT count as true development, because you did not create your own base from source, but from someone else instead. I actually hesitated to post this point, because most people in many teams do that, including TeamCooper themselves.
- That includes many themed ROMs in the already saturated Samsung Galaxy Ace ROM market.
- Never call yourself a dev until you can actually compile something from sources that you created by yourself, or compiling GB/CM7/ICS/CM9 by yourself. I've been holding this inside myself for a long time.
Fourthly, Maclaw and his team (Maclaw, if you read this, no offence):
- Why in the world would they wanna waste so much $$ making a server so that they can host a few files? I mean, there's file sharing sites for everything, even MegaUpload is coming back, sheesh.
- Again, a personal server just for a blog?!! What?!! You have Blogger and Tumblr, yet you chose not to use them. Great work, Maclaw. Great work.
Fifthly, Team Adreno:
- Rushabh, I've sincerely had enough with you and jinavs. I know that WP7 was originally tj_droid's idea and you never knew how to use dsixda's Android Kitchen until he taught you. In the end, BAM! Stolen ROM.
- AOKP. Hah, you guys knew it was a port yet you guys hate that word. Well, maybe grow some guts and actually compile something next time? Also, if you guys have a hectic schedule, don't release a ROM which promises frequent updates. It'll harm the hearts of many of your fans.
- You guys are lucky aNDROIDCUSTOMISe joined TA despite the objections, don't lose him again like how you lost tj.
- Also, it's not that I'm trying to insult or anything. Look at the first points, Prawesome said I was licking your asses.
Sorry if anything was wrong, I am posting this in frustration.

Assuming the brand new Rom posting structure is fully implemented on our sga section of the forum this will resolve the development v theming/porting arguement. All that would then be required is that all members (whatever their status) treat others with respect. Please sirs if you think others are doing wrong don't flame - report. Leave moderation to the Moderators, they haven't been shy of stepping in and advising. Maybe all we need now is a few demonstrations of Tomek's Iron Fist to stop people thinking they can get away with anything. Best wishes to ALL Dev Teams and individuals.

I have been a regular user for a long time here and I don't like what I see and read here the last weeks.

Completely aggree.
The main problem (just my point of view) is that those "noobs" ignore any compents (if I think on hephappy's thread) and think they know everything.
And because they don't work on there own project, they don't know how much work (all in the free time of the devs) has to be done.
Don't worry
Don't worry!
My roms are available via Rom Manager.
Rom manager -> Download rom -> hephappy -> Select rom
No more xda = no more noobs...
Rom manager note:
ROM hosting is free. ROMs hosted via ROM Manager Developer Portal will be listed
in the free section 5 days of the week. The other 2 days of the week, it will be
listed in the premium section. The days may vary from developer to developer
so not all developers are in the premium section at the same time.

I kinda agree here, developers get all the respect, praise and following but they get bossy and abusive at times. Evrerybody likes to have good ROMs but not at the price of self respect I guess.
Everybody has a noob stage in life or maybe someone who you call noob at XDA might be a scholar in his field so XDA is not the end of the world. The best way to treat somebody who you dont like is to 'ignore'.
If a dev has 500 fans and 50 of them are ignorant noobs, even then its not a bad deal.
MORAL: Everybody start giving respect, dont be short tempered, value devs work and try to ignore if thats the only option.
Cheers!

Everybody is a "noob" at one time.Lot of people think they are the boss and call others noobs, but that pretty much wont last long.I ain't a developer but love all the developing works in here. Its really obvious from the thank meters of great devs, how much respected they are in this community.
Not anybody is born really intelligent and talented.
Everybody learn something from others and improve it.That is how the system works.
Everybody has their own field which they are perfect at.In that field, the "bosses" in here could be noobs.

100% Noob for Reason and Courtesy
I have been a professional developer but for internals and ROMs, I am 100% "Noob." Most of what I see on this little thread is much less than helpful. Enough already.
Anyone who read my posts would see that my tone does not fit the stereotype be harangued here. I do not use the F word, the S word, make ridiculous claims and demands of more experienced (fantastic!) "Devs." Any suggestions I make are with respect and humility. Maybe the ideas will pan out, maybe not.
If I do not have CM10 on this old phone, I am delighted with ICS. (Indeed, Google Now will soon enough work here without JB, a matter of time and ingenuity.) I do hope JB (or as I have termed in more realistically "Jelly-Sandwich") will work on the phone, but there are other things in life. I did not enter XDA for all the negativity and tension. Friendship and respect are more important the ROMs and tweaks.
I dont read p500 so munch like old time, im have buy new device and i busy with that, but this problem has rolling day by day, even before arjen and adam start developing here, it has make alot of casualties like andy, doctornotor, etc..
What you expect from from developer?
Their ideas, their works, their time, so i think they must have bigger egos than me, im just a Leacher... Just download and give feedbacks if you like their works, or leave it like that if you hate he/his works. No need flaming, another person have their glasses and viewpoint.
Xda is made for us. we here for our needs, even every devices will death development, we just try make as long as we can, and flaming is not the way to make our beloved p500 ageless like htc hero...
Thx for all developers That i known for 1.5years till now day in this section... GBU.

You believe that a kernel dev recieved PMs regarding how to flash kernels. Lol

Arjen, can I request you to close this thread? I could understand your good intentions behind starting this thread but this is going totally in a different direction. I hope all of you agree with me that tit for tat attitude is not good for anybody. Its high time that we stop all this and come to normal mode, cooperate and make this community a great place to do better things.

Why are devs leaving?

Firstly, this isn't a complain, just a way to try to understand what's happening.
I noticed some devs (from the few we already have) are leaving.
What is the problem? Personal? Phone power? It was only a temporary phone? Users aren't being polite or thankful? Xperia S seems that won't have much developers, this was a fact since the beginning.
Since the beginning, FXP and Xperia AOKP team are here, but a few other devs doesn't hurt. Doing mods, other ROMS (I confess I'm jealous of the number of roms and mods on the Arc forum. Heck, I want that Pureness Rom so bad).
Again, only trying to understand, I AM NOT COMPLAINING.
"I got my values. So you can keep yours, OK?"
A Serious Issue!
Maybe because some users are complaining too much for the hard work they get for free. I think that we should praise our devs more and also that we should donate more. Development of a rom takes days/weeks. Not everybody can afford to do that totally for free. Maybe xda could offer a humble-bundle-like buisiness model for professional devs. (pay what you want). With that we could attract skilled and motivated people. And paying at least 1$ for a rom wouldn't hurt anybody but reward the developers.
Please don't attack me for that. It's just a suggestion. I know how hard development is. At the moment I also have maybe a 100 interesting projects, but I can't afford to realize them cause I don't get paid for that. And everybody needs to live from something.
people here doing those for free, and of course they have life too.. it's sad to see some few people just rant about their mistakes...if there's bug in the kernel/rom..report it, instead of ranting or venting anger :/
hope to see more development for our devices..
MAyB the user complain more & 4get to give credit to the DEV's who have put in hard effort to make it & sacrificed their useful time.
Maybe because they have gotten better phones than the Sony ones... But it is sad yes.. I would love a smooth and fast rom... But hope more devs will come... I have tried a little for my own and will maybe continue xsx kernel but I can't promise anything as I don't have much time because of my final masters degree assignment..
But we must hope for better days ..

Which, somehow, it's strange. Xperia X10 Mini/Pro, X8 are low end 2010 devices. They still have some active devs there.
"I got my values. So you can keep yours, OK?"
Look at x8! They even have miniCM9 n 10! Haha! And many Roms and juice to taste! What I can say is that let's became dev to serve our community! It's about time to do it ourselves!

Who's leaving? I'm not leaving, I'm temporarily studying
I think the MooDeD (what's the right capitalization in that) dev left, but I don't think we've lost much here. Doom is having a lot of problems IRL, and so do I for now. Jerpelea and Kali- are working on 8960 devices, me, Nick and Keiran on U8500 and AOKP for everyone, krabappel and others work on modded stock ROMs and stuff. What else do we really need? I mean, it would be great to see more skilled people here, but we're getting by as we are right now. Give Sony a month or two, and we'll get stable JB with all the stuff working*
* - likely except HDMI, Sony uses a custom protocol that's a PITA to reverse engineer, so it's not a priority.
P.S. Also, Xperia Nexus. If it's real and not Exynos (which I doubt), I'm totally getting it.

Eracher and mericon just left.
I know. I really wish I had knowledge to at least a Sony based ROM (from Arc to XS). But I really don't know where to start. No dev knowledge.

I can confirm that we don't always get credit for our work. It's really annoying when users post 10 times the same bug with every release, or keep spamming my inbox with the same request over and over again...
Anyway I won't leave soon, I just have a lot of work to do for school, but I'll maintain my Xperia S stuff
As soon as I have some more time I'll also go to making rom from sources maybe

I can only say that I also find it embarrassing so see the hard work you guys put into what we (should) enjoy. I for one am extremely happy with your work and wouldn't think of "this button's too dark" or "your rom isn't sexy enough" or whatever.
I'm sure many users also appreciate your work, but only the spammers and naggers seems to get the attention.
Whatever, thanks again for the hard work that makes our toys so much better - for free!

Why continue the XSX kernel? I'll post some more info on aKernel later, it's going to be... interesting

[discussion] why developers don't continue their projects

well we all know that XDA forums is a way to communicate with people all around the world and share opinions and problems.
few days ago, this question cross my mind, so i decide to disuss this question with you my friends.
first, thanks for the developers of our ACE for making plenty of amazing roms.
and with all the respect to them, i'd like to ask them(not all of them) ,that why dont you continue your roms to reach the stable level, and make new another rom instead, so roms become uncompleted, and the Forum become overflow.
so please give me your answers , to know your point of view

السلام عليكم يا اخي
i will tell you why developers quit their Rom
because when it is on v1 two or three guys walk in and start bad comments and screwing it up for everyone and that kills the development inside the dev just because it was a Rom with a few bugs and not too much features they don't even let the developer make some updates first before judging

That's just half true. These days were over when the thread for ace of spades ROM was closed. But didn't Trent Turvey return with geared android ? The truth is, some people sold their ace, some became busy with life & some discontinue their project because a new ROM with better stability & performance arrived ( For eg., Jellaxy team got off when Wayland_ace brought up cm10.1 ). In any case, some people leave & some new people come. We can just bid them farewell & hope that they return someday. Welcome to the ace forums !

yes but on early builds usually the noobs are more than those good people
beside another reason is galaxy S4
even in the galaxy S3 thread we lost a lot of developers to the S4 devs want better hardware to work with it seems
most also tAke time between updates
like few nonths
so they hav extra time to create some new stuff
and also most cant test new updates or the roms are already pretty stable/ nothing can be improved

Everything has its peak and from there it's a downward slope... Ace is an old device, it launched 2.5yrs ago and very few people use te same device for such a long time so obviously the devs themselves have to move on.
Even my device is 2 yrs n 4 mnths old, am plannin to buy a new one soon, similarly v all will move out. Who would develop, mod, contribute, test and for whom!

The Galaxy Ace wasn't that much of a flagship, yet it lasted so long. This device is lucky.

Well hv u seen those bad ROMs? The 'devs'' just simply add a new launcher/file explorer/a theme on the market and release their ROMs....that's the reason why ppl dislike them lol
Btw AOSP GB ROM must be the rom that has been discontinued mostly....fortunately now Spacecaker is back

I soo agree with your statement. I wanted to release so many jelly bean and cm9 roms for ace which would be built exclusively for testers but some noobs thought it was the same work as earlier roms.So I just wanna conclude by saying all cm9 or JB roms would look exactly the same. No matter what the developer contributes in the rom, except theming. So please cooperate with the developers. Its for your own good
