OTG help! - HTC One X+

Just recently got my one x plus and was told i would be able to connect an external usb keyboard to it and usb pen drives. I'm wondering how i can do this as i'm hearing stuff about kernals and roms and complicated stuff like that
I really would like to connect a keyboard, someone help please
thanks

You can actually do this right out of the box. You'll just need and adapter.

Are you 100% sure? and which kind of cable will i need exaclty?
thanks for the response

search for USB OTG in google or Newegg. I just ordered one last night for 3 bucks... I couldnt find it locally

A "standard" USB OTG cable - micro USB plug <-> USB A socket
Just search e.g. at Amazon or other dealers
But it MUST be a "real" OTG cable not just an adapter (pin1 grounded)
And also yes works on HOX+ out-of-the box

Ok cool, well i found this one on Amazon uk:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-B-Cab...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354424917&sr=1-3
any good?
thanks alot

Yup that will work.

The thing is i dont know the difference between an adapter and the real cable that maxwen is talking about?
is this one the same thing? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-USB-H...4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354424964&sr=1-4

How to plug flash drive into photon

I dont think it's possible. A computer reads the phone when it's plugged in but the phone doesnt read the computer so I dont see it reading a flash drive either.
Ive seen that you supposedly can, and would like to give it a shot. Here is an app that supposedly will, im just struggling with the physical aspect of plugging one into my photon..
I found one at Radio Shack.

Thats a mini USB, not a micro. And all that i find that are indeed micro USB upon reading reviews appear to not be USB Host OTG cables. Can anyone confirm or deny if this will work for what im trying to do..? I *think* it will but want to confirm before ordering. thanks!

Gonna need to splice in a 5v power source as the Photon doesn't supply power.

Is this the case for external hdd powered by USB only? Or just normal USB flash drives also?
Most OTG capable devices (again I don't think the Photon is one) only supply about 100mA. This is barely enough to power flashdrives. Only low power flashdrives work, beyond that most usb devices that are powered by usb only will not even turn on.
In short if your usb device powers up and works using only an OTG cable, consider yourself lucky.

MicroUSB Hub?

Does anyone know a place to buy a MicroUSB hub? I would like to connect the hub to the phone and then connect at least 3 other microUSB devices. There are plenty of these for standard USB but nothing for micro. The usage case is connecting my phone to the TV via HDMI, still being able to charge the phone and connect my Xbox adapter to use my controller. I know the HDMI adapters have one microUSB port for charging but not two. Any suggestions?
I don't think they exist and even if it did how could it possibly work?

if you buy the adapter here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322406) you can plug a normal usb hub into and use it that way.

as far as xbox controllers and hdmi adapters you got me there.. havent tried any of that
Your best bet is to grab the microusb otg cable, I beloved its linked above it was like 3.50$. From there you would want a self powered hub. I use to play around with it and hook up ex. a USB stick, keyboard, mouse. I've heard of ppl hooking up even biggger mass storage devices. But unfortunately the one thing you can't do is be able to use the hub/cable simultaneously with the MHL adapter for HDMI. I eventually gave in and just bought a ps3 controller because you can use the HDMI to TV simultaneously paired with a controller or another Bluetooth device. For what its worth I still am pretty amazed at using that hacked apk of Onlive with the sixaxis app as native gamepad all via HDMI looks great.

USB hub attaches to microusb or USB devices
This device has two short cables. One leads to a micro usb male, the other to a standard USB male.
The sockets on the hub are standard USB female.

Any USB 3.0 OTG cable on the market?

Hi,
Do you know does any USB 3.0 OTG cable for Note 3 on the market?
Can have faster speed than USB 2.0?
juku- Found this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...TF8&colid=2S39TJNXK1J0Y&coliid=I24AOP5P6N790M
Unfortunatley that is simply a 9FT USB 3.0 to microUSB 3.0 cable. I don't know of any OTG 3.0 cables.
I'm interested in this too but I think it's going to be a while before we get one. It's the first phone that has 3.0.

By OTG (On the go) you mean like a retractable, or very small cable? like portable?

No, you are not getting it.
On The go (OTG) is connected a bit differently than a usb cable.
It's basicly telling your Phone that The usb drive is going to connect to The Phone and not The Phone to a computer. It's all about slaves and masters. Phone and usb are slaves, so they cannot comunicate. With OTG it makes The Phone a master. So then they can comunicate.

Those seems NOT OTG cables.
Don't know if USB 3.0 OTG will speed up or just same as USB 2.0.
U can use original micro USB otg cable as well if that helps while waiting on new ones coming to market

Connecting a keyboard mouse etc. or any other USB device.
Personally, I use it with my Nexus 7 for watching moving on long flights. I keep the movies on USB sticks to avoid filling the Nexus and just plug in the stick when I want to watch the movie.
How is an USB 3.0 OTG connected?
To my knowledge OTG-cable reqire connectors with a 5 th pin which is used for sensing, and connected to ground. Therefore OTG won't be available to USB 2.0 Type A and B connecter because those lack the 5 th pin.
What I could not find so far does a USB 3.0 OTG just rely on the 5th pin of it's USB 2.0 part or does it some other way?
If you read english etnews com electronics/2850538_1303 (sorry cannot give dierct link) you'll find that Samsung intends to block second source manufacterer from providing accessories similar to printer manufacterers with cartridges. Did anyone read how they intend to do this e.g. NFC?
is there any difference in speed between usb2 and usb3 otg cable?

Odd accessory question

Does anyone out there know of a USB 3.0 micro-B to to micro-B cable available? I'm considering getting a pocket hard drive, and would rather use a single cable instead of a USB OTG adapter to standard USB cable if I can help it.
I did some searching on Google and Amazon but had no real success...
Thanks in advance, and my best,

USB C to A OTG causing a weird bug on my Tab S6

I'm trying to connect my Tab S6 (SM-T867V) to my Logitech mouse, but as soon as I connect the OTG cable to the Tab, even before the mouse controller is insterted, I get a notification that says USB connector connected and then it switches to USB connector disconected and just keeps flipping between the two notifications every few seconds seemingly endlessly. I tried the otg cable with my Note 9 (SM-N960U) and it works perfectly fine with my mouse. The Tab and Note prompt me with charging/file transfer when the otg cable is hooked into the Note and connected to the Tab via a usb c cable so that seemed to work fine. The tab also works normally when charging and using a usb c to hdmi adapter, so I don't think it's a port issue. Both devices are on One UI 2.1 and both have USB 3.1 type C 1.0 reversible connectors, so I'm really confused as to why I'm getting this bug. If anyone has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it!

I didn't think about PD making a difference, but maybe you're right. My usb c to hdmi does support PD, but the power wasn't plugged in when I tried it and it still worked tho ?
But either way, I ended up purchasing a bluetooth mouse instead just because it's more useful to have one for my tablet rather than unplugging my laptop's every time I take the tab somewhere. I will keep this in mind for if I need to add more accessories later, so thanks for the info.
